If you love mysteries with a dash of quirky characters, a dose of warped magic, and snarky humor, you'll love Alyn Troy's new Paranormal Cozy Mystery series. Get your copy of A Twisted Tune today to untie this mystery.
Alyn Troy is an American from the Midwest (Indiana) who writes The Mystic Brews and Pixie Twist series of Paranormal Cozy Mysteries. In addition to Indiana, he's lived in Southern California, where the Pixie Twist series is set, and has served as a history docent on a notable pier in SoCal. In his past lives, he's been a journalist, a wedding photographer, and an adjunct professor.
Alyn gets assistance from his fuzzy familiar (AKA "Lord Fuzzbutt"). When not helping his human with the writing of paranormal cozy mysteries, Lord Fuzzbutt likes to sit out outside and watch the hummingbirds dart about like pixies. He often yowls at the door, waiting to head to the patio for chipmunk duty. Fortunately, the little rodents are craftier than Fuzzbutt is.
Alyn's beverage of choice is dark roast coffee with a dash of honey, and a splash of half-n-half. In addition to being half-way competent with his home espresso machine, Alyn makes a mean Mai Tai.
Overview: Twizzle Twist has gotten a rather large problem. The city council of Saint Maurice is planning to destroy the pier. According to the Blue Cauldrons, it's the cause of all the crime in the city. Too bad that Officer Harold is giving the Blues all of the ammunition that they need. If that's not enough, Twizzle and Chaz, her boyfriend, stumble upon a dead body. Tommy Neptune had just hit his stride as a singer, only to be thrown away on top of a child's merry-go-round at a playground. Who would want Tommy dead? Can they save the pier? And will Twizzle speak to her mother? Let's find out.
Dislikes: The Blue Cauldrons were a pain in the neck. You don't get to call yourself a free thinker when you follow everything that the head of your organization wants to do.
Does Harold ever write a justified ticket? People could easily fight the fines in the courts. You would think that the chief would have set him to a less volatile job.
Likes: Twizzle works hard at her real estate job, if the boss' secretary is being serious. And she has thrived in spite of her faerock disabilities. Though, she could easily give you second-hand diabetes. She has quite the sweet tooth.
Saint Maurice handled those touched by the faerock well. They were no longer capable of living safely on their own, and the city found a way to give them a honorable job to hold, helping both them and the town.
Evelyn was neat to follow.
Conclusion: This was a fun book. You need to have a preference for the urban fantasy novels to have fun with this book. Enjoy the read.
Twizzle is settling into her new relationship with nephew number 87 also known as Chaz they have managed to put the murders that brought them together behind them, though there is still the mystery of the Pier, and the development committee so keen to see it demolished, even though the majority of the magical residents do not want to see the history of the pier taken away and replaced with well who knows what! However despite this rumbling away in the background Twizzle and Chaz find themselves embroiled in another murder when one of the piers buskers is found dead, Tommie Neptune had managed to get a prime time slot singing in the show at the Double Clam the siren bar under the pier. But after an exhilarating opening night Chaz and Twizzle find him dead, but who would want him dead, or rather it seems who wouldn't? Lots of twists in turns, this is a great mystery with an amazing conclusion! I am loving this new series by Alyn Troy don't get me wrong I love the Welsh Valleys but as a disabled person I love that Alyn has written her disabled characters as strong independent capable people just as we all are, a gimpy leg, or a wonky wing do not stop Twizzle living her life, and I admire that, In St Maurice disabilities are normal because of the Fae Rock so no one is thought of as less than, it is refreshing. A great mystery with lot's of red herrings and clues, all in all a great afternoons read!
Have just recently discovered this writer and I must say I really love her work, if I could give more than 5 stars I certainly would. I downloaded as many of her books as I could find. Twisted Tune is about a pier that has little shops cafes and buskers and someone is trying to pull the pier down. A singer gets murdered and Twizzie takes on the case to find out who the killer is. Lots of suspects to speak with but she soon has her answers.I couldn’t put it down and read it in one sitting. Looking forward to reading more about Twizzie and co.
Alyn Troy has a gift of balancing a good mystery with the lightness of cozy but not with too much cuteness. Thank goodness this is NOT a culinary cozy with repetitive storylines. This is one of the few mysteries I've read with handicapped main characters which is impressive and thought provoking. These characters don't have to be perfect to be clever and likeable. Physical differences don't change the can-do personality of any of these characters. I'm excited to see what's in store next.
The boardwalk at the beach town of St. Maurice, California is starting to fill up with the various entertainers who ply their trade every day. A body is found at the playground by the beach. Twizzle has her hands full investigating who put an early end to the new performer’s act. As things go downhill Twizzle gets help from some visitors to town & ends up with a few surprises when the killers are finally arrested.
If you haven’t read previous books in this series, some of the characters get a bit confusing. However it is an entertaining story which kept me engaged. I particularly like that, despite most of the characters having what would be considered disabilities, they all have considerable scope to shine.I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was my first book I've read by this author. I found this cozy paranormal mystery story enjoyable. Twizzle and her friends were interesting, they were strong independent characters with disabilities they overcome, since a Fae Rock is to blame. Their solving the murder of Tommy Neptune was interesting with its twist and turns, and I didn't guess who did it. Overall, I'd enjoyed reading this copy I'd received and volunteer to read and review.
Twizzle is settling into her relationship with Chaz . Nice to see that they don't need to be around eachother 24/7 After a show , one the singers is found murdered Twizzle is poking her nose in , together with a potential new resident for St.Mo Enough red herrings to keep you guessing , and boy is there a surpice apperance at the end Again: Alyn has written a fun, clean , cozy
I wasn't sure I'd like this genre, but this book is a goodie. Visiting a town that is paranormal friendly, Twizzle, a fairy, enjoys herself and helps solve a murder. It's a good story that doesn't rely on the magical powers of anyone. It'd still be good without it, but the magic just adds some fun and interest.
Another enjoyable read. The lead singer at the show is later found dead & later on another of the Pier’s regular buskers is also found dead. Various leads & wrongful ideas by the police, once again Twizzle gets involved & solves the case.
St Maurice is a mainly paranormal town and due to local minerals, the locals have a variety of different abilities/disabilities - but despite being paranormal they still have 'normal' jobs to deal with.
This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Loved this book! As an avid mystery reader, I totally didn’t see the, excuse the pun, “twist” at all! Highly recommend, as well as the first in the series!
This cozy mystery has the perfect amount of cuteness and romance without being over the top. I love the inclusion of so many different disabled characters too. I easily read it in one sitting.
