OMG!!! What an absolutely amazing book 2!!! I absolutely LOVE this story... I am completely captured by the world and the characters.... THE TENSION?!?!?! The Spice *wink wink*... my emotions were all over the place... this book was like a rollercoaster ride the whole time.... AND THE END??!?!?! OMG I wasn't expecting that... I also absolutely LOVE Spanish culture within these stories, especially if you're looking to diversify your bookshelf. I Absolutely recommend this book. This story is packed full of... love, hate, anger, betrayal, growth, and action. I need to know where Val and the rest will end up next!
I really enjoyed this book which is #2 in the series. I think it’s full of drama, tension, mystery, unexpected events, and (hopefully to-be-answered) questions. As usual with Seymour’s books, I loved the main and side characters through this story! The character and world-building is top tier. The storyline is captivating with adventure, action, and just enough spice. I can’t wait for book 3 to see where the plot takes Valeria and Rifior.
EXCUSE ME??? I wasn’t expecting another ending that had me banging my head against the wall. 🥲😵💫
The second book in the series was even better than the first. It continues right where House of the Raven left off. Echoes of the Raven is action packed, full of twists and turns, and delves deep into Rifior’s history. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. The character develop was wonderful. The darker themes of trauma and murder were handled well. I hope to see more about Jago and about Galen! They were great comedic relief. I loved the politics - and I usually don’t prefer politics. I forgot just how complex House of the Raven was and this book is no exception. There are explicit scenes, this book is only for adults.
What made it 4? The constant italicized exclamations in the narrators’ inner monologues got obnoxious really fast. It took me out of the story.
Perhaps, this was the way it would always turn out. Perhaps two fundamentally different races living in harmony is an impossibility. Our differences were never meant to be surmounted. Compromise was never an option.
Andddd the slow-burn continues …
Echoes of the Raven by Ingrid Seymour is a solid continuation of The Eldrystone series, picking up immediately where House of the Raven left off. The story plunges into darkness right from the start, which sets the tone for the intense journey ahead. Given how the first book ended, I didn’t expect to love Rífíor at the start of this book by any means, but initially, I found him extremely irritating. However, as the story progressed and more of his backstory unfolded, I started to appreciate his complexity and feel for him. His transformation from someone I disliked (after quite liking him in House of the Raven) to a character I really rooted for was one of the highlights for me.
The relationship between Valeria and her sister, Queen Amira, adds an interesting layer to the plot. The push-and-pull dynamic of trust and love versus suspicion kept me engaged in the first half of the book, where the pacing felt otherwise slow. It took a bit to get fully immersed in the story, but once I did, I couldn’t put it down!
The side characters of Jago and Cuervo are, as always, absolutely delightful, and I’m excited to see how others, like Galen, will evolve in future installments. The plot twists, while sometimes expected, were good, especially the (completely unexpected) twist at the end. And of course, the chemistry and tension, the love and hate, between Valeria and Rífíor is electric, blooming into a sweet—and satisfying—dynamic.
Overall, Echoes of the Raven shines in its second half, where the pacing quickly picks up, the plot thickens, and the character development deepens. Not to mention that ending?!! WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME?! I don’t know how I'll handle having to wait for Flight of the Raven (book 3) now.
Content warnings include explicit sexual scenes, betrayal, torture, trauma, murder, and death.
This continues to build on the dark and mysterious world that Ingrid Seymour crafted in the first book, taking us deeper into the secrets of the fae and the tangled web of alliances and betrayals that define this story. If you enjoyed the first book, you’re in for another wild ride!
This dives headfirst into the complexities of its characters, especially Rífíor, who was more of an enigma in the previous book. Here, we get a clearer picture of his motives, his past, and the burdens he carries. It’s refreshing to see him evolve into a more three-dimensional character, even if some of his choices still make you dislike him at times! It all makes sense eventually and I was sympathetic by the end.
Amira, our main character's sister, also gets more depth in this book. Her actions are driven by fear and grief, making her a more complex and understandable antagonist. While her methods are QUITE harsh, you can’t help but understand her motives, even if you can't actually sympathize with her due to her terrible decisions.
The story does take some unexpected turns. Along the way, we encounter a colorful cast of supporting characters, although Jago, who was such a vibrant part of the first book, feels a bit sidelined here. He’s there, but his role seems to serve more as a plot device, and I’m hopeful that he’ll get more substantial development in the next.
The lore surrounding The Eldrystone, the veil, and the complex history of the fae realm is both interesting and intricate, and the stakes are raised as the story unfolds. There’s a noticeable shift towards darker themes, and I’m curious to see how these will be handled moving forward, as they certainly add gravity to the plot.
Overall, this is a solid continuation of what promises to be an engaging and adventurous series. It’s clear there’s still much more to uncover and things will continue to build.
Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review. This review is based on a complimentary pre-released copy and it is voluntary. All opinions are my own.
The world building.... amazing!!!! The characters.... I absolutely love them!!!! I would have loved more spice 🌶🌶 but overall, this was an absolutely wonderful read!!! I had the hardest time putting it down. I love your work, Ingrid!!!!
I loved how this book was full of drama, tension and mystery as well. The action and story line had be hooked it has adventure with spice in it!! This was an exciting adventure to read for book 2 of the eldrystone series and i can’t wait to read book 3!
This is one of the occasions that the 2nd book outshines the first. I enjoyed House of the Raven, but Echoes is better. Maybe because it can focus on the plot and action now that the world & character building has been done, but maybe because it was more of an epic journey than defeat the villain like the first book. You get a lot more spice in this installment too. There’s tension and angst, snark and a dramatic reveal. The second half really ramped up the interest level. Can’t wait for the next one! Thank you Ingrid Seymour for the advanced copy.
That ending!! I was definitely not expecting that but I do love that twist.
This is the second book in the Eldrystone series, so if you have not read House of the Raven go do that first and come back to this one. I loved that we got a deeper dive into Rifior's backstory because there was so much left unanswered from the first book. We also got to know more about Valeria's mom and her history and the veil. We got to see Valeria grow a lot more in this book just like we saw her growth in the last book. Just like that last book I love that she is main character who is relatable in the sense that things are not just going to work out for her because she is a princess and the main character. The comedic relief provided by Jago and Galen was just the perfect amount! This second book has a lot more drama, action, romance and political themes which I found enjoyable.
This book like the first one is a very easy read in the best way, I finished this book basically in one sitting and would have finished it the day I started it but my kindle died and my power went out due to a lightning/thunder storm. The story and characters immediately pull you in and I love that it's a fantasy series where I don't spend the first half utterly confused because the info dump is just to much.
So if you are looking for a fun, spicy fantasy series with a realistic FMC and a grumpy, brooding fae MMC, this is the right place!
Now I really need the third book to come out!
Thank you Ingrid for the ARC! I had so much fun with this book and can't wait to see what you come up with next!
My mind is reeling after reading this book. OMG absolutely phenomenal. There is so many unexpected twists with danger lurking everywhere. The plot only thickens in this. The journey that these characters take leads them into the unknown dropping big revelations that change the course of everything. There's hidden identity, truths, secrets, surprises, action, moving pieces and parts that catch you off guard. Rífíor one of the main characters he totally gives off that true villain vibe but there's just that one small piece of him that leaves me to believe that there is so much more to him than meets the eye and there sure is. The tension that is in this story is placed well throughout the storyline. Valeria and Rífíor most definitely have this hate to love, love to hate kind of thing going on. The mystery surrounding the amulet, the Eldrystone, and the veil each have their own means to ensnare you in the story. This is a roller coaster of twists with some heartbreak that hits the feels. By the time I was done reading this book I was not expecting it all to go down the way it did nor was I expecting that kind of an ending. I think I'm left with more questions than the answers that I got reading this but it has me buzzing with excitement waiting for that next book.
Echoes of the Raven is the second installment in The Eldrystone series. I was on the edge of my seat through the whole book and I did not want to put it down. It is full of action, drama, emotion, and unexpected twists.
The character developments are top notch. This books dives deep into Rifior’s backstory and what motivates him. It also reveals quite a bit more about Valeria’s mother. Amina’s development was unexpected. I’m interested to see how her story will continue to unfold in the next book. Jago and Cuervo bring some much needed joy to Valeria and heart to the overall story. While a lot of questions were answered, a whole host of new ones have come up.
As complicated as things are between Valeria and Rifior, their relationship (and the spice) continues to grow. There are a few more spicy scenes in this book which happen organically and add to the story. I’m really curious to find out how things will go for them in the next book, especially after that ending!
Echoes of the Raven ends with another huge reveal that has me begging for book 3 already! I highly recommend this series.
A huge thank you to Ingrid Seymour for the Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of Echoes of the Raven.
And I thought I read House of the Raven Fast....I couldn't have read Echoes faster if I tried. The writing style is so smooth and easy to digest, everything just flows right from the page into my brain.
I love books where I'm immersed so much that I feel like I'm watching a movie versus reading a book and this one was of those instances.
I loved getting more dual POV in this book! I also loved how TRULY enemies to lovers we are in this book. The betrayal from book 1 runs deep, and I love that Val didn't give in so easily. But once again, she proved to be extremely evolved and was open to considering that someone's past could determine their current actions (even if not okay, she always tries to understand).
While we don't get a ton of Rifior until a bit later in the story, once he wakes up and shakes himself out of his denial, I loved learning a bit more about him. Even then...his denial dialogue was cute (nice try, buddy....we see through that).
The storyline here is INTENSE and I love the journey Seymour takes us on throughout! I also love that the magic system is evolving and I know we will get more in book 3!
"Echoes of the Raven" is the 2nd book in The Eldrystone series by Ingrid Seymour
Realese Day August 29th, 2024 Pre orders available
Phenomenal!!!! 🔥🔥🔥
This book is full of suspense, mystery, and twists! Many twists!!! 🫣
The story started where the last book ended with the capture of Princess Valeria by Riffior.
In this book, Princess Valeria has a lot of decisions to make. Not only her personal decisions but also ones for people. There is a lot going on from the very beginning to the end, and it all flows so easily and nicely together. The characters are getting stronger, braver, and more empathetic as they go. The hate and love are palpable between Val and Riffior. 🤭 This is the very definition of a thin line between hate and love.🥰
The book was a well written wild read that I really enjoyed. Can't wait to read what happens next.
I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Not only has this book got its hooks into me but I've shouted more reading it than any book this year. It had me yelling no - go - yes and all sorts of other things that would be spoilers. I did not read the first book in the series first, I will go back and read it because I want to know it all. However, for the most part, I've been fine starting with # 2. I have a bad habit of missing the first in a series.
This book is so good. The characters had me invested from the get go. The twists had me yelling. Sometimes with colorful language. Rífíor had me wanting to rip my hair out at points. I thought I had read my top book of the year. I am no longer sure which gets the top spot but I have zero anger about that.
Just a quick thank you for Galen. I didn't know I needed another character to love but he is *chef's kiss*. Valeria is a strong FMC who you cannot help but root for. I could go on forever and I feel like I have. Just got read the book already!
Rifior and Valeria have a love Hate relationship. He is so set on a way to go back home and the Val comes on the scene and he falls for her. So many unexpected twists with danger everywhere. Hidden identities, truths, surprises and secrets and catch unaware of ehst will happen.
The Eldrynstone is an answer to most of mystery and causes rifts with alot of persons everyone has there own manners they want to use it.At the end of the book the ending surprized me as it was unexpected.
Can't wait for the next book I loved this book so much.
Thank you Ingrid for keeping me guessing every chapter. I THINK IT WAS VERY WELL WRITTEN
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
First off, thank you, Ingrid, for the opportunity to read this book. I loved the first book so much and was waiting not so patiently just kidding very patiently, waiting for book 2. There was something happening throughout the whole book. so I definitely didn't get bored. In the beginning, I was getting very upset with how thing's were going between the fmc and mmc. I love the mm, so yea, lol. I adore Valeria she's a strong female. And I'm so glad her cousin was there for her. I hope we get to see more with him (Ingrid knows). There for sure is going to be another boo, the cliffhanger I did not see coming.I'm soo glad there was tho because I'm so excited to see more of the other world. Overal, this book gave exactly what I wanted in a sequel and totally sets you up for the next. So excited and sad I have to wait
I’m sorry…..WHAT! That ending, OMG! 😱 Loved this book! I enjoyed it much more than Book 1. There was so much more tension and loved all the twists and surprises throughout.
I’m so happy learning a lot more of Rífíor’s past and what lead him to be the way he is. Loved seeing Val’s strength and growth throughout the book and how she followed her heart to do what she believes is right. Jago is also one of my favourite side characters.
The journey they take puts Val and Rífíor in close proximity with one another again and they both have trouble denying the pull they have to each other. They are unable to continue to deny their desires and the chemistry between them is scorching! I seriously cannot wait for Book 3!!
Absolutely loved Valeria. She's a little spitfire not to be messed with. While she struggles on occasion with which decision she should make, she always ends up making the one she feels is best, even if it goes against her own family.
Korben, Rífíor, River, Bastien, aw heck, whichever his name is, has always been fighting for what he believes is right and for his people. Along the way, Valeria broke down his walls and showed him there could be more to life than vengeance or revenge. That they could be more powerful together than not.
I'm looking forward to Book 3. I have so many more questions that need to be answered.
Ingrid Seymour's Echoes of the Raven, the second installment in the Eldrystone series, not only continues the enthralling tale set in House of the Raven but amplifies everything that made the first book a captivating read. From its intricate world-building to its multifaceted characters and a plot brimming with twists, this sequel firmly establishes the Eldrystone series as a must-read for fans of romantasy.
Picking up immediately after the events of the first book, Echoes of the Raven thrusts readers back into a world teetering on the brink of chaos. The rich cultural backdrop, with its unique blend of influences, is expanded upon, providing deeper insights into the history and magic that govern this realm. The lore surrounding the Veil and the mysteries of the Eldrystone take center stage, adding layers of complexity to an already vivid world.
The characters you grew attached to in House of the Raven continue their arcs with even greater depth and nuance. Valeria’s determination, Rífíor’s enigmatic presence, and Amina’s unexpected evolution bring new dimensions to their personalities, making them more compelling than ever. Amina’s character arc, in particular, stands out as a highlight, adding unexpected complexity and depth to her role in the story. As the plot unfolds, the stakes rise, and the relationships between these characters become increasingly intricate, driven by both the external conflicts they face and their internal struggles.
One of the strengths of Seymour’s storytelling lies in her ability to craft a plot that is both unpredictable and cohesive. Just as in the first book, Echoes of the Raven is packed with twists and turns, yet it never feels overwhelming or disjointed. The ongoing mysteries, particularly those surrounding the royal family, the Veil, and Rífíor’s true motives, keep readers on their toes, eagerly turning pages to uncover the next revelation. The pacing is expertly managed, balancing action-packed sequences with moments of introspection and discovery, ensuring that the reader remains fully engaged throughout.
The inclusion of more spicy scenes in this installment adds to the emotional intensity without detracting from the story’s progression. These moments feel organic, enhancing the characters’ relationships and the overall narrative. They are placed thoughtfully within the context of the story, contributing to the characters' development rather than merely serving as distractions.
As the story builds towards its climax, Seymour answers some of the lingering questions from House of the Raven while introducing new enigmas that promise to be explored in the third book. The conclusion of Echoes of the Raven delivers yet another monumental reveal, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.
I'd like to express my sincere gratitude to Ingrid Seymour for providing me with an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of Echoes of the Raven. This review reflects my honest opinions and insights into the book.
Echoes of the Raven, the second installment of The Eldrystone Series by Ingrid Seymour, is a breathtaking continuation that had me completely captivated. The balance between mystery, tension, and character growth was masterful, and it felt like every twist added layers of depth to the world and the characters.
Valeria’s journey in this book was truly compelling. Watching her transform from a naive dreamer into a fierce, determined woman willing to challenge even the most dangerous forces was well paced and an excellent character arc. Her dynamic with Rífíor is at the heart of this novel—there’s such an intense push and pull between them, filled with longing, anger, and something deeper neither can fully articulate. The love-hate tension between them sizzles, and the slow reveal of Rífíor’s past adds so much weight to their interactions.
But what really sets this book apart is how seamlessly the plot unfolds. Every moment feels purposeful, from Valeria’s struggle to protect the fae to the mysteries surrounding her mother and the Eldrystone. The pacing is just right, with enough action to keep you on edge, while allowing the relationships to breathe and develop naturally. The side characters, like Jago and Cuervo, are more than just background—they add levity and heart, making the journey feel full and immersive.
Seymour’s world-building is vivid and richly detailed. The veil, the fae realm, and the political undertones all come together to create a story that is as complex as it is thrilling. And that ending? It left me absolutely reeling. Just when I thought I had it figured out, Seymour blindsided me in the best way possible. I’m left buzzing with excitement for the next book and can’t wait to see what lies ahead for Valeria, Rífíor, and this mesmerizing world.
If you love a story with high stakes, richly drawn characters, and a plot full of twists and secrets waiting to be uncovered, Echoes of the Raven is a must-read. It’s a beautifully dark and complex romantasy that will keep you hooked until the very last page.
Ingrid Seymour continues the Eldrystone series with Echoes of the Raven. The second book in the series was full of drama and some big reveals that would change everything.
Val started off so naive at the start of this series and it's all gone now. She's lost her innocence but it was needed for this journey. However, she's still a fantastic person who tries to do right by people and sticks to her moral code no matter how difficult. I already had a good opinion of Val and now it has only gotten higher.
My feelings for Rífíor are strong, mixed but strong. I never really thought of him as a villain until the beginning of this book. I love a good villain but at times he just irritated me. He did have his moments, few and far between as they were when he wasn't too bad. One of my favorite scenes was when they were at the inn, that's when he got me.
Wooh, this book was full of tension. My anxiety was on the higher end just waiting for what was gonna happen next. Val and Rífíor hated each other but the attraction was strong. This is the very definition of a thin line between love and hate. Val lived to antagonize him and I was so there for it. Rífíor has been a curiosity for a little bit because nothing was revealed about him. He always gave off this sketchy vibe and now I know why, the truth is finally revealed and it was explosive. It was so good, although the stuff with Amira shocked me more. She's changed and not for the better, now I'm wondering how that's gonna resolve itself.
Echoes of the Raven was excellent. That had to be one of the best endings I've read. I think it's because Seymour distracted me so well that I was sort of blindsided by it but in a good way. I wasn't left in a bundle of nerves but I am dying to find out what's gonna happen next. It's gonna be so good.
The veilfallen and Rífíor have taken Val in an attempt to get the amulet. They need it in order to open up the veil again to go home. Queen Amira's distrust of the fae have her proposing a plan to banish and imprison them all. Val must decide to work with Rífíor and open up the veil once more in order to save the fae stuck in the human realm, which would be treason against the queen. She is convinced this is her only option to prevent her sister from making a mistake and becoming something hated and despised.
This is the second book in the series, with a dual POV, and gives background to Rífíor and how the veil became closed. Val struggles with her emotions where Rífíor is concerned, between lust and contempt, while Rífíor is weary of Val and her intentions with the amulet. Their attraction still grows, and it seems fate has destined them to rely on each other in order to achieve a common goal. There is plenty of action, character development on both parts, and twist along the way. The story ends on a cliffhanger and opens up for the continuation of book three. I'm excited and can't wait to see what happens next!
Escaping the Veilfallen, Valeria is reunited with her sister Amira- but she isn't the girl Valeria remembers anymore. And when Valeria starts to get interested in politics and sees Amira's plan concerning the fae, she cannot stay still. Taking the Eldrystone and Rifior from prison, Valeria is determined to reopen the veil and try to bring peace to the two races - yet her journey is full of danger, challenges, and battles... and revealed secrets that shake everything she ever believed. I absolutely enjoyed the second book, watching Valeria following her heart and the strong sense of justice, even being insubordinate to the new queen. Her relationship with Rifior (or whatever name you want to pick from all his personas) is hot and cold, from absolute distrust through rage to undeniable attraction and lust. The magic in this book is enchanting, the characters are great, and the drama and suspense are gluing me to the chair. I absolutely love Cuevo, that bird is a nice addition to the story, and the fact the Eldrystone seems to have a mind on its own - then you never know what happens :) Love it, waiting for the next one!
After surviving a difficult situation along with the betrayal of someone that she had started developing feelings for Valeria wants nothing more than revenge and to help her people get back on track. Unfortunately things are not easy and Valeria comes to learn that perhaps what she thought she about those closest to her is not the truth. Who is Rífíor truly and can she learn to trust him? It seems like now there is even more danger lurking around. I’m always impressed with how resilient Valeria is and even when she finds herself in the most desperate situations she never gives up. I’m quite disappointed in her sister and I wonder if she was truly not aware of what she was doing before. I loved that just when you thought that the characters were nearing the end of their journey something came up and prevented them from getting there. We definitely understand more about Rífíor and why he has made such drastic decisions in recent times. I can’t wait to see what the next book brings.
Thanks to Ingrid for the opportunity to read the arc. I adore this series!!
A few twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. I liked that the growth between the FMC and MMC isn’t to the typical context you see in other romantasies. MMC opens up but in small bursts and is still mostly guarded due to his own personal demons, and FMC isn’t automatically just “ok, all good now!” But more like “ok, I understand, I want to know more but respect your space too.”
Spice level I would have is 2.5🌶️🌶️. There was more than the first book. I do wish the scenes went on a liiiittle longer if I’m being honest. I don’t need pages and pages worth but I feel like we get barely a paragraph or 2 in this book. I’m just longing for a bit more from it.
I think it’s set up really well for a solid story for the 3rd book and I can’t wait to see where it goes!
Was really looking forward to this book and it didn't disappoint at all. 🩷
We learn more about Rifior and his past, as well about Valeria's mother. It's interesting how Valeria reacts to finding out more about the two of them.
Both Valeria and Rifior show a lot of character growth and go through so much together, it really brought them closer together.
We have a lot of action happening, it's not too quick paced, everything goes really well together.
I love the side characters a lottt! Love the relationship Valeria has with her cousin Jago and with Cuervo.
Might be spoilery: . . . .
Am really looking forward to see who Cuervo is 👀👀🙊 And loved just *partially* the end 😭 Was not expecting any of the 2 things that happened 😭 Really need the next book asap!! 🥲🥲
Well, that ending made me want to throw the book. I need book 3 like now.
This is book 2 in the series, and it does start off where the previous book left off. The rollercoaster this book will take you on will continue to have bumps, hills, and twisty turns, buckle in and get ready. At times, these characters make me want to yell at them, make me sad, or make me want to hug them. The tension in both the plot and between characters will keep you on your toes. I'm curious what book 3 will bring for the series, but excited to see.
If you like books with political tension, betrayals, alliances, enemies to lovers, magic, found family, adventure, and secrets then this book will be for you.
This is a must read! Echoes of the Raven is book two in this series, following on from what was already a very intriguing book one and this follow up does not disappoint!
Right from the start I was immersed into this story which kicks off right where the first had ended. Ingrid's storytelling weaving readers thoughts here and there, as we try to unravel the mysteries within. I absolutely loved this book!
Watch out for that ending! It may take you by surprise! Bring on book 3!! Hopefully I don't have to wait too long because I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to find out where it goes from here!
If you love discovering new worlds, kick arse female characters, brooding men or potential forbidden romances then this book is for you!
I have been anticipating this book ever since I finished House of the Raven (also a FANTASTIC book). This book follows the events of book 1, so please read the first book before this one to fully enjoy the story.
We learn more about how the veil falls...and it is a surprising tale! I was absolutely transfixed as the story unfolded. I could not put this book down and read it well into the night. I had so many mixed feelings about Rifior. He was the grumpiest of grumps in book one and now we know why. My heart also broke for Valeria. So much to go through!
I loved how detailed and complex the story was. I finished the book and immediately NEED the next book. What an ending!!!
