In this emotionally gripping tale, two writers meet on vacation and spend a perfect week together, falling immediately, deeply in love. But when they accidentally lose contact, both fly back home to do as writers do: write about it. What could possibly go wrong?

Two years ago, romance novelist Melody Adams and aspiring author Beckett Nash had a whirlwind romance on a dream vacation to Aruba. She was with her ailing mother; he was on a personal writing retreat, trying to finish his very first novel. But their seven-day love affair unraveled when a cascade of mixed signals and disastrous timing caused them both to miss their flight home. Unable to reach each other, both concluded they were being dumped at the worst possible moment.

Then, they each wrote a book about it.

Now, two years later, Beckett has skyrocketed to fame while Melody's been labeled a copycat. Reviewers call her book a “cheap knockoff” of Beckett’s “debut masterpiece.” The only way to set the record straight is to reconnect and clear up the confusion. But Beckett is engaged to someone else, and Melody is drowning in a maelstrom of her own unresolved feelings. Reuniting with Beckett Nash is about the last thing she needs in her life right now. What's the point, anyway, since they've both moved on...right?

One Week Later written by K.J. Micciche was a deeply emotional summer romance novel that captured my heart and broke it into a million pieces. Of course it's winter so I had to read a summery book that took place on the beautiful island of Aruba while I sat here under a blanket sipping hot chocolate missing the beach. I have been on a pink cover binge lately and this cover artwork is absolutely stunning, plus if I miss the beach I can just be reminded of this book over and over again. One Week Later was inspiring, emotional, beautiful, powerful, and heart breaking. As a beach lover, I devoured this book in one day, it had me smiling, it had me laughing, and it even had me holding back tears. As a beach lover, this book was so perfect, there's just something about the waves crashing together, sand between your toes, and seagulls flying overhead that just brings me a sense of calming. The only complaint I had is when this book went back in the past, there was no indication, it just immediately went back in time which was just a bit confusing for me, but nonetheless it never took away from my enjoyment. I have never read a book written by K.J. Micciche before, but this certainly won't be my last. One Week Later is for the beach girlies, this book better be in your beach bags and your calendars better be marked for January 20th, 2026 because this summer romance is not one you want to miss out on. I can't wait to have this beautiful book on my bookshelf.

Melody and Beckett first met in Aruba and fell in love with each other, but their actual first encounter happened on their JetBlue flight when a seating arrangement had to be made and then Beckett was seated next to Melody where he helped her through her anxiety of flying on an airplane. Melody and Beckett had instant chemistry, they were just perfect together, they had the cutest dates and the best time being in each other's presence. In Aruba, Melody and Beckett had a seven day summer whirlwind romance where they crashed a beach wedding, stolen spicy moments/stolen kisses, midnight swims, intimate conversations, and so many other fun things planned. On their last day, they were supposed to fly home together, but neither one of them showed up for their flights, so now they broke each other's heart in Aruba. After having their heart broken in the process, Melody and Beckett both wrote a book about their time and their romance that happened in Aruba, they both wrote a book but in very different ways just with the exact same three sex scenes in the same order. They haven't spoken to each other in two years after their Aruba fling, but after issues with their books, Melody and Beckett have to do a joint interview with People Magazine, the pitch is- My Side Of The Story; when two authors write the same back. I absolutely loved Beckett and Melody from the very beginning of this book, I couldn't help but cheer both of them on because they were just the sweetest. But you will need to read this book to know more about their trip in Aruba and why they both missed their flights.

Melody Adams and her mother Birdie Paulson planned a seven day Christmas vacation in Aruba after Birdie was diagnosed with congestive heart failure at just sixty-three years old, their trip was from Christmas to New Years just to spend mother and daughter time. Birdie refers to Melody as Pretty Girl, but their relationship was just so precious and beautiful, it often felt like I was a part of their mother daughter duo. Melody has been a high school English teacher for ten years, but now she's a teacher turned writer and has published many books. After her trip in Aruba, Melody's fourth book has to be a romance and she's facing a deadline, so she turns her heart break into a novel and Holiday Island blooms with her publisher Cabaret Books. After her book releases, Goodreads reviewers are saying that Melody plagiarized Beckett's book and now Holiday Island is referred to as a cheap knockoff of Beckett's debut masterpiece. I absolutely loved Melody, after the Aruba trio with her mama, she was put through hell and back, I just wanted to reach into my kindle and give her the biggest hug after learning everything she went through. I truly don't understand how one person can go through so much heart break and be referred to as a cheap knockoff of another person without knowing her story. I can't wait for readers to know Melody's story, she truly was such an inspiring character, she just has a heart of gold and I know many readers will love Melody Adams.

Beckett Nash is the male version of Rebecca Yarros (minus the dragons). Before his Aruba trip, Beckett was an aspiring author and in the middle of writing a science-fiction family time travel book. Beckett used the Aruba trip as a Christmas gift to himself as a writing retreat to try and find inspiration for his book. Beckett is a park ranger at a state park in Long Island, he's also a science nerd, he had a bunch of different science majors in college because he couldn't make up his mind. On his Aruba trip, Beckett spent the morning writing his novel, but spent the afternoon with Melody and her mom doing a bunch of fun activities. Beckett described Melody as incandescent, but soon we later learn that Beckett is the King of gas lighting because he wanted everyone to see him as a good guy. After his Aruba trip, Beckett also turned his heart break into a novel and his debut- The Beginning of Everything was born which is about a whirlwind week long love affair on a tropical island. After his book releases, Beckett is fastly rising to stardom, he has a fast selling debut novel and he's dating Analise Renda who is popular because she's the lead singer of Untethered which is an insanely popular all girl band. Beckett's story was also heart breaking, his childhood story just brought me to tears. It truly was so hard not to root for both of these amazing characters, I just loved both of them so much. I absolutely adored how Beckett included Melody's mom in their adventures during their Aruba trip, he truly warmed my heart with his kindness. Beckett Nash, I definitely won't forget about you.

4,5 ⭐️

This was a total 5 star read for me to be honest. There was just one thing that I will mention at the end of my review that made me change it to 4,5 stars but if you aren’t bothered by that then this would absolutely be a 5 star read for you.

This book follows Melody and Beckett. Both Auhtors. Both on their way to Aruba. Both for entirely separate reasons. They had absolutely no reason to ever cross paths but fate had something else in mind.

Melody is an author with a not very big, yet consistent following. She flies from New York to Aruba together with her mom, who is terminally ill. This would be their last trip together in order to celebrate life and enjoy all that it has to give. A simple girls trip consisting of good food, lots of sunbathing and cocktails and the occasional swim and massage. At the airport she meets Beckett who so generously offers to switch seats with her mom so her mom can have a window seat. This puts them next to each other for the entire flight. Beckett is an aspiring author who is stuck on where to go with his story and decided to take a trip to Aruba to get some writing inspiration. Obviously they instantly click. They spent the most amazing week together but when Melody comes back from Aruba and finds out she hasn’t heard anything from him, she feels heart broken. She thought they had something special. Only she doesn’t know his part of the story. To process and accept what happened, Melody decides to write a book about their romantic week in Aruba.

Beckett comes home from Aruba and suddenly finds out he can’t reach Melody anymore. He tries everything and nothing works. In a last attempt to get Melody’s attention, he also writes a book about their week in Aruba. Only his book comes out before Melody’s book. Readers quickly pick up on how similar their books are and call Melody out for plagiarism. To shut down the rumors and defuse the situation, Melody and Beckett are forced to do an interview together to explain everything to the readers. Will this help them understand each others side of the story? Can they put their past behind them and move on?

You read the whole book from Melody’s perspective which switches between her current life, her life two years ago during the week in Aruba, and Becketts version of the story told through his book. I really liked the idea of reading a book within a book. I thought the whole book was so incredibly creative and original. The only part that in my opinion should have been different was the amount of times things like Instagram, tiktok, goodreads, even Netgalley, booktok and bookstagram were mentioned. I feel like this takes away of the fiction and imagination of the book and it’s just always been something I can’t enjoy. Also something I noticed was that the author really tried to include Dutch culture which on its own is a big plus obviously. However, I am Dutch and I did not agree with some of the things going on. At one point they mentioned they were going to a pancake house for breakfast and Melody got a pancake with Brie, walnuts and honey. Weird combination but yes that definitely exists. Only we would never eat that for breakfast. Those pancake places are either lunch or dinner but most likely dinner. Pancakes are not a breakfast food and especially not one with those toppings. Other than that I can tell the author either did a lot of research, or has gone to Aruba herself because you could tell she knew what she was talking about!!

Overall I really 100% recommend you read this. It’s a very emotional story and it made me cry IN PUBLIC…. embarrassing but very much needed. If this is not on your tbr yet, let this be your sign.

A huge thankyou to Netgalley, Cosmo Reads and the author of this book, KJ Micciche, for allowing me the opportunity to read this arc!!!

Thanks NetGalley for the Arc!

I REALLY wanted to love this book. The concept is really interesting. As someone who is an avid reader who runs across similar plots I love this idea of having a backstory of two writers, experiencing something together and writing a book based on that experience. I think having us experience some things through mmcs writing was a really creative choice.

Sadly for me the relationship between Bennett & Melody just felt very lackluster. About halfway through the book I just don’t understand why they like each other. I don’t really feel the chemistry. The only thing they share is the fact that they are writers. The relationship just feels very shallow and I don’t even get why Bennett wants to ask her to be his girlfriend. There has been zero emotional development. I think part of the problem for me as we don’t actually ever see them having conversations. When they are having that final romantic dinner in Aruba instead of getting deep and meaningful conversation we get “oh they laughed about the events of the last week.” So much of this book is spent telling us about this electric connection between Bennett and Melody and there is not one instance where we see that connection on display in an organic way

Thank you Cosmo Reads & RB Media for the ARC & ALC. All opinions are my own.

I really loved the premise of this book, so I stuck it out, hoping it would get better - unfortunately for me, it did not.

Story - 2 writers meet on vacation, fall in love, somehow lose contact, both write a book about their fling, and now that they’re being published, Melody is being accused of copying Beckett’s book.

I think my biggest issue with this book is the way it’s written - I found it chaotic and hard to follow. There are no chapter or section titles to say what’s going on, and the book jumps between present day, and then the 2 perspectives of the MCs time on vacation - the FMC’s (which I think is “real”) and the MMC’s, told through the novel he wrote.

I didn’t really feel their chemistry, and there were so many moments I just didn’t understand the choices made for the story.

So… why am I still giving it a 3? 😅
Something DID hook me, and had me read through to the end… I feel like if it were truly awful, I would have actually DNF-ed.
I just can’t fully process what I actually did like about this one.

🎧
I’m not sure how I felt about either narrator, I don’t think they helped with my perception of the story unfortunately.
The male narrator reads the MMC’s “book” sections, while the female narrator does the rest.

Melody and Beckett had one perfect week together in Aruba, but then they lost contact and both processed what they thought was being dumped by writing a book about it. Now upon release Melody is being accused of plagiarism.

The story ties present and past together with a dual POV and chapters of the book. It pulls you in from the very beginning and holds you in a tight grip wanting to know how everything comes together and what happened!

This is an absolutely amazing book that I recommend for anyone who loves a captivating, sweet, raw, emotional, layered love story!

I also really enjoyed the narrators: both have a nice voice to listen to and read with enough emotion!

Swoony from the start, I was completely captivated by this romance. The story was heartfelt, the characters were believable, and the ending had me so happy. I loved the way the timelines were woven throughout, it really kept me eager to keep reading. At just over 300 pages, I thought it was the perfect length for the story and wouldn’t have wanted anything more or less. Definitely recommend!

I picked this up based on the description, and even though I'm not a huge fan of miscommunication as a major plot point, I enjoyed going along for the ride and seeing how the story unfolded in the two timelines of the "real" timeline and the book timeline. No spoilers, but despite not liking miscommunications, I was satisfied with how everything came together, though the last few chapters were difficult to read due to Melody's reason for missing the flight home.

It was a bit too instalove-y for my tastes, but the way the timelines worked helped to smooth out the speed of their relationship.

The majority of this was a pretty lighthearted read, but it became more bittersweet and sad towards the end, so I wouldn't recommend if you only want a lighter read.

Two writers meet on vacation and fall in love. When they are set to leave, everything unravels. Why not write about it?

Two years later, Beckett has become a highly rated author and Melody labeled a copycat for their similar stories based on their whirlwind trip to Aruba and love story. The only way to set the record straight is to meet up and hash it out… but will they?

Cute story overall! Some of the scenes were a little cringey, in my personal opinion. I would however be curious to read more from this author.

I received this ARC from Netgalley.
The premise of this book was good, but the execution was not.
Was I reading a novel or a travel guide? I don't need details about every store and restaurant in Aruba and I definitely do not need to hear about every item on a restaurant's menu.
I do not care for books that go back and forth in time. This book not only did that, it added a book within the book. The formatting let me know when I was reading the book within the book, but I had to figure out if I was in Aruba or New York with each chapter.
I just was not a fan.

Sooo good!

I didn’t know what to expect going into the story. Ig star tts slightly slow and then it builds at a continuous and consistent pace. It never slacks up and doesn’t loose the plot or the emotion.

What I thought was going to be a hilarious romcom (yes there are some funny and cute moments especially between mom and daughter) turned in a lovely and heartfelt story about an improbable meet-cute and second chances and learning to let go. The story had me laughing, swooning, cheering, grieving, and pining. I loved every bit of the story from start to finish. I did tear up several times.

The characters were real, had real emotions, problems, issues, and anxieties. They worked through them as best they could. There is a slight miscommunication trope. I usually don’t love these. However for this story, it made sense to the plot because of what the characters were going through in their daily lives.

Both main characters were wonderfully written. I loved their dynamic in the story. I loved our main character’s mom and how dearly she loved her daughter and wanted the best for her and did everything to make sure she was happy.

This story touched my heart as a mom and I really want to suggest it to my daughter.

Tropes/themes: meet cute, celeb romance, art imitates life, authors, vacation romance, second chances, anxiety, imposter syndrome, grief, parental sickness, slight miscommunication, learning to live

Thank you so much for the opportunity to review this book! I loved it so much!

Thanks Cosmo Reads and RBmedia for the eARC and ALC of One Week Later by K.J. Micciche.

Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I had issues with the logic of the plot and how miscommunications were portrayed initially for suspense and impact and just made the main character seem like she'd lost the plot a bit. I did not find the main characters enticing, or believe their chemistry, discourse and connection as it was written on the page seemed believable and was worth the big gestures and big reactions that snowballed from it.

Thing's I did enjoy:
1) The call out to other (real) romance novels and authors
2) The detailed settings description while they were on vacation in Aruba
3) The concept of two different books being published about a real experience between the FMC and MMC and being read in excerpts to relay the history between them. (however, delivery could have been better, sometimes got a bit convoluded)

The remainder of this review are things that made me dislike this book.
I found the characters fairly boring. The persistent "pretty girl" nickname felt over the top in it's frequency of use and annoying. Maybe it was the voice it was said in by the narrator that made it particularly cringey, but in general just felt awkward and excessive in it's use.

The discourse between the FMC and MMC while in Aruba did not convince me there was enough spark there to be pulling out these grand gestures on the final night together, or that they fell in love under a week. (Especially when you hear what happened between them in Aruba essentially twice over from each character and it's still not convincing from either POV).

"He could be 'The One'" on day six of vacation was bananas based on what the reader had been shown.

How is the FMC saying he ghosted her and broke her heart, and harbouring all this anger when she didn't respond to his messages? I know she thinks they were months later (even though they weren't), but she also blocked his number after only 4 days of not hearing from him - without ever trying to reach out to him herself and checking to see if anything happened to him. I get the most simple explanation was that he got back to the USA and neglected to text her and to be upset about that - but to say he ghosted her and not claim any responsibility for their lack of contact following their vacation fling is narrow-minded and ignorant.

Why did he get engaged if he was still in love with someone else? Why is he kissing her when he's still engaged? When they meet up his reasoning is "it's always been you" and ignores his fiancee's call as they kiss... icky. Also he says that he should have proposed "the first time around"... after 6 days in Aruba? Delusional coocoo bananas.

It was a no for me based on flat characters and logic holes. I also didn't love the narrators - in particular the male one.

There are so many good romance novels out there - while it wasnt terrible, it just isn't on par with many I would recommend.

This book was exactly what my mental health needed this week. I usually dislike the miscommunication trope, but it was handled so thoughtfully and realistically here that it actually worked for me. Melody and Beckett’s whirlwind week in Aruba felt so real and romantic, and the way their lives fall apart afterward was genuinely heartbreaking. I loved watching them grow as individuals and then slowly find their way back to each other. There were moments that made me laugh, moments that were so tender and sweet, and moments that absolutely wrecked me emotionally. This story takes you on a full emotional journey, and the payoff is so beautiful and satisfying. A heartfelt and healing read that I know I’ll remember for a long time.

Oh, I love it, I love it! Loved the summery island vibes. Listened to it in one sitting.
Fun, realistic and emotional at the same time. Loved the fact that our two main characters are authors. The right person, wrong time trope was done very well.
The mother-daughter dynamic was one of the best parts about the book!

2 stars 🌟 i severely underestimated how awful this would be wow 😭 this was the most dramatic book i have read in a really long time! what i thought would be a cute second chance romance was a poorly written saga 😟 i won’t lie, i flew through the first 50% but everything after was genuinely unbelievable 🇦🇼🍹📖 this was one of the most show not tell insta love books ive ever read, so much so that i barely cared for this couple 😔 also the miscommunication 😅 it’s like if all the worst tropes happened within 30 pages

and i mean come on how do you even come up with a 3rd act like that??? its literally unreal and NOT in a good way way 😹 and for them to get married at the end with the way things were wrapped up??? bye

it was good for a split second but VERY QUICKLY got on my nerves if you can’t already tell

This is the perfect book for a Saturday afternoon! I really enjoyed the story of Melody and Beckett meeting while each is on a vacation in Aruba! They spend a wonderful week getting to know each other, feeling as if they have found someone really special. Unfortunately, some chaos while leaving causes them to miss getting each other’s contact info, and both think they have been ghosted. Two years later, they have each written a book on that special week in Aruba. Beckett’s is a huge success, but the internet thinks Melody has stolen his story.
They have misunderstandings to clear up before they’ll know if this was just a week in paradise, or something more.
Melody’s mom, Birdie, is a delightful spit fire that keeps the story fun and light.

Wow. It isn’t often I’m surprised by book plots anymore. Esp with rom coms and meet cutes. I feel like there are so many tropes. Not with this book. At least not for me. So many surprises and twists and unexpected turns. Great characters. Very well written. Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Started out as a sweet story, but had some of the most awkward romantic scenes I’ve ever read. I have now had to read the words “nectar of rapture” one time in my life, and that is one time too many.

This was also a book that one conversation between the MC’s would have solved.

One Week Later was everything I expected it would be going in. Reading the blurb, I was already invested in what the story would bring and it did not disappoint. This book definitely needs to go on your summer TBR, because it has all the summer vibes. I laughed out loud, cried, went through the whole emotional roller-coaster, only to end up with happy tears in my eyes in the end. This book broke and healed my heart at the same time. This was my first read by this author, but I will be keeping an eye out for more of her work. I highly recommend this book!

The concept of this book was really interesting (I liked the idea of the story within the story), I understood the vision but the execution just didn’t do it for me. With the audiobook, if you don’t pay close attention, it’s easy to miss the switches between the romance of the characters as it played out in real time vs the way the events were portrayed in their books. I didn’t like the use of the “it’s always been you” line to give permission for what was essentially cheating. It seems out of character for the MMC. As for the quality of the audio narration, it wasn’t terrible but the performances were a bit bland.

While I enjoyed the romance between the main characters overall, the most compelling part of the story was the relationship between the FMC and her mother and then her battle with grief and guilt (as someone who recently lost a parent, it was relatable).

And as a heads up to the readers who might care (I am not one of them), there are a lot of pop culture references in this book.

Such a great read! This was both a slow burn and so fast! Soulmates and tragedy...sigh.

I fell for it all! Beckett's grand gestures are so grand and pure and so loving...I think this book will give you all the feels!

Sidenote, I didn't care for how Beckett's book read. It felt like a juvenile's diary and not like a romance book that is at the top of the bestsellers lists.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the ALC in exchange for an honest review!

I swear, this book's rating kept going down half a star the longer I listened to it...

Overall, this book was fine. I liked the idea of two authors writing the same book because of them both basing it on their shared experience. I enjoyed the idea of Melody having to face what happened because of an upcoming reunion. The mother-daughter relationship was great.

But what do you mean 75% of this story is just flashbacks and Melody sitting there reading Beckett's book??? And when they DO finally meet, I get such an ick over what is basically shrugged-off emotional cheating behavior.

Not to mention so much of the plot revolves around Beckett having taken off as an author, and just... I have so many issues with that. For one, the book wasn't even that phenomenal. It was okay at best, and readers would 100% be infuriated by this book. I am on Threads. I see the discourse over a romance requiring a HEA. Beckett's book doesn't have that, and readers would be FURIOUS. Sure, maybe it's not marketed as a romance, but it's written as one. Also, this is ROMANCE. There's no way that typical-romance-readers would side with the man author over the woman. Sooo many romance readers skip over man-written romance because of expecting it to be ick. Not saying all do, but many do.

I'm convinced the only contributing factor for Beckett's famous fiancee is because the book would have flopped otherwise, because she adds NOTHING ELSE. She releases Beckett from their engagement so easily so he can be with Melody in the end, and the primary issue for Melody is how her relationship with Beckett splintered after the one-week, not that he's engaged.

So, if I'm so blah about this book, why 3 stars? Because the past bits were genuinely enjoyable, especially because of Melody's mom. Romance was okaaaay, but I loved Birdie and could totally understand why Melody adored her so much.

Beckett and Melody meet on vacation in Aruba and fall hard, fast. After the trip, they both believe the other ghosted, when in reality fate and life kept them apart. They are both writers, and they end up writing the same book about their vacation from their own POV. Beckett’s book becomes wildly successful, Melody’s does not. Melody never reads his book and assumes the public blames her for plagiarism because of the similarities.
Melody travelled with her sick mom, who keeps encouraging her to pursue Beckett, which adds a bittersweet layer to the story. Beckett, meanwhile, keeps spending more money than he has to impress her, something that felt odd but consistent with his character while they are on vacation. Once they leave Aruba, life hits them both with separate traumas they are unaware of, and they each get swallowed by their own chaos, losing communication and ultimately blaming one another for the split.
When Melody finally talks to Beckett again, (he’s engaged now) and he tells her to read the book because she never did. That is when she realizes it was not just a retelling of their vacation, but a love confession written for her, which was one of the more redeeming moments in the story.
The premise was genuinely good and there were some fun, sweet moments. That said, the relationship moved very quickly into falling in love with a stranger after a week, which did not quite work for me. There also was not much emotional buildup early on to really pull me into their connection.
Cute concept, not the best execution, but still not a bad read.

“Fiction is just truth hiding in plain sight.”
This line from KJ Micciche’s One Week Later stayed with me long after I closed the book. It’s the perfect heartbeat for a story that explores how we process our deepest hurts, whether by writing them into a bestseller or hiding them from the people we love most.
The tension between Melody and Beckett is incredible. Two years after a life changing week in Aruba, they find themselves accidentally competing with novels based on the same heartbreak. Their chemistry is electric, but it’s the truth buried inside their fiction that makes their reunion so explosive and compelling. Every scene between them crackles with longing, regret, and the possibility of something new if they’re brave enough to claim it.
While the romance is sizzling, the relationship between Melody and her mother, Birdie, provides the book’s emotional core. Their bond is tender and fiercely real. Watching Melody navigate love, grief, and identity through the lens of her relationship with Birdie adds a richness you don’t always find in standard rom-coms.
One Week Later is a gorgeous exploration of the stories we tell the world and the truths we keep for ourselves. It’s a romance, a family drama, and a tribute to second chances all rolled into one. If you want a book that will make you laugh, cry, and immediately look up flights to Aruba, this is it.

Thank you KJ Micciche for the opportunity to read an ARC of this beautiful story in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. ARC provided by RBmedia.

Reviewers call her book a "cheap knockoff" of Beckett's "debut masterpiece." The only way to set the record straight is to reconnect and clear up the confusion. But Beckett is engaged to someone else, and Melody is drowning in a maelstrom of her own unresolved feelings. Reuniting with Beckett Nash is about the last thing she needs in her life right now. What is the point, anyway, since they have both moved on right?

One Week Later is about two writers meet on vacation and spend a perfect week together, falling immediately, deeply in love. But when they accidentally lose contact, both fly back home to do as writers do: write about it. What could possibly go wrong?

for those like me who like to prep ahead, I'm talking about how it's still winter and I'm here thinking about my summer TBR and this book SHOULD BE THE FIRST ONE ON YOUR LIST. Get a spicy drink when you sit down and read it! It's a super easy read, fluffy in some corners but still very humane in others. It touches some hard subjects like death and the griefing process. But I think that's what makes this book even more beautiful than the cover, how real and raw the characters are. Melody's overthinking reminded me of myself.. A LOT. and Beckett's love for writing reminded me to just go ahead and say "screw it, I'll just start with telling my own version".

From an amazing cute-meet, to almost being made enemies, this book will have you hooked and immersed. This is my first book by KJ Miccichi and will be the first of many.

tropes:
missed communication
second chance
public eye
spicy

thank you for the opportunity to review this book, I had an amazing time. Can't wait for my physical copy to get here and read it all over again over the summer (manifesting I'll get to read it in Aruba someday).

Thank you to Net Galley, the author and Cosmo Reads for gifting me this ARC. I’m truly grateful and every opinion in this review is of my own.

Review time!!

I do have to say that this book truly did confuse me. A lot of it felt as if the book was rushed and just overall a tad too messy for my likings. There were a lot of things I enjoyed about this book, but it was just underwhelming in a way.

The things I did enjoy was the book structure. At first, it was really confusing, but then I understood that there were flashbacks to Beckett and Melody in Aruba. Specify it, please next time. It took couple of chapters to understand what that was about.

Nonetheless, when I understood it, the book was quite enjoyable. In a way, we got Beckett’s point of view flashbacks, which were fun.

But I have another issue, this whole situation, with their relationship was so messy. The whole engaged part? I was already apprehensive with him being ‘engaged’, regardless of it all, it was a big no. I don’t like hints of cheating, even if it wasn’t (ifywim) it just felt iffy for me personally.

Melody’s mom? Man, I’m confused, plus weirded the flip out.

Anyways, this book had the right intention. The structure is something I genuinely liked but a lot could be improved in this book. I liked it, but I know I could have loved it. If only it was done right.
