The story starts on a very thin plot, but it does develop, although the book seemed long winded and repetitive with not a lot happening for almost half of it . Also, many of the plot lines are not followed through or ever mentioned again; in particular the bombing of the art gallery. It’s very obvious who the baddies are and why they are not taken out, as there are several opportunities in the story to do so, other than the fact the author thought she could get a second book out of it is a shame; and I really don’t think two books are needed, especially if it is as slow and drawn out as this one.
This story had promise and I really wanted to connect with it and it's characters. Unfortunately the story digressed as it continued to unfold. The repetitious lines as well as always addressing the MMC in his first and last name grew frustrating and annoying. I can’t remember skimming the latter portion of a book as much as I skimmed this one.
Eden’s character was a naïve 18 year old girl, but showed strength and character at times as the book progressed. I dislike books that put a very young woman into the role of heroine. She had moments of clarity, but still acted like the young girl she was, who lacked life experiences and maturity. In all fairness to her character she was constantly lied too and given false hope by her father and Nikolai. I stopped counting the times Nikolai told her he would protect her and didn’t.
Nikolai’s character seemed like he knew what he was doing but slowly regressed to a Bratva leader that was being played by his own men throughout the entire book. His trust issues were paramount in book one as he was lied to by his own men. There were too many red flags he refused to investigate as these three men fed him one lie after the other. His need for revenge completely shattered any common sense he possessed while they led he and his Bratva down the Yellow Brick Road. He just didn’t get it.
Lara was a great sub-character, Nikolai's sister. She was a strong female character in a world bathed in a society where men ruled and women were seen but not heard; just second class citizens. This story felt outdated since many authors have elevated women in the Bratva. I still felt like I was going back in time with some of the content in this story. Hopefully book 2 will elevate not only the stature of the women in this book, but will bring Nikolai's character around to facing the truth and exposing the lies.
I seriously felt like this book was a ping pong match and not in a good way. This would have been at home on some daytime soap (and I don’t like those) where we just throw bits and pieces, twists and turns that have no real meaning other than to put the main characters together in a sex scene.
FMC is a doormat who is ruled by a single touch. Why do authors feel the need to portray woman whose only goal in life is to have an orgasm and therefore will agree to anything you want to get one. I mean give her some backbone but not this “oh I hate him” but hey let me ride your …..
Very little is given away as a storyline it’s mostly them getting it on to the point that I just had to skip over those parts. There is such a thing as too much. I felt like that was all padding out the book so there could be another one. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to read the next book or just skim it.
I mean seriously? Goes to a nightclubs and ins recognised instantly when no one has seen her since she was a small baby in her parents arms. She has no phone, no social media but bam she’s the girl we need to take hostage. The pawn. Then held hostage and all you do is want to do is have sex all the time. Blah! She just comes across as the pathetic doormat. And love? Really?
This is unbelievable! It started out so good! An art dealer wanna be boss mob didn’t even do any research or investigating facts. The traitor disappeared for 18 yrs somehow it’s a must die? Made no sense. Terrible book with plenty of holes. Don’t read up!
Unforgiving Sinner Part 1 by Brook Wilder is full of danger, suspense, murder, lies and betrayal as you following the journey between Nikolai, Pakhan of the Starukhin Bratva and Eden who has close ties to the Mafia from her past.
Nikolai's path is a violent one as the leader of the Starukhin Bratva he wants revenge for his brother's death as well as trying to get over the death of his mother. Against his better judgement he doesn't trust his Brigadiers but he gives them the benefit of the doubt even though they are using him.
Eden is a young innocent who has fled her home to be with her cousin in New York as her father is controlling and will not allow her to have a life but Eden doesn't know the secret her father has kept from her all these years and his true identity. Once revealed this will bring her nothing but pain and turmoil. When she encounters Nikolai who helped her from being accosted on the street they form a friendship until things take a turn, When Nikolai is told Eden's identity and that her father is the traitor they seek, he ends up kidnapping her. Eden now sees the darker side to him when she tells him she has no knowledge of her father being a traitor or that he is connected to the Bratva. Now these two will have a battle/conflict of wills as both refuse to give in hoping the other will weaken first. Will he be able to subdue this stubborn young woman or will she continue to fight him when Nikolai finds he is drawn to her.
When she is told she will be his bride she does everything she can to escape him but learns it will be futile as Nikolai will never let her go? The push and pull between these two is dark, raw and intense once they give into their desires. As Eden refuses to believe her father is a traitor she will do everything she can to prove Nikolai wrong. Once her father learns where she is and who has her much chaos and death is brought to Nikolai's doorstep, In order to get his daughter back lives will be destroyed when her wedding is stopped. Nikolai vows to keep Eden safe but when she learns she is pregnant she keeps it from Nikolai . Now her life is in danger when she is taken, will Nikolai get to her in time? What does he do when he learns who took her? So many twists and turns in this story as the Brigadiers close to Nikolai have been manipulating him, placing both Nikolai and Eden in danger as they will soon learn they are are part of a bigger picture as they are being used by the Bratva and the Mafia as sins from the past are out to destroy them. Will Eden's father help Nikolai or destroy him? How will Eden handle the truth about her mother? Now we are left with one explosive cliffhanger as we have to wait for Unforgiving Saint part 2 of this duet.
Eden is a sheltered 18 year old girl with an overprotective father who won’t let her do anything and after sneaking out to her friends party he shows up and embarrasses her again and she knows he is keeping secrets but he won’t tell her so she flees in the night to NYC and her cousin Mercy. On her very first night a man tried to accost her and a handsome man named Nikolai saves her and slips his card in to her art book (he owns an art gallery). However he is bratva the gallery just a front to launder money but he does love art and knows what he is doing and he also just became the Pakhan after his father’s death and poor Nikolai holds all the guilt for his mother & brother’s deaths. I do like Eden & Nikolai together and yes she does act very immature at times but hey she is 18 and led a sheltered life so she will be immature and naive. Her father and Nikolai claim to want to protect her but their lies just make her angry and to be fair in more danger and neither one has stepped up yet as she was even taken by Nikolai’s own men so where is that so called protection he keeps saying he will give her. One thing that stopped me giving this book a 5 star rating is the 3 brigadiers and Nikolai’s response to them. He is the Pakhan and he takes orders from them?? Errr No. He lets them off the hook after they take Eden and doesn’t question her or them on what they did or said to her. He allows them to lie to him and keep their secrets and they openly disobey his orders, I have read many many bratva books and Nikolai is the first Pakhan to never react, hurt or kill them for their disobedience. Sorry but that there shows his weakness and that he isn’t Pakhan material, with or without Eden in his life a real bratva Pakhan would have had them taken to a warehouse and made them tell him their secrets. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the 3 brigadier’s did something to her father which led to her parents running 18 years ago. I think one or all 3 of them had something to do with his brother Matvei’s death and that’s why they need to kill her Dad so he can’t spill it. They thought they would take over the bratva from his Dad and never thought Nikolai had the spine to lead them and to be fair he doesn’t as no real Pakhan would tolerate their insubordination. Let’s see what book 2 brings as that ending was very good and her Dad will be devastated after what he just did.
Good start to the duet. I liked Eden, she was so naive, but that wasn’t her fault. Her father kept her in the dark about so many things & she had no clue who he really was. But the more time she spent w/Nikolai the more of a backbone she developed. I loved seeing her standing up to him & not backing down so easily, but the one thing I didn’t like was when she kept the biggest secret f/him. He had a right to know & that’s one thing I don’t like in books, I don’t like when the woman refuses to tell the guy she’s pregnant. I started suspecting around 50% who Eden really was & who her family was. As much as I liked Nikolai, I didn’t think he was a strong pakhan in the beginning. He allowed his brigadiers to control everything & he had no control over some of his men. It was around 80% when I thought finally! Nikolai’s balls have finally dropped & he’s seeing his brigadiers may not be being honest or trustworthy. The ending had me holding my breath & I can’t wait to see how everything turns out. These two have a connection, & good chemistry, so I’m definitely rooting for them!
Nicholai is the brooding, reluctant Pakhan who was never meant to be in that position. Only after the death of his brother did he get thrust into it. Eden bursts into his life, bringing him a little joy until the bitter realisation that she's the daughter of a man he's honour bound to kill.
So here we have a Montague/Capulet situation, only with a lot of guns instead of swords. Eden is an idealistic girl who knows absolutely nothing of the world, thanks to the stranglehold on her freedom courtesmy of her father. Unbeknownst to her, her whole life is a lie & she's in for the rudest possible awakening.
Everything so far has been highly entertaining, even if Eden's a bit hard to swallow. I veer between "ah, bless" & "get a grip, you idiot!". I'm having a hard time imagining a man like Nicholai being interested in a girl who clearly doesn't know her A from her E! But that's the beauty of these types of stories - they exist outside of reality & offer us ample time to escape our own heads, just for a while.
Very intriguing start for Eden and Nikolai! I was hooked from the beginning and liked both characters.
Eden is young and she comes across as very naive. She is quite sweet though and I really enjoyed her character. I liked that no matter what she still wanted to see the good in Nikolai.
I don't remember seeing an age for Nikolai but he came across as very immature. He made a lot of choices that he should have known better. Even though he wasn't supposed to be in this role, he still grew up in this life and should have made smarter decisions. Including listening to Larissa!
I really enjoyed Larissa and Mercy's characters. They added a fun and feminine feel to the story.
This was an exciting story that read at a quick pace because I just needed to know what happens! There were a few twists that kept me entertained all the way through. I can't wait to start the next book and see how everything plays out!
Spent three days trying to get my brain to focus on this book but just couldn't and had to DNF. I had some problems with the first series I read by the author because frankly, the characters' back and forth in that book was annoying and it was here as well.
I felt like the characters were getting somewhere with their relationship at one point then all of a sudden they decided they hated each other again. She runs off to his sister's house, gets kidnapped by higher ups and the MMC doesn't punish them at all. Nor does he punish his BIL, who happily gave her to the bad guys. I know that the MMC didn't really want to be boss but the way he let his men manipulate his thoughts was just too much for me. I tried to hold on and keep going but when Gunsyn showed up and basically convinced him he needed to kill her even though it was obvious she knew nothing was too much.
Both series by the author have been a pretty big bust for me so I don't think I'll be searching her out in the future.
Eden and Nicolei’s story was incredibly wrote and kept you on the edge at all times with the plots and twists. The trust you empower in a Bratva is a must and when there are people that betray you it can send your life in a chaotic spiral. This is what happened with Eden and Nicolei. People that Nicolei entrusted betrayed him to try to ruin everything and because of his own pain he didn’t know who to trust. Book one takes you on a very wild ride and has you almost ready to find these people yourself. Brook did an incredible job with book 1. Does include a cliffy which I have a love/hate relationship with. Thankfully I was able to read both together and not have to wait.
To kill or not to kill! This book was wayyyy too long (can’t believe there is a need for another book!) the MC went over the same problem again and again… your family killed my mum, your family killed my brother… and on and on and on! Nikolai is a weak pakhan that no one respects! Eden is weak but develops a backbone over time, until she is pregnant!! The whole blurb of the book is completed within 10% of the book then after it’s the classic vendetta, enemies who can’t keep their hands to themselves! The writing style is not bad but this should have been concluded in one book Won’t bother reading the sequel
This mafia romance is so very interesting, suspenseful and intriguing. Nikolai and Eden are fascinating and passionate characters. Both of them are coming to terms with grief, guilt and revenge. Through a forced marriage they discover that both have need for one another. Their loyalties will be tested as they embark on a relationship with many obstacles in their way. So if you’re looking for a mafia romance that is highly entertaining and engaging you will be delighted with Nikolai and Eden’s enticing, alluring and remarkable story.
This book started pretty good and things started well. But then, it just stretched out way too long.
Editing-wise it was OK. I didn't come across any blatant issues that pulled me out of the story.
Story-wise, it just slowed way down after a while. Nothing was happening, and their inner thoughts became repetitive.
My issue was why she seemed so shocked and upset that their engagement was to lure out her father. They pretty much told her that from the beginning. She knew the wedding wasn't initially because he had feelings for her.
I will be continuing the story into the next book, and would recommend it.
The girl is 18, she’s barely out of high school and the male protagonist is 28-29. I cannot wrap my head around that for one minute. Not one person in the book demands the girl be released. She’s literally a kid who doesn’t know the world. He wanted to marry a teenager. Nikolai fell in love with a teenager. It’s a little dragged, and I felt a lot of the plot coming before hand. Again, I cannot get over the fact that the protagonist is only 18 and no one warn the guy against it. I didn’t like it as much as I wanted to like it.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Eden had no idea what was about to happen when she left home. She thought she was finally getting a little taste of freedom, but she had no idea what she was in for. Nikolai wants his revenge no matter what it takes but things start to change the longer Eden is around. Something neither expects starts to take place and danger isn't very far behind them. Well written and entertaining.
What an amazing start to this duet! I was captivated from beginning to end and honestly I can’t wait to dive into the conclusion! Nikolai and Eden two people you would definitely not think to be together but somehow these two just got. This story runs deep and there are definitely things working in the background. You don’t know who you can trust but Nikolai knows one thing about giving off those touch her and die vibes and I am here for it!!
I love the couple dynamic in this book, but I also hate the cliffhanger at the end, even though there is another book immediately out for me to read. Nikolai and eden are a perplexing and abnormal couple, but also Romeo and Juliet. The Starcross lovers story is always one of my favorites, and this one seems to have plenty of suspense and action to go with the love affair. Now on to the second book after a big crescendo and cliffhanger.
Eden has always resented the fact that her father was so strict. It was like he tried to keep her hidden from the world, always telling her it was too dangerous. So she runs away and ends up in the hands of the very Bratva her father betrayed. If Eden's dad had told her what he was keeping her safe from then maybe they wouldn't be in an all out war. This is book one and it ends con a heart stopping cliffhanger.
Absolutely a great book, but it could have been finished in one book. I can only assume more cat and mouse, in addition to, lack of communication by both lead characters. She is only 18 which justifies most of her childish behavior. A few conversations could have cleared up 90% of the complications. I will read book 2, but I was already skipping parts in book 1 as it dragged on so I am sure I will do that for book 2 also.
Eden is smothered at home with her over protective dad. She runs away and gets into trouble pretty much straight away. She meets handsome stranger Nikolai but he isn’t who she thought he was. Now in more danger, she needs to know the truth before it’s too late. He has danger closer than he thought and once the truth is revealed, he will stop at nothing to get justice
Received this as an ARC So far this have been a great read. Although Eden is young and has been kept in the dark she is strong. Nickoli it caught between his guilt and what he thinks is right for very how he feels about Eden. Who do you trust? There is more than what meets the eye as we dive deeper into old secrets. Now off to read the conclusion
This book had me at the edge of my seat I found it hard to put down I love the duel point if view. The chapter are the ideal length. The story line well one word WOW its so exilerating and suspenseful Eden is a strong woman and nikoli is strong hearted man but is also a wee bit foolish. Now on to book 2
The book started out good then the middle became really boring and picked up towards the end. I felt the author needed to make this two books so it a lot of fluff. Why do we need three pages describing an art piece? I’m invested now so I’ll get book 2 but hopefully it keep my interest better than book 1.
I liked the plot and the mcs but some of the plot was never explain who did it and why. They just make you guess. I found this book to repetitive. The first have of the boom is a bit boring… maybe cause I’m not into art that much… maybe that’s why. It gets better and you want to know what’s next.
What rubbish was this? Sooo poorly written! And the dialogue! Yikes! Freaking nonsensical, an absolute ridiculous. The story was a good idea, but dear God can someone else write it? And age up of the characters. This book needs to complete overall.
DNF, She is 18 years old and it sounds like he has to at least be in his mid 30's. I realized 18 is age of consent but it felt super gross and WTH, someone recognized her without knowing anything about her, her name, her dads name, nothing, they just looked at her and said "ya, thats dude's daughter" like what if they were wrong. Too much shark jumping for me.
Oh my goodness! Right from the beginning, starting with the Prologue, I was intrigued. The twists and turns and the anticipation kept me hooked. I loved seeing Eden and Nikolai fall in love. You just keep rooting for them no matter what the obstacle!
