For years, I withstood the pressure of the expectations put upon me. Until I broke under the stress of it all.
Desperate to leave everything behind, I hid out in Harlan’s indie book store. A needy omega like me, and a disabled alpha like him, maybe our broken pieces will fit together.
As my friendship with Harlan helps us both to heal, I’m caught by the scent of adventure and far away places. Archer. My scent match.
Instinct tells us we're supposed to be a pack. With Harlan, I can be myself. With Archer, I feel complete. But, friendship is one thing. Love, and a pack? That’s totally different.
Alpha Reader is a contemporary MMF why choose set in the Port Haven Omegaverse. It’s cozy, but deals with past trauma. Please go visit the Port Haven Omegaverse website for the full content list.

Stay, Harlan and Archer are all very much broken people. Not for their disabilities or their mental state, but just for the way others seem to have cast them aside. I did like the characters but I didn’t feel much of a connection to them. I felt sympathy for what they were facing but other than that, I have to admit I felt very little. I just felt like so much more could have been done with them.
This was a book I picked up during a Stuff Your Kindle day. It sounded interesting so I thought why not? The plot was okay, it just didn’t wow me. There is a big YAY for the disability rep because lord knows we don’t get enough of it. But there were a fair few spelling and grammar mistakes throughout the book which took away some enjoyment for me. The characters were also okay but I just felt like I barely knew them. I wanted more depth to them and their lives. Like, surely they aren’t all alone and have no friends at all? How do their pasts impact them day to day? How does a big change like becoming a pack change them? I wanted to know these things and didn’t get them. The romance was sweet but felt entirely too fast. I totally get that with many Alpha/omega stories, their instincts take over and things do move quick. But we have characters here that have past trauma and are not quick to trust. So why is it suddenly different? It’s like a switch was flicked and they changed in an instant. The spice was pretty hot. It seems like that is where the majority of the focus fell for this story. The ending didn’t feel right for the story, in my opinion. It felt way off track for what I’d been reading and it’s like we jumped years into the future with no context, yet it was a continuous scene. I won’t lie, I am tempted to see what else this overall series brings but I’m in no rush to do so.
Overall, Alpha Reader is a decent Alpha/omega romance but it just missed the mark for me.
I was hoping to get this done sooner, but I got super sick. Better late than never!
This book was very intriguing!! It dealt with some very heavy topics including self harm, suicidal thoughts and ideations, disability stigmatization, and abandonment issues. I really enjoyed it! It felt very realistic in the fumbling through relationship and personal struggles.
After reading this I realized I already owned another book by Lilith and have already started it! I loved her writing style! It was very easy to read and follow along with while still being a complex plot.
I expected this to be a trashy smutfest, but it's actually quite emotional and sweet. But yes, there is also smut. Rounding up to four, but still consider this a palate cleanser and not something I will recommend.
This was awesome! This is my first read in the Port Haven series and it makes me want to read the others. This isn’t the typical omegaverse story and I think that’s what makes me so happy about it. It’s the most believable omegaverse out there (for an omegaverse lol). Standard folks, standard jobs.. no ridiculous political or military power. It was a really nice twist on a very exhuberant niche. The characters were all their own person and you knew who was narrating even if you hadn’t read their name at the beginning of the chapter.
Harlan, the male alpha bookstore owner and double leg amputee lead, was rejected by his scent match for not being “alpha” enough. Now running a bookstore for an older beta male, he’s content with the life he’s built for himself.
Anastasia (Stay), the female omega lead, is the daughter of an unpacked omega who neglects her offspring. Having recently emerged from the hospital after a suicide attempt, she’s struggling to not go there again. Entering Harlan’s store, she’s shocked to find him welcoming her, and to find herself returning to finalise matters with him before the end.
When Harlan finds Stay attempting to harm herself, he bites her to claim her and keep her safe. Then, whilst donating excess stock to the hospital, she runs into Archer, the second male lead, who is a sight-impaired, audio book narrator who volunteers there, and her scent match.
Determined to ensure Stay keeps her scent match, and automatically attracted to Archer because he is Stay’s match and Stay’s his omega, Harlan bites Archer into pack to preserve the scent match. But can they form healthy relationships between all pairs and as a group?
This story is dual POV, well written, and an erotic, ménage omegaverse romance between three characters who shouldn’t work together but do. I enjoyed Harlan’s assertiveness and his calm patience and willingness to be the lead that Stay needed. I enjoyed that Stay was the grumpy person and that, even after the relationship settled, she remained somewhat grim. I empathised with her history and enjoyed that she was willing to accept Harlan’s offerings. I enjoyed Archer’s patience and his willingness to allow for a building relationship, rather than automatic acceptance and incorporation into the existing pair. I adored that each character’s disability was inherent to them but not a focus point for the story; it felt naturally accommodated, rather than forced into the spotlight. I enjoyed the erotic intimate scenes and the way they helped Stay acclimatise to her new pack balance. This is a really great story and one of very few ménage romances that I’ve given 5 stars to.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
I was immediately drawn into this book to the point where I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one day!
The pack relationships were so incredibly sweet and so full of emotion and feeling.
But please read trigger warnings because some incredibly deep topics are present and the characters have their own histories that they are healing from.
That being said the way that the author approaches the subjects was so raw and pure that it resonated so fully with me. I love love LOVE that these characters weren’t the normal ‘perfect’ alphas and omega but real, full bodied characters that deserved this happily ever after the most!
Plus who can resist a romance that unfolds within a bookstore, over two bookworms bonding over the very same books that surround them. 🥰🥰🥰 dream material
This is a mfm sweet, non-shifting omegaverse set in modern times. Full of deep sensitive topics, acceptance, healing and scent matches that slowly become each other’s everything together. I liked how the relationships within the pack developed together but also separately at the same time.
I absolutely love all the disability rep in this book.
First you have Anastasia, an Omega, who comes from a family full of kids with a mostly absent mother. When things become to much she makes a choice. Well when she comes out of it her original dream is no longer a reality and she has to figure out what to do now.
Harlan is out first Alpha. He met his scent match in high school but was rejected because of his disability. She didn't find him Alpha enough for her. So now he lives and works alone in a bookstore.
Archer is our second Alpha and he is the Omega's scent match. This terrifies her but also gives her and by proxy Harlan a chance for something new and unexpected.
This book is absolutely beautiful and tragic. It shows all walks of life and brings in metal health as well as a couple different physical disabilities and represents them in a great way.
Don't forget to read the trigger warnings though because they are definitely there and upfront in the story.
I'd love to see what happens next for this pack and the opportunity offered at the end.
Quick read, normally I would say lighthearted but it actually had some really deep themes but not in a dark way. I felt like the portrayal of Stay's family and her suicidal thoughts were realistic. How quick she moved into the bookstore was a little odd but fit with omegaverse themes. There were some other oddities like the fact she essentially became a volunteer worker, that her and Harlan lived and had sex in the bookstore, how bonding with Archer was so cavalier but it added to the quirkiness of it. There wasn't a ton to the relationships or plot but I didnt mind. I did appreciate the depth of the characters, that each had some type of disability, mental or physical, but they didn't let it define or hold them back. Probably should have read the other books in the series first to get a better idea of Port Haven but this was a quick pallete cleanser read for me.

This was a good quick read! It started out pretty dark, so if you have mental health struggles, the first few chapters may be a trigger, so be cautious. After Anastasia meets Harlan for the second time, it gets lighter and nowhere near as heavy. I think it was paced nicely, I do wish there was more 'meat' to the story and a bit more of Archer and Harlans' relationship. We see it starting to bloom, and then the book ends, almost like a mini cliffhanger. I was left with the question of how the *SPOILER* fire started, but other than that, it was a good book!
This was cute. Anastasia (Stay) has an AWFUL family (srsly her mom is the worst) and ends up meeting Harlan, the manager of a local bookstore and they hit it off. He has his own baggage as well (his scent match rejected him).
Stay later meets Archer…who IS her scent match. The 3 of them are super supportive of each other, it’s adorable.
I think this is one of the few books I’ve read with main characters who are disabled in some way.
I wouldn’t say I LOVED this…but it was a quick enough read.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I enjoyed the storyline. Parts of the story did feel somewhat rushed, but it didn’t pull me out of the narrative. The relationships formed in this why-choose were very sweet in my opinion. Fear not, the spice is there too! Pick this one up for a quick, heartwarming omegaverse!
Just when I thought the relationship between Harlan and Archer would develop, it didn't. A missed opportunity!
One tragedy after another, which hampers the story's progression and flow, is the feeling I'm left with after reading this book. I feel like some parts could have been left out and focused on developing the relationships. Now, their story feels unfinished to me.
First off Harlen and Stay are the cutest! If you’re looking for an omegaverse with the angst and cuteness then this is for you! Pls check triggers before diving in but when I was looking for a cute but tense book this fit the bill!
3 scarred people, who come together..With a shared love of books, each member of this pack have their own trauma and demons to face, but with each other they can do anything....looking forward to reading more from this author
I really enjoyed this book! I was really excited to receive an ARC. It was a quick read that explored trauma, mental health issues and physical disabilities. I enjoyed the romance and the relationship but the representation was awesome!
I love this story. Stay, Harlan and Archer are all wonderful together. What’s more poignant is that this story shows that disability does not define who you are. Each of them suffer in very different ways but they are able to overcome their obstacles together. This is a lovely read.
A refreshing take on omegaverse with such fabulous characters Stay, Harlan and Archer all connect through trauma and a love of books. They were so sweet together. Loved the disability representation in this and how it was embraced.
This was my first foray with Lilith K. Duat’s writing and I really enjoyed my time in Port Haven. I always love a book that embraces disability representation and I really appreciated in the scope of an Omegaverse. It was beautiful watching these three slightly broken people find acceptance in each other’s splintered parts. It was so sweet and endearing watching them blossom in the unconditional support and love of one another.
My only niggle is that I wish this was longer. so feel like it would have added such depth and nuance if we had had more time learning the essence of this group of people. It also would have given space for us to learn more about what started the fire and the further development of pack dynamics. It felt a bit of an abrupt end for three characters that deserved much more time together on page.
Regardless, this was a lovely and alight spin on a typical Omegaverse novel and I urge you to check it out on its November 29th release.
I would be remiss in encouraging you to check content warnings as there are some very emotional and dark topics that could be triggering.
Anastasia was ready to end it all. She planned to spend her remaining time in a place she loved, a bookstore. Once there the kindness of a gentle Alpha made her rethink her choice. When Harlan renamed her Stay, she did just that. They weren't a matched pair, they were chosen. And when Stay met her scent match, Harlan claimed him as Pack too. They may not be the most 'usual' pack but they fit. Together, they are whole.
If you are looking for an Omegaverse with less-than-perfect, regular-income characters, this is the one for you. There are no supermodel millionaires. The characters all carry physical and/or behavioral health scars. They weren't expecting to get their own "Happily Ever After". It's awkward and sweet. At times slow and at others, rushed. I liked the characters; liked the story. I think my hesitation comes from the normalcy. I know other readers are always in search of flaws. Not me. I work in BH. We have amputees and visually impaired patients. I read to escape. I love the fantasy aspect of Omegaverse with over-the-top riches and beauty. I see the value of this story and know it will be popular but I prefer make-believe. I did love that they found perfection in their shared flaws. Love comes to the forgotten, the overlooked, and the damaged.
Anastasia (Stay) is an omega running from a broken home and she finds solace in Harlan's bookstore. Harlan is a disabled alpha whose scent match turned him down. As their friendship grows and they both start to heal, Stay finds her scent match. She never thought she could have it all but Harlan makes her feel safe and Archer makes her feel complete. Can they all find love and make a pack?
I gotta say this was probably the most romantic and less traumatic of all the omegaverse books I have read. And given we meet Stay on what she plans to be her last day, that is saying a lot. I loved the dynamic between the three of them. It was very sweet and normal and never really felt over the top. Whilst I am a bit suspicious of the fire, this book just felt like a good wholesome romance with a few spicy scenes. Good for an easy quick read.
Rating 3.5 stars *I received a review copy from the author for my voluntary and honest review
