A mage fighting shadows. A witch blinded from love. A fated bond threatened by a lone white dove.
Ghosts have been an inescapable part of Skye’s reality from a young age. But when the things that go bump in the night suddenly bleed into her everyday existence, she knows there’s a big problem. When Skye returns to Cutters Cove, she is reacquainted with her childhood best friend Wesley–a jaw dropping hot sensor mage. But it seems the passing years have inflated his ego. Because now he’s cocky, cheeky, and her brother's best friend. A walking reg flag. He’s everything she should avoid, and she knows it. When Wesley claims Skye’s his fated mate, she doesn’t believe him. She's heard about the mate bond, and the instant connection she most certainly does not feel. But Wesley will not give up on her, desperate to claim what is his. When the past and present collide, threatening their love, exploring the realm of the unknown may be the only way forward to cement their fated bond.
Wesley's Blurb (Unofficial) I’ve found her. My mate. Turns out I’ve known her for years. But life is never that easy, and I have two problems. She’s my best friend's sister, and she doesn’t feel our bond. I won't stop until I have answers, until she's mine. Even if it breaks me.
Unhinged Magic is book 2 in the Cutters Cove Witches series. Each book follows a different couple and their story, but their tales interconnect and need to be read in order to avoid spoilers. This book is a steamy paranormal romance set in a gothic inspired world full of magic and mystery, with a happily ever after. **Contains profanity & sexual content (open door). Mention of non consensual sex (off page)**
Rachel Scotte is a New Zealand author writing her debut paranormal romance novel Untraced Magic, the first installment in the Cutters Cove Chronicles. Think small town gothic vibes, magic, curses and sexy alphas.
Rachel writes between running her full time accommodation business and looking after her 2 daughters. While making motel beds, she is creating her next book and its characters in her head, a coffee never too far away.
This was a fun, lightly spooky read giving off all sorts of The Vampire Diaries vibes.
It starts off at the very beginning of the same timeline of Untraced Magic so I kind of wish I had reread that before starting this because, goldfish brain, but it still made sense.
I loved Wes and Skye together but damn they did not have it easy. There was a lot of miscommunication and standing in each other’s way but eventually it all came together and it was very sweet.
I’d forgotten about the betrayal in book one so that came as a shock to me but I loved that we got do see Wesley’s side of it. I can’t imagine how emotionally traumatising that was for everyone involved but I think Rachel covered it really well.
I love the found family Rachel has created with this small group of friends. As I said earlier, this gave me major TVD vibes, especially the fact that almost all the characters have both good and bad morals. Nobody’s perfect and there’s so much room for magical error. Each character is so fascinating though but I’m especially excited for the day we get Reid’s story.
I’m loving this series so far! It gives me all the nostalgic cosy but spooky vibes of the late 90’s - mid 00’s. It brings to mind movies and shows like The Secret Circle, Charmed, and Twilight and any adult who grew up loving witches and vampires and all sorts of things that go bump in the night is sure to love this!
From the first book, I liked Skye's character and found her powers and personality very interesting. I was suspicious of Wesley after what happened in the first book, which changed my opinion of him. I liked being able to see his perspective because more about the character is revealed.
The love relationship between Wes and Skye is beautiful, and although it was complicated, they never gave up. Although I thought something was going to happen with Edward🤭
Speaking of the author, I really like her writing style, which is impossible not to imagine yourself in the story. Each character this author created is unique, and it's impossible not to love them.
I can't wait to read the next story about this group of friends. Before reading this book, I recommend reading the first one to get a little more context. Even though they are different couples, the stories are intertwined.
I really enjoyed the vibes of book one but this one really hooked me in! I can definitely see the progression and confidence Rachel has grown in her writing style in this book! this one is definitely spicier than the first one but I also really love all the mystery to the plot!
I also love how much mystery there is around the other characters which leaves you itching for more books!
I loved Untraced magic, so I was so excited to read Unhinged magic. I love how Rachel Scotte had both books with over lapping timelines. The town of cutters cove seems like such a dream. I would love to live there!!! If you love vampire diaries if u love spice & elemental witches go read this series.
This is the second book from the Cutters Cove Witches. The romance between Wes and Skye is so beautiful to see, and even though they both had struggles, they never gave up on each other. I really like Rachel Scotte writing style. And every character Scotte created is pure magical.
Can’t wait for the next book.
Rachel Scotte send me a copy of her book in exchange for an honest review
I said it for book one and I’ll say it for book two. Rachel writes characters that you WANT to be friends with. You want to live in this little coastal town and do all the day to day things that these coastal people do.
I LOVED Wes and Skye’s story and it brought such a different view to the idea of soulmates.
There are so many dynamics explored in this book. There’s the mates, siblings, best friends and new friends. It’s a little bit of spooky, a little bit of heartbreak and a lot romantic.
