This debut poetry collection is a journey through differing shades of light and darkness, a world seen through the blurred lens of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Here, reality quivers and bows beneath the weight of innumerable intrusive thoughts, some glorious and wonderful, others frightening and macabre.
Blurred Worlds is a powerful poetry collection that explores themes of love and joy, heartbreak and loss. Most of all, it is a book about acceptance, that there is no-one true way to view this world, to embrace this dream we call life.
Above all, I hope this book to be a messenger of hope for those that struggle in their own way through mental health.
To have OCD does not have to mean a life unfulfilled. It just blurs the edges of reality from time to time.
I don’t read much poetry, but every now and then a collection passes my way. “Blurred Worlds” is an interesting and evocative compilation that presents a world as seen through “the blurred lens of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).” Passages such as “Some days you wander through cinnamon streets, speak in hermit tongue, an odour of stale whiskey and smoke on your weary exhalations” and “I don’t want to taste death, or touch it—I want to slip silently through it, anonymous to the last, oblivious to the pain” illustrate the dark poignancy of the pieces and deftly capture the challenges of mental illness. Alternate formatting presentations of some of the poems and intermittent sketches enrich this enjoyable collection as well.
A Hauntingly Beautiful Exploration of the Human Experience
"Blurred Worlds" is a stunning debut poetry collection that delves into the complexities of living with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This powerful and evocative work navigates the fragile boundaries between light and darkness, love and loss, and reality and intrusion.
The collection masterfully explores themes of:
1. Mental health: OCD's impact on daily life, the struggle for control, and the blurred lines between reality and intrusive thoughts. 2. Love and relationships: tender moments, heartbreak, and the fragility of human connections. 3. Acceptance: embracing the complexities of life, acknowledging the multiplicity of perspectives, and finding hope.
The author's lyrical prose weaves together:
1. Vivid imagery: evocative descriptions of nature, emotions, and the inner world. 2. Metaphorical language: clever uses of symbolism to convey the complexities of OCD. 3. Stream-of-consciousness: effectively capturing the fluid, often overwhelming, nature of intrusive thoughts.
It's a messenger of hope: offering solace and understanding to those struggling with mental health.
I just finished reading "Blurred Worlds" and I'm still thinking about the powerful words and emotions that filled this book. The poet shares their journey of living with OCD, and it's like they're speaking directly to your heart.
The poems talk about love, joy, and sadness, but also about the struggles of OCD. The poet shows us that even in the darkest moments, there is always hope.
What I love most about this book is its honesty. The poet shares their fears, doubts, and strengths, and it feels like they're saying, "You're not alone."
The poems are like a warm hug, reminding us that it's okay to be different and that we can find beauty in our imperfections.
If you're looking for a book that will touch your heart and make you feel less alone, read "Blurred Worlds".
Take your time reading this book, and let the poet's words sink in. Their story will inspire you to be brave and to see the beauty in your own life.
I was delighted to find this excellent book to include as part of this month’s Sealey Challenge (read 1 poetry book a day.) The author writes so well, and the poetry is interesting and excellent. Love the front cover too. Grab yourself a copy- it’s on KU!
What an incredible collection of poetry this is. A talented indie author who not only beautifully put his life and experience into words but added a creative touch by including illustrations to this gem of a book.
Read this book if… You’re looking to experience a journey through hope and darkness that will grasp your heart and not let you go until the last page. A highlight-worthy collection, that’s for sure.
A raw, beautiful glimpse through the blurred lens of reality
Blurred Worlds is a deeply moving collection that captures the delicate balance between light and darkness, joy and heartbreak, all seen through the prism of living with OCD. Darren Hawbrook’s words are intimate and unflinchingly honest, yet filled with hope. Each poem feels like stepping into a vivid, shifting dream sometimes comforting, sometimes unsettling, but always profoundly human.
This book doesn’t just speak about mental health; it embraces it, reminding us that even with blurred edges, life can be full and meaningful. A must-read for anyone who enjoys poetry that touches the soul and lingers long after the last page.
I enjoyed reading this book of poetry. It resonated with me on a few different levels, and I felt as though the poems spoke directly to me. Some of my favourite poems were 'old friend', 'chameleon' and 'molecules', although the one I loved most at the time was called 'autumn song'. This book truly lets you into the mind and soul of the author, and it's an intimate read. I highly recommend it.
