When good natured Charles Western inherits a multi-million-dollar fortune he uses the money to set up a literary magazine. But when the amateur writers he employs conspire against him, he knows he needs help.
Worldly, daring, and ruthless, Charles’s friend Sam, sets about settling scores and righting wrongs, as well helping Charles sweep the girl of his dreams off her feet.
But Sam’s daring comes at a cost. Sam soon has Charles in trouble with the university left, three spy agencies on three continents, and most importantly with his nan.
My Friend Sam is an anti-woke comedy set-in modern-day Melbourne Australia.
I found this book to be an enjoyable read. A new book from an Australian self published author. Positives: I enjoyed getting to know the main character and his traits. I also like the story’s premise, although it did wander a little from time to time, and could be a little wordy when describing the context. Needs to improve: I wanted Sam to be less cruel and more intentionally clever in trying to get the upper hand. I thought this character could have been a little tighter and manipulative, rather than just being cruel. I think this may have added more intrigue to the story line and a little more ‘is he or isn’t he?’ to the readers thought process.
Overall though, I enjoyed the read and look forward to reading more from Mr Larsen.
