SHE DOESN'T LIVE IN A HAUNTED HOUSE. THE MONSTER IS ALREADY INSIDE HER HEAD.
Chester is no stranger to hearing voices, but after her mother disappears without a trace, the demonic voice trying to consume her is getting stronger every day.
The threat of possession might be her biggest problem, but it's not her only one. Chester's confidence in the stepmother who is trying to keep her safe is now unstable. The safe and comfortable connection with her very supportive stepbrother is slowly becoming a tangled mess that threatens their strong bond.
When Chester stumbles on her mother's precious journal, she hopes to find some answers about what's happening to her. But what she really wants to uncover is how to find her missing mother. And the answer to that mystery might come from the most unexpected source. Herself.
Yolanda Sfetsos has once again beautifully captured the angst and fear of teenagers experiencing and coming to understand the supernatural events their parents have placed them in the middle of.
My name is Yolanda, and I live in Australia. I write horror tales that bleed into other genres. I'm a horror freak from way back and a total bibliophile! I also collect cute stuff, love cozy vibes, and enjoy going for walks.
A chilling tale of possession that weaves through generations, binding a family to an unrelenting cycle of darkness and despair. With its intricate connections to sinister entities and an atmosphere of creeping dread, this story grips the soul and refuses to let go. A must-read for fans of possession-driven narratives and haunting family sagas.
Numb feels almost experimental in the beginning with its little twists and turns, but what I noticed here, or should I say, felt, was a constant tightening of the screw, where each chapter added that little bit more dread to it, and you're just waiting, expecting something terrible to happen, feeling this burden slowly becoming heavier and heavier. It becomes frustrating at times. There is repetition here which works its way into your head. It sort of becomes disorientating and at the same time compelling. A lot of thought has gone into this story. I really appreciated that. Good stuff. Five stars deserved.
This was so creepy! And perfect reading for this season. I read an ARC of this and as soon as it's out officially, I'll read it again, or better yet, save it for Halloween. What I enjoyed most about this book is the atmosphere, the tension and the characters. Yolanda is so very good at creating flawed yet likeable very real people and the plot was clever and great too. Brilliant vivid descriptions. I'm a huge fan of possession in story and film anyway, and this didn't disappoint. It's all darkness, places we fear to tread, our worst nightmares made real and it does leave the reader wondering, what if? The book also has that quality where you must keep reading and I loved the ending too. Every time Yolanda writes a book, I read it and think, this is my favourite for sure. So, until the next book, Numb is now my firm favourite. An excellent read and perfect for spooky season
Sfetsos can't miss, and her aim is laserlike in this amazing possession tale. I especially loved the ending, and I'm hoping to read more of this story soon. Fans of both traditional and contemporary horror will enjoy NUMB immensely.
This novel is my love letter to one of my favourite horror subgenres: demonic possession. Think of The Exorcist meets Supernatural, with a bunch of secrets, as well as a mother & daughter who can't seem to get along. 😈
