Rate this book
They say never give up on your dreams, but what do you do when going after your biggest dream might destroy the most important relationship in your life?

Jax Kennedy has only ever loved one woman—his longtime best friend, Kate Owens. They’ve been inseparable since childhood, and his feelings for her have deepened with each passing year. Fortunately, his consulting job has kept him out of the city, making their friendship long-distance and allowing him to conceal his feelings through phone calls.

Their relationship has thrived with nightly phone calls and occasional visits. However, when Kate decides she’s tired of being single and wants to try online dating, Jax realizes that her settling down with someone else will inevitably change their relationship forever.

Unfortunately, Jax believes a family curse has plagued the Kennedy men, preventing them from having lasting relationships. So while he is not ready to let Kate go, he fears that pursuing her comes with too much risk. Despite being determined to avoid the Kennedy fate, he can’t help questioning everything as Kate searches for love.

Can Jax really take a chance on his dream when it could mean losing Kate forever?

ARC (Advanced Readers Copy) This was my first book to read of hers and I loved it!!!! Will be going back and reading more from this author. Such a cute story and adored how these best friends (male and female) stayed friends while growing up and navigating life. “Unputdownable” is how I would best describe this book!!!

I have been waiting for this book since I read about Kate in the other books. I love friends to lovers and with the lengthy history between Kate and Jax made for the perfect story. There's something about @larissa_hommes writing that always pulls me into the books, and this one is no different. I loved the whole series (I read the other 2 books last year) and can't wait to read her future books!

Favorite moments:
scary movie

🌙 The vibes:
- dual pov
- Best friends since childhood
- Book 3 in series; can be standalone
- Closed door

✨ My thoughts:
Going into this, I was really hoping for a light and fun read because I had read several heavy/ sad books before this one. This book was definitely what I needed.

✨ Things I liked: Seeing Kate start to have feelings for Jax was really fun. I liked to see her personality really shine in those flirty, fun moments. I also loved the entire concept of Kate’s hobbies being valid even if they aren’t “fun” by societies standards. The vacation scenes were my favorite parts of the book, and Daniel with his WISDOM and much needed voice of reason was great.

✨ The main concept that had me conflicted was that yes these two are childhood friends and best friends as adults but yall. These two had sleepovers from kids to teens. There’s cuddling, holding hands, talking for hours every single night before bed, vacations, etc…. They are MAJORLY attached in all the ways I would not consider platonic. It gives me a little bit of the ick when characters express that this “platonic” friendship will always come above a relationship. So this is probably a ME problem here. But even though I did have a hard time with these little elements, I do think the ending worked for them and made this set up work.

✨ I think a lot of readers will love this one! The writing was fun and there were a lot of little things in this one that I really enjoyed. If you love a best friends to lovers with the elements I mentioned above, I think you would really enjoy this one.

✨ My final comment- there’s a lot of High School Musical 3 comments and mentions. So if you were a fan of those movies and Zac Efron in general (oh hi, it me), then I think you’ll really like all of those moments between these two.

Note- closed door.

Friends to Lovers is such a cute trope. Kate & Jax have been best friends since 3rd grade. They do EVERYTHING together and even talk every night on the phone. Kate is sick of being single so she wants to start dating. I know from experience that dating your best guy friend can go 2 different ways. Either you get together and hit it off romantically and stay together forever OR you date and realize you’re better off friends and quite possibly ruin the friendship you two have built. Unfortunately, mine was the second one and I regret it to this day dating him. So, seeing how close Jax and Kate were had me feeling sort of torn. How can someone be THAT close and date someone else and that other person be okay with it? But also how do you risk it all to see if you have romantic feelings for each other, is it worth it? Seeing it all play out with a different ending than mine was so sweet and 100% worth it. Jax is a total girls guy and normally that’s not my type of MMC but he won me over. He was just so sweet and attentive to Kate. They could talk about anything and do absolutely nothing and be okay with it because they were together. It really reminded me so much of my husband and I. Hmmmm… I guess I did marry my best friend after all 😉 Jax and Kate had me so frustrated at times but also swooning so hard. I just love their love as friends and even more as a couple. They really were together all these years just without the label 🥹 My heart is so happy after finishing this book. Thank you Larissa for finishing and publishing it🫶

Call It A Night is a swoon-worthy, agonizing, endearing, touching, heartwarming, adorable, funny, beautiful, and incredibly unique book! This sweet rom com is the third book in the incredible Love At Night Series which can all be read as standalones. I have been anticipating Kate & Jax's story for months......and it exceeded my expectations! This book is an easy 11/10! Despite my love for all of the author's book this childhood best friends to lovers romance might be my all time favorite! I simply relate to Kate with her homebody preferences, aversion to online dating, insecurities, love of reminiscing memories, adoration of those she loves, and romantic heart too much! Add that with Jax's "girls' guy" behavior, secret pinning, heartthrob....everything 😍, and putting her needs above his own and it is almost too much to handle! Plus high school musical and Bridgeton references?! I just love this book!

There is so much to adore about this story, but here are a few intriguing plot points! Jax & Kate talk on the phone every night....literally every night and spend every free moment they can together. Kate joins an online dating app experiencing some award winning worst date stories. Jax had a rough homelife and believes he carries a family curse which ensures any romantic relationship he has will fail. Kate and Jax share so many memories, but each have secret details they didn't share! This book is so phenomenal and showcases unconditional love beautifully!

I completely adored Jax and Kate! After getting a glimpse of them in Book 2 (and Cannon totally clocking in on Jax’s secret feelings for Kate) I have been anxiously awaiting to see how these two get together. Jax and Kate have the easiest friendship. They knew each other so well and were so comfortable with each other.

This book also is up there with Complete as one of my favorite friends to lovers books of all time because it addresses the reality of what would happen if they don’t date each other. My biggest gripe with friends to lovers is the main characters thinking they can maintain the exact same friendship they have even if they date or marry other people. Jax and Kate both acknowledge and realize what dating and marrying other people would mean for their friendship and I love that they understood that reality.

Also let me just say the grand gesture - one of my top grand gestures of all time.

If you haven’t read anything by Larissa Hommes yet I beg you to do so asap. I have loved all of her books and I cannot wait for what’s next! Thank you Larissa for the ARC!

This is a closed door romance with no language and mild innuendo.

Ok this was the sweetest freaking book! This was friends to lovers at its finest and I devoured it! Larissa’s writing just sucks you in and I couldn’t stop thinking about it even out grocery shopping! 😂 Jax and Kate were truly soul mates and meant to be. They had been best friends for twenty years, and Jax had loved her for almost as long. I absolutely LOVED Jax! New book husband alert!! He did the sweetest things for Kate, he always stood up for her and was so supportive of her. Kate helped Jax deal with things in his home life that had always been hard for him. Them discovering their true love for each other was so sweet! I loved their banter, and the little flashbacks we got to their younger years. The last like 20-30 pages had me all in my feels and brought on the freaking tears! I couldn’t get enough of this book and I’m so sad it’s over!

Thank you so so much Larissa for the beautiful paperback of this gorgeous book! I’m so honored to have been able to read your books! You’re truly a favorite of mine!

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is book 3 in the Love At Night Series and can be read as a standalone, though I recommend reading the previous books too. Call It a Night is told through Jax and Kate's pov and is a must read friends to lovers romance.

CW: effects of divorce and toxic parents
Spice: descriptive kisses

When we first got hints of Jax and Kate in the previous books, I couldn't wait to read how this love story between best friends would unfold. Because of Jax's upbringing, his fears were easy to understand and I liked how he truly wanted Kate's happiness no matter what. After time spent being single and seeing her friends find love, she wanted a love of her own. I like how even when things weren't going her way she didn't give up but learned what she truly wanted and that she could be accepted as is. I liked how Jax encouraged her while she reassured him that he could also have a successful love story. I liked how there was an easy familiarity between them that shifted to flirty and created good tension between them. Overall, this was a great conclusion to the series and I know readers will be satisfied with it.

Will Jax take the leap before his best friend finds love online?!

Jax Kennedy has been in love with his best friend Kate Owens for as long as he can remember, but he’s kept his feelings under wraps, thanks to a supposed family curse that makes him nervous about pursuing romance.

When Kate decides to start online dating, he’s forced to confront his fears and decide whether he’s willing to risk everything for the woman he’s always loved.

Oh, this book was such a sweet, easy read!

The best friends-to-lovers trope gets me every time, and I loved being inside Jax’s head, feeling all the emotions as he struggled with his love for Kate.

It was so fun seeing how these two have absolutely been soul mates from the beginning, even if they didn’t quite realize it themselves!

Fans of sweet, cozy reads "will they, won’t they?" tension will adore Jax and Kate’s story.

This was such a good series. I listened to the audiobooks and they were well done.

I confess I sometimes get bored with or tired of friends to more, but this one kept me engaged. Jax and Kate have been friends since childhood. But as is often the case, they are determined to preserve their friendship at any cost. Jax knows he loves Kate but he has the added burden of a family imposed curse that says the men in his family cannot sustain a long-term relationship, so his solution is to avoid one.

The banter, the camaraderie, the inside jokes.. so so good! And the moments where they each feel that pull of attraction as priceless!

I appreciated the epilogue which looked back at all 3 couples in the 3 book series and gave a glimpse into their HEAs.

Jax and Kate’s story is so great, it is one of the best friends to more romance stories I have read, they are truly best friends speaking every day! I loved their easy banter; the things that made you think they would be more than friends, but they really kept it in the friend zone. This is such a great story, such swoony characters and so many good feels. This is a new to me author and I will be going back to read more, such a fantastic story! It is part of a series, but I didn’t feel like I was lost by reading this book first. If you want a fun slow read, be sure to grab this book, it doesn’t disappoint.

Is it a little on the nose? 💯 Is it perfectly cheesy and romantic? Again, 💯. But did I thoroughly enjoy it?! Yes!! 1000!! (Sorry, no emoji.) 🤣 Larissa Hommes takes all of the best tropes in a friends to lovers story, and turns it into an enjoyable if a bit predictable story, that in no way took away from my satisfaction at that first kiss. 🤗 Though predictable, the MCs are very multi-dimensional, and fleshed out very well. Plus, the story begins and ends with High School Musical 3, so I'm not sure I could have enjoyed this more! This was my first book by this author but will not be the last! 🥰

This was such a good read!! It’s my first to read in the series and I want to read the others now! You don’t have to have read the others to follow along with the plot of this one but of course I’m sure they’d add some background to her friend’s personalities.
Kate and Jax have been best friends since they were in elementary and they turn to each other for day to day advice. They’re both a friend I’d want to have. I definitely recommend this if you love a good slow burn read!

I have been paitently waiting for Jax and Kate's story. As expected, they didn’t disappoint. Jax and Kate are bestie goals, but they're even cuter as a couple. I love them to pieces! The childhood stories, the phone calls, the text messages, and most of all, Mexico were 🤌.

Special shout out to Daniel for giving Jax the shove he desperately needed. IYKYK 🙃

The previous books in this serious had me dying for a story with Kate and Jax. It did not disappoint either! Larissa did such a beautiful job bringing them together. Discovering deep hidden feelings and bringing them to life to create a relationship. I love these two besties to lovers. One of my favorites in this trope.

I'm definitely in a friends-to-lovers era right now, and Jax and Kate were the best! Jax's (initially unrequited) love for Kate was swoony, and I enjoyed watching Kate 'wake up' to the possibility of something more between them. There was so much sweetness, so much richness in their backstory, and so many shared moments. Didn't want to put it down.

This was the good, cute, feel-good friends to lovers story i needed. I love the one-bed trope. It was predictable (like a lot of romances), but it got a little repetitive with the MMC's flaws and his challenge to overcome.

Fun friends to lovers story. It took a little time for me to get into it as the relationship seemed very one-sided for awhile. Once Kate caught on to her deeper feelings for Jax, the story took off more and I liked her better than I did at the beginning.

Character Rating
Kate and Jax were so much fun! I loved their personalities and how they complemented each other. I totally identify with Kate as a book nerd and homebody, and Jax was one of the sweetest MMCs ever. Kate grew into herself throughout the book, finishing with much more self-confidence than she started with. Interestingly, Jax mirrored her arc but in a totally different way.

Relationships Rating
Kate and Jax have an enviable friendship - absolute relationship goals. As the third book in the series, her roommate and other three friends have already had their books. So, if you read this as a standalone, you may be wanting a bit more of those friendships on the page, and I recommend reading the first two books! Also, shoutout to Daniel, my favorite of the secondary characters.

Emotional Impact Rating
This book made me laugh! It was witty, and several of the situations were wildly amusing (and perhaps a valuable warning for those who brave online dating). There is an interesting emotional hang up threatening the HEA that I appreciated, and there were a few “what are you thinking?” moments as well. I absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, light, and satisfying book.

Writing Style Rating
I enjoyed the pacing and the logical flow of events/character development. I’m here for all of the pop culture references (hello Theo James!), the natural feeling dialogue, and the book trope references. A few things felt a little repetitive, but not in an overly distracting kind of way. I also liked the dual POV and flashbacks that provided more detail and context for the characters and the their choices.

Spice Rating
This is a closed door romance and only includes kissing. The description of the physical attraction between Kate and Jax was well done, and the moments were crafted wonderfully. Larissa Hommes did an excellent job of writing a believable transition from lifelong friends to the next level of the relationship.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book. All opinions are honest and my own.

FMC: Kate Owens
MMC: Jax Kennedy

This was such an adorable friends to lovers story, and I absolutely loved Kate and Jax together. Their interactions and facetime calls were funny and sweet. I really couldn’t get enough of them.

The line ‘show her my favorite part of the friends to lovers trope, when they finally kiss for the first time’ made me laugh so loud. And yes, Jax, that is also my favorite part. The build-up to this moment was written so well, and I was so eager for them to get to that point. This story was so much better with the slow burn, and you really got the chance to get to know the characters and their beautiful friendship.

I really recommend the Love At Night series if you enjoy a fun, sweet, and romantic story that just warms your heart. Kate, Jax, Demi, Cannon, Halle, and West were absolute perfection, and i’m sad the series is over. Really enjoyed every moment of it, and they definitely made me smile.
