A single dad, a model, and a comedian walk into a bar… They’re all Owen Brodie.
It’s only funny if you aren’t the hilarious struggling comedian who has been hired to be his son’s nanny for the stand-up tour.

Dear Ms. Hogan,

I’m emailing to offer you the job as my son’s nanny because Sam had a temper tantrum when I told him I can’t hire you to come on my stand-up tour with us. “She heckled me at a club a few years ago,” I wanted to say. “She is the sassy little turd who trolls me on Twitter,” I could have told him. “She’s an even bigger pain in the butt when we’re face-to-face,” I thought to myself. What I would never tell him is—things could get complicated. For reasons.

Let me know if you want the job.

With great reluctance,
Owen

#AdorableHowObsessedYouAreWithMe

Dear Mr. Brodie,

Thank you for your email. Please inform Sam that I like him very much and would love to be his nanny and accompany him on your terrible joke of a stand-up tour.

I can assure you—things will not get complicated. For many, many reasons.

Primarily because Owen Brodie isn’t funny, and he can suck it.

Out of financial desperation and a fondness for your son,
Frankie

Amazon Top 25 and USA Today bestselling author Kayley Loring spent many years as a screenwriter (under a different name) in Los Angeles before moving to the Pacific Northwest to live out her childhood dream of being a Disney heroine who talks and sings to woodland creatures. When not trying to keep animals alive, she’s writing steamy romantic comedy novels, obviously. She’s breathing cleaner air, writing dirtier words, and staring at her computer screen until her eyeballs dry out instead of prancing around Southern California in miniskirts and going to the hair salon. Still waiting for the woodland creatures to clean her house, though.

Read or listen to Kayley’s books when you want humor, heat, and heart. You’ll enjoy top-notch banter, strong heroines, lovable characters you’d want to know in real life and you’ll swoon over perfectly imperfect book boyfriends. All Kayley Loring books are steamy open door romance. Be sure to check out her next-level audiobooks!

"You’re the setup and the story arc and the main character and the conflict and the punchline."
I just finished the book and everything is just going through my brain at rocket speed. I was hoping for a sweet, cute, sexy, hot read with a lot of banter. And that's what I got. And then those last few chapters wrecked me.
How the hell does Kayley Loring manage to do this to me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME?

The hero of this book is a stand-up comedian. I never liked them (with a few exceptions) but I would go to ANY Owen Brodie show. Why would I buy a book where the main character does something for a living I don't enjoy in real life? Because... in Kayley I trust.

"I want him more than I’ve ever wanted anyone or anything—more than I want to make people laugh, even. I didn’t think I’d ever want anything more than I want that. And I don’t know how to stop wanting him."
Owen Brody. The model, the hot guy, the comedian. One of the reasons why I don't like stand-up comedy is that I feel the comedians are a lot sadder than they seem. They give me this weird sadness vibe, and Owen did too. He's obviously hot, and full of himself. He obviously loves his kid more than anything in the world. And he may have a great career, but he's definitely missing something.

"There is no 'before.' There’s no women before Frankie, no Justins before me. No jobs or uncles or kids to worry about. No banter or jokes. There’s just my body and hers."
Frankie is just trying to make her way in the world. She dreams of making people laugh. She has really cool jokes. She has an attitude I love, and a level of sarcasm to die for. I want to be her. What she doesn't have is a break, one that can kickstart her career. So she jumps from job to job.

“Hi. You look so pretty I want to punch something.”
She laughs, and the lighting’s too dim for me to tell if she’s blushing but I bet she is. She’s still smiling when she says, “Thank you. You look so handsome I want to throw you off this roof.”

They sort of meet when Owen's doing a show in Tampa, and she heckles him. I loved it. But because he was on the stage, and because there were a lot of people there, he didn't actually see her. She didn't need to, because he's famous, so she kept heckling him on Twitter. And he kept replying. The banter and the chemistry between these two were... I need something that means "perfect", but is actually "perfect times infinity". Thesaurus is not being very helpful!

“So…does Sam have any allergies?”
“He’s allergic to sass and sarcasm, so I don’t think this is going to work out.”
“Yeah, well, my eyeballs are allergic to your face, so I agree this is a bad idea.”

When they finally meet, she's unemployed, and there to apply for a nanny job. Surprise, the banter between them is even better when they're face to face. I love them as enemies. I love how much they kind of really dislike each other, simply because, well, they're sort of very similar and sort of complete each other. I could see that, they obviously couldn't.

"I call dibs on the Target joke.”
“You can have it. I call dibs on you.”
“You can have me. Grab a cart because I have a lot to offer.”
“I’m getting two carts because I’m going to grab everything.”

Once they finally do something about their sexual tension, it's on. These two are fire. I think my Kindle may be experiencing some side effects from the scene in the limo.
At the same time, they're opening up. You can see how vulnerable Frankie really is behind all the sarcasm, and what an awesome guy Owen is behind all his hotshot-ness.

“She’s the only person who made you smile and laugh. You’re always trying to make other people laugh, but she was the only one who ever made you smile with your eyes and laugh with your whole face.”
In the middle of all of this is the Brodie family, his parents and his two brothers, and the texts between them. Sam, Owen's kid, was a lot more perceptive than grown-ups gave him credit for. And their jokes, Frankie's made-up songs, and the pop culture references to so many things I love just wrapped up this book in a perfect little package that was just bang on for me.

"I’ll never get over myself, and I will never, ever get over you."
The last few chapters. I'm not sure what to say about them. I went from laughing, to feeling happy, to crying these really weird tears – you know, those Man-I-wish-this-could-happen-in-real-life-and-maybe-to-me-please tears?
It was the perfect finish to a book that has so much laughter in it, but also so much heart.
I give this book ALL the winking emojis and emojis.

First of all, don’t ask me why, but I didn’t expect this book (series) to be so steamy. Probably because of the girly covers that almost scream clean romance to me. *lmaooo

“It’s mine. I call dibs on the Target joke.”
“You can have it. I call dibs on you.”
“You can have me. Grab a cart because I have a lot to offer.”
“I’m getting two carts because I’m going to grab everything.”

[...] fuck me running through Target with two carts I don’t even know where to start.
“What are you—what—what is this—why—why why why why are you so fucking hot, you monster?”

Frankie and Owen were great together. I loved their animosities and their shit talking A LOT!! Mix in all the fun side characters and it was a blast. I can’t wait to dive into the other audios to get to know Owen's brothers Dylan and Miles a lot better. And I love the narrators the author chose for all of them so much.

The story itself probably doesn’t quite deserve the five stars but with the duet narration/full cast production I had not only a lot of fun listening but was also bursting out laughing quite a few times. It was hilarious. So for all that alone I’m gifting this book the highest rating.

And omg I was laughing so hard at Frankie's and Owen's respective Voicemails to each other after they broke up as Fran Drescher and Maxwell Sheffield. –esp. since Frankie was Owen's son's Nanny for a time. ♡

And extra kudos to Emma Wilder for Frankie’s comedy singing act on stage with her ukulele!!!

Story 3 stars
Audiobook 5+++++

Honestly, I haven’t enjoyed an audiobook so much in a long time. The duel narration/full cast of characters was absolutely amazing. I think it pushed the rating up one star because the story itself was only 3 stars for me.

Obviously you can tell by the title it was going to be funny, maybe a little too much. I felt like every conversation/inner monologue was supposed to funny. I just wanted a normal conversation every once in a while. But the story itself is about a relationship between two comedians, so I guess it would be hard to write a story without throwing so much humor in. Maybe I’m just getting cranky in my old age, but a lot of it was just “meh”. That’s not to say I didn’t crack a smile or two.

If you have the opportunity to grab the audiobook, do it!

⭐⭐⭐ For the book
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ For the audiobook narration

🎧 Audiobook Review 🎧

While this cover is awfully ugly, the story was okay and the narration was Chef's kiss, so I guess we have a good balance here.

This is a story about two stand-up comedy actors, that didn't know each other personally, but banter through social media, and while he is successful in the business, she's not having the same luck in anything actually, so she's bitter.

There's tons of phone texts between everyone, back and forward using Twitter and lame fart jokes, and I really think that they lost a little of the glamour after the fifth time each.

I actually don't have much to say about this book...
It was cute, cliche, predictable and quick.
I thought it would be more funny though, and although I smiled here and there, it also failed at making me really laugh, and that's what I was aiming for.

🎧 About the Audiobook Narration 🎧

The duet narration, with a full cast, was the real enjoyment of this book!

Narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Emma Wilder and with the participation of Zachary Webber, Jason Clarke, Mackenzie Cartwright and Connor Crais.

The narration was Chef's kiss!
Duet narration is my favorite type of narration, and the full cast gave life to this book! I don't think I would enjoy it, if it wasn't for a bunch of my favorite narrators!

That's one of those cases where the book is better because of the audiobook!

One thing is for sure if you need a good chuckle Funny Business by Kayley Loring will probably give you one or ten or more. I enjoyed this book for the most part, but I will admit I had hoped for more intelligent humor than fart, poop, and d*ck jokes. This enemies to lovers, forbidden romance had heart, humor, and emotion something I’ve come to expect from this author.

Model turned stand-up comedian Owen Brodie is a single dad who adores his son, worries constantly about his relationship with his son, wonders when the public is going to realize he’s a comedy hack, and has just been hired to develop and star in a single-dad family comedy for a streaming service. Signing on for the show he knows his shows will mostly have to be PG-13, but he’s prepared for that. When he decides he wants to take his 8 year old son, Sam, on tour with him for a month to give his ex-wife and her new husband some time with their new baby and to make sure Sam gets the attention he deserves, he needs to hire a nanny. Turning to his agent for help, he recommends his niece, who has experience in child care but is also trying to break into stand-up comedy and once heckled him in a show 3 years prior. He doesn’t plan to hire her for one thing he realizes the sexual tension between them is not a good thing and secondly he doesn’t like her, but Sam adores her the minute he meets her and he’ll do anything for his son.

Frankie Hogan really, really doesn’t want to be a nanny for Owen Brodie, but with jobs full and far between she has no choice and Sam is a great kid so what if his dad is too handsome for his own good, a bit self centered, a jerk if she’s being honest, and so what if he didn’t answer her fan mail Christmas card she sent him when she was fourteen years old to his eighteen, she’s over that, been over it for years, she thinks.

I enjoyed these characters immensely and the tension between them was insane. I loved their banter, their texts and Twitter battles which were both smart and funny. I felt Owen’s character was pretty well developed as we got to see him interact with his parents and brothers during hilarious group text messages, but I felt a bit lost with Frankie. I feel like I never really got to the bottom of her snarky attitude, her love of comedy, or why she wanted to avoid her parents who were pretty delightful.

There were a lot of starts and stops to their relationship, but it worked because of their situation and honestly it added to the tension between them and helped them both figure out what they were feeling was more than lust/hate.

An enjoyable, sexy story filled with laughter and love, Funny Business was a great way to spend an afternoon.

I’m not sure what I was expecting out of this book. At least funny would be a factor. It wasn’t. The lead male character was bitter, narcissistic and unlikable. The female character was an alcoholic dumpster fire that took zero responsibility for her own failure as a human being. I personally do NOT recommend this book. Although considering all the social media trolls of today (2021) I’m sure there might be tons of people that would actually like this book and feel a personal connection to it possibly. So there’s that.

Funny Business is full of laughs and steam from page one and I couldn’t get enough of it.

Owen and Frankie had me dying of laughter so many times throughout the story. The banter and the chemistry between them are on point. I love the way they poke each other’s buttons but also can play off of each other when it comes to jokes. There is just so much to love about the two of them.

This is one of those stories that will just leaving you feeling good and it is like getting lost in your new favorite sitcom. From Frankie and Owen, to Sam, to the entire Brodie family and of course, Frankie’s family there are plenty of laughs and hilariousness that ensues.

If you’re looking for a laugh out loud, single father, rom com this is one to read!

Not really my kind of humor but it was okay

I haven’t read a book where the main characters were comedians. For that alone, I was super intrigued.
I think the author tried, I mean in love cheesy jokes but I wasn’t roaring with laughter either.
I did find the popular songs written to jokes a good touch! Overall, this book was okay.

A romance that was full of fun!

If you are having a bad day, read this book. It is certain to put a smile on your face. Owen & Frankie’s story was hilarious. I laughed my way through every single chapter. I loved the premise of the romance and I enjoyed Owen & Frankie’s relationship. The banter that they shared Kept me entertained throughout. Kayley Loring always creates such fabulous characters and this book was no different. I love the Brodie family, especially Sam, and I can’t wait to read more from them in future books. Another fab read from Kayley.

I've decided that Kayley Loring is like my sense-of-humor soulmate, but like, the kind that also writes the hottest sex scenes, which is a high priority for me and my role as a Smut Aficionado.

FUNNY BUSINESS is the book you need in your life this Summer! I laughed out loud IN PUBLIC like a deranged maniac and I'm not even upset about it.

Frankie is the most perfect, hilarious, April-Ludgate-esque character ever. Her dry sense of humor and completely unapologetic badassery is divine. And Owen is the perfect balance. These two together are funny, snarky, and insanely hot! Their hate-banter is *chef's kiss*!

Now, prepare yourself to slow clap...this book features are REAL KID. One who eye rolls and barfs at inopportune times and has quirks of his own. He is an actual character in this book, not just a recycled Jerry Maguire kid to facilitate tender moments. I feel like there should be a Nobel Prize in the "Real Kid in Romance" category. Just saying.

And because it's a Kayley Loring book, FUNNY BUSINESS also has vulnerable and sweet moments hidden in amongst the snort-laughs, hot sex scenes, and filthy jokes. This is a true Rom-Com that doesn't get too heavy, but still delivers swoony sighs!

Yes, I'm gushing. Get over yourself, Kayley Loring. Just because I'm gushing doesn't mean you're special. 😉

RATING:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
STEAM LEVEL: Rated R
TRIGGERS: None.
FEELS-O-METER: 1/5: Nothing too heavy. A true Rom-Com!!

I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, but you and I both know I always give it to you straight in my book reviews. Would I tell you I really dislike this book cover if I was just kissing ass for free books?

I went into this book with very high expectations. While I did enjoy the story, a lot of it seemed like juvenile humor and a little bit forced. I mean how many fart jokes or names for penis can you come up with? Still liked the fact that the story centered around 2 working comedians and one amazing kiddo. Gotta love when a book includes a single dad. That makes the story even better in my eyes. Makes me swoon over the men, in this case Owen, that are good dads.

The book starts out with Owen performing in Florida and he has a heckler. That heckler is actually pretty legit and helps push Owen even more. That heckler ends up being Frankie. Someone he meets a few years later under some different circumstances. Owen's whole schtick revolves around being the good looking comedian and while that's ok, it did get a little old. I loved Frankie and her snarkiness at the beginning, but then her personality kind of changed. But I think it was because of Owen and his son, Sam. With the stability of those two people in her life, she becomes something better. Still enjoyed her snark more than anything and wish we would've gotten more.

Overall, I liked the book, but I think this story would've been better to listen to. I've heard great things about the audio. So if given the choice, listen to the audio and enjoy the duet of two amazing performers taking on Frankie and Owen (and a few guests spots in the Brodie family). I think that would definitely bring the story alive and make the characters more real and relatable and laugh out loud funny!

4.5 out of 5

After the emotional previous book I read, I was ready for something light and cute. This book was the book I needed. I've read one book by Ms. Loring, it was the third book in the Brodie Brothers series so I thought I'd read this one, the first book in the series.

Our heroine, Frankie, is trying to make a name for herself as a stand up comedian but she's jut been fired. She heads to a comedy club, gets drunk as a skunk and heckles the main comic and our hero Owen Brodie. Though he's annoyed with her, he's also amused and thinks she was right, his act did stink.

Time passes as they kind of follow each other on Twitter. His marriage is over now and his ex is remarried though they stay in touch as they share a young son. And his star is on the rise. He's going to be starring in a streaming sitcom and he's about to go on a lengthy comedy tour.

Frankie, on the other hand, is still struggling, really struggling. But things take a turn when Owen, who has promised his son, Sam, he could go on tour with his dad, loses his Nanny and needs to find one - pronto. His manager recommends his niece for the position. She's between jobs, has experience looking after kids, has taken safety training and is perfect. One drawback though. Turns out the potential nanny is his nemesis and heckler Frankie. Neither of them think it could possibly work but Frankie and Sam bond with each other immediately and since Owen loves his son, well, Frankie it is.

This book is adorable. The two of them bicker and trash talk and find the other hilarious. And can we just say sparks fly like crazy. And Sam is just the cutest kid. I'm not always a big fan of kids in books even though, illogically I love single dad books. But in this case Sam is wonderfully written and really adds to the story.

I had lots of fun with this book. There are three brothers and the texts they send each other and often accidentally to their parents had me grinning like a Cheshire cat.

If you're looking for a book to put you in a good mood with smiles and chuckles throughout, this is a book you have to read.

“You’re the setup and the story arc and the main character and the conflict and the punchline.”

Kayley Loring is one hilariously witty and entertaining author, and if you haven’t discovered her rom com’s yet, then you’re missing out! Her wit, the banter between her characters, the warmth, swoon, and the heat are all trademarks of her stories which we crave and anticipate with every release.

The snarky humour in Funny Business gave us some giggles and the group text exchange (something Kayley Loring really excels at) was on point! And, after meeting Owen’s brothers, movie star Dylan and entertainment lawyer, Miles in Funny Business, we can’t bloody wait for more of this series.

Two comedians walk into a bar…Well, it didn’t actually happen that way! More… ridiculously handsome stand-up comedian/model Owen Brodie delivering his set in Tampa, whilst a disgruntled Frances (Frankie) Hogan, heckles him from the back of the room. For some reason, this guy grates on her every nerve. Exactly why, is something to discover later in the story.

“If we do this now, I’m going to give you everything. Even if it doesn’t last.”

Fast forward three years and their paths cross once again through Frankie’s Uncle Marty, who also happens to be Owen’s agent, arranges for Frankie to accompany Owen on his state-wide stand-up tour as Nanny to his sweet, laid-back seven-year-old son, Sam. Frankie is down on her luck, she has an instant rapport with little Sam and despite being aggravated by the charismatic Owen, she agrees to take the job. Besides, she and Owen can ignore the sexual chemistry, right? Right!!!

“You have to stop looking at me like that.”
“Like what?”
“Hot Guy Look.”
“I’m a hot guy. I can’t not do this.”

Funny Business is packed with antagonistic banter, family bonding, and passionate trysts. Tender moments appear courtesy of Owen’s son Sam and their wonderful relationship. The serious, nap-loving red-headed Sam and his ever-joking Dad bounced off each other beautifully. As did Sam and Frankie.

“He’s basically Garfield, but without the fur. Or the tail. Or four paws. Probably likes lasagne.”

We really enjoyed Funny Business. It provided many heart-warming and swoony moments! Our only niggle, as Danish/English and English/Australian readers, came from a personal bugbear. It’s always going to be a punt for an author to hit the mark with our country’s colloquialisms and whilst we understand the Aussie slang was written with exaggeration for laughs, it felt a tad over the top and outdated. The stand-up comedy routines also didn’t quite work in text, but these were very small issues in an otherwise funny, sweet, sexy, and entertaining story!

“I want your everything, Frankie. Even if it’s just a bottomless pit of sarcasm and veiled dick jokes.”

Owen is a famous comedian on the verge of getting his sitcom. He’s a single dad and in need of a nanny for his summer tour.

Frankie is young and trying her hands in comedy, shes had several jobs but is completely misunderstood hence the several jobs lol. Her uncle is an agent and is always her last resort for finding her a new job. Until he has the perfect one for the moment, becoming a Nanny for Owen.

The dynamic between Frankie and Sam, Owen's son is cool.

I have mixed feelings about this book, some parts were just ok and others were amazing. Took me quite some time to get rhythm of the story. Looking forward to the next one by Kayley.

I am very torn. I am on the verge of DNF'ing this. I like the story. It is very interesting and fun to read. But I hate Frankie. From the start I have disliked her. She is toxic, at least in terms of stantwt culture. As someone on stantwt, I have always hated people who hate on a celebrity for the sake of hate. Now, I know that it is explained why she hates him, but I still dislike her. She is 26 years old but is acting like a child because of an unanswered fanmail from her childhood crush. The fact that Owen finds her hot may be the only reason that he tolerates her troll behaviour in the beginning. Perhaps her real self is shown during the time that they spend together and he likes her because of it, but from the 50% mark where I am on this book, you cannot convince me that it's not just a physical thing for him and that it will develop into something more. I haven't really given up on this book just yet, but I am this close 🤏 to DNF'ing this.

Edit:
I am now at the 60% mark and I have decided to DNF this. Couldn't get into it anymore. Frankie is still immature and now the jokes aren't so funny anymore. I think the poop jokes should have just been in one or two chapters tops instead of it spilling to eight chapters. How many fart and poop jokes can one make/take?

Maybe this is a me thing? I don't like immature and bitter people IRL so I can't really tolerate them in fiction as well especially if they're the main character and I'm supposed to like them. 😫

Light and sexy fun

The lightest, funniest book I've read all year certainly deserves a 5-star rating... even if it's not a cut and dry one. I loved the playfulness of this exceedingly low angst romance, and I loved the sexual tension. It's got likable characters and such a unique vibe; it's so, so easy to tell that it's written by Loring. This is the perfect jumping in point for new fans - the story kicks off a brand new series of standalones, but there are (brief) appearances from some old favorites. I'll be the first to admit that the relationship is shallower than I'd like and the emotional connection is lacking, but I had a great time reading this - and it absolutely flew by.

The story follows Owen, a single dad whose career in comedy is really starting to come together. Three years ago, Owen was heckled by a drunken (yet sexy) fan while telling some tired jokes about his failing marriage. And he's been heckled by the same woman on social media since. When they finally meet face-to-face, Owen is at a very different place in his life, and his heckler is the potential new nanny to his son. Chemistry sparks between them immediately, and Owen knows that it's a bad idea to take Frankie on tour with him - they are sure to cross some lines, and that might not be the best thing for either of them.

Loring has such a distinctive writing style that's incredibly easy to binge. I had no trouble reading this in one sitting, and I had a smile on my face the whole time. There definitely could've been more relationship development and I think some of the humor could've been replaced with more swoon, but it was such a sweet/sexy read. There are great family moments paired with steamy, intense scenes, and I loved the combination. Owen is such a good hero, and I loved how strong Frankie is. They had some combustible chemistry, and make a perfect pair. It's not my favorite from the author, but it does an outstanding job of introducing this new series - and I am so ready for more.

5 “trouser monkey” stars for this hilarious gem.

Kayley Loring ALWAYS makes me finish her books & audiobooks in one day! It’s like listening crack. I simply cannot stop. This one gave my feels, feels and a single dad/nanny romance is just the dolewhip to my Disney World.

Nobody writes on the comedic level of Kayley Loring, and I do mean NO ONE. I go from laughing hysterically to squirming in my seat due to sexual “on page” delights. Teddy Hamilton & Emma Wilder did an outstanding stupendous job narrating. I felt like I was watching a five star romcom, but that’s what you get with every KL book. She gives me an instant lady boner like no other. It maybe crass, but it’s true. Her brain, and the sexy humor in which she writes is such a freakin turn on.

Comedic gold, people. Do yourselves a favor, and download this ebook or for a heightened experience—grab the audio. You will NOT be sorry.

Hmmmmm? 2 Stars

Despite the truly excellent performance (complete with accents, musical standup, Fran Drescher impersonations, actual ukulele playing etc. etc.) there were some super weird and confusing behaviours and dynamics between the MCs. I don't mind a sarcastic, crude duo but it got a little gaslight-y/emotionally abusive on both ends at times. The time jumps and poor lead-up to exchange of 'i love you' didn't help.

Like don't get me wrong, a good fart joke or penis euphemism will make me giggle like the immature 14-year-old I am at heart (I am 29, FYI) ... but it took up a lot of space in the story to the extent that it was used as a bludgeon or to get around any nitty gritty plot or emotional development.

Also, there is a Harvey Weinstein character in here... post MeToo... and he was not portrayed as the sexual predator he was based on. Which I found distracting, and also weird. Kayley, honey, he's getting life in prison WHY did you write a producer character off him as if he was only a semi-harmless asshole?

I also felt Owen hated his kid? There was so much humor at the expense of the poor little dude. Sam was like a caricature of a lactose intolerant child.

Anyways… Owen was the model of an oblivious, emotionally unintelligent adult man. He represents those men we criticize on TikTok and Instagram for making his ‘nagging’ wife the butt of a joke, puts the cognitive labor burdens of running a home on a woman, and hence is just your friendly, neighborhood, closeted misogynist. Dude absolutely would be under threat of being Red Pilled if he were real. This did not inspire me to root for him or his love story.

This book is hilarious! I actually laughed out loud. My sense of humor is desert dry and does not lend itself to lol-ing, but this book was just that funny.

Owen and Frankie are comedians with a history. Owen sees Frankie as the heckler that got away and against his libido’s better judgement hires her to be the nanny for his son, Sam. Hilarity ensues. And, I am now concerned about monitoring my children’s cheese intake. WYKYK.

Owen and Frankie have the most hilarious love/hate relationship. It’s definitely their “shtick” to be not so nice to each other. And whether it’s on Twitter, text message or in person, they can banter like none other. I had a little bit of a hard time warming up to these two in the beginning of the book, because they are both a little jerky in their own ways, but once they start working together that evens out.

When Owen and Frankie finally peruse the love side of their love/hate relationship, the sparks do not just fly - they perform a Disney-esque light show. They fully capitalize on the sexual tension that’s been building up between them. Wowza.

The only part cuter than Owen and Frankie falling in love, is Frankie’s relationship with grumpy Sam. He’s the cutest seven going on eighty year old. That Frankie draws Sam out of his shell with her sass is just amazing. Loved their interactions!

Great story and I hope this sets up stories for all of Owen’s brothers. Those boys need some love!

I received an advance reader copy of this book from Wildfire Marketing and these are my honest opinions.

***Audiobook Review***

Well SHIT 🤣!!! This is no Funny Business, this is serious written snark and aural awesomeness yet again, with an amazingly talented multicast who give us multiple eargasms to enhance our listening pleasure 😉! I just floved the energy between them all and how they brought each character to life.

Kayley Loring´s writing is da bomb and she always puts a very loud, very laughing smile on my face and I am sure on everyone else´s that is reading/listening to her books. Owen and Frankie's story is just so much fun with all that sexy flirty hilarious tension, fart jokes, Owen´s cheese-loving son Sam (#cheesepoop – god, love him), Frankie´s amazeball wannabe comedian parents, the accents and the banter between the brothers are just a few of the highlights in this loveable smexy rib-tickling romcom with a lot of heart and all the one-liners we are used to from her.

Kayley chose an incredible audio cast and I do admire each and every one of them but especially Emma Wilder for turning her words and ideas (which I am sure was not an easy task at times) into this incredible performance, props to Emma on her singing and uke skills. She slays this one!

Teddy Hamilton, loving him more with each performance, his charm, cockiness and being all swoony as Owen gave me goosebumps. He didn't only make Frankie weak in the knees.

Mackenzie Cartwright, Connor Crais, Jason Clarke and Zachary Webber make this multicast performance perfection voicing known characters from the “Name in Lights” series and introducing us to new ones.

Not sure how more to praise Kayley´s talent but she is THE #LadyHilariousMcFunnyPants which this book & audio cast channels perfectly. Thanks lady, for continuously putting that smile on my and other readers/listeners faces. Your sense of humour is always turned into comedy gold and is definitely making this book world richer 😘

“If we do this now, I’m going to give you everything. Even if it doesn’t last.”

One hell of a book!!! This story was absolutely perfect, funny, steamy, and so entertaining, that I couldn’t put it down. A rom-com; enemies to lovers, single dad meets the hot sassy nanny. The chemistry these characters have is off the charts.

Two sides of the same coin, one comedian in full bloom while the other one is looking for a chance to prove her worth. But when desperation strikes, Frankie needs a job, and Owen needs someone to look after his adorably weird son while on a stand-up tour; the perfect opportunity appears and now they find themselves together for a month… except that she hates him and he wants her; when two comedians try to fight the pull they have, you know something is going to explode.

Owen Brodie and Frankie Hogan are for sure one of my top five couples in rom-com, and just to be clear almost every spot on that list are Kayley Loring’s characters. I love how the story flows, it’s easy to fall in love with the plot, it’s even easier to love the characters; this is one of those stories you get to enjoy from the start and full belly laugh the entire time!

Kayley Loring has an amazing sense of humor, and you can totally feel it in her stories, she writes unique and hilarious characters that have great chemistry along the book, you feel the connection, the sexual tension and all the passion that Kayley narrates in it.

Funny Business by Kayley Loring was a laugh out loud, swoony, sexy, damn good time! Who knew that fart jokes and cheese poops could be so much fun?! Just saying, Kayley knows how to pull this off in her hilarious and talented writing. This audiobook is performed in duet narration with Teddy Hamilton and Emma Wilder featuring Zachary Webber, Mackenzie Cartwright, Jason Clarke, and Connor Crais! Basically, an EPIC multicast.

I love the whole concept of this book about one successful hunky single dad comedian, and an up and coming comedian trying to find her big break. At the beginning of the story Owen and Frankie have this love hate relationship (thanks Twitter) that immediately hooks your interest. However as the story progresses and Owen and Frankie are together more and more thanks to Owen's son Sam, their attraction to each other is simply undeniable.

This audiobook is cast to perfection. Teddy Hamilton and Emma Wilder's performances were super entertaining, and had me completely lost in Owen and Frankie's comedic world. Teddy did a fantastic job portraying Owen's humorous and charismatic personality, and Emma's sarcastic singing was awesome! Also, this entire multicast…gah...I loved! Their quick wit, snarky text exchanges, and variety of accents (Connor's Australian and Jason's Country accent) completely wowed me!

Kayley Loring books always make me ducking laugh, smile and swoon and leaves the biggest ducking grin on my face!

And we have another winner from Kayley Loring! Obviously hilarious, but also entertaining with witty banter and excellent characters. Funny Business is a contemporary romance between two comedians. It starts as enemies, turns to nanny/boss, quickly switches to more.

Their first encounter is absolutely hilarious! Frankie heckles Owen at one of his comedy shows. Fast forward several years later, she has moved on to trolling him on Twitter. Their exchanges were so entertaining. As fate would have it, she would interview for a job as his nanny. Owen absolutely does not want to hire her because she’s razzed him so much. But, when Owen’s son, Sam, meets Frankie and loves her, he has no option but to hire her. So, Sam and Frankie tag along for Owen’s cross country tour.

Owen and Frankie have obvious chemistry. Their witty banter interlaced with comedic barbs was so good. Loring has an incredibly clever mind! Add in lots of poop/fart jokes as well as some real good dad jokes, you’ve got a hit! The Brodie family are the real MVPs here. I was dying at their exchanges! I need so much more of all of them! You should definitely pick this one up especially if you are needing a good laugh!

*I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I enjoyed this snarky, low angst enemies to lovers story. Frankie and Owen’s love story is funny, sexy and sweet. There were a few sections that dragged, but overall, it was a great read. Owen is a well-known male model, stand-up comedian, and he’s about to start in a television series. He’s also a divorced single dad. Three years ago, while his marriage was ending, he did a stand-up show in Tampa where he was heckled by a woman. Frankie was that woman. Since then they’ve traded Twitter DMs and comments but have never “met” IRL. Frankie is a struggling comic, and she hates Owen’s stupid, handsome face and does not think he’s funny. The laughs and the snark are multiplied when Frankie gets a job as a temporary nanny for Owen’s son while he’s on a month long comedy tour. It was wonderfully hilarious to follow these two on their journey to their HEA. Along the way, they each got the opportunity to deal with their feelings for each other, to let go of some of their past, and to come to terms with how they view themselves. The text messages and Twitter barbs between the two of them throughout the book are laughing out loud, funny, and snort worthy.

Meet these two comedians, single dad, and the little grumpy quirky little Sam. Looking for a nanny for his son on his tour, Frankie fits the bill, but while there are sparks, they also antagonize each other, through voicemails, texts, social media. Frankie is sort of trying out the comedic career, while Owen is heading on tour for his growing career. I found the texting with Owen’s family funnayyyy. These two were ridiculously unaware but in love with each other. Sam though, he was quite fun and adorable in his own little way. A little hard to get into in the beginning but it got better for me as it went on. Looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

What an endearing and charming rom com! Anytime I see the words “single dad” and “nanny” in a synopsis, I immediately add the book to my tbr. Combined with the fact that the two main characters are both stand up comedians, I knew I was in for a treat. I also loved all of the side characters and can’t wait for their books. This was laugh out loud funny and all it needed was more of an emotional connection between Owen and Frankie.
