Their home has been destroyed, their king and one of the Prophets have sided with the Void. Furthermore, the Prophet of the Dead has been captured by the ern, and the other Prophets are scattered across the land. Only four remain – the swordsman Ayrim, the Prophet Linspan, the archer Dariel, and the blind Priest Rignslin.
The entirety of the Aeresan army behind them and the ern army ahead of them, the four embark on a mad race to the Tower in a desperate search for allies to oppose the Nothing. But with one of the Prophets captured, they know that uniting the six powers against the Void is growing increasingly unlikely. Their only hope that some sort of answer can be found amongst the home of the Wizards.
The Eighth Power continues as four men stand united against Vid and his vast army of dark followers.
Ayrim and the other survivors of Saparen are on the run after a daring escape, with an enemy army all around them and another one waiting in their path. Some clever disguises and their nerve are all they have to see them through.
The world-building is thorough and deep. Again, there are some swapped-out words (passed-past, that sort of thing) and random paragraph breaks throughout. There are also a few places where entire sentences are messed up, for example:
"The stew beside him was cold, but he had eaten most of it. an activity than anything. The wine at the Temple was quite good. wine always came from Flarans."
And then later in the chapter (22):
"Dariel Sterwet had been poisoned. Still he chewed on a loaf of bread, more as Falnor himself had made it, and the best"
At a guess, some deletions found their way back into the ms, or a cut-and-paste went wrong. It seems clear that the final sentence in the second quote should end with the last partial sentence in the first one. This happens several times throughout, usually (unfortunately) during an exciting part. Still, good story. Four stars and a wagging finger for the errors.
