Transformed by the Vegas queen of vampires, Eden Sayers must choose between her alliance with the vampire women, her love for another unearthly creature, or working for the CIA to destroy the coven. Caught up in a love too irresistible to turn away from, will she come to a grisly end at the hands of her supernatural rival?
Las Vegas can be a tough town. You never know from one day to the next whether you’ll lose your shirt, or even your life. That’s what happens to Eden Sayers, the reluctant heroine of Liz Newman’s terrifying funny novel, Vampire Eden.
Eden’s journey to rock bottom has been slow and agonizing: from the co-dependent girlfriend of Kevin, an abusive loser, to “exotic dancer” and soon-to-be stripper. She doesn’t want to turn tricks, but with Kevin chronically ill and the bills piling up, she needs a way to make cash fast. She considers herself lucky when her first “john” is a handsome guy named Patrick. But it’s Patrick’s eleven-hundred-dollar casino chip that convinces her to follow him into the dark Vegas alley. As it turns out, Eden’s luck with paying customers isn’t so good either. Patrick’s sole purpose is to deliver Eden to a group of female vampires. Eden is supposed to be their meal, but she convinces Aoleon, the beautiful and evil ringleader, to turn her into a vampire instead.
There are some things about becoming a vampire that appeal to Eden; for one, it will solve that pesky aging problem. As soon as Aoleon’s venom enters her bloodstream, she is once more in the full bloom of youth. On the other hand, she must deliver fresh victims to Aoelon or face an agonizing death. As if that isn’t enough, the super-secret Paranormal Investigations department of the CIA will throw her in jail—for eternity—if she doesn’t help them bring Aoleon down. Eden learns that whether you’re alive or undead, the world can be a real drag.
Part Ann Rice part Christopher Moore, Vampire Eden will scare you to death one minute and make you laugh out loud the next.
Eden is an aging prostitute in Las Vegas. She is barely making enough money for her and her crippled boyfriend Kevin to survive. One night she happens to meet Patrick, a dealer at a casino, and offers her services. But she gets more than she expected when Patrick and her have a connection and a deadly vampire and her coven try to killer her.
Eden is partly changed because she hears the voices of the dead that the leader Aoleon wants to hear. Aoleon is looking for the King of the Dead so she can kill him. Eden doesn’t want to stay mixed up with the vampires so she goes looking for Patrick who then leads her to the King of Death. Things get complicated when the paranormal branch of the CIA gets involved in Eden’s life and starts squeezing her for both parties.
I liked this book. At first I was not impressed with Eden but after she meets Patrick I couldn’t help but cheer for her. I liked the King of Death and got sucked into the story of Patrick. This is a short read that end To Be Continued… and I can’t wait to find more about this story.
This is a great books and I plan on reading more by Liz Newman and about Eden. This is a paranormal romance that you don’t want to miss.
I received this book for free from Book Rooster in exchange for an honest review.
This story is a little chaotic for me. I guess, I just felt confused stumbling around the story. It was sort of odd the way the story was set up.
This might be a huge spoiler but how can you meet someone for twelve minutes and love them? Like, ok. Lust after, sure. Love? Come on! Like I said, so confused.
Everything just sort of happened. We really didn't learn a lot. Basically, Eden, a prostitute finds herself falling for the handsome man sitting in front of her. Until, he leads her to a monster. Still, she finds herself in love with Patrick. How? I don't know.
The story just sort of happens. I found it difficult to really connect with anyone when we don't get deeper into them. We just sort of have everything thrown at us and we don't end up connecting with anyone.
What's worse is the way this ended. AHHHH. I'm so frustrated. I'm not sure how I do it but two stories in a row end with a "to be continued." It literally left off in a conversation. Not that the book was that good to begin with but why do that to me? I'm already frustrated enough with the story so why not go for broke?
Vampire Eden by Liz Newman answers the question: What happens when a former prostitute and half-vampire falls in love with a zombie and the CIA gets involved? Oh, you never asked that question? Too bad! Liz Newman already turned it into a story... See our full review at: http://feedthezombiechildren.org/
