This resource draws on the riches of Holy Scripture, historic creeds, and the vibrant Wesleyan
tradition to explain the powerful truths that serve as a foundation for the Christian faith. The goal of catechesis is to train disciples to understand, recall, profess, and enjoy the church’s essential teachings. You will discover herein a supporting resource to A Catechism of Christian Faith and Doctrine for the Global Methodist Church and an invitation to receive the faith once delivered to the saints. With annotations written by David A. deSilva, PhD, a leading scholar and teacher of the church, these entries expand on the seventy-seven questions and affirmations of the catechism, further explaining these foundational theological confessions in an accessible style. This work can serve as a critical aide for anyone immersing themselves in the Christian faith, especially teachers and leaders discipling and catechizing others, new believers in the Global Methodist Church and Christianity in general, seekers curious about the Christian faith or the Wesleyan tradition.
David A. deSilva (PhD, Emory University) is Trustees’ Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Greek at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio. His numerous books include Introducing the Apocrypha and An Introduction to the New Testament: Contexts, Methods, and Ministry Formation.
Here I was thinking I had gathered an eclectic set of beliefs regarding the Christian faith. As it turns out, I think I’m a Methodist! This was a great, enriching summary of the Christian faith.
Absolutely wonderful work by Dr DeSilva, a massive upgrade to the Catechism itself. Wonderful exposition and expansion, well worth getting if you want to have a GMC catechism. Though to be plenty fair I know quite a few Methodist who use different catechisms, including returning to Wesley's Revision of the Westminster Shorter Catechism.
Great resource, no fluff only good info. Only improvement I can think of is to have more resources in the back. 25 articles, some of Wesley’s sermons, more prayers like the Gloria patria etc. but great resource!
A wonderful aid and guide in understanding what the Global Methodist Church believes about the teaching of John Wesley and more importantly what it means to be a Christian.
