Just when my mixed pack have simmered down and entered into a tentative alliance, the unthinkable descends.
Over the mountain, clasped in the claws of mesmerised eagles, comes the Serpent Hoard, led by their monstrous, fire breathing king, intent on grabbing The Storyteller and my cremated magic book.
Our pack’s only hope of survival rests on a barking mad mage cat with nifty jazz paws.
If it’s not dilapidated castles and homicidal mould, it’s portals and vortexes.
If I don’t figure out the difference, I’ll be thrown back to Earth and a showdown with my own imagination, because…
The greatest battle is in the mind.
About the Author
Caroline Noe lives in London, juggling the writing of science fiction and fantasy novels with her other great photography. When she's not scratching holes in notebooks, she can be found standing on her head, straining for the best shot.
An action-packed and triumphant conclusion to this epic trilogy of a middle-aged “Chosen One” and her mangy wolf mate. Edi had thought that things would finally settle down for her mixed pack of wolf, bear, snake, and eagle shifters. But things never run smoothly for her found family and the advance of the vicious snake army led by the fire-breathing king serpent could very well spell the end for them all.
Once again, Edi and Curt must fight for their right to exist, only this time the stakes are much higher. Edi’s destiny is knocking at the door. Will she have the courage to answer? More importantly, will she have the strength to tell it — not today, thank you — and slam the door in its face?
Believing she destroyed the magical book that brought her to her dream fantasy world and her dream, albeit slightly crumpled about the edges, mate, Edi is shocked when her new ally Kit informs her that the book cannot be destroyed. After all, Kit is a mad mage cat with nifty jazz hands who is prone to flights of fancy so can he be trusted? But deep inside, Edi knows he is right and the quest to retrieve the book from the malicious mould-infested castle is on.
Fabulously written, with more comic asides than a set at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, this final tale of Edi, the menopausal and snarky madam, battling overwhelming odds, sciatica, and her ageing body that lets her down at the most inopportune moments, is one that all ages can enjoy. Forget all those stories of insanely beautiful teenage Chosen Ones and their moody broody barely pubescent heroes, I’ll take a tea-swigging, sarcastic middle-aged British woman on the rampage any time.
With twists and turns galore, one particularly evil plot twist by the author had me gripping my tea tightly and turning the pages in a frenzied race to the end. Did it all work out well in the end? You’ll have to read the series to find out. A howling five stars from me for this unique and imaginative shifter trilogy.
A fantastic ending to an enjoyable series featuring the menopausal and sciatica-ridden Edi Breaker-Smith as the Chosen One, together with her love interest, the shape-shifting wolf, Curt Furtletooth. All the characters we’ve come to know and love from books 1 and 2 appear in this one – wolves, bears, eagles and snakes – but book 3 also features a magic-wielding sabre-tooth lion/tiger/cat who just jumps off the page, together with a seriously scary serpent antagonist, and let’s not forget the mould monster – a terrifying tour-de-force. The action is exciting, relentless and takes your breath away as Edi and her allies battle to save their multi-species pack from the depredations of a host of serpents determined to destroy them all. The book ends with a heart-stopping denouement which leaves the reader guessing. Will Edi’s story telling skills save the day or will she end up trapped in her old existence far from everything and everyone she’s come to love? A fabulous comedy fantasy which delightfully and skilfully subverts so many fantasy tropes.
Loved it! Book 3 of the Mangy Wolf Saga had it all. Good guys, bad guys, nutty guys, psycho guys… wolves, bears, snakes and serpents, tune deaf eagles and others, yucky disgusting revolting mould… a magical saber tooth tigerlion, a ram and a pink dragon…. Battles galore - the good guys won of course. Friendship and love and a rebuilding of their place after the battle. And of course our mangy wolf ( he does not have mange) and the story teller a big bummed human who found her love, her mate among this craziness. This author has a way with words and, from page 1, I was hooked and giggling away like a lunatic at all the antics. If this does not tempt you to go get this book straight away then I don’t know…. But don’t forget to read the other 2 books in this series too! And lastly, the cover art… oh my stars. Fantastic just like in the other 2 books!
In The Return Of The Cat, the third book of the Mangy Wolf Saga, Edie once again must save her beloved pack from certain doom, but discovers in the process that all she has grown to love may never have been real. Would it matter if it wasn’t? Noe’s characters embody the importance of faith and trust in our most treasured relationships, while simultaneously reminding us how important it is to laugh. I look forward to the upcoming collection of short stories which will complete this marvelously unconventional tale.
Immerse yourself in an epic fantasy series filled with adventure, wit, and life lessons that hit close to home. With captivating storytelling and characters you won’t soon forget, this trilogy will keep you hooked from start to finish. Once you dive into the first book, you'll find yourself eagerly reaching for the next, turning page after page to follow the unforgettable journey of these characters with a perfect conclusion.
It says "The End (maybe)" at the end, so here's hoping there's more. Fingers-crossed it's soon! Once again, Caroline Noe does it again. Crafting together a thoroughly enjoyable tale about a menopausal heroine and the fabulous realm she lives in. Such a pleasure to reunite with wonderful characters, like visiting old friends. And new ones! Oh, that Kit! There's everything from action to romance to magicky stuff, superbly written and riddled with the witty, hilarious British humour.
This series... I have never read such a funny, compelling story about a penopaused woman. Edi is grumpy and hates her job. When she gets a book as a Christmas gift, it is the start of an adventure. Vortexed into another world and dumped in knee-deep snow, it seems she has gone from worse to worse, that is when a mangy wolf finds her and everything changes. I rated all books 5🌟
I get a kick out of these Mangy Wolf stories. Wild and weird fairy tales, with a modern twist and much humor. The newest character, Kit is a cross between the docile cowardly Lion and Narnia's Aslan. A powerful, but sad, fellow, who finds his life and joy again after being imprisoned by dark magic and a petty tyrant. Fun reading.
This was such a joy to read. Which is probably a weird thing to say when it made me sob like a baby at one point. I can't really say why without any spoilers but it was really well done. On top of making you feel Edi's anguish there were perilous quests and the laughs were plenty so yes, a joy to read.
Perfect ending to a fabulous and fun series! Full of adventure and British wit, told by a sarcastic, mature woman, the end is both lovely and satisfying. Best portal fantasy I've read in years!
This series is nonsense…the funniest, sweetest, sometimes edge-of-your-seat scariest nonsense ever! It’s a brilliant way to step into another world and lose yourself for a while. I’d give it 10 stars if I could!
I've loved The Mangy Wolf Saga - book 3 was no different - because the series takes the concept of a female heroine and turns it on it's head. The story is fabulous, I loved most of the characters and the writing is humous. Definitely a worthwhile read.
The ultimate battle had me holding my breath as I imagine the urgency to come together as one Pack! I love it. I don’t think I wanted it to end. So much so. I am one of those hoping the end of the book is a slight cliffhanger 😂
Wrong read dates. LOVED this series. I kind of felt like things were a bit contrived and didn't happen organically but overall the story itself was rollicking and kept me happily entertained!
