When duty meets desire, which will prevail?

Willow Duskril is a determined scout, hunting down information to rise through the ranks of the secretive Night Ravens. Her latest mission, tracking down a hidden informant, is the chance she’s been waiting for. But success won’t come easily, and Willow will need every skill she’s trained in.

Only the strongest survive in the fae realm of Idrix, where bargains and trickery ensnare those brave enough to roam its lands, and Willow is no stranger to its treachery.

When a flirtatious stranger wanders into her camp with a bargain of his own, she is ready to attack first and ask questions later. With his effortless charm and powerful fire magic, Silas embodies everything Willow distrusts. But with her mission on the line and no one else to turn to, Willow has no choice but to join forces with him, despite her past experiences.

But will trusting Silas be her making, or her undoing?

I received an ARC of this book from the lovely author, and here is my honest review. This book is about the Night Raven Scout Willow. She is an independent, blunt and resourceful Fae who lost everything to the dark curse that took her land over a century ago. On one of her missions, she comes across Silas. With secrets of his own, Silas is keen to join and follow Willow (much to her dismay). Let’s just say Silas is the sunshine to Willows grumpy. He is naive, confident and charming. As they journey together, their tentative friendship slowly grows to more. With tons of banter and some adventure thrown in, I enjoyed this book and would continue with the next in the series. I did find some parts of the writing were a little clumsy and lacking development. The beginning of the book I found quite slow, but I’m happy I carried through with it. The characters I thought were well written and the spicy was spicing.

I really wanted to like this more. The world was intriguing with the hierarchy of Fae powers or no powers. Willow was on a mission for the Night Ravens to get recon about a potential artefact but it turned into a side quest when she meets Silas. I didn't have a problem with that but the story dragged with them walking, sitting at a fire, eating, sleeping, resisting each other, rinse and repeat. The plot could have almost been none existent. I made it to 37% and then skimmed the rest. This is open door explicit but the chemistry between these two was dry. Willow was also the type of character that didn't trust in anyone including herself but then in the 3rd act, grew a spine and some level of power after certain things were revealed. I liked Silas enough but I won't be reading the 2nd book. I just don't feel like there's any story left to keep my attention.

The Archer and The Flame - available Nov 28 on KU - a debut novel by @marievioletauthor
is a romantasy adventure with elemental magic, featuring a reverse grumpy sunshine where he's full of 🌞 unless/until her safety is at stake, then he will burn the world down.

📖 I enjoyed the plot a lot. I found it interesting and engaging with some twists and turns and a revelation I didn't foresee. The adventure quest was fun with richly described (and beautiful) scenery. Marie builds tension up quite nicely and loops everything around and back in, giving the reader a beautiful literary package to unwrap.

✍️🏼 I enjoyed the writing style and found it easy to breeze right through.

"I'm debating what would shut you up the quickest, strangling you or lodging an arrow in your heart."

"I love when you flirt with me."

I especially loved their banter.

⏳️ I enjoyed the faster pace, it really keeps things feeling tense.

🗺 The world is built up well, and in a way that isn't overwhelming. I appreciate the gradual way the author gives you the information. To me that feels natural and isn't jarring like info dumping can feel.

🔮 The magic system is well developed and described, with a clear cost.

👥 The characters are well developed with interesting (albeit tragic) backstories. Character focused readers will enjoy these characters.

💞 I enjoyed the romance overall. The progression from reluctant allies to more was quicker than my preference. Not to say it was insta-it wasn't, it just wasn't as slow of a burn as I prefer. 😄

🌶 The spicy tension build up was quite nice, and you don't get into full 🌶 action until the last +/- 25%. I feel that timing and placement fits the story perfectly.

📝 There were a few areas I would've appreciated more details, a more thorough enrichment and immersion. The plot felt rushed in some places to me. I also feel like the story could've been enriched by including the MMCs POV.

The story is quite good as is, great even. These are the things that would've made it a 5 star (vs 4) for me.

📚 If you enjoyed: Reign of Cinders and Glass (Lindsey Hall), Bewitched (Laura Thalassa), The Dagger and The Flame (Catherine Doyle), or Queen of Roses (Briar Boleyn) then I think you would enjoy this.

Thank you to @marievioletauthor for this eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

All in all a great read!  And the ending was so cute!! I can't wait for the next book in the Whispers Of The Night Ravens Duology!

✨The Archer and the Flame✨

Ok, ok, ok, I LOVED this read. Not too long; sweet and spicy; and the epitome of friends to lovers and a golden retriever MMC. This is definitely a go to, make me happy and swoony read I’ll always keep on my shelf.

In TAATF, we follow the first person POV of Willow, a scout for the elusive Night Ravens. It is her duty to retrieve information and stay invisible. But when a charming and hilariously out of place male happens across her path in the forest, Willow finds herself helping the fellow simply survive the night. As she goes rogue, Willow coincidentally meets up with Silas again, each saving each others life until they decide traveling together is better and putting Willow’s trust issues to the test.

Silas is optimistic, cunning, hilarious, and loyal. His award winning personality brings so many smiles and uncovering his past makes your heart flutter in amazement at how he can elicit such joy in heartache. Willow is compassionate, protective, and hopeful but hurt. Together, they each have a battle to face, but can facing it with a partner lead to better success?

TAATF is such a precious story. I devoured it in a day and enjoyed every minute. It’s well paced, lower stakes, and full of the most delightful banter. This reluctant allis to friends to lovers was REAL for those tropes and a favorite of mine.

Tropes you may find are friends to lovers, forced proximity, hidden identities, open ending, elemental magic, banter, “breathe”, slow burn to medium spice, he saves her/she saves him, one bed, fae, and grumpy x sunshine.

I am so thankful for this gifted arc and I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK TWO.

Rating 3 for this book, but I’m also very conscious that this is the first book of a series, and that rating could go up for the whole series based on the rest of the storyline when the next books are released!
I really liked the magic system that’s beginning to be laid out of this world… solely fae but not everyone has “powers”, although there’s also enough intrigue around the magic that I’m excited to see where that could go and if it could change.
I really liked both the FMC and MMC characters separately, and enjoyed the MMC golden retriever, naivety and optimistic vibes… I did feel a little like their relationships timeline was off in the build up, and would have liked a bit more depth around that.
However, It was a fun read and I will be picking up book 2 because I’m intrigued to see where the storyline is going!

In this charming debut, Marie crafts a sweet and engaging story with relatable characters, a lot of humor, and just the right amount of emotional depth. A fast paced but easy to follow story, with well rounded word building. The Archer and the Flame is a highly enjoyable read for fans of fantasy and romance, particularly those who appreciate friends/enemies to lovers or grumpy x sunshine driven narratives. Marie Violet's debut is an excellent addition to the genre and I can't wait for the next installment!

So grateful to have received an ARC copy of The Archer & the Flame. I had a lot of fun reading this book. The sunshine MMC working his way into the heart of the grumpy FMC. I loved it! Of course don’t let the sunshine personality fool you, the MMC Silas most definitely gave off touch her and die vibes! Absolutely worth the read! A fun romantasy with twists and turns to keep you guessing. I can’t wait for the next book! So much more to find out about the fate of Idrix.

Ahh, I just love a good enemies/friends to lovers story! It did start out a little slow for me, but after a certain MMC entered the scene, it definitely did pick up. 🤩
I loved the world building, magical elements, characters, slow burn, plot twists and the spice. 😍🔥

This was such a quick easy fast pace read for me. You get introduced to the FMC & MMC so soon in the book & it just flows so well. I fell in love with Silas! He was the golden retriever but he had a mouth on him🤭

I loved the connection between them both..they came together so well & the story was easy to follow. We had some tense moments where on the outside of these characters things are happening a long the way on their passage/quest which added the extra plot & details allowing the story to come together and give you that extra ‘but what happens next?’ vibe.

The spice was dam spicy. I loved it. I think him being the golden retriever but also managing to be this hot spice MMC was the perfect combo and there was just enough in here for me.

Our FMC was also easy to love. She was fun & wild but also stood her ground. Learning about her past was heartbreaking.

I loved how it ended! It sets us up for more of their story & the romance connection continues to grow.

It’s no major cliffhanger & this book didn’t really keep me on the edge of my seat vibes & I would say don’t expect anything huge to happen but like I said, it’s a cute easy fast pace read & I think this would be a perfect read for beginners into the fantasy world.

I’m excited to see where this story goes!

If you ever feel like your life is lacking some sunshine, look no further–Silas, the MMC from Marie Violet's The Archer and The Flame, Book 1 in her Whispers of the Night Ravens, is here!

Silas is the epitome of a golden retriever MC; he always knows what to do, say, and how to say it. He brightens the day with his quips and finds light in dire situations. He is just what Willow, the FMC, needed in her life: someone to truly see, understand, and love her unconditionally. She needed him, but he also needed her. Needed her to see the true him and accept all the good and the bad.

Silas' eyes found mine and I was struck by the certainty reflected in them. "I found what I needed all along. Someone who would fight for me."

If there is a word to describe The Archer and The Flame, it would be "precious". Precious in the sense of two characters finding home in one another, even when everything is against them. Precious in the sense of love, loyalty, and devotion oozing from the pages. Precious in the sense of seeing someone's inner walls crumbling down and making room for someone new. Precious in the sense of witnessing each character's healing journey.

The Archer and The Flame is set to be released on November 28th. Gift yourself a story like this; you won't regret it! Now, all that is left to do is patiently wait for the sequel and hope that I will continue to be a member of Marie's ARC team.

ARC Read : The Archer & The Flame || Marie Violet 💘✨❤️‍🔥

I really enjoyed this book and would like to congratulate the author on their debut novel! 📚✨

I didn’t know what to expect from this book but I thoroughly engaged with the story at a gentle level. The whole setting was beautifully mapped out. The unique magic system was intriguing and well crafted. The characters had brilliantly executed banter throughout the book and with the almost gooey (Grumpy X Sunshine) love story that developed throughout it really revealed the talent of Marie Violet as an exquisite writer.

I did find that a lot of the plot was rushed and could’ve been a bit more detailed. The characters development was also quite quick paced and it did confuse me at times how so suddenly the MMC and FMC were so inevitably in love with each other. I would’ve enjoyed more of a slow burn and maybe having a MMC POV would’ve benefited the storyline as well.

I will definitely be reading the next book in the duet once it is released and am aware this is the author’s debut novel so it will definitely have potential to grow into an all encompassing second book.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to receive this book as an ARC Read - I definitely loved reading it and can’t wait to see where the story goes next! ❤️‍🔥

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this amazing debut novel, thank you Marie!! 🫶🏻

I loved this read, it is a fantasy novel based around fae but it was so light hearted & super fast paced to read - this was exactly what I needed to start the month.

The world building was easy to follow and you meet the FMC & MMC really early on following their story - it was giving opposites attract, reverse grumpy x sunshine, he falls first, golden retriever mmc and there was so much banter between them:-

“I’m debating what would shut you up the quickest, strangling you or lodging an arrow in your heart.”
“I love it when you flirt with me.”

- I’m not always convinced on a golden retriever mmc but this man had the balance🤌🏻🌶️

I loved the way this book ended leaving it open for the story to continue, overall in this book not too much happened - you follow our characters on a quest and get to know more about them and what is going on around them, it was a really effective build up for the second book- I’m excited to see where we go next with Willow & Silas!!

I Throughly enjoyed this book, fast-paced and easy to follow, and has you emotionally invested.

I got through this fairly quickly, and I am a slow reader.

This book follows the Fmc willow, she has dedicated her life to the night ravens, going on quests to gather information.
You also get her story, which is tragic 😥 She has been through so much.

'Even the strong need a break sometimes'

Then along comes Mmc silas, he is a ray of sunshine with a flirty personality, He ends up joining her on this quest ,You slowly start to uncover bits about his life too.

I loved the romance, plot, world building, and spice in this book. It ended beautifully.

Normally these types of books don't have much plot but i was not disappointed, the adventure, the wittiness of both characters. 👌👌

Thank you so much Marie for allowing me to read your book!

This book follows Willow, who is a scout working for a secret order. On her mission she meets Silas, who isn’t exactly who he seems but is everything she needs.

This book has quests and a curse that is stealing magic from the land. There are some people blessed with magic and others who aren’t. The MMC is definitely a golden retriever and I really liked him!

There were some stretches of the book that were less exciting and others that were quite interesting. At certain times the writing seemed a bit abrupt, switching topics at what seemed like strange times.

Overall a decent read and the ending certainly allows the opportunity for an interesting book 2!

I have to start off by saying I loved the banter between Silas and Willow. I enjoy a good laugh when I'm reading and I found myself doing so quite a bit. This story made me smirk, gasp, blush and sigh. I also love a good adventure - following Willow and Silas on theirs was a roller coaster and full of action. You'll get your fill of magic, romance, spice, betrayal, secrets and a journey that leads to so much more. I looked forward to picking this book back up every time I needed to put it down. Trust me, if you're a fantasy lover, The Archer and the Flame will not disappoint. In fact, it will make you impatient for the next book in the series.

Smirking from (pointy) ear to ear! This book has great banter, fast paced adventure & is a fun read - perfect if you’re a fantasy beginner who likes elemental powers, fae bargains & the grumpy X sunshine trope.

The characters are very lovable with clear goals, determination and their own skillsets. Great relationship development - we even get some spice in the end, and oh my that was H O T ❤️‍🔥

It’s a well rounded story that leaves an opening for the next adventure which I’ll be sure to add to my TBR.

Willow is a scout on a mission, a serious one with greater implications than the onlooker would know. Silas is a mysterious man who appeared and won’t go away. Fate seems to have drawn them together but why, and to what end? Will they work together, betray each other, or be each other’s undoing?

This was my first read in the world of fae and I enjoyed it! There was magic, artifacts, binding agreements, royalty, secrets, and betrayal. A quest for information led to an unlikely partnership between the two main characters and I really enjoyed their opposites attract style. They shared a lot of background unexpectedly and created balance to make their romance sweet and spicy!

I enjoyed the world building and how it wasn’t too complex but also still gave a clear idea of what was there, plus there was a great map. I enjoyed how the characters slowly opened up to each other and couldn’t deny their feelings, but bargains and fear held them back because let’s be honest isn’t that how life actually goes?! Their connection and commitments complicated things but at the same time some things just can’t be avoided, both good and bad.

With a second book coming out I have no idea how she’ll do it, there’s so much to pack in it to Wil

There were some exciting scenes of not just adventure but fighting, and tensions of all kinds happening. There was a short section things felt rushed but I wanted to linger in the moments and it was in the midst of chaos, so I can’t knock the execution of it.

It’s the first in a duology. She has so much to pack in for Willow, Silas, the Night Ravens, the curse, and also Eirel. I have no idea how she’ll do it but think the follow-up will be equally great! I give it 4.5 stars but round to 5.

Thank you to the author for the ARC opportunity!

Another series that I will continue following! This one caught me by surprise as generally cinnamon roll MMCs are not always my go to in books (as those who follow my account I know well enough). I like my shadow daddies, OK!? Silas is the definition of a lost puppy 🐕 Well the loyal pup had me swooning ~

I vibed with Willow. As a self-proclaimed hermit, I really enjoy my personal space, working solo, and trust isn't easily built. Reading this book and watching her hardened (with good reason) exterior crack, realizing she can't do everything herself is something I too struggle with at times.

I really loved that this world followed some well known and easily forgotten Fae lore. Fae cannot lie, but will twist their words and omit truths to hide their intentions. So, even with that knowledge Willow does her best to educate her naïve companion that not everyone is worth the trust she is reluctantly starting to give. I loved seeing their relationship develop into more than reluctant allies(at least on Willow's end, Silas, of course, was all to happy to tag along for the ride!).

I can't wait to see what comes next!

A grumpy FMC and sunny MMC, i liked this reverse trope very much. The story is an easy to read fantasy where enough happens to have kept me interessted.

The book is set in Idrix, a realm whith solely fae but with the difference that some have magic and some don't. Idrix used to have magic throughout the land but a long a go war cursed the land and now magic is dissapearing.
Willow is a scout for the Night Ravens, a group devoted to protect Idrix in secrecy by gathering information not easily found. The book doesn't specify what is being done with the information untill the last part of the book.

On one of Willow's missions she meets Silas, a nobleman looking for adventure. She doesn't trust him but reluctantly lets him join her on her travels because they need eachother in order to succeed on their quests. Silas has run away from home and learns new things about Idrix and the power the nobility have over the common fae. Willow is trying to find a cure for a new friend while also gathering information about the source of the illness. She teaches Silas how to survive without the comforts he is used to and he helps her with his magical ability of controlling fire. Eventually Willow lets her guard down and they become friends but develop into something more.

I liked the story very much, the banter between the main characters made them very loveable and i especially liked the reverse grumpy sunshine trope. You get to know more about their backstory and the background of Idrix. It's an easy to understand worldbuilding which lends itself for readers that are new to the fantasy genre.
There are spicy scènes but they aren't the main focus of the relationship between Willow and Silas. Their story evolves from opposites and distrust to friendship, mutual respect and trust as a base for their eventual lovestory. I loved the banter between them and the way they interacted. They also support eachother in the way they dealt with their own demons from the past but also lift eachother up when needed.
The ending isn't a cliffhanger which i was glad about but it was open enough to want to know what the second book has in store for Willow and Silas.
For me a 3,5 ⭐️ rating.

First and foremost, I am ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY that this is Marie Violet’s DEBUT novel! I was so impressed by the writing style, the world building for this realm with its magic hierarchy, and the character depth and complexity. I was immersed into the storyline from the get-go and did NOT want to stop reading. I have read almost 300 books this year, and this is hands down my favorite slow burn romance that I have read.

Willow is a determined scout for the illusive Night Ravens–a secret society that thrives on collecting and utilizing information to protect the fae realm they call home: Idrix. Known for being stubborn to a fault, Willow will stop at nothing to prove her worth and rise in the ranks of the Night Ravens. Her latest mission is to track down a hidden informant, and it’s the chance she’s been waiting for to show she’s ready for more responsibility. But, the path to success won’t come easily, and Willow will have to use all her skills she’s been trained in, while also trusting her gut on the spot.

In Idrix, where only the strongest fae survive, magically-binding bargains can ensnare even the most careful of individuals. Trickery and treachery are at every turn for those brave enough to roam Idrix’s lands, and Willow is well-versed in the cruelty this realm has to offer. As a result, Willow is guarded, uninviting, and trusts no one.

When an incredibly handsome and flirtatious stranger stumbles into Willow’s camp with a bargain of his own, Willow is on the defense; ready to attack with her harsh words and trusty arrows first, and ask questions later. But, Silas isn’t easily swayed and is fascinated by the woman he has met in the woods. With his undeniable charm and rare and powerful fire magic, Silas is the epitome of what Willow distrusts and she sends him on his way after assisting him for one night.

With her mission in jeopardy, Willow realizes she needs help and it’s a good thing Silas is as persistent as he is cheery. With no one else to turn to, Willow decides to join forces with the out of place male who continues to cross her path, trusting him to help her in finding the information she seeks.

As they journey to unfamiliar territory and face immense dangers, the carefully crafted walls both Silas and Willow have guarding their traumatic pasts and broken hearts start to crumble. The friendship that blossoms is heartwarming and the way in which they each risk it all to save one another is endearing. When the lines between friendship and desire start to blur, impossible decisions for the future have to be made.

Will trusting one another be their salvation, or their downfall?

ARC Review of The Archer & The Flame

Genre: Adult Fantasy Romance

Tropes: Slow-burn romance, forbidden love, reluctant allies, hidden identities, ancient curses, found family

Marie Violet’s The Archer & The Flame launches readers into the lushly built, magical world of Idrix, where ancient curses lurk beneath politics, and even the strongest hearts are tested. At the center of this richly woven tale is Willow, a fierce scout for the Night Ravens—a secretive organization protecting Idrix from unseen threats. With a past full of shadows and loyalty bound to duty, Willow lives by strict rules until she meets Silas, a dashing and Fire-Blessed noble whose humor and charm quickly melt her guarded demeanor.

Sent on a mission to Valtarra to investigate rumors of a deadly curse, Willow’s encounters with Silas shift from wary alliance to something far deeper. Silas, unaccustomed to the realities of survival in the wilderness, is at first a hindrance but quickly shows surprising strength and loyalty, softening Willow’s rigid heart. Together, they face harrowing dangers, uncover hidden betrayals, and resist—only so much—their intensifying attraction.

The romance between Willow and Silas is undeniably a slow burn, but the payoff is well worth it. Their relationship intensifies over shared threats and vulnerable moments, culminating in scenes that are both passionate and vividly detailed. The spice level is genuine and "open door," with multiple intimate scenes that underscore the depth of their connection and push beyond mere hints, giving readers just the right balance of tenderness and heat. The romance is set against a high-stakes plot that unfolds with increasing complexity, as Willow’s sense of loyalty to the Night Ravens is challenged by her growing affection for Silas, a man bound to her by more than just chance encounters.

Willow is a multifaceted heroine—resilient, sharp, and deeply independent. Her chemistry with Silas is both fiery and heartfelt, creating a captivating dynamic where she learns to balance duty with desire. Silas, while noble and initially naive to Willow’s world, reveals layers of loyalty and tenacity that make him her equal.

Themes of trust, self-discovery, and forbidden love pulse through the book, making it not just a romance but an emotional journey.

If you’re drawn to worlds where romance and danger entwine, and where complex characters must confront both inner and outer demons, then The Archer & The Flame will captivate you from start to finish.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the author, and here is my honest review.

‘The Archer and the Flame’ is the story of Willow, a fae who works as a scout for a secret organisation called the Night Ravens that aims to protect the land of Idrix from those who would seek to harm it. On one of her missions, Willow comes across a young girl who has clearly been cursed by some unknown magic, and decides to investigate further in an attempt to save the girl’s life. On her travels, she meets and subsequently joins forces with a bubbly and powerful male called Silas, who she quickly realises is of noble descent. What unfolds next is the love story of Willow and Silas, set against the backdrop of their high-stakes mission: that of finding a cure for the young girl and uncovering the real reason behind her strange ailment.

‘The Archer and the Flame’ is the author’s debut novel, and is framed as the first in a series.

In summary, ‘The Archer and the Flame’ has all of my favourite elements - a fun fantasy world, unique magic system, and a heavy helping of romance - but it lacks some of the polish that a more established author might be able to bring to the table. On occasions, the pacing feels off, and at certain times I struggled to understand the reasons why a character was acting in a certain way. For example, there are moments when Willow is blinded by anger at a perceived ‘betrayal’ committed by Silas or by the leader of the Night Ravens - but I couldn’t quite grasp why the so-called ‘betrayals’ actually warranted such a response. This isn’t helped when Willow changes her mind a few pages later, and decides that her anger is unfounded (I’m talking mainly about the incident with Silas, here).

On the whole, I did enjoy the romance, which was fun and largely well-written. My only request would have been to allow the relationship between Willow and Silas to play out a little more slowly. Those two go from 0-100 pretty damn quickly. However, it’s a relatively short book, so maybe this was a necessity if the author needed to get them into ‘I want to be by your side for the rest of my eternal life’ territory by the end of the book.

In summary, I found ‘The Archer and the Flame’ to be inherently readable, with plenty of positive elements. However, I’m hopeful that, as the series progresses, the author will be able to add a bit of polish that’s needed in order to really elevate the narrative.

Willow Duskril is recruited by Night Ravens, the underground secretive hunting information organization as a scout. She didn’t expect her mission would change her. Ah, not only her, but the entire realm as well. She becomes the key to unlocking the realm's secrets and trickery.
Fantasy - Robin Hood adventure style. That is the vibe I got when I read Willow’s story. Willow was bullied, lost everything, broken, but she is strategic, adventurous and has a pure heart. Her character’s development and growth are shown in each chapter. It is like her heart started to come to pieces until the pieces become whole. As for Silas, from a young, naughty, foolish boy, he has become a kind, warm-hearted and responsible person, also being shown at the same time as Willow, which makes the story become intimate and personal. About the Willow - Silas interaction, I feel it is grown naturally. I mean when each character develops and experiences growth, their interactions become growing too. Their relationship is not a fairytale one, but it feels like actual real life-based, which warms your heart when you read it.
The story's pace is in the middle, not too fast or not too slow. From what I read, I feel the world building is using a classic medieval style and not too heavy. It is a nice introduction to world building. Also, there are so many events happening in the story and I love that there is a map to help navigate where the event is happening. Surprisingly, the map is very detailed and also has color.
Conflicts that happen in the story feel like in the realistic world, and it feels natural, and they cause deep tension in the story. Yes, there are a few political elements and personal interests too, but don’t worry, the story can still be enjoyable! In fact, it is more fun because I will make the reader think hard about whom the villain is... or villains?
The magic system is unique, but on the ARC version that I received, I was a little bit confused at first because there’s no clear explanation about it. Even though I understand the story, I am still confused about the connection between the elements and the magical items or any magical creatures with magic. Maybe it is because the author is still hiding it in her sleeves, and it is not the time to unlock the magic. Because of this, I’m very curious and can’t wait to release my arrow for the second book!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m pretty sure I gave the Cheshire Cat a run for its money, grinning my way through this book. Honestly, what a delightful read! The love story may take centre stage, but it’s also laced with the fantasy elements we crave. While the action isn’t as heavy-handed, it keeps us on our toes in more subtle, unexpected ways.

The world-building is gentle yet vivid enough to ground the characters in a tangible setting. The magic system introduces the ‘Blessed’—those with significant magical abilities—and those with lesser magic. This segregation of power weaves into the story’s politics and social inequalities, which inevitably breeds the conflict and action scenes which are dotted throughout.

At its heart, this is a tale of two lost souls. One wears aggression as armor, the other wields charm like a shield, but both are searching for something they’ve yet to find. Their journey becomes more than the mission; it’s about self-discovery and realizing that you can’t outrun your problems. The grumpy x sunshine trope shines here, with witty banter and a dynamic that’s impossible not to adore.

Willow, our FMC, might take a little getting used to, but beneath the attitude, she’s loyal, caring, and driven. Her protective streak—especially those “I have to save him” vibes—is endearing. She’s learned vital survival skills from her past and her scout role, which makes her street smart, a hunter and the ability to hold her own.

Silas, our MMC, is the perfect blend of sweet, funny best friend and fiery, strong protector. His charm is so infectious your cheeks will hurt from smiling. I found myself eagerly anticipating every moment he was on the page as his layers were revealed.

Not going to lie, for a big portion of the book, I completely forgot there was even a quest! I was so caught up in Willow and Silas’s cuteness and their undeniable chemistry that I was enraptured. They complement each other perfectly, becoming beacons of light in each other’s darkness.

That being said, the plot twists have me desperate to know what will happen next!!

If you love romance woven with fantasy, this is an absolute must-read that has me eager for book 2!!
