While I have been enjoying Joshua Williamson’s Superman run from the start, the comic has had recent tie-ins with crossover events such as House of Brainiac and Absolute Power, and thus the quality has somewhat dropped. Following the events of the latter storyline, in which the DC universe is going through a new status quo, Williamson along with Scott Snyder have plotted and wrote an overarching meta-story as part of the new publishing initiative, DC All In. That change in the status quo as well as the seeds of this grand storyline is very apparent in Williamson’s Superman.

The most notable change from first glance is that Lois Lane is now Superwoman, sharing the same powers as her husband Clark Kent, and whilst there is still a mystery on how she gained these powers and wonder if they work the same way as Superman, Lois embraces her new superhero persona. This is obviously not the first time Lois became Superwoman, which dates back to the 1940s, while comics like All-Star Superman put their own fun spin on that concept for a single issue. However, bringing Superwoman back, which allows Lois to rock an awesome suit as well as balancing her duties as the Daily Planet’s editor-in-chief creates a new dynamic for the comic.

We also get the return of Doomsday, the monstrous force of nature that took the life of Clark in 1992’s The Death of Superman. That storyline has always had a divisive reception, seeing it more as a publicity stunt to boost sales, whilst Doomsday himself is basically a Hulk-like monster that could have appeared in the comics of Marvel’s angriest superhero. Williamson acknowledges the impact of that storyline, through Lois and Clark looking back at what happened to them emotionally.

As much as Doomsday is still presented as a rampaging monster, which allows Dan Mora to create some of the brutal epic action that I’ve seen in a Superman comic, Williamson does something interesting with the character by introducing a future version of Doomsday, revealed as the Time Trapper. While there have been numerous versions of the Time Trapper throughout DC’s history, Williamson’s spin on this character not only allows to create a personal conflict for both Lois and Clark but also sets the stage for this current run to go down a darker path.

With multiple antagonists popping up throughout these five issues, each with their power sets including a brief appearance from Atomic Skull and his atomic pets, it is a great thing that Dan Mora draws the spectacle with ease. Being no stranger to drawing the Man of Steel, Mora makes his debut in DC’s flagship Superman title here as it is glorious with the incredible amount of detail he brings to not just the action, but even in the quieter character moments. The standout issue is #21, a standalone story that makes a strong case of why Lois and Clark are the best couple in comics as the two go on a date night that mixes romance and save-the-day activities. This issue alone gave me All-Star vibes, whilst giving interludes that play into the romantic angle and set up future story points such as a possible romance between Mercy Graves and the amnesiac Lex Luthor.

Concluding this volume is Superwoman Special #1, which serves as a breezy exploration of Lois’ newfound powers. While the issue may have pacing problems while the art between Edwin Galmon, Laura Braga and Nikola Cizmesija can be jarring if how it transitions from one style to another, this is a solid entry that makes good use of Lois first experiencing this new status quo, while serving as a celebration for her.

As part of DC’s All In initiative, Joshua Williamson’s Superman run delivers its best arc yet, making great use of the new status quo, as well as the ensemble cast that continues to go through interesting directions, especially during an ongoing narrative that could be going dark.

When freed from the shackles of events, tie-ins, and crossovers, Williamson really gets to shine as a writer. This is the most fun the series has been in a while, from the character interactions to the action driven plot. It touches on Lois' journey as a superhero, drawing interesting parallels with early days Clark. Doomsday adds a nice conflict into the mix, and it ends on a worthy cliffhanger (something this series definitely needed). If Williamson and Mora can deliver with the follow up, then Superman will definitely be back on the right track.

As a result of Absolute Power...Lois has Superpowers exactly as Superman...and gets in the middle of a Doomsday/Time Trapper problem

Plus a Superwoman Special....despite the battle it gives it all a thankfully lighter tone.

A good book with many things to come. The story is good and so is the artwork. I like the fact that Lois is seeing the other side of the heroics and she more than holds her own. A couple of funny moments and a couple of nice moments and lots of action.

Lois is Superwoman. Now she is about to have a trial by hellfire. Not only is one of Superman's greatest villains returning (in more ways than one), but there is also the threat of snow invasion. I also like the "Date" issue as a calm between storms. The last story explains how Lois got her powers.

As action-packed and epic as this book was from the looks of things come are going to be life-changing for the Supers. The book finishes with a huge variant cover gallery.

I am a sucker for Doomsday stories. The Death of Superman was one of the iconic comics events of my childhood. This book utilizes that nostalgia well, with a really creative use of the monster's mythos. Is it the best story? No, a lot of the hooks go unresolved, but it's still paced well. It's carried by one of the better Lois and Clark dynamics I've read, and some fantastic superhero art. The action all pops. A good read I lucked into at the library.

After the big battle against Amanda Waller's Amazos in Absolute Power, things are back to normal in Metropolis. Well, except for the fact that Lois now has Superman's powers and is helping him save the world? Feels like I missed something...

The world certainly needs saving. Rise of the Superwoman features not one but TWO Earth-shattering threats. Doomsday arrives (again, did I miss something?) and is eventually put in stasis, only for a conglomeration of forces previously defeated by Doomsday to arrive and demand his release. Predictably, another giant battle ensues.

This is a lot for one little volume. Too much, really. The battles are fun, but the stakes are raised so high, so quick, that it's hard to get invested. And what's all this Time Trapper stuff? So much of this volume feels like it's arriving from nowhere. Lois's "Superwoman" deal is finally explored at the end of the volume, at least. It's all setup for a future Earth-shattering confrontation, of course.

In the aftermath of Absolute Power, Lois regains her abilities as Superwoman, and while they might be limited, she will still do all she can to help.
Summaries/Highlights:
- Doomsday returns to cause havoc and it takes the whole Super-Family (and Parasite!) to put him unconscious.
- Two enemies arrive, both wanting different outcomes. 1) Time-Trapper, who turns out to be a future version of Doomsday, not only needs to die one more time to achieve God status, but also gives a dark view of the events to come to Superman and co. 2) An alien fleet shows up, called the Aftermath, led by Radiant, representing the worlds Doomsday has killed, and they demand he be turned over to them.
- Fights aplenty, and they almost lose to Radiant and the Aftermath, till Lex regains a memory and uses it to put them in a Brainiac bottle. Sounds like they'll have to deal with it later, but not now.
- Jimmy Olsen gets hurt trying to get a picture of Superwoman and Silver Banshee declares her a nemesis for hurting her boyrfriend.
- Power sets have been analyzed after Absolute Power's reversal, and everyone is counted for. So where did Lois get her powers? Looks like maybe Zod...

Looking forward to seeing what is next. Superman's main title is getting good again!
Recommend.

We come out of the event comics tie-ins with a return to the strong storytelling that made the first part of Joshua Williamson's run on Superman so iconic. Dan Mora's artwork is also gorgeous, really complimenting the story.

Somehow Lois has attained superpowers and I loved watching Lois and Clark revel in her new abilities. There was so much joy and excitement on both their faces in some panels. They get to have a really cute "date night" and the panel of them playing together with Krypto was adorable!

I also liked Lois talking things over with Superwoman (Lana) and Supergirl. Seeing the three of them hang out was cool. Williamson doesn't neglect Lois's career changes either, and I appreciated her complicated thoughts on being editor-in-chief, rather than a journalist.

I am a little tired of Doomsday showing up all the time, but there is a different twist to the character that is sort of interesting.

Also, the final reveal is low-key hilarious.

This arc was so much fun honestly like one of those comics you just love when you read them!

I love how it shows Lois getting the powers and Lois and Clark both being heroes and fighting villains and then the villains attacks and DOOMSDAY comes and all hell breaks loose and it goes from light to dark, tone change, panic for both and contingency plans being implemented and then the coming of the TIME TRAPPER and what his plans are and its so awesome seeing the mystery unfold!

The fight Superman and Doomsday have is epic honestly! Its brutal and

Its just epic and so well done, honestly I loved it! Lois and Clark and a story focused on her specially and her origin of the powers was awesome and gives you an interesting insight into the hero she becomes but omg whose power did she take after the events of Absolute Power? That next arc should be interesting! Also the fate of one of the characters.. wow thats dark!

Lets see what happens next!! But I loved this arc and issue.. easily one of the best DC comics runs atm!

It's another 'Absolute Power' clean up collection...

Lois had been helping the heroes stay one step ahead of Amanda Waller with the aid of a SuperCorp suit of armor. That suit glitched around the time of the final battle and when Lois woke she had Kryptonian powers. Mysteriously, they don't know where her powers came from...(one guess which Kryptonian they're talking about when all on Earth are accounted for...)

So now we have an average human, gifted Superman level powers that have no guarantee they'll stay. What does she do? GO SAVE THE WORLD! She joins the Superman Family (even extended to Lana and Steel) in keeping Metropolis safe.

The biggest bad returns, however. Somehow, there's a Doomsday free on Earth again. No longer locked away in Hell, it's on another rampage. To make matters worse, Time Trapper shows up and reveals himself to be a future version of Doomsday(?) He wants them to do another 'reset' of Doomsday. This next death, in theory, would nudge the creature to deity levels. (JUST what the world needs...Godlike Doomsday)

.......at least we have SuperCorp to save us? This new version of LexCorp can't be BAD, right? Lex PROMISED. He did what, now? X-El? Oh, damn. We're screwed.
=======
Bonus: Bonus points for you if you can pronounce Siobhan correctly
Bonus Bonus: One step closer to a League of Darkseid crossover? Absolute(ly)!

Superman goes All In as the events of Absolute Power grant Lois superpowers! Just in time too, because the Time Trapper is on the loose, and if that wasn't bad enough, so is Doomsday. Great timing, gang.

Williamson's Superman run continues strong here. The dynamic between Lois and Clark is a highlight, and the reasoning behind Time Trapper's attack (and the subsequent Doomsday stuff) is suitably comics-bonkers.

Oh, and did I mention that all five issues of the main series are drawn by Dan Mora? Because they are, and you should know by now that that only means good things. The Superwoman Special is split between Laura Braga, Nikola Cizmesija, and Edwin Galmon, so it's not quite as easy on the eyes, but they're not talent to sniff at either.

Some more great stuff, as per usual.

I’m SO happy we’re back on track after House of Brainiac and Absolute Power completely derailed what had been a pretty great Superman run. This is the best book since Supercorp! Love the dynamic between Clark and Lois in this one. Somehow Joshua Williamson managed to fix all the problems introduced by Absolute Power, add new elements like time traveling Doomsday and a powerless General Zod, and write in some awesome moments like a Superman/Superwoman date on another planet and a great flashback to when Lois revealed her powers to Superman. All this while writing everyone to be perfectly in-character. Just incredible that he made this book work THIS well considering how bad those events were.

I really enjoyed this one. It was fun seeing Lois and Clark be a literal power couple. It continues to prove that you can have happily married couples in comics, take notes Marvel.

Williamson was smart to establish right out the gate that Lois' powers will be temporary, letting the reader just enjoy the ride with no strings attached. This could have easily been another situation like in recent years where a supporting character gets the titular hero's powers "for good" and replaces them, which is as played out now as the multiverse and dystopian alternate futures.

This was also the first time that Dan Mora's art really clicked for me. I really like his take on Doomsday.

This book has it all! Dan Mora's art is perfect for a Superman story. It's gorgeous and elevates the tale in every way. The character voices are spot on. Adding Lois as a powered member of the Super family is so cool and so fun. The action is incredible, the stakes are breathtaking and there's so many exciting twists. On top of that, there's a sense of wonder. You see Lois and Clark on a date night visiting dinosaurs! DINOSAURS!

I love this series and can't wait for volume 5, especially with the reveal of the origin of Lois' powers.

Super fun book. Nice to see Lois get featured, front and center. I enjoy how she admits to embracing the freedom and adventure inherent in her powers, and it's fun to see her juggling the secret identity for a little while. Doomsday, in general, feels a bit played out, but putting Lois in that situation against the monster that killed her husband, added some freshness, and I'm interested in the Doomsday-as-Time-Trapper angle. Not as enthused about the "Superman is eternal" thing. Always found it a bit weird myself, but we'll see where Williamson goes with it.

A nice return to form after the third volume just collected larger event tie-in issues. I was skeptical about the whole "Lois as Superwoman" thing in the main continuity, especially since the current Super-Family is already SO large. But this is a really fun story, and the inherent ticking clock on Lois' powers not only makes it easier to accept, but actually makes it that more intriguing, as well. And the set-up for what is to come, regarding how she GOT her powers, is a very exciting cliffhanger.

Lot o setup here but it’s Dan mora art so it’s all awesome!! This brings forward a lot of my difficulty in rating comics, especially without half stars. Very tempting to give a Superman doomsday fight drawn by mora a 4 star not to mention the awesome new superwoman costume and time trapper! So many moments where I was like damnnnn that’s so awesome but very little in the way of resolution which to be fair won’t be the goal of this particular volume. So this 3 star may change to a 4 but it’s decided that I definitely need a more formalized rating system for these

Lois being Superwoman is not high on my list of favorite Superman troupes. Lex Luthor trying to be a good guy is not high on my list of favorite Superman troupes.

But neither is using Doomsday in anything beyond his initial appearance, but I didn't hate it here. But I feel detached from this run. Maybe Williamson isn't doing the best job hiding behind the curtain because it all feels very planned and calculated, in a way that feels like we're going through an outline of a story. But that seems a little too heady for me so maybe it's all fine.

If you have Dan Mora in your book, you automatically start with 5 stars. What you do from there won’t be the artist’s fault, and Joshua Williamson took great advantage of this. They drop us in a colorful, action-packed, and fun arc with Lois as the partner we love to see. Doomsday is a villain that might feel one-dimensional at times, but Joshua managed to add more character to him. I just had a blast reading this.

3-3.5. Pretty good. I picked this up just for Dan Mora’s art. And I thought Jamal Campbell was killing it at Superman art. This dude is crushing it and I think Mora is becoming my new favorite.
Besides the art stealing the show, this was just fun to read. Lois has really grown on me the longer I read Superman and I wasn’t sure how I’d like her having superpowers. Honestly, Williamson did it in a clever way and I’m impressed that he pulled it off.

In the aftermath of Absolute Power, Lois has gained the same powers as Superman! What! This is really good, especially with Dan Mora drawing all of the regular issues. There's some other crazy revelations here, like who the Time Trapper is now. And some good setup for where Lois's powers really came from.

I'm not a huge fan of giving super hero girlfriends super powers. It changes the core of the character too much.

Buy I'm also not against in if done well.

I'm enjoying these stories. Nice Lex is fun, too.
