Mike Bragg is a man you can trust. He'll fix your car up right. He might even drive it home himself, just to make sure it's running exactly the way he thinks it should before you get it back. But when he accidentally runs over a small brown rabbit on his way home from work one day, Mike chalks up the incident as just another insignificant rodent casualty.
"Too many of them hoppers anyway,” he reasons. And maybe he's right, because that very afternoon dozens of them begin to crowd outside the door of Mike's humble abode.
Watching. Waiting.
Plotting?
HOPPERS is a short tale of dark comic horror from the mind of Isaac Thorne, a nice man who simply wants to provide you with a few fun frights. Fast-paced and packed with edge-of-your-seat moments, HOPPERS is a story that might make you wary about what darts out in front of your speeding car on a given afternoon. Better to put that smart phone down and keep your eyes on the road than try to survive the vengeful roadkill vendetta of the HOPPERS.
A short story that I read over breakfast and coffee; an entertaining start to my Saturday. As a matter of fact, I think I need to track down more horror/comedies just for that purpose. In Hoppers, for every gory or gruesome detail, there’s an intentionally corny yet funny old saying or exclamation. I’ve memorized a few to use in real life (old sayings,...not gruesome details 😇)
This is a spectacularly hilarious 25 page story. Bunny and human carnage. Little fluffertons are mangled...but what if...
I purchase Hoppers a while back and this time I was looking for something short and different between my longer reads. I LOVE that I chose this and hate that I hadn’t read it before.
A lot happens quickly, 25 pages means this story MOVES. It’s creepy and gory and I adore the alternative cursing of the MC. It’s right up my alley and put me in mind of Monty Python a bit.
I’m going to go find more Isaac Thorne to read. Freaking hilarious and well-written. Win win for me.
No spoilers - I'm not some sort of a bunny-spoiler - so not too much detail. This is a lot of fun. A scary take on our buck-toothed buddies. I really enjoyed it.
Thorne's Hoppers is a fun and crazy tale of revenge, exacted by beings you would never expect to do so. With literal non-stop action, Hoppers just might put you off the idea of the Easter Bunny this spring.
Imagine Gremlins but bunnies - but not on holiday - they're thirsting for revenge.
Mike Bragg is Mr. Fix-it when it comes to vehicle problems and while test driving a Saturn he hits a bump in the road. Except it isn't a bump. It's unfortunately a little rabbit.
He goes home thinking nothing of it. As night falls, a 'battalion of bunnies' pay ol' Mikey a visit.
I enjoyed Mike’s inventive curses, and bunnies as an antagonist is interesting. Unfortunately, this horror comedy didn’t appeal to my sense of humor. It’s well written, but humor is subjective and it didn’t work for me. If you love seeing Bugs Bunny get the better of Elmer Fudd, you’ll probably like this story.
