With each passing moment, the nightmares worsen.
Tortured images of a past I cannot remember haunt me.
I know I'm in danger... I just don't know why.

Then he comes to my town.

I can feel him watching me, studying me, always from the shadows—like a hunter stalking its prey.
The closer he circles, the more aware of him I become.
His nearness is toxic, and yet...

There's something about the darkness within him that calls to me, that speaks to the scars of my troubled past.
Only a truly violent man could understand my demons.
He will either be my salvation or lead me to my destruction.

This was a lot to take, and for some reason I feel like this story is a combination of cat and mouse duet x mindfxck series.

Gaaawd, the contents I just can't, and imo, this warning: "Overall bad things happening to good people, who then do bad things to bad people." didn't do justice and wasn't enough.

As a reader, I like to know firsthand the list of triggers involved in a story, especially if it's a dark romance. Some prefer to go in blindly, and that's totally okay, but some, like me, needed that exact list, and unfortunately I never got any of that. And maaan, I can never unsee the things I read here. 😭

Harley (25), her mother, and late sister were kidnapped 11 years ago and were put through things that no person should experience in their life.

At present time, Zack (??) came into her small town to unalive a disgusting POS who's involved with the flesh trade. He stopped in a coffee shop and bumped into Harley, and cue insta-something. I didn't get the connection, but I guess when you know, you know. Anyway, within a span of a few days, they got close, and Harley told him what happened to her, and Zack vowed to help her find all the people involved in that kidnapping.

They crossed off everyone who had a hand with Harley and her sister's torture, and it was satisfying to read how these vile and nasty people finally got their end.

I was honestly more intrigued with the comeuppance of the disgusting human beings than the romance here. This was very much insta-love with so many spicy scenes. They talked, but not in that kind of deep and important conversation; mostly, if they're not planning their revenge, they're screwing each other's brains out. That's why I lost interest in them as a couple.

Anyway, in the end, everyone paid and got what they deserved. And like said, I like the revenge aspect, not so much with the romance as I don't feel any chemistry between them. 🤷‍♀️

Book info:
- Kidnapping
- CSA (past, ftb)
- Violence, gore, death, torture
- BDSM (flogging, choking, whipping)
- Flesh trade
- Death of a loved one (past)
- Grief
- Insta-love
- No cheating, OM/OW, separation
- Revenge unaliving
- No V
- HFN (4 mos later, in a relationship)

Notes:
- No V. Harley and her sister were SAed during their captivity (they were only 14). But she still had other experience in college. As for Zach, he said being in the Marines didn't allow him a chance for meaningful relationships. So whenever he has free time, he frequents BDSM clubs instead to find someone who's up for what he wants.
- Flogging. When Zach and Harley got into a club where the leader of the bad guys is a patron, they planned to sell an act. He tied her on stage, ripped her clothes (to display her back and buttocks), and flogged her until her skin broke. The more sadistic and bloodier the act, the better.
- She can never have kids because of the damage that was done to her (11 years ago)

Marked by Measha Stone is a dark, unconventional, and ultra-steamy romance that follows the story of Harley, a young woman who survives a brutal attack and loses her twin sister. Her strength and determination after all she has endured are admirable. Zack, a mysterious vigilante, arrives in town for a job and meets Harley. There's an immediate attraction between them, and he is determined to protect and claim her as his.

The storyline was interesting, but it could have been more believable. After Harley is kidnapped and brutalized, she quickly opens up to Zack. Despite only meeting him once, their relationship becomes physical, and he becomes a big part of her healing journey. It's hard to believe that Harley would trust Zack so soon. Although I liked both characters, this made the romance feel less genuine to me. However, the mystery of Harley's abduction is what really kept me engaged in the story. I was eager to find out who was behind it and rooted for Harley and Zack as they sought justice for all she endured.

I would have traded all of the licking for just two pages of actual relationship growth. It wasn't good, it wasn't bad, but it was a fun ride, and I really liked the ending.

Measha Stone’s books are always exciting to receive and read. Her stories are filled with strong female heroines who go through horrendous experiences and still shine their light brightly and strongly. Harley has been through so much in her young life and she still carries on being strong and resilient.
Zack is attracted to her light, but he also senses some darkness and he becomes drawn to her.
Zack is the definition of a strong man, self assured and dominant in every way that counts but soft and gentle when need too.
This story had me shocked at what Harley and her sister Quinn endured but it also had me cheering for her when she exacted her retribution.
Loved this couple and their story ❤️

What a fantastic book by Ms.Stone. It's a real show-stopper. This story is a dark, brutal romance with a vivid plot. The storyline was solid and action-packed. The intensity took my breath away, and the sexual chemistry between Zach and Harley was off the charts. This story kept me riveted, and I had to finish it. I had to know what had happened and why. The line between good and evil was sometimes blurred, and there was a lot of bloodshed. I felt like I had fallen down a rabbit hole with all the twists and turns, but eventually, all the puzzle pieces came together for an emotional and fitting conclusion. What surprised me was how quickly Harley trusted Zach and took him at face value.

Zach and Harley’s journey was intriguing. Zach was a vigilante hellbent on enacting his brand of justice. He gave Harley everything she didn't know she wanted or needed. He was her guardian angel. Her protector in the background there if she needed him.

Meeting Zack was Harley's turning point. The trauma that haunted her dreams was a constant reminder of losing her sister. After going through hell and back, Harley went from a fragile character on the verge of shattering to an avenging angel set on revenge. She was not a little bird anymore but a monster slayer.

This was a suspenseful, edgy, well-written story. The author is adept at both plot and character development and can maintain her reader's interest throughout the book. I would love to see a sequel, as I need to know more about these characters.

This is one of those books where it’s difficult to write a review for fear of giving away too much, you’ll just have to take my word for it and read Marked for yourself, trust me you won’t be disappointed. Dark, twisted, and brutal. I could not put Marked down. It wasn’t an easy read, and the trigger warnings are there for a reason, but Zack and Harley’s story had me absorbed from the start and it will stay with me for a while.

3.5 🌟

I wanted a dark and quick read, and that's exactly what I got. There was nothing overly amazing about this book, but nothing that I necessarily disliked. It was safe as far as OP drama, but definitely check the triggers for a lot of on page triggers that could be hard for some people to read!

This book took me on a ride but I enjoyed every second of it! Zack and Harley have an instant connection. Zack can tell Harley has been through something terrible and he helps her every step of the way which includes hunting down the guys who hurt her. I definitely recommend but please check trigger warnings before reading!

Very dark - think hunting Adeline but mixed with mindf*ck and a hint of blackbird and butcher without the comedy. 5/5 plot - the writing was really easy to read. The spice was average dark romance spice but the plot made up for it. Will def check out more work by this author.

I think I have discovered that this author's writing is just not for me. I think this is the second book of her's I've read and neither of them were very good. Her books are marketed as "pitch black", there are some pretty harsh themes but idk maybe it doesn't seem pitch black because the writing is so bad. It took me awhile to finish the book because I kept getting bored and putting it down. It should not have taken me as long as it did for a book with 290 pages. The MMC became obsessed with the FMC the first time he saw her on like page 2 of the book. A few pages later and she's already swearing to never lie to him and he's making promises to never hurt her. So the insta-lust/love was strong in this one. Extremely cringy. By like 15% of the book they've only seen each other a couple of times and talked MAYBE twice, she's asking him how does she know he won't kill her. Then they're making out and she's already "getting lost in him." Mind you, this girl was kidnapped, raped and tortured, and watched her sister get raped, tortured and murdered, but she trusts this guy she barley knows implicitly. After their first little tryst, seems like he was living with her for the rest of the book. How great was it that she also was a little psycho. Ok I'm going to quit now. This book annoyed me to no end. I could keep going, but then I'd annoy you. Just don't waste your time on this.

Be advised of trigger warnings for kidnapping, rape, physical abuse and murder.

Do not let the description of this book scare you away. I read the ARC of this story and it was out of this world phenomenal. There is violence and past trauma in this story from beginning to end but it’s an incredibly emotional gripping story that won’t let you put it down. There’s mystery and suspense and a whole lot of hotness between the lead characters. I’m quite sure there will be a couple books to follow in this series and I can’t wait for them. I’ve read every one of Measha’s books to date and this is by far the best yet. Let your mind enjoy the ride she takes you on. It’s worth it….

The tragic story the FMC has as a back story isn’t even that bad, trigger warnings aside I was really intrigued by it all. I liked how Zach sees her, wants her and gets her…it just seems a little too rush and it feels like he isn’t genuine. I don’t know, the story fell short for me and couldn’t keep my attention. I DNF’d 70% in but still 3 stars for a good back story and a good FMC.

Um...what?!

I read this book because it was for my book club. And I'm so glad it came across me. I would have never found this book otherwise. I seriously love everything about this book. I read a semi similar book to this and I didn't like it at all really. But this book is a must!!! It's so juicy and dramatic in all the right spots!!

It’s a horror / thriller I’d say.

How someone can sell their kids is beyond me 😭 or at least let people do that to your kids!
Doesn’t deserve them, poor Quinn😭

This book had me on the edge of my seat, a really easy read I didn’t want to put it down!!
Finished it within 1 day 👏🏻

I’m glad Harley got her revenge on every single person who hurt her…

Copy received from The Next Step PR. Voluntarily reviewing and all opinions are objective and my own.

3.5 stars rounded up.

This was a decent read. I enjoyed the thriller aspect of the plot - the who did it. It was quite the deep plot with lots of twists and turns that kept me intrigued. But the romance had little development. One minute, he’s the stranger who continues popping up, and the next she’s inviting him into her house, telling him everything, and then going along with his plans. I didn’t feel the development as much as I wished I could. It was entertaining enough though. One of those books I was entertained by but I’ll probably forget I even read by the end of the month.

I really enjoyed this book even though I was a little skeptical at first because of the trigger warnings, but I was able to go through reading it and the triggers weren’t as bad as I thought they would be for me. Overall the Author did a great job of writing this story everything fell into place and the plot made sense. The characters were very unique. I especially like how Harley grew into her character after having to suffer the loss of a loved one and Zack, well he just created a monster out of his little bird. It was a great relationship that these two individuals have. It was a page turner and a quick and easy read. I would recommend this book to fans of the Author and to those that like serial killer romances who don’t have trigger issues and don’t mind a little bit of heat in the bedroom. I was given an ARC by the Author but I am voluntarily leaving my own opinion in this review. I can’t wait for the next story in the series hoping it will be soon.

DNF 25% I get this book is shorter but everything happened too fast. Were told pretty quickly about what happened to Harley & her second time talking to Zach she takes him home and hooks up with him? 😭 idk this dialogue felt like fan fiction. She says she’s broken and has trauma but homegirl was pretty eager for him imo. Also nothing about this felt dark but maybe bc the last serial killer, dark romance I read was AJ Merlin and the mmc was ready to slaughter a camp full of kids 🌚

Also (tw) , just to be clear they did the whole “wakes up screaming from nightmare, he’s in bed, she says sorry she’s broken and he will never hurt her and discovers her SH scars”. She has no self preservation skills bc she immediately gets nakey after letting a stranger, who’s admitted to stalking her, stay the night?!?! Ya, ok..

This is a 3.75 for me. I will say it was the 2nd half that I enjoyed most about the book. For me however the book as a whole felt a little rush but more so in the 1st half especially with the FMC in relation to the MMC. Like in their first real meeting she has him drive her to her home, lets him in her house and only slightly accuses him of maybe being a reporter but then bypasses it and they are off to the races basically in their relationship. There was no buildup and almost immediate trust on her part and for even a normal situation that is odd but in the case of her situation and everything that has happen to her she is just way too trusting. On that same note of her not even questioning about this strange man coming into her life when she finds out what he does there is no hesitation on her part and same when she decides to participate in his activities as well. Like I totally get horrible shit happened to her and it desensitized her and changed her viewpoint on things being black/white or the grey area but to me it just her very one note. It was actually Zack the vigilante unaliver was the one always checking in and making sure she was okay with what was going on and her joining in on things and a little concerned about the ramifications thinking things would hit her harder. But that was his MO the moment he met her and fell for her was that he was all about taking care of her as well as raising her up by giving her the tools to take control back when she wanted it.

Now I did like both characters and their romance were believable for me towards the end but just the rushed start that annoyed me a little as well as Harley just feeling a little one note or coasting on the storyline. Now for the plot I will say it was interesting with the twists and turns that happened while they were uncovering Harley's past and what had happened to her. In the end there were somethings I enjoyed and others I would tweak.

This book is about Harley who went through something unimaginable growing up that resulted in her mother, her and twin sister Quinn being kidnapped and having unspeakable things happening to Harley and her sister where in the end her mother had to make the unimaginable choice and only Harley walked out. It is years later and her memories of her of the event are spotty at best which means the men responsible have never been caught and she has been left to pick up the pieces of her and her mother's life while being haunted by the nightmares. With the anniversary so close things are rough right now for everyone and now she starts to feel like someone is watching her from the shadows making her feel like his prey. But the closer he gets to staking his claim on her the more his darkness calls to her and her own darkness resulting from the scars of her past. Leading her to believe that this man could either be her salvation because only a monster could understand her own demons or he may be the one to finally be her destruction.

Outstanding dark book…
Measha Stone has written a very dark, very intense, very sexy book in Marked.
Harley Turner is a traumatized young teacher who is barely hanging on at the approach of the 11th anniversary of her traumatic event.
She accidentally bumps shoulders with Zack Barns at a coffee shop and his interest is peaked in her direction.
This story unfolds with a few flashbacks to the trauma she suffered along with her twin sister
Quinn (got to love the homage to Harley Quinn here ).
This story quickly descends into suspense, and some dark aspects.
Zack Barns is a retired Marine Raider who works with a network of soldiers to prevent and exact revenge on criminals and flesh peddlers.
The current case he is working on overlaps with the past events of Harley and her sister.

The intensity of feelings that spark when Zack and Harley meet is just one aspect of this book

The plot is interwoven brilliantly and it is suspenseful and riveting.
There are very dark themes in this book including, blood play and extreme cruelty at a torture club. Humanity at its worst.
However, the red hot love story between Zack and Harley is just as powerful and the trust and love on the side of our two lovers, helps balance the depravity that we encounter in other parts of the book.
Definitely not for some people if you are triggered by some of the dark themes,
I’m an avid fan of Measha Stone’s work. This is a wild ride of emotions and I throughly enjoyed this book.
Looking forward to some possible follow up books with some new characters we meet. Charlie, Cox, Jackie and Jax.

After reading the blurb I knew this was a must read for me.
What an absolutely gut wrenching and bittersweet experience the author put me through.
Ms. Stone shattered my heart and soul. She had me ugly crying.
But as the story develops she brings some warmth back into my body.
Harley bless her heart was the definition of a survivor. She got put through an absolutely horrific and abhorrent experience. She went through hell. But unfortunately she stayed there.
Yes she gets up every morning and goes to work, eats and drinks. She goes through the motions.
But isn’t really living.
Until she sets eyes on a mysterious man.
Zack is in town to take care of business. His vibe gives off a dark and powerful aura.
Someone not to be messed with. The moment he sees Harley something about her connects with him.
It’s not that he is intrigued by her. No something deeper about her calls him.
These two together were the dynamic duo. Each is strong as an individual.
But as a team they were a freaking force of nature. They complete and compliment one another perfectly. Harley calms his beast. And Zack calms her soul.
The storyline and plot is just so incredible and so intense. I was gripped from start to finish.
It’s raw and gritty. But told as tastefully as possible.
While still be authentic to the trauma of what took place.
The story is intricate, fast paced and intense.
Emotionally powerful and so many feelings will be coursing through you.

Zack didn’t think the beauty he spied was more than she appeared. Harley’s past was dark. She just wanted to move forward and not think about that day. But everyone around her keeps bringing it up. When these two meet, their lives intertwine and take a turn. Not only is Zack going to protect her but he is going to make sure no one hurts her again.

This story definitely has a twist. I wouldn’t say Zack is a serial killer. He is more the cleaner. He removes those that are the offending the world. And Harley needs some serious healing from him. These two are like Yin and Yang. They balance each other. He pulls her from her dark side and frees her. She brings in the light to his dark world. When the story started I wasn’t sure what to make of it but as I kept going it get intense and hot at the same time. Justice prevails for these two and others. I did think there was an error in the book but it was a side story that needed to be said. So many villains in the one that you are rooting for each time they are taken down. There is also shocking information as well. I don’t like to give too many things away. You really have to read it. But it isn’t for everyone. It gets intense. And the ending is the best.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book early! I really enjoyed Marked by Measha Stone. This was a dark serial killer romance that had heavy topics including: self harm, blood/knife play, k!lling, s3xual a$$ault. Please make sure to read the triggers before reading this book.

For a dark romance involving the heavy topics that it did, I found it easy to read. There was just something so addictive in this story, I can’t pinpoint what part it was.It was insta lovey (which I’m typically not a fan of) but it worked for this book, possibly because it was so fast paced (read in 3 hours). I liked how strong the heroine was and how epically badass she was. I loved how supportive and caring our hero was (he was kinda hot too). For me I would say yes there was intimate scenes, but that’s not what kept me going. I wouldn’t really say it was a mystery, maybe an adrenaline rush? It was action packed and I kinda liked that the author was just straight to the point in this book. She told you how it was haha. You always knew what was coming, there was really no “gotcha moments” and the one thing I thought I was right about, I was wrong. So that was nice too.

All in all it was a pretty good read and I would def recommend this to someone who wants a quick paced, dark, spicy romance. No third act break up, you just live in the insta love😊

CW: Rape, Non-consensual activities, Violence, Blood Play, Cutting.

"Marked" is a dark romance intertwined with a thrilling plot. The twists and turns caught me by surprise, keeping me on the edge of my seat the entire time!

If you're looking for a strong female character who is empowered by the Alpha male lead, resulting in a VERY explosive couple, this story will captivate you.

“She’s strong. But I doubt she can see it.”

I loved how Harley begins to grow in confidence when she meets Zack, as she is recognized for what she truly is: strong and capable.
Both Harley and Zack are broken heroes who find their missing pieces in each other. They embark on a mission to right the wrongs in the world, Dexter-style. It’s a tale of revenge, very much an eye for an eye.

“Fuck, the world. It’s a dark place, and a man like me thrives in the darkness.”

Please be aware that the story contains significant depictions of violence and sexual assault, so trigger warnings apply. The narrative progresses quickly, and while I would have appreciated a bit more background, I still grasped the characters' motivations.

I hope to see more of Zack's story revealed in the next book!

Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC. I have chosen to leave a review, and all thoughts expressed are my own.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review.

This is the story of Zack and Harley. Harley is a girl who is missing part of her memory. The part of all the trauma she has endured that will break your heart. I have to stay that this story isn't sunshine and roses. However, it is one that will steal your breath and have you on the edge of your seat. When Harley meets Zack she immediately feels safe with this man for reasons that she can't explain. I love that Zack was willing to do anything for her and help her in more ways than he even realizes. He is a guy who take care of some things that don't take care of themselves the way they should. Harley is a girl who has lost a lot and lived though an experience that your going to unfold as this book goes on. She has also suffered the loss of her sister and feels like everyone in town blames her. After all her sister was the bright shining light of the family in Harley's mind. They were twins after all so a half of her is missing in her life. When Zack comes into a coffee shop while out doing what he does best, he sees Harley reading a book but she never shies away when she is looking at him. His plan from the moment one, finish what he is doing and come back for her. What follows is their journey with twists and turns and moments that shocked me really. This is such a great book. You do not want to miss it.

WOW! That basically sums it up. This is a departure from prior books in that the subject matter and storyline is much deeper and darker. I had to take breaks while reading. Not because the book was slow or difficult to push through. Exactly the opposite. This book pulls you into the bottom of the deep dark abyss and doesn't let go. It's a story of like minds and love finding each other and knowing exactly what the other needs. It's a story of justice and retribution. The reader has to force themselves to come up for air and light.

Zac and Harley are exactly what the other needs. They save each other from drowning and bring light to each other. I rarely give any story a five and even rarer do I wish there could be a higher rating. This book deserves that. The subject matter is dark and difficult. The author did her research and that made the story even better. The two are drawn to each other and truly do complete each other. Yes, I know that's super corny but once you're finished, you'll understand. There's really no way to classify this book except that it's a must read & readers need to be prepared.

Trigger Warnings: This book includes several intense themes that may be triggering for some readers. Please be mindful before diving in.

This story took me on an emotional rollercoaster, and I loved every moment of it! The journey follows Harley, one of the most powerful heroines I’ve ever encountered. What she and her sister endured was utterly heartbreaking, but watching Harley rise from those ashes to become the strongest version of herself was nothing short of inspiring.

Zach is the embodiment of strength—confident and self-assured, yet tender and caring when it matters most. His patience and unwavering support as Harley confronts her trauma and reclaims her life are truly remarkable. The way he’s immediately drawn to her light when they meet in that coffee shop is magnetic, and his determination to make her his feels perfectly crafted. Their relationship is so beautifully written, it feels both raw and real.

Measha Stone’s writing is nothing short of phenomenal. She pulls you into this world with such skill that you can’t help but feel like you’re right there with Harley and Zach. This is a must-read for anyone looking for a powerful, heart-stirring story. Add it to your TBR immediately—trust me, you won’t want to miss out!

Ahhh!! I don’t even know where to begin with this story. This story was so good. The action, the darkness, the revenge. Everything was just top-tier. I went through all the emotions. One moment I was crying and then I was laughing and then I was ecstatic. This story will definitely stay with me.

Harley’s life has been turned upside down and will forever haunt her but her memories are still fuzzy. When a mysterious man stumbles into her life, she can’t stay away from the darkness he brings. Will he be able to save her or destroy her?

I absolutely loved Harley and Zack. Her character has been broken down but yet she tries to remain so strong. Zack to me, is exactly what Harley needed. His character wants revenge for all the innocent people who couldn’t get their lick back. Harley’s character over the pages opens up and truly blossoms into the woman she should be. Zach had my heart and each page had me falling. I truly just loved both of them so much.

This story was full of revenge, spice, and action. I enjoyed this book so much that I couldn’t put it down until I fell asleep reading it and then immediately picked it back up the next day. I highly recommend reading this book but check out the warnings beforehand.

Oh man. I admit I took this ARC not really knowing much except for its dark romance. LOL I like Measha’s stories so I was ready.
This book was EVERYTHING I could have wanted in a dark romance. I mean Zack was *Chef’s kiss* dark and delicious. He sees Harley while on a job but had to get to know her. Know her he does *snickers*.
Harley’s life is awful. She has a sister who was murdered, and the town pretty much hates her for the loss of her sister and not her. Wild town but that is the small-town dynamic right? Everyone knows your business and has a say in it.
Harley finally feels free but mostly SAFE in the arms of Zack. The two tumble down the story of her kidnapping and sister’s murder. It was WILD!!! I MEAN WILD!!!! I had no idea what was going to happen next, but each scene had me saying “WHUUUUUU!!!!!!” because Measha has the way of keeping you guessing while also busting your brain wide open with twists.
I am so excited for this series. I cannot wait for book 2 based on the little bit we already know. Any dark romance lover and any Measha lover will need this book to complete their obsession with her writing.

This was my first book by Measha Stone and OMG I was on an emotional Rollercoaster and I was not mad about it at all. This book follows Harley who is one of the strongest heroines and Zach who is tender and caring when it matters. Harley and her sister went through so much and watching her get through those dark things and be the best and strongest version of her self was so inspiring. Zach oh Zach not only is he tender and caring he is strong and confident. The way he is not only patient with Harley, he gives her so much support as she faces her trauma and takes back her life. The chemistry between these two you can feel as soon as they meet in the coffee shop and the determination to make her his was beautifully written. This book also action packed and you will also know whats coming which is nice because this book is very emotional. Measha Stone was able to make you feel so many emotions as you read their story and you don’t wanna miss it. I defiantly recommend this book if you are looking for a dark romance with heart twisting.

🥀Thank you to for the ARC🥀
