Wraiths of New Orleans #1

Knight of the Living Dead

Rate this book
It all begins with an eternal bargain.

The night I’m murdered, I’m offered a deal—resign myself to a shallow, unmarked grave, or bind myself to a malevolent ghost for another chance at life.

Sharing headspace with a blood-thirsty monster sucks, but it beats the alternative of grave dirt and decomp. At least, that’s what I think until I’m fighting to rein in my Black Knight’s violent impulses, and the specters, spirits, and all things dark and deadly go berserk.

Something has crawled its way free of the Underworld and is stalking the city’s streets, inciting the ghosts to frenzy, and dragging New Orleans into undeadly danger.

With no idea what I’m dealing with, I exchange the decadent heart of the French Quarter for the depths of the Underworld to protect the worlds of the living and the dead.

Because if I don’t fix this…my second chance at life will be over a lot sooner than I hoped.

3.5 stars. Well, there were both good and bad/confusing parts. It took a while for the story to really catch on, but I was never into DNF mode. I think part of it - for me - was the difficulty continually bouncing between memories from the ghosts, comments from the Wraith (Black Knight), and inner discussions the main character had with herself. Oh, on top of the regular conversations. We never really got a great explanation for how the Black Knight merged with her. The second death was pretty bad though. I'm still not convinced she has learned "to live" yet. Hopefully, Jack will help with that.
Action and explanations do improve as the story unfolds. Interesting enough to look for Book 2 in February.

I FINALLY read this book!

And I’m so darn sorry it took so long… I already knew Ava Bishop was a phenomenal writer, and believe me when I say she did some excellent work with the quantum magi, but this series, or this book, at least, is a whole new level!

I I bought it from the movie came out, but there were so much more to be rented, that I just lost track… Her most recent book was released, and that brought this to mine and had to dig it out. Don’t make the same mistake! This is worth reading now, immediately, so Fort! You will not regret it

Mixed match

This is a great start to the series. I really like all of the characters and the story was so good I had to stay up reading until I finished the book. I read the first series by this author and enjoyed it, and will continue to read any of her books. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
