After surviving countless assaults from the ruthless Children of Z, Vicki, Theo, and their young charges have carved out a fragile but stable existence. All they yearn for now is a safe haven where they can provide a semblance of normalcy for the children they’ve come to love as their own. But in a world still fraught with danger, tranquility seems like a distant dream.
As Vicki and Theo strive to create a secure and nurturing environment for the girls, they must navigate new threats. Zombie hordes continue to plague their path, and the dangers of unwelcome visitors loom large. Every day brings new challenges as they teach the children vital survival skills, including the crucial lesson of avoiding strangers.
Amidst the turmoil, Vicki finds her heart slowly opening to Theo. As their shared experiences deepen, she begins to confront her own fears and uncertainties about love and relationships. Learning to trust Theo not only as a partner in survival but as someone she can rely on emotionally, Vicki starts to embrace a love she had long thought impossible.
Despite their struggles, Vicki's makeshift family grows, finding solace and strength in unity. But the shadow of the Children of Z still hovers ominously, reminding them that true safety remains elusive.
In Babysitter of the Apocalypse, Book 2: We Don’t Talk to Strangers, Vicki and her family face the trials of building a new life amidst relentless chaos. With heart-pounding action and deep emotional stakes, this installment explores the enduring power of hope, love, and the unbreakable bonds that keep them fighting for a future they desperately crave.
As a child, Courtney always had aspirations of being a writer. She participated in journalism in school. At home, she wrote short stories, poetry and filled diary pages. Somewhere along the line becoming an adult took priority over her writing and she went to work in business operations.
Now as a mother to three beautiful children, she tells them all the time to follow their dreams, be whatever they want. Those lessons reminded her how much she loved writing. She finally opened the door to making writing a real priority in her life.
Living outside of Portland, Oregon she loves the green and beauty Oregon offers. When she’s not matching wits with her children, her crazy Siberian Husky or her bi-polar cats, she enjoys binge reading, hikes and touring wineries. Courtney and her husband, the love of her life, enjoy traveling the world whenever they can get a free moment. And cruises….she loves cruising. She’s especially fond of life, laughter and sarcasm – and she’s excited to share all of that and more with her readers!
I'm going to jump into this one tonight, I know authors hate it when we ask them to write faster, but if you see this author out of her writing cave, please for the love of god shove her back in lol I've only just discovered her this year and I have literally binged all her words.
Bugger me, I was meant to start this in bed tonight, but I couldn’t wait, adulting was ignored for the day and I literally just read this in one sitting. And to know that this series isn’t finished is the best feeling in the world. Happy dance..
I love these characters and the little children that fast became theirs.
The cult that’s hunting them has me anticipating that next book like my life depends on it.
I love this world & these characters. I’m tired of seeing them getting hurt tho, i know it’s gonna happen but what the hell was that ending. That’s not how things were supposed to go. Regardless of that i loved every second of being back in this world.
In this book you see Vicki come to terms with a lot & to truly trust the people around her, & accept the life that she is currently living while fighting her internal battles. Everything about her character felt so real. I loved seeing Vicki & Theo’s relationship with Gabby & Tina grown over this book. Theo & Vicki were so wholesome, the fact that Theo is always on her side & always showing her that she’s not going anywhere is my favorite thing.
The side characters always get me. Nova & Grace were a good edition to this series. I love them with my whole heart & they deserve nothing but happiness. I hope the next book explores more of Ella & Cate, they’ve just kinda been there in the background since they came in. I loved every second of seeing Bet in these pages.
As much as i loved this book the first 80% truly was so fun & i loved it. But for the last 20% i just felt ready to get to what was coming since the beginning of the book. I felt the pacing was a bit off towards the end.
I am utterly disappointed that this series did not have an ending. ...to be continued in book 3. I get tired of series that have too many books to complete the story. I usually forget to read the next book(s). You forget the story when there is too much time in between new books. With that being said,I really did like the books. Nice story, fast moving.
I love this series. I can't wait for more. What I do not want to read is anything from "The Mistress's Mind" or other evil people like her or who work for her. I absolutely hate that Bet has died. I hope the entire group of "The Children of Z" is wiped out in the next book while rescuing the lead character.

I've been eagerly waiting for this book to drop since I read the first one a while ago. I like so many things about this series, the very slow burning romance, the zombies/post-apocalyptic setting, the adoption/caretaker trope (which is one of my favorites), the slow pace that has me both eating the post-apocalyptic lifestyle up and dying to know what happens to all of them.
I love how each part of this book subtly contributed to the growing feelings between not only the MCs, but also between them and the little girls who have helped them become a family. I was kicking my feet in happiness with each development that made them feel more and more like a solid family group. And the side characters becoming a village of dependable people they also cared for was a nice addition to their dynamic.
SLIGHT SPOILERS
I added the OW tag, but rest assured that there is NOT romantic OW drama in this book. The MMC is only interested in the FMC. But it was the only way I could describe the way a new character shakes things up and seems to have it out for the FMC because she wants the kids to become her own instead. Think of it as Other...Mother drama then? The most frustrating parts of that storyline end at about 20% though, and then everyone realizes they should have been listening to the FMC from the beginning instead of ignoring her very real feelings and warnings in favor of someone they had just met. I'm still annoyed that she just forgave them all immediately, but there was so much else that happened to develop their relationship after it all that it didn't really matter in the big picture. The author did a good job of showing that the characters had learned from the experience later on though, when their first reaction to new people was to look to the FMC to see if she got bad vibes.
This one ends on a cliffhanger, and I really need to know what happens next. All of the characters are stuck between a rock and a hard place and it seems like things are going to be very high stakes in the next book, whenever it comes out.
Overall, this is a slower-paced zombie apocalypse series than most, but I actually like that. The setting and circumstances were very different from the first book, this time giving us some modern homesteading, and I enjoyed it.
The story was okay and slow, kind of what I was looking for.
BUT, out of nowhere comes this POV of the dumbest evil-dominatrix-cult-leader-villain ever. Like seriously, what is her deal? We’ve had countless mentions of "the mistress," that woman who branded our MMC and has been chasing him for the most nonsensical reasons—in the freaking apocalypse, no less. Who has time for petty vendettas when the world is crumbling?
Also, RIP Bet, you deserved better.
And oh, that random character who somehow survived the bite—could she be the cure?
So many kids in this story, though. I’m catching all the protective icks, like, please don’t hurt them. My nerves cannot take it.
Also, the FMC... bless her. The author went over there pulling a full-on “she'll hurt herself everywhere” move, and it was kind of chaotic. But, to be fair, the FMC did say she almost died before and had almost no survival skills (shoutout to her drunk era, I'm glad she has (had?) a supportive sistem). People might be confused by her choices, but she’s just stumbling along, doing her best. Her character development was also a plus.
HOWEVER WHAT WAS THAT ENDING? A CLIFFHANGER? THAT ONE? Are you kidding me? What do you mean I have to wait for answers?!
I mean, with the author’s afterwords, she could perfectly end the story there...

This rating is solely for the book. I was hoping that it would pick up where it left off, but it didn’t. There was the introduction of the new characters that I couldn’t connect with because the meeting was just a flashback. She talked about the death of character and the meeting of ones so vague. Once we get into the meat of the book the characters act like nuttos. Taking in strangers and disregarding the feelings of someone who has supposably been through thick and thin with them. I also disliked how new characters were introduced but killed off immediately but the one person that you hope dies lives but doesn’t. There are holes in this story that just don’t make sense.
This is the second book in the series and it's a wonderful tale of family. The characters may not be united by blood but their bonds are just as strong or stronger. Friendships are formed and its lovely to see how the dynamics of these people all come together to face building a life amongst all the awful things going on around them. Not only the changing zombies but crazy people who want to do them harm. There is some heartbreak in this one. The book ends without resolution, so now I wait for book 3 of the series to see how everything plays out for Vicki, Theo, the girls and their new friends. Actually looking forward to reading it when it's available. Courtney Konstantin certainly has a knack for keeping you entertained and longing for more.
Vick, Theo, Bet and the girls, Tina and Gabby are trying to get to their destination of choice but run afoul again of a cruel cult called The Children of Z. Constantly trying to find a safe place to rest and recoup and keeping an eye out for the C of Z, Vick is injured and e3xhausted. Taking care of two small girls during a zombie apocalypse is no joke. They meet a couple of young women out on their own and they welcome them to join their little group. Then the hoard comes........ Courtney Konstantin is one of my favorite Authors. If you haven't read any of her books yet, you have to give them a try. The Sundown Series is a great place to start as well as this series.
The characters are fairly well developed and the plot drives the action. Theo appears to have great knowledge but some of it is way off base. You can’t grow summer vegetables in a greenhouse in the winter in Oregon. Blackberries don’t grow in the spring. Chickens don’t lay as many eggs as they were eating. A lot of things in this book didn’t work. There weee editing snaffoos that interfered with the flow. Because the characters were good and the plot was good, the story worked and I’ll keep reading. The characters were so quite well developed so the reader cares for the characters.
My only real disappointment was the cliff hanger ending, which of course means there will be a babysitter 3. I hoped this book would resolve the conflict, at least for now. There are way too many typos and grammatical errors, but the characters are strong enough to carry the book. Theo, Vicki and Bet, along with irrepressible Gabby, have a strong chemistry. Grace and Nova were good additions, though adding two new small children seemed unnecessary - this may be explained in the next book. The zombie are still too easy to kill, except when there are thousands of them. The ability of the evil mistress and her pets to track Theo still seems implausible in a low tech, devastated world.
I'm loving this series as much as I loved the Sundown series. I've read a lot of zombie books/series and a series focused on someone responsible for two small humans is not something that you normally read about it. It is great to see how Vicky is growing as a person and seeing her overcome her struggles with alcohol and loneliness.
I also loved the small cross reference to the Duncan's. I'd love to see more in the future. :)
Courtney excels in rich character development throughout this book and introduced some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. There were moments I was certain it was all going to fall over for the gang and yet things went a different way with losses and gains that left me a little sad at the end of the book. I will be waiting on the edge of my seat to see who manages to make it through the next installment…. Another excellent story!
I just discovered these books and read both books of The Babysitter and the prequel in 4 days! Love the characters and storyline! I understand having problems relating to others but then find family and lose them. Vicki has such a big heart but few understand her because of her lack of social skills. Maybe a high functioning Autism? Ready for book 3! Also going hunting for other books by Konstantin!
So much happened in this book and I was not ready to let go. I loved the little easter egg from sundown, but I am sad that Hannah and Gabe died at the hands of those psychopaths. I laughed, cried and yelled at characters that were being idiots (if only for a short while). I am heartbroken over Bet's loss. I hope that when Theo get's Vicki back the whole community of The Children of Z are demolished. I binged most of this in one sitting and was not ready for it to end.

I absolutely love We Don't Talk To Strangers. It's a great storyline and I especially like the interactions between Vicki and the little girls, Gabby and Tina. I think the kids add a lot to a zombie apocalypse story. Ms Konstantin writes an exciting and thrilling tale and I am definitely along for the ride. Looking forward to the next book.
No matter how life is under the apocalypse, family is everything. Reading this is like how life could be when zombies are chasing you everywhere. Vickie, Theo and the girls they are charged with keeping safe have become a family. They face each challenge together and hopefully they win over the odds. Excellent book.
We continue with Vicky and Theo’s and the girls story. Lot of trials and an error is on the way. I have read all of her other books, but this series to me is the best so far. I think a lot of people relate to Vicky, a loner who helped a neighbor out with her kiddos. And and, when SHTF she stepped up she came out of her comfort zone. And she nailed it. But you left me at a cliffhanger! I know the mistress needs to be taken care of. AndVicky, Theo and the kids need to find a Safe Haven.
This was a great second book the drama and danger stayed and keeps you engaged! Strong characters that you root for to make it and survive. Can’t wait for the next book to come out!
I am so looking forward to the next book..this series has me hooked like all of Courtney Constatin's books. Now I will patiently watch for the next one( did that sound convincing?)
I thoroughly enjoyed Book 2. I was so engrossed the entire time. Watching Vicki little by little let down her guard and open her heart to let in love was so heartwarming. I really hope we don't have to wait long for Book 3 bc I am so ready to see what happens next.
This series keeps getting better with each book. Can’t wait for the next book. Sad to see that someone was killed off. I know it’s the Apocalypse but you don’t have to kill major characters. Get the books and leave your reviews.
I love her stories this one was just as good as the first. I like that the characters are not always just killed off like skittles like some stories do and it doesn't drag. I need some justice for bet because well no fair.. i hope it continues in a third.
I hate you cliffhanger also this book had way less living on cool found places than the first one like the normalcy and homesteading was cute but its the apocalypse go live in a museum or Costco or smth. still fun and I do want to read the third one
Wow!! So good!! I could not put this down!! It really pulls at your emotions!! I can’t wait for the next book!! I love the connection to the other series too!!
