I haven't read a lot of war poetry, but what I have read has been extraordinary -- Whitman (US Civil War), Owens (WWI), Turner (US Iraq War). This book by Steve Mason is no exception. His stories are incredibly moving; his anger is palpable; his vision is utterly humane.
