Sandra Perry, was an eighteen year old barrel racer. Hunter Lang was a saddle bronc nearing the end of his career. When they met at the Calgary Stampede Rodeo, the attraction was immediate. Later, in Hunter’s motel room, Hunter said, “are you ready to take this to the next step?” “I’m ready,” said Sandra as she reached for his belt buckle. She gave up her virginity to Hunter, an act that left her both exhilarated and conflicted. The night brought their relationship to a new level of intimacy. It also complicated their choices ahead. Sandra and Hunter knew they had to confront their feelings and reality. They would have to navigate the complexities of love, family, and personal ambition.
I have come across the term Barrel Racing in previous books, but it was only ever briefly mentioned, but the lead female in this book did barrel racing competitions. As a lady from the UK I actually had no idea what this was so googled it - and I can confirm that no, it does not mean running on barrels like my husband thought it was 🤣 And yes, I did laugh a lot at his suggestion.
This book had a lot of potential to be a good read, but I felt that there was too much jam packed into such a short read that nothing went into much detail and although a lot happened, it was quite repetitive and I felt we never really got to know the characters properly. There was several years worth of the characters story packed into 150 pages and I felt more should have been on getting to know them properly, rather than learning about life on the ranch, which had already been spoken about previously. The first book I read of this authors I really really liked it, but unfortunately this one fell a little bit flat for me.
A book that holds your attention from the beginning. Well written story with multiple strong characters. A strong moral code and values installed by both sets of parents. A love that started with a look between rodeo contestants in Broncos riding and barrel racing. A couple who supported each others dreams and goals.
Wow is the only word that works for this story. This is a great story that I fell in love with the characters. The are drawn into the characters' lives when you read this book, and you become invested in their romance. I loved this book.
This was Hunter and Sandra’s story. Sandra Perry, is an eighteen year old barrel racer. And Hunter Lang is a saddle bronc nearing the end of his career. Their attraction is immediate when they meet at the Calgary Stampede Rodeo. It was a fun, entertaining read. And voluntarily leaving this review.
