Azarinth Healer #4

Azarinth Healer: Book Four

Rate this book
Ilea is going home. After a small detour to raid an old Necromancer’s treasure room.

After months in the barren and deadly North, Ilea returns to Ravenhall to rest, check-in on old friends, and of course – train her resistances. Her homecoming includes a visit to Riverwatch where she encounters new allies… and old enemies. But what would a good holiday be without a few fights and near-death experiences?

Unfortunately, Ilea’s blood-soaked reunions are cut short when she is summoned back to Hallowfort, to help deal with a sinister corruption that is spilling out from the first layer of the Descent.

Searching for a lost expedition, Ilea explores an ancient dungeon host to long-forgotten secrets. She will be pushed to her limit and face dangers that no one in their right mind would dare to stand against.

Sounds like fun, right?

About the

Join Ilea as she is transported to a world full of monsters and magic, where power is measured by one's class, level and skills. Watch her grow in power, and recklessness, as she wields ancient hand-to-hand combat magic that can both heal and destroy. This Isekai story has a dual-Class LitRPG system where every skill, class and ability can evolve. Ilea’s tale is equal parts comfy slice-of-life wanderings, goofy jokes and brutal, blood-pumping battles with nightmarish monsters. Join her as she delves into forgotten dungeons, hoards snacks and generally does whatever she feels like.

Two + weeks and 60% later, I DNF’d

I made it to book 4 even after feeling iffy after reading book 3. There’s this sort of a pattern with this series that I personally didn’t like. It’s always fight, heal, resistance, fight, heal. Over and over and over, rarely is there a chapter that tells different. It got real sloggish for me after 30% of the book but I wanted to power through, but two weeks for me is twice the length it takes me to read a book this size, and it’s been over that. I think it’s time to give up on it, and therefore the series as a whole. It’s a great series but it’s the repetition that got me to finally quit.

I decided to skim the last 40% if anything different or interesting happens, not much.

I read this book on RR a year ago. I pretty much binge read the entire series. Everything was really good. I’ll go through it again on audiobook because Andrea Parsneau is the best.

Long winded

Whilst the story part of these books is really interesting, the action sequences and almost endless stat sheets really make this a slog to read. I got so bored of the repetitive, over powered, beat downs, that I found myself just skipping through until I saw the stat notification and then skipping again until the end of the list. I do like the story, I really do, but I also kinda wish there was a nit more "fade to black" happening with the fights.

Too many powers.

I enjoyed the characters interactions and storyline. I would have preferred a lot more interactions between characters and a lot less power explanations. I listened to the last book on Audible and I got so annoyed by the constant "ding, power upgrade" that I turned it off and read the kindle version so I could skip the overlong power explanations. I would have preferred explanation of how the places she visited faired because of her intervention. I hope the next book has more story and less "Hulk Smash".

Wonderfully Healing

The level climb is just insane now as so many are what we're once massive heights. Can't wait to see what else the levels may hide.
Great series that may nor appeal to all.

Look, I love LitRPG, Xianxia & progression fantasy in general, and I liked the general feel and story of the book, lone battle maniac wants to get stronger it's a trope but I love it, I only take issue with the way levels feel meaningless.

I understand that the concept of the single warrior fighting beasts above their weight class is the true mark of a prodigy and a way to quickly power level, examples like Defiance of the Fall, Path of Ascension or Primal Hunter may come to mind the latter where it literally has a "Class" based on hunting higher level beings, however, in all of those scenarios when the MC fights something significantly above their respective levels the fights feel memorable and challenging, and another rule is that they rarely if ever fight something a stage above themselves such as a rank disparity or a particular number of ranks (like in PoA with their concepts or intents).
The fact that Ilea (a so called 2 question mark human) is constantly fighting 3 question mark beings like is no big deal or creatures 200+ levels above her makes the whole concept of levels a bit redundant as a way to gage power, specially when the jump between those stages is so staggering as to get an evolution that drastically improves power.

So good

I continue to like this protag. A loner but not mean about it. ( i'm like that) She has friends and obligations that she takes seriously. ( i'm puzzled as to how she does much of that.) The depth and breadth of plot here is amazing but feels organic to the character. Love how she loses to overwhelming power, then uses the info she gets to get stronger so she can re-engage and win.

Book four is basically the same as book one and book three, just one long solo delve to level. This series low to mid ranked for me. It’s repetitive. The MC is contradictory, flat character. The side characters are all the same character. There’s no overarching story or narrative. There’s power growth but no character growth for the MC. The series only saving grace is the leveling progression and lots of combat. The problem is that is kind of boring when that’s all there is.

The book continues the episodic narrative style. I don’t hate the concept, I think it works better with the whole book being the episode rather than the random lengths in these books. One of the episodes takes up the majority of the book. The author did spice it up from others by making each fight against different monsters with different skills. Unfortunately this doesn’t make it less repetitive, predictable and boring.

My biggest criticism is over the course of four books, the author has shown a tendency to write every side character the same, even though he’s adding in and removing them throughout the books in this series. No matter what their age, gender, species, demeanor, personality, they all end up swooned into lifelong friendships with the MC cause she’s just a lovable battle junkie… yawn.

Same continues in this one. New shady elves? Not shady actually. Maybe Queen Alana will be the first side character who’s actually shady… NOPE. Wrong. Guess what? She’s a good person too, she’s just also got trauma. How surprising… Adam, the guy who summoned the demon invasion, apparently he has understandable motives, even if the way he did it was literally monstrous. He’s looking for his daughter! He’s not THAT bad… geez give me a break.

Other annoyances like this one MC comment: “Didn’t take you for the mother type.” That’s a helluva thing to say to woman you don’t really know, even if she’s some kind of beastkin fox. You never know what someone struggles with. Just because you don’t see kids, doesn’t mean there’s not a story behind that. But of course it’s fine! Cause the author writes it that way.

The new lore on the difficulty to change classes doesn’t fit from the first book with that guy and his team she met in the telian dungeon. He commented on considering changing his class after seeing MCs build. He didn’t directly say it was easy, but he made it seem like it wasn’t a big deal. Now it is a big deal.

Another tendency of repetitive writing I’ve noticed is how often the MC faces off against a truly overwhelming opponent (even though regularly beating beings 200-300 levels above her own), but in every case, and multiple times in this book, she retreats and promises to return someday when she’s stronger. Well, we did get her return on one of these MANY promises in a short episode in this book. Despite it being obvious to the reader who this big bad was from the beginning, she didn’t realize it until she fought the dude. Casually carved him up. Feel like the writing really failed to deliver on the payoff of that fight.

This has been a very negative review, I want to say what it is I like, but it all has caveats. I like the MCs build and power set, but with the ash limbs she makes, I feel like there’s lots of missed opportunities for some really cool ideas. Like maybe a giant pair of scissors to cut some enemy in half? Nah, claws, thorns, and spears are about all she does with it. That said, I don’t mind she is virtually unkillable, by anything under 600 at least. Being OP is part of this genre, it’s not a bug unless every fight is easy.

Why read the next one? Well it’s free on kindle u, that’s one point in its favor. The next is I just keep waiting for some big storyline that always feels just around the corner. I would give the author props for this if I thought it was intentional.

This series is 2.5 stars for me. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who isn’t bored and hasn’t read all the great and good series in this genre.

Book 4 of Azarinth Healer is an absolute blast—equal parts chaotic fun, heart-pounding action, and deeply satisfying character growth. Watching Ilea continue to evolve is like watching lightning in a bottle: unpredictable, powerful, and impossible to look away from.

This installment builds on everything that makes the series great—Rhaegar's signature blend of LitRPG mechanics, irreverent humor, and surprisingly emotional depth. But what really makes Book 4 shine is how much Ilea grows. She’s no longer just the scrappy adventurer who stumbled into power; now she’s deliberate, thoughtful, and learning to wield her strength with more purpose. That doesn’t mean she’s lost her chaotic edge (thank the gods!)—she’s still tearing through enemies and making wild decisions—but you feel the maturity creeping in, and it’s earned.

The world continues to expand in awesome, lore-rich ways, introducing new factions, broken systems, and terrifying power players. Yet even amidst all the escalating danger, it’s the relationships that anchor the story. The camaraderie, the banter, and the way Ilea’s presence reshapes everyone around her—it makes for a story that’s not just about leveling up, but about belonging.

Book 4 is easily one of the most fun reads in the series so far, and it left me itching for more. Ilea is a powerhouse protagonist—flawed, hilarious, and dangerously overpowered—and her journey is only getting better with each book.

OKAY, OKAY, FINE... HAVE ANOTHER STAR.

I was fairly certain after finishing Book Three of Azarinth Healer that the series would forever remain a strong Four Star read. I said as much in my review, after all.

So having my words thrown in my face in the very next installment was a pretty great surprise.

Rhaegar might have taken a bit of time for everything to click, but Book Four is where everything finally comes together to launch Ilea into 'unforgettable protagonist' status. On the back of what is essentially a kaiju... while fighting another kaiju.

The one thing I'll say for fairness here, is that the prose isn't necessarily at a Five Star level. Azarinth Healer coasts to Five Stars out of sheer awesomeness, enough of it that those weaknesses I thought would keep it from going beyond my previous ratings were essentially drowned out.

Whether you're a fan of LitRPG or not, for me this series has quickly grown into one of my all-time favorite action-oriented sagas, and I highly recommend giving it a try. It's good from Book One - and apparently, just keeps getting better.

Now onwards to Book Five in what has become a series binge read!

I received a free review copy of this book from Portal Books.

The first 3 books in this series are really good so the expectations for this 4th volume are high--and Rhaegar has easily surpassed them. This book is fantastic. Early in the book Ilea, the MC, connects with friends in the south and there's a lot of feel-good interpersonal stuff that helps develop the characters. This is really nice since Ilea is normally so focused on gaining levels and hitting and killing monsters that seeing her softer side really makes her more 3-dimensional. On the other hand, the intense monster filled dungeon dive that takes place across over 600 pages is even better. Both with a team and going solo, Ilea is a force of nature. And the end of the dungeon dive is truly epic as Ilea goes where no human has gone before. At nearly 1,000 pages this book is also a force of nature and a really fun and enjoyable one. Best book in the series!

Adrenaline junkie with no plot or character development.

Ilea is the definition of "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger," but in book 4 that's all there is, just a series of tests where she gets close to death and then gets stronger. There's no purpose to it, no development of her character, no meaningful interactions with other characters, and no overarching plot development. Andrea Parsneau is a great audiobook voice artist but she can't make up for the main character spending the last third of the book one-on-one with a creature that has no meaningful ability to communicate and doesn't contribute to the plot.

I like the LitRPG genre and people often recommend this series to readers looking for a woman as the main character. Nothing about Ilea as a character is coded as a woman. After four books she doesn't have much of a personality or character at all. Just one fight after another. I think that's it for me with this series.

Book: Azarinth Healer: Book 4
Author: Rhaegar

NO SPOILERS.

I really enjoy this series. Love it actually. But Book 4 did something with Ilea that I didn't see coming. I got tired of her power-hungry craze.

If you are this far in the series, than you enjoy reading it. Like I do. So when I say that most of Book 4 was spent powering up, it shouldn't be a bad thing. But it was. Most of the story felt like a setup to what's to come. But a story path truly didn't develop, so let's just have Ilea fight anything and everything.

We got time to catch up with old friends. But those interactions were rushed. Glozed over. While a "big bad" event did occur in the "story", it just didn't feel fleshed out enough.

Will still continue with the series, just disappointed Book 4 didn't work me.

I really like the direction the storyline is taking and look forward to the next parts. I'm enjoying immensely that there are more and more global events beyond the here and now, and discovering how the world is changing and what influenced those changes. I'm glad that it's still a LIT RPG with a lot of potential for character development. The descriptions of battles are not yet overwhelming, and there are welcome plot summaries from places where sticking to repetitive details would generate boredom. I'm quietly hoping that the hero will visit earth again and we'll learn more about the manna mechanics of this world and the acquisition of new skills. I also miss some references to science-based technologies.

Simply amazing

A great continuation of the series, with many subtle edits across the entire book vs. the original release with only 1 or 2 plot-error typos along with 2 (spotted and reported on KU, so hopefully it'll be fixed!) errors with grammar/punctuation.

My third time reading through this part of the story (or maybe 4th? 🤔) and I loved it just as much - if not moreso - than every other time. Except the first. Probably.

Regardless. This story has been such a huge inspiration for so many writers and now-popular authors over the past 5-7 years. It's been great seeing Rhaegar to continue to engage with the story, making the edits, and publishing as a collection of books. I'm stoked for the polished story book 5 will bring and however many more come after that!

The story continues with Ilea continuing to foster a desire to grow in power. She has returned from the North and is happy to see her old friends. After spending some time getting involved in southern politics and helping some neighboring cities, she returns to the North as the Fire Fox calls for help, and into the Decent.

The Decent is almost near death and she finds out a ton not only about her potential but also the start of the world. She fights some of the most dangerous creatures she has ever come across including a monster over level 1K.

The story drags at points but over is good. I am still interested to see where it goes. I did like that the focused on the story and not any side spicier content. From that perspective this might be one of the better books in the series.

This one was fun! Also, five stars specifically because of how the big thing at the end is handled. I have almost never read a book where the biggest issue that books can address isn't a disappointment. I'm talking about the bigger than us things like the moment someone gets to talk to the God or Biggest Being in the storyline, or discover the meaning of life, or learn how the universe was made or where we came from. A lot of books handle it by not handling it. There's a big buildup but then the answers are nonexistent, mysterious, questions to answer questions, or they are just unimaginative or anticlimactic or disappointing. I was not disappointed with the Big Questions here. I think the whole "bigger than us" thing was handled well and I just needed to take a moment to say that.

Lacking, if you want a story. Otherwise, it's like a player that avoids any main quest and goes murderhobo on all sidequests.

There's very little room for breathing and creating pace or tension, fight-rest-fight-eat-fight.

It got boring, mostly fighting monsters 200+ levels over MC without any real risk made it feel pointless. There was never really any threat and MC always has a HoT running and uses that to heal and upgrade defences against all damage and then goes a psycho and enjoying smashing the hearts of others they fight.

A drug addict chasing the next high and expects they'll OD at some point and then try to go clean.

The Audiobook edition is not listed here on GR.

I like this series. I enjoy this writer's work (and the narrator as well). However, it seems the writer was unwilling to edit or at least leave some creatures for another edition. The entire segments in the lower levels of the descent could have been left on the editing floor and the experience would have been better for it. At some point, it slowed the pace of the story too much.

That being said, I appreciate the tasteful way recaps and most stat checks are presented in story form instead of straight recitation (although there is a bit of that monotony here as well common to the genre).

More awesomeness

Read it on patreon/ royalroad twice. But the remaking book form is just as good if not better. These are awesome books in this series. I love Lilith and the way she progresses her gumption and desire to improve. Quite crazy really I guess that's the point. I hope the conversion for the next book doesn't take quite as long because I'm already jonesing for the next chapter. But knowing that the books are a rewrite and a cleanup I'll wait and not skip back to Royal.

Fantastic

Undoubtedly, another fantastic addition to the series with a good amount of slice of life as well as some absolutely amazing action in the second half of the book. The main character as always is incredibly enjoyable as well as absolutely insane in a very fun way. I know the thing I liked about this Book and addition to the series is that it gives hints to a much broader outlook in the future and even stronger enemies.

I eagerly await book 5 in the future, and I really hope it comes soon because this was a really incredible journey.

Fourth book in a fantasy LitRPG series with light isekai and system elements. One of the very few LitRPG series I have read with a female protagonist. Ilea comes back to the South to visit all her friends and complete a few tasks. Then she goes back to the North to help out with a problem there and problem takes up most of the book. There is a lot of grinding and training in the last half of the book which I liked. We get more answers to some big questions and Ilea keeps progressing. I'm still loving this series and wish more was available at this time.

What a story again! For me a real pageturner.
What I enjoy most is when the book switches shortly towards another character view to see how the characters perceive Ilea. I am curious how far she can grow, will she get her third class, will she visit earth again and perhaps also curious if there will be a little romance in the next part.

Ilea sometimes feels overpowered in the battles but at the end it shows that there are beings far more powerfull then she is. The book is almost 1000 pages but every page feels like an adventure!

I'll still stick with the series but it is more of background noise at this point. The formula is as follows.

Girl has good attitude (super likeable in the first part of the first book).
Girl likes fighting
Girl likes defense
Girl likes food
Did I mention Girl likes turning off pain receptors and advancing defense skills?
Girl fights with nothing at stake.
Girl fights some more.

It doesn't even have very interesting skill system like Primal Hunter, Craddle or Defiance of the Fall, sorta like pokemon, fire, mind, etc.

Anyway, I hope there is more character in the next one.

Awesome LitRPG

This book is truly awesome. Watching Ilea continue to grow more powerful and outpace her peers, pushing herself beyond her limits is truly amazing. One of the concepts I truly enjoy about LitRPG is learning the backstory of the universe/world/realm the main character finds themselves. In this particular case learning more about the background of the Azarinth Order and more details about the world lore, the missing sun, and discovering even more powerful entities makes one hunger for more of the story. Looking forward to reading the booth #5. 😁
