"The part I hated most about my miserable existence – the bedroom. I hated the way he demanded sex just about every night, forced me into perverted positions and the fact that he was insatiable. Hated the way he roughed me up during sex, grabbed my hair, twisted my neck, the way his hand fastened around my throat while thrusting vigorously into me, the way he took total control over my body and my soul and dominated me in the harshest possible way, the way he demanded I orgasm in record time, then got irritated when I didn’t, the way I had to fake it just to please him, the way I broke down and cried in the bathroom so many times after sex with him, the man I had chosen to have and to hold."
NB: This book is about domestic abuse, abuse and contains strong language, violence and sexual violence.

Eve Rabi is the author of 29 crime and suspense novels, three screenplays and more than half a dozen short stories. Inspired by the likes of Sidney Sheldon and Gillian Flynn, her tales are bold, scandalous, controversial. They’re also peppered with romance and humor. To quote an Amazon reviewer: “When you pick up an Eve Rabi book, forget sleep. She writes gripping page turners that will keep you reading till the very end.” In her spare time, Eve likes to dance like no one is watching. In fact, she also likes to eat like no one is watching.

I can't believe how bad this was. I first thought maybe this was Eve Rabi first book and so I was going to say it was a good effort and maybe an extra star but after a quick look I discover she's written quite a few so I don't understand why this book has been written so badly. This book was written like a shopping list of events, there was no depth to the characters, no drama or suspense, It should have had me on the edge of my seat, I should have been balling my eyes out over poor Sasha but barely a tear was shed. Too many details were skipped over, if the author had just spent a little more time in describing how the characters felt and what was going on around them a bit more this would have been a good read. I can only be thankful it was a short, free read :-(
This is not one of those tales where the hero seeks revenge on the heroine, falls in love with her and seeks redemption. Instead, the plot, which is a cracking good read, has elements of a thriller, although it does contain some sweet romance. The main focus of the novel is how a sociopathic man seeks revenge on his wife who leaves him after he subjects her to emotional and physical abuse.
In You Will Pay, Arena, a young South African woman, is married to Tom, a rich Australian. He undermines her confidence and subjects her to increasing levels of abuse. When this abuse turns more physical, she resolves to leave him and file for divorce on grounds of abuse. Despite Tom’s chilling words that he will hurt her in such a way that she will never recover and she will suffer every day, she finds a modest apartment of her own and gets her life back and even finds a new man. Tom appears to have backed off and is cooperative over the split. Yet it all appears too easy…….
One day Arena finds herself in a nightmare situation and is again rendered powerless and vulnerable. She is sure that Tom is behind it, yet she has no proof. She suffers greatly for something she suspects that he is responsible for and must remain strong if she is to get her revenge and outwit a man who has all the cards stacked in his favour.
This tale contains violence, domestic and child abuse and I found it to be an intense read, with some really dark moments. However, there are scenes of hope, such as when Arena flees Tom and gets her life back together. There are also some moments of happiness and humour, from her relationship with the new man in her life, Bear, and from her new friend Soong. I liked the way Arena carefully plots and executes her escape, showing that she is a strong woman, despite Tom’s efforts to subjugate her. I was with her all the way through the dark times in the book and was satisfied with the outcome which is told in Eve Rabi’s unique and indomitable style!
Tom is a truly evil man and to elaborate any further on his deeds would ruin the story for those of you who want to read it. With the character of Tom, the author gets into the psyche of many abusers. Tom clearly relishes the control he wields over Arena and enjoys her pain, physical and emotional, a mark of a true sociopath. Bear, Arena’s new man, is an adorable character, who clearly loves her and shows it in some tender and romantic scenes. He has secrets of his own and it is those secrets that come into their own as the plot unravels. Soong, the young mother and Arena’s neighbour, also proves to be a loyal friend. Both Bear and Soong inject some humour and lightness into the plot.
Overall You Will Pay is an engrossing read, which I stayed up until the early hours to finish, holding my breath at the awesome ending. This read was a lot darker than Burn’s World and even Gringa, the other books I have read by the author. It contains what I am beginning to recognise as Eve Rabi’s trademarks: strong heroines who find the resources to cope with what life throws at them; characters and plots which stray into activities that are not always within the law and dark themes and (sometimes) humour. I recommend it to readers who enjoy an intense and unique emotional ride that will stay with you a long time after you have read it.
A new author for me, I'm pleased to have found her. This story (was it a story? God it felt real!) had me gripped! Written in the first person it felt like a real account of her horrific life.
Ultimately it was a story of survival and nothing beats a strong, determined heroine at any cost. I was completely routing for her!
A quick, well written book with unfortunately a shitty cover and title. This book's going to be missed by many readers put off by those two (somewhat) crucial details at the point of sale.
First read for me by this author. I liked the idea of the story, an abused wife getting revenge on her abusive husband but the plot had too many holes in it for me to become really gripped. It had me thinking a few times 'as if'. A real abusive husband would not allow his wife and children to leave him and then make no contact for six months. Other aspects of the story seemed far fetched and a certain character was thrown in out of the blue which didn't really make much sense. However, it picked up more towards the end and I did like how her husband got his come uppance. If the author had fleshed this out more and explanded on some characters and made it a longer book, it could have been a lot better. OK for a freebie though.
You Will Pay is about a woman named Arena who is trapped in an abusive marriage with Tom, a husband from hell. She finally makes her escape, finds a nice teddy bear of a guy who loves her--for real, the dude's name is Bear. Then her husband returns and seeks revenge in the cruelest fashion imaginable.
But Arena turns the tables on Tom and she gets him in the end! And how! SO vicious and so juicy! This was the book that got me obsessed with Eve Rabi, whose train-wrecky works are such guilty pleasures! Her stories are quick, addictive and intense. This is total brain candy. I feel a true rush when I read her.
If it's one thing that the author is good at, it's writing page turners like this one. The story is almost raw and visceral at times and takes so many twists and turns, I had no idea where it was heading. Such is the author's ability to write of her character's motives in such a real and realistically deceptive way, I actually switched allegiances several times; at some times thinking that one character was the bad guy and then switching again when the character's actions belied their declared intentions. A short book that packs quite the punch!
this book has to be read it was amazing I loved every page, it wasn't what I was expecting it was much better it touched on two very sensitive topics and I think this could make it a difficult read for some but think it could also be quite inspirational.
i can not wait to read more by this author as I was so dissappointed when I got to the last page ! If your debating reading this book you should give it a go I doubt you will put it down.
What a book! This is my first book that I read of Eve Rabi. It leaves you on edge with your heart racing! Its well written and you keep flicking on the pages. You feel as if you are part of the story and will end up crossing your fingers instead of Arena. Felt very satisfied at the end of the story though :)
I'm definitely going to check other books by this author.
This story was about a psychopath, Tom, who married a young girl, Arena, and controlled every move she made. Their relationship was horrible, but Arena made every dumb move imaginable. She kept saying she needed to leave and would then put it off. She ended up bringing a second child into this mess of a life. So many times I got angry at her for her stupidity. If there was a dumb ass award, she would be the winner. I couldn't even hate Tom as much as I should have because of her.
Disappointed.
The only thing I enjoyed was the final revenge. But after what happened to Sasha, I don't think Arena deserved to live happily ever after.
Note: This book is about domestic abuse, abuse and contains strong language, violence and sexual violence. Let me tell you that Eve Rabi KNOWS how to do REVENGE!! YOU WILL PAY gives real, gritty details of abuse and revenge and is not for the faint of heart! That being said, again this is a book of Eve Rabi's that I could NOT put down. There was so much strong emotion it was like a physical work out! My heart was racing at the tense moments, and melting at the tender ones. That is the absolute best thing for me about any author, and Eve Rabi definitely delivers!
This is what I love about Eve Rabi writings. She doesn't the same old romance boy meet girl, girl falls for boy they live happy ever after. No she writes real world relationships. Not all love is beautiful and safe, it can be ugly, violent and tragic. Eve Rabi you just have a fan for life!
When Arena is just eight months pregnant with her first child, Warren, her husband Tom starts hitting her and shoving her into things. Tom is extremely wealthy, overly arrogant, and has this need to put on a show around other people that he is the most amazing and wonderful husband. When people are around, Tom makes a big production out of presenting Arena with lavish gifts and doing sweet things for her. Unfortunately, he isn’t actually like that. After Arena later becomes pregnant and has her second child, Sasha, she decides that she is going to leave Tom and take their kids with her. Arena opens a secret storage unit and starts filling it with expensive items that she purchased with Toms credit cards, so that she can later sell them for money. Eventually, Arena gets her kids away from Tom and moves into an apartment where she soon meets a man named Bear. From here the story takes off and gets very exciting. Arena is deciding if she can trust Bear, and Tom starts causing SERIOUS issues.
I read this book in half a day (don’t tell my boss ;) ), and I don’t think I could have put it down if I tried. I have only read one other story that had domestic abuse going on in it, and it has never really been a story that I go to for a read. I mean really…it’s DEPRESSING. So when I started reading this I thought to myself: Self, just f*****g read it. So I read it, and I was actually very surprised with the direction the story went. Arena ACTUALLY removed herself and her kids from the abusive relationship, but then so many different strange and chaotic things start happening. I cannot tell you how many times I said WTF to myself as I read this book, which I think is always good if you are a reader. Whether you are saying it for good or bad reasons, the fact that the author has actually stirred some emotions in you is a PLUS. The story went from one crazy event to another, keeping me on edge and needing to know how Arena was going to fix things. I do wish the use of “baby” between Bear and Arena wasn’t repeated so much because it loses its sweetness when they say it in every sentence. The character of Arena was a bit bland for me at the beginning of the story, and I didn’t start to actually feel a personality with her towards the end when she was framing Tom. She started out being so simple and reserved, and then she turned into a sarcastic twisted character. I like to be connected with the main characters, whether I love them or I loathe them, being emotionally invested in who the story centers around is one of the most important things to me. Therefore I would have liked to see a little bit more character development with her. A GREAT thing about Eve Rabis’ writing in this book is that everything flows and keeps moving. I didn’t get bored or skip through lines once while reading, it had a nice continuous grab on me the entire time.
So if you are like me and don’t normally read this kind of story, I think you should give it a try! There is WAY more going on than some guy hitting his wife and scaring his kids because he’s a lunatic. The author keeps you both ENTHRALLED and ENTERTAINED until you finish the story and realize you must have more. But don’t you worry, there is a second book! - One Way or Another: You Will Pay.
The ex husband was a monster who made Michael Myers look like an angel. I’m glad she left him and was able to avenge her daughter but I cannot believe how stupid she was by leaving her baby in the car to go buy stuff, who does that? 😐
I happened upon Eve Rabi by chance--and I'm extremely glad that I did. The vengeful plot in You Will Pay For Leaving Me is full of unpredictable turns. I was shocked and surprised and in suspense ...the character development was done well, and I like that the story is not all about the sex. This is not erotica. Though, with the cover, that is what I thought I was getting into--so you really can't judge by the cover. This is a dark and mysterious female journey where we see the week and fearful victim grow in strength and learn from her mistakes. I am reminded of the dark literature of V.C. Andrews. I can't wait to check out more of her work!
When the cop's backs were turned, he whispered. “I will get you for this. I will hurt you in such a way, you will never recover from it. You will never be the same.” “What? You want to kill me for leaving you, Tom?” “Nope. Want you to live. Hurt every day. Suffer. Wait and see, Arena.” I stopped and looked at him. His eyes were like granite and a chill ran through me. What did he mean?
I can't say when I enjoyed a book so much before! I ended up cheering and pumping my fists in the air. I thought she was a wimp to start with, but she turned into a tigress and I admired the hell out of her come finish
Just the book I needed. I have been looking for an emotional read about a battered wife. This book was what I ordered an them some. Its a quick and free read if that what you are looking for.
I bought this book off Amazon for Kindle as it had so many 5 star reviews. ....I really can't believe these reviews as this book was utter garbage.....one of THE worst books I have ever read.
Frist book I have read by Eve Rabi, it will not be the last one I read. A great book just had to keep reading to see how it ended was shocked that the story continues so got to read,One way or another so looking forward to finding out what happens with Arena, Bear, and Tom.
Bloody hell this book is so intense, dark and twisted, I was instantly hooked and addicted to this could not put it down, this book felt like it was a part of me and I would not stop until I read every single word.
This is such an emotionally draining and horrific story line it is so raw and realistic, it will leave you so numb and lifeless, you will feel anger and pain, sorrow and happiness this book will affect you in one way or another.
Tom is a sadistic Evil vile creature he likes to beat up his wife and takes everything out on her and their son. He forces his wife to do everything he wants. He is slowly destroying her life. It is not enough that he has broken her spirit; he goes one step further by taking everything away from her.
Arena is an amazing women and a fantastic mother, she is a super women and a super hero ( I am women hear me roar). She has endured a life of hell with a monster that treats her like an animal. In order to protect her children she will go to any length to ensure that they are happy and safe, and to keep them away from her evil Husband who she has now left. But Arena will soon learn that crossing Tom was a mistake one she will pay for all her life a mistake that will shatter her heart into a billion pieces that will never be mended EVER.
Bear he is the epitome of a good man, a great and wonderful caring man. Who would give his life to ensure Arena is happy. He welcomes arena and warren into his and amy’s ( Bears Daughter) life with open arms and heart. Things start to get steamy between the too, just as things are going good Disaster strikes when Bear Goes MIA. What is going on is Bear the person arena thought he was or is he a fraud.
This is the first novel I have read by this author.
The storyline is one of domestic abuse so it can be uncomfortable reading in parts.
I really felt for Arena throughout this novel. She has to deal with physical as well as mental abuse from her husband Tom. Eventually she dos manage to get away from him and for a while her life looks set to be a happy one. Unfortunately for Arena, Tom is not one to take things lying down and he is determined to pay Arena back for daring to leave him.
The abuse that Tom causes Arena is nothing to the heartache he causes her trying to get his revenge. Tom really is an evil and vindictive character that I disliked a whole lot. Arena knows he is behind all the bad things that are happening to her but she is struggling to prove it all.
I really did like Arena and could't help but let my heart go out to her for all that Tom had, and was still putting her through. My only issue was that after a heartbreaking incident, Arena became like a whole different person. I found her new found strength slightly unbelievable and as much as I wanted revenge on Tom as much as she did, I did find the whole story line starting to get slightly un realistic but then at the end of the day it is a fiction story.
Overall Payback makes for a quick read that I did enjoy. It does make you question how far you would go to save yourself as well as your children. There is another novel that follows on from this book which I will be very interested to see what the future has in store for the characters.
That I ever made highlights in my e-book while reading, all because I hated the main character that much! Not only does the main character act in illogical ways. But she leaves her poor toddler in the hands of the abuser. Not only does she stay with the villain for far too long, but she even has another child with him. If you don't wish to read about horrible abuses committed on helpless children, I would not read this. Also, there are no real "pay backs" in the end. Not only that, but the dumb M.C. quickly gets into another relationship immediately after leaving the abusive husband. She's almost too stupid to live, to the point I almost switched sides in the middle of the story. Especially after her youngest suffers a most horrible tragedy that could have been prevented but was not. Save the blood pressure and your sanity, and just say no to this one.
This was my first Eve Rabi book & the majority of reviewers had been encouraging but to be honest I was disappointed. If this had been a first book written by a young teen, I would have said not bad for a first novel but this is not the case, apparently Eve Rabi has written at least 26. I didn't fully engage with Arena & I didn't shed tears over the loss of baby, Sasha, not because I am immune to feeling but because I found the characters unconvincing, undeveloped & shallow. That the death / murder of a baby was used in such a superficial way or that the subject of domestic abuse was written about with no real research was insulting. Written in the first person I found the language used to be immature & I didn't appreciate being reminded of things mentioned a few pages ago as though speaking to a 10 yr old. The sex scenes were neither sexy or erotic & more like those written by a young teenager. How this book came to be published or gain any 5* reviews is beyond me.
although a relatively short book, and able to finish it in one day, i have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it and the story never felt rushed or cut short. subject matter was pretty heavy (domestic abuse and violence) and something most of us hopefully will never experience, i couldn't put the book down till i'd finished. i experienced all sorts of emotions reading this book, pain, anger, tears, horror and loved every minute of it it has been said that there is nothing worse than a woman scorned, well maybe a down trodden abused woman can do better. The female character lead in this book, became the strong woman she needed to be, and found out what real love was really like. absolutely loved the outcome of this book, had a great big sigh and smile of satisfaction at the end. you won't be able to read this book without feeling it.
I enjoyed this book. It is a shorter book, I read it in a day. The writing was well done, and the story kept me reading, wanting to know what would happen next. The interaction between the characters was entertaining. There was one thing that I disliked, the last chapter (sort of an epilogue) was too over the top. The way the one character rubs it in the other's face, was just too much for me. Semi-spoiler . I also found the child Warren to be very advanced for his age in language skills, but maybe he was just a really smart kid. I would definitely read other books by this author.
I absolutely loved every second of this book! You can live through the emotions that the characters go through. I was hurt and scared, heartbroken, fell in love, crushed again and again. It was a complete roller coaster ride of emotion. Couldn't put it down! It's one of those books where you want to know what is going to happen next but you never want it to end. This is the first of Eve's books that I have read and now I want to read them all! This book is very inspiring and hits on one important issue, domestic violence. I wish this was something I could have read before I faced a similar situation, I would have taken many of the steps Arena did. This book could be a life-saver for many women in the same situation! Much <3 to this author.
