'I am out of the country and will not be checking my emails' DAWN FRENCH'The file is just showing up blank my end?'GRAYSON PERRY'Best book eva!!!'STEPHEN FRY'Babe, I haven't got time'ALISON HAMMOND Joe Lycett is an incredibly right-wing commentator, comedian, television presenter, gardener, cage-fighter, Spectator columnist, fancy boy, bandit, pharmacist and knee-pain advocate. He is also a world-renowned portraitist, and some of the world's most influential and infamous people - Liz Truss, Eamonn Holmes, Mick Hucknall - have sat for him, keen to be immortalised through the medium of colour. Inside Joe Lycett's Art Hole you'll find his greatest artistic achievements and, for the first time, the salacious stories behind the portraits, some of them completely and utterly unbelievable. Read how His Royal Highness Prince William, The Prince of Whales, sat for an exclusive portrait whilst extolling the virtues of the Phillips Air Fryer Series XXL Connected, which has 16 different cooking functions including fry, bake, grill, roast, dehydrate, toast, defrost, reheat, ferment and more. Enjoy a never-before-seen portrait of Priti Patel, done in a break from her hobby as one of the United Kingdom's greatest fly-tippers. And delight in the gob-smacking story of then-Deputy Prime Minister Therese Coffey averting an international incident at Cadbury World. Joe Lycett's Art Hole is brimming with surprises, including an astonishing array of British cultural titans, such as Harry Styles, Robert Peston, Nadine Dorries and Elaine Paige. Stunningly designed, it is sure to delight, fascinate and perhaps even inspire you to pick up a paint brush, insert yourself at the heart of contemporary British public life, and do some absolutely wank paintings of celebs.
As Joe Lycett (probably) once said; why let the truth get in the way of a good story? You just know Joe was the camp kid at school, starved of attention, who developed an overactive imagination.
Joe Lycetts Art Hole is a delve into the running commentary, inside his childish and witty brain, and it is an absolute delight!!
A joyful, colourful book of shitty, uplifting art. That slightly ridicules politics and celebrities with the silliest of stories, who have inspired his work.
My only regret buying this book is I accidentally left it where my 12 year old could find it, and she asked me what "throat goat" meant.
I probably should have waited for the paperback version so I could have read it in the bath in privacy, with a "crisp glass of piss" away from my nosey kids.
This book won't win any awards, but it will tickle you and maybe inspire you to be abit more creative for fun. Plus, it looks pretty on the book shelf.

Absolutely hilarious, as per usual, and complete nonsense, as per usual. Much more text heavy than I was expecting, and even though I’m writing this review the minute I’ve finished reading it, I could not tell you what a single one of his stories was about. In terms of the paintings, my particular favourites were ‘Timothee Chalamallett’ (a portrait combining the legendary Timothee Chalamet and Timmy Mallett) and ‘Alan Sugar Staring at you Through a Skylight’. In the latter especially, I feel that Joe really captured the essence of Lord Sugar (in that it actually looked quite like him).
If you’re a Joe Lycett fan, go get this book straight away - you will not be disappointed!
You wouldn’t think it, but this works so well as an audiobook. Essentially Joe tells some highly suspicious but totally hilarious stories about how the various portraits of celebrities he’s done came in to being. Joe’s performance really brings the fun to life and it’s not much hassle to look at the accompanying PDF to see the art. This was Joe at his finest; silly and culturally referential in the wittiest way, this had me laughing out loud!
Not sure what I've just read. Funny book best read in bitesize chunks otherwise you think you are going crazy. I liked the landscape pictures the most, favourite was throat goat. Lost a star as he keeps mentioning his hot point fridge that is on the blink and when I started reading it my Hotpoint fridge leaked. Can't help but think it is related to this book
As a huge fan of Joe Lycett, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was every bit as quirky, absurd and hilarious as I had anticipated. I enjoyed looking at each work of art and listening to the corresponding entry. Highly entertaining and a great way to lift one's spirits.
This was very enjoyable but did have to go to it in short bursts as it is essentially Joe Lycett telling entirely made up stories about his art. Appreciated the PDFs with the audiobook, but it’s probably best enjoyed as a coffee table book.
I actually recommend listening to the audio book AND getting a physical copy of this at the same time! The audio if just to hear the giggles of Sir Alan (whilst he hides in a skylight) is completely worth it, and the hardback is beautiful and is a much better way to see Joe's colourful artwork than a pdf supplement.
