5 new-to-me authors had me binge-reading this one yesterday!

Cold Escape: Five Christian Romantic Suspense Novels (Winter Shivers: Christian Romantic Suspense Book 1)

This anthology includes 5 stories set in December and featuring a nanny, a secret agent, a retired agent, a grumpy chef and an abductee.

📚 Rescued by Jerusha Agen

-Absolutely FANTASTIC story about (1) what happens when the bottom falls out of our world and we don’t know who to trust and (2) the importance of turning to God as our first response
-Nanny Valena Greer’s world is turned upside down when she and the twin 2-year-olds she looks after are put in danger and she has to trust a stranger
-Cooper White 💙
“God doesn’t need good behavior or candle lighting to please Him or to get Him to do things. He isn’t like a gum machine - put in good behavior and get out what you want.”
-My heart was pounding and I was feverishly turning pages
-I instantly went onto Amazon and bought one of her books

📚 Where Danger Leads by Mary Alford

-Simply AMAZING story with a unique setting and multiple twists I never expected!
-So compelling I read this one from start to finish
-Story about betrayals and the dangers of letting past mistakes destroy or define us
-Colton Hawthorne 💙(all characters were unforgettable)
-Reminder that it only takes one little thing -one small twist of fate- to change/destroy everything
-Exploration of what we need to move on

📚 Stone Cold by Chautona Havig

“I’m my own personal therapist, and as such, I can even answer myself and not be crazy.” - been there, Beryl!
– this one’s an Agency Files ‘adjacent’ and features a character who appears in Effective Immediately and a woman on the run who has to keep them safe while holed up in a castle in Michigan
-using Home Alone tactics, she’s able to defeat the goons who are out to get her
- I loved Beryl! I talk to myself, too. I love Home Alone. I often feel like I’m trying to outrun goons and engineering (in my mind) methods to beat them at their own game.
-I understood Gibbs as he’s a lot like my husband - the voice of reason

📚 Real Cold by Katy Lee

-story about revenge and unselfish and unconditional love
-reminder that (1) family looks different for everyone - family isn’t about blood, and (2) that God sees everything, even our secrets

📚 Spencer by Kari Trumbo

-Great story about characters with health challenges
“She didn’t feel like the work of a Master Artist. Most days, she felt like a lump of clay tossed off the wheel and headed for the trash.”
-themes of rejection, doing what’s right, and bringing beauty from ashes
“Don’t let people put you down who you would never allow to give you advice.”

I immediately downloaded Book 2!

I only read Chautona's story so far, fun, light and deep as hers always are. I'll come back (probably when it's actually winter) and read the others.

Cold Escape was written in several different styles to bring about varied types of danger, mayhem, hope, love and faith by five women: Jerusha Agen, Mary Alford, Chautona Having, Katy Lee and Kari Trumbo. Although each story was written in their own style, the message of redemption and faith was ever present in their words. These five authors have purposefully chosen words that serve a purpose introducing faith to those who are struggling, even if I can only mention two due to space.
Throughout the fears faced in Rescued, written by Jerusha Agen, I was reminded no matter whatever happens in life, no matter the fear we may feel, our Savior is there waiting to rescue us, from whatever spark of danger we face. No matter what happens to us, or the cost, our dependence on God above will show us how to have a deep-seated faith, as well as Whom to trust. Cooper and Valena faced ongoing danger and unanswered questions – one by one. Redemption, faith and hope played supporting roles and gave them hope to save the children in their care. I loved how Agen brought this story of loss, fear, suffering and all-encompassing pain around to a story of hope, faith, love and the truth of His Redeeming Grace.
Where Danger Leads, by Mary Alford, paved the road with an escape from danger towards the well-travelled road of faith and redemption. In the beginning of this story, a fearful mother flees a war-torn land filled with death and deceit, for the safety of her young child. Presently, Elizabeth Kauffman runs from one traumatic event to another, holding on to the trust that she was finding in Colton Hawthorne. Even when the deaths begin piling up, they begin peeling back the layers to find the truth. As the shades in both of their pasts finally begin to unravel, the utmost important question after all they’ve seen comes to light: can their love stay true to open a bright future?
Reading the full compilation of all these stories brightened my day. I was given this book for my honest opinion of this combined effort. I enjoyed reading each story, noting the varied styles they use to write them. Due to the action, hope, and faith shared within each book written, I enjoyed the stories. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars and I am thankful for the time of restful peace as I read. I believe that the written word can encompass the sharing of faith in action as it is meant to be shared with readers worldwide.

I thoroughly enjoyed Cold Escape which features some new-to-me authors, and I couldn't put this anthology down.
Rescue by Jerusha Agen involves a nanny who has to decide if she can trust the man who helped rescue her and the twins in her care from bad guys or not. This was a fast-paced suspense story, and the twins were cute.
Where Danger Leads by Mary Alford is all about danger as Cooper helps Elizabeth, an Amish, search for her aunt Sarah who may be in danger. Not only bad guys but also CIA agents are after Cooper and Elizabeth, but this story has twists and turns and surprises as they discover the truth.
Spencer by Kari Trumbo has a great storyline and an interesting plot where the Northern Guardians team has to prove Elana's innocence. Spenser and Elana have their own personal struggles.
Real Cold by Katy Lee has an interesting storyline involving a FBI agent and a restaurant chef as Vera works on bringing down a crime boss. Of course, there are secrets in this story as well as tension and surprises and twists and turns.
Stone Cold by Chautoni Havig will leave you laughing as this story involves Beryl who finds herself in trouble upon discovering her aunt has been murdered and a castle booby trapped, thanks to Home Alone. I enjoyed the chemistry between her and Gibbs.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Suspense filled

I already have read other books by two of the authors and knew their stories would be amazing and now I have one more favorite author to add to my favorites. If you love suspense but don't like long books, this will be perfect for you. And you just might find new authors that you will have to have their other books.

Wow! Cold Escape, an anthology of five romantic suspense stories by five different authors will keep you on your toes while looking over your shoulder.
Rescued, by Jerusha Agen, focuses on DEA Agent Cooper White, trying to protect nanny Valena Greer and her toddler twin charges. But who can Valena really trust?
Where Danger Leads, by Mary Alford, has Amish widow Elizabeth Kauffman facing certain death, saved in the nick of time by disgraced former CIA officer Colton Hawthorne. Who is after these two very different people, and how do they connect?
Spencer, by Kari Trumbo, deals with Northern Guardian Spencer Cadence, whose worsening health condition just might mean the end of his job. He finds Elena Hermans tied up and frees her, but now she’s a target. Spencer will do anything to keep her safe, no matter what.
In Real Cold, by Katy Lee, we meet Chef Rafe Sinclair, a restaurant owner with a varied past. Undercover FBI agent Vera Sharp is sure that Rafe is who she’s after, but is he?
Lastly in Stone Cold, by Chautona Havig, Beryl is a woman on the run after finding her aunt dead. This humorous story has her hiding in a castle setting traps against the goons after her a la Home Alone, but she doesn’t count on the owner to be there! Thankfully Gibbs wants to help. But is this a temporary team-up, or one for forever?
I so enjoyed each of these stories! Each was uniquely its own, but all were great reading!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but my opinion is entirely my own.

Rescued by Jerusha Agen - This book had pretty constant danger and intrigue with Cooper, Valena, and the precious twins on the run throughout the story. Valena’s goal was to keep the twins as safe and happy as possible through all of the turmoil. Cooper struggled to keep Valena on his side, and they had to work through some personal issues from their pasts in order to get their happy ending.

Where Danger Leads by Mary Alford - Who to trust? That was certainly the question in this book!! Elizabeth had lived a very simple life, and all of a sudden everything exploded in her world. Colton showed up to help her, and this story, that twists and turns through so much danger and intrigue, held my interest from beginning to end. It was difficult to put down, but it was very good!

Real Cold by Katy Lee - Wow! This book had a lot of twists and turns. I loved the many different roles that Vera was able to accomplish with seemingly very little effort. It was easy to suspect everybody, but Rafe and Vera were able to work together and resolve the case with some help from their friends.

Stone Cold by Chautona Havig - So good!! Beryl is hilarious! She is laugh-out-loud funny. I love how she talks to herself – her turn of phrase and thought processing are so funny! Gibbs is able to pretty quickly figure out a lot about Beryl, and he is amused, impressed, and somewhat scared by her and how she wants to beat the “goons”. Gibbs and Beryl each want to protect the other, although Gibbs is definitely at a disadvantage with his broken leg. This story comes to a very satisfying conclusion and is an excellent romantic suspense with some rom-com thrown in for good measure.

A collections of suspense stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. All the stories are clean with Bible references. One I struggled to connect with, just because of the writing style that isn’t my type; no disrespect meant to the Author or her work.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and these are my voluntary and honest opinions. I was not required to leave a positive review.

Rescued

Danger right from the start to the very end! Twists and turns that keep you guessing. Both Cooper and Valera have baggage that keeps them bound but they learn to let God rescue them. Their path is marked by danger, sadness, and doubts, but they slowly grow to trust each other with their whole heart. A very gentle romance in very dangerous times.

Where Danger Leads

An adrenaline-rush at every turn! Deception and betrayal run rampant as Colton and Elizabeth race to find the answers to all the questions that will decide their future. Lots of twists and shocking revelations come their way. They come to trust each other and God completely. Their love grows slowly in the thick of the battle and changes their lives completely.

Spencer

Spencer and Elana’s relationship is a good lesson in seeing beyond the outside and the disabilities to see the real person underneath. Everyone has a value that comes from God; He made us special and has a plan that only we can accomplish.

Real Cold

Rafe and Vera face much heartache and betrayal in trying to bring the head bad guy to justice. Rafe learns that you can always depend on God and Vera finally lets love come first in her heart. Their story is action-packed right from the start.

Stone Cold

Gibbs and Beryl’s story is laced with danger, suspense, and much humor. Beryl definitely has a quirky way about her, but Gibbs learns to like it. With the help of his friends, they solve the mystery and make the danger go away. Then they navigate their feelings for each other.

This book is a great collection of books by five wonderful authors. Jerusha Agen, Mary Alford, Chautona Havig, Katy Lee and Kari Trumbo have each written a clean romantic suspense book that embraces their own unique style.
Rescued by Jerusha Agen is a fast paced, edge of your seat story about attempted kidnapping of twins two-year-olds. Their nanny, Valena Greer is forced to accept help from a man she doesn’t know. Cooper White knows that he’s the best one to take care of Valena and the twins. Trying to stay ahead of the bad guys and get someplace completely safe proves to be a difficult task. Romance and faith are both well blended into the story adding depth and hope.
Where Danger Leads by Mary Alford, Author brings an intense storyline that deals with former CIA officer Colton Hawthorne and Amish widow Elizabeth Kauffman. Sparks fly as Colton and Elizabeth try to stay alive while searching for the truth of what really happened to Colton’s entire team. This story will keep you guessing about what happens. The faith element is well written and blended into the story.
Spencer by Kari Trumbo finds bodyguard, Spencer saving and trying to protect Elana from a horrible fate planned for her by her boss. They both have struggles in their lives that bring challenges as they try to stay ahead of the people hunting them. How do they manage to always be one step ahead of our hero and heroine. I enjoyed the fast pace, faith struggle and well done romance in Spencer.
Real Cold by Katy Lee finds FBI agent Vera Sharp working undercover to get evidence against a mob boss. Chef Rafe Sinclair is working hard to save his restaurant when Vera shows up looking for a job. Things heat up from the beginning, holding the reader’s attention. This fast paced, edge of your seat story will keep the reader’s attention riveted to the pages. Faith, hope and romance are well done throughout.
Stone Cold by Chatona Havig brings us a distraught Beryl fleeing for her life. She ends up at a very interesting home occupied by an injured gentleman by the name of Gibbs. Don’t blink or you might miss something in this suspense filled book with great moments of humor. The unexpected twists keep the reader wanting to know what will happen next! Romance, hope, fear and faith all play a role in this story.
My thanks to the publisher for an ARC of this book. I was only asked for an honest review.

Rescued by Jerusha Agen
It was the middle of the night and Valena Greer jumped up in bed once the screaming of the alarm registered in her head. She looked at her phone and saw the message SECURITY THREAT. She thought it was raccoons or other critters since they can be a problem. She turned her phone to vibrate and laid down again to try and get more sleep. Being a nanny to twins required her to be on her toes, they are 2 yrs old and VERY inquisitive. Her phone vibrated in her hand so she sat on her bed and then checked her phone, the message was the same, SECURITY THREAT. She checked on the twins and they were fast asleep. Then came the really distressing message. UNAUTHORIZED ENTRY.
Valena grabbed the kids and started for the safe room, on her way, a trap door opened and a man popped out scaring her almost as much as the thought that men had broken in and were looking for her. He told her that he worked for the security company that her boss, Lance had hired she started to argue because Lance had never mentioned the need for someone to physically show up, but she followed him. They got to the safe room and it seemed that the men had left. Cooper told her they had not and that they needed to leave, this was not something the police could handle, he said when she said she wanted to wait for police. She kept demanding that he tell her what is going on and why the police could not handle this. He finally told her that he was a friend of Lance's and that he could not tell her more at this time. She felt she had no choice but to go, she wanted to protect the twins but did not trust him. The twins needed to be safe.
Thank you Jerusha Agen for this wonderful story, I could not put it down.

Rescued by Jerusha Agen - Valeena Greer is a nannie to two twins when one night everything shatter and turns deadly. She must run through the house and evade the killers lurking in her house! She hides in a cellar when security agent Cooper White comes to her aid. With bullets blazing, he tries to lead Valeena and the twins to safety and will stop at nothing to keep them alive! This book was such a page turner with kidnapping, gunfights, and killers chasing them across the country! I also loved how Valeena’s severe lack of trust for people turned into a burning fire of trust for Cooper!

Where Damger Leads by Mary Alford - This book was incredible! Coming home from a normal day at work when his life flips upside down! Colton Hawthorne, former ICA, has been on the run for years when the dying words of a man forces Colton back out of hiding to find the truth behind an ambush that killed his entire CIA team and branded him a traitor. Amish Widower Elizbeth Kauffman faces her own nightmare when an armed man arrives at her door. Colton swoops in and saves the day as they realize their paths are intertwined. Together can they survive long enough to evade the killers after them to figure out who set Colton up? Overall this book left me on the edge of my seat and left me mind blown! It was so good and it had a lot high action! I never saw the twist coming in the end but it left my jaw dropped! What an ending to an awesome story!

Spencer by Kari Trumbo - This book was so good! Spencer is hiding a career threatning health condition. When a client shows up to his work he finds a girl locked in the back of his pickup truck. Once freed Elena was terrified, but Spencer is willing to stop at nothing to help Elena stay alive from a drug runner! From fires to kidnapping to numerous gunfights the action was endless! Overall, I loved the suspense in this book, and the characters were amazing! I loved how the characters were super relatable and the faith elements were perfect!

Real Cold by Katy Lee - This book was so intriguing! FBI agent Vera Sharp must go undercover at a restaurant as a singer to stop a crime lord who is about to carry out his deadliest heist yet. Chef Rafe Sinclair restaurant is on it’s last legs hires Vera Sharp out of desperation. Now Rafe must prove his innocence, and save his restaurant, before it is too late. Can Vera and Rafe together stop what’s coming their way before many innocent people die? This ending was so suspenseful it had me on the edge of my seat! I also loved the undercover aspect as it added another element of mystery and suspense to this wonderful book!

Stone Cold by Chautona Havig - This book was amazing! When Beryl comes home to find her aunt dead she flees before she becomes the killers next victim. Beryl runs to Rural Michigan where she hides in a castle! She hides there until the owner comes home. Gibbs, who has a broken leg, finds Beryl hiding in the castle from the ‘’goons’’. Together can they protect each other and fend of the ‘’goons’’. In a humorous home alone way Beryl is determined to set booby traps to fend off an attack! Overall, this book was so well written! I loved the characters, I loved the homey Christmas aspect, and mostly I loved the Home Alone vibe!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I skipped the story by Kari Trumbo because there were too many sentences in the first two chapters that caused me to roll my eyes!

Review for Real Cold by Katy Lee:
I didn't realize this was part of a series with the first book, "Real Virtue," covering the story about Melody "Mel" and Jeremy. Then "Real Justice" telling us about Christina "Chris" and Marcus.

"...what are you and who are you? Answer the question!"
"That's technically two questions."

"Thankfully, insomnia was my first partner and never let me down."

"I'm not much of a praying man, never felt worthy. But I do appreciate you taking the time to bring that request to God."

"...the corner of her eyes burned from keeping them wide open. She didn't dare blink for what might happen in that split second."

Lots of action, great twists.

Spoiler....
I hope there is another book to continue to story regarding Grady and Nico and their interactions that end in a cliffhanger. I want justice!
End of spoiler....

I read this story in the book, "Cold Escape," which contained the following five stories:
Rescued by Jerusha Agen
Where Danger Leads by Mary Alford
Spencer by Kari Trumbo
Real Cold by Katy Lee
Stone Cold by Chautina Havig

Each novella is a real thrill ride, with non-stop action and plenty of chilling scenes. With compelling plots in each story and characters that were in danger from the beginning, this collection had me holding my breath and hoping for the best. I enjoyed getting to know each character, with all of their realistic flaws and even humor worked into captivating tales. All of these are perfect for settling down with your favorite hot beverage and a soft blanket.

I thoroughly enjoyed this collection, far more than I expected to! I borrowed it from Kindle Unlimited solely to read Chautona Havig's installment, but for some reason, I decided to try another, and then another, and then another until I'd read the whole thing. I found every single one of the stories very engaging and feel like I've found some new authors to add to my must-read list! All of the stories were well-executed, and unlike a lot of other novella collections, none of them felt rushed to me. They were just right! I highly recommend this series for some great inspirational mystery and suspense!

This anthology is a great introduction to the Christmas season for Christian Romantic Suspense fans.

Some of the best Christian authors have full length stories to get you in the mood for Christmas. Favorites such as Jerusha Agen, Mary Alford, Chautona Havig, Katy Lee and Kari Trumbo keep the stories going and will make you realize why the anthology is called Winter Shivers - Cold Escape. I can’t wait for Book 2 which is called Silent Night. It will have even more favorite authors.

I received an advanced reader’s copy from Two Dogs Publishing. Opinions are my own.

The first story wasn't bad, but putting stories that are part of other series but not the first into an anthology isn't a good idea. It's like picking up a book in the middle and trying to read it! One looked good but was one of those, and the plots of others were so unbelievable that they weren't fun to read.

I read the first two stories (the second story got more and more unbelieveable as it progressed!), tried two others, and gave up.

These five suspense novels were all different but each amazingly written! You really got to know the characters so well and could relate to them. The descriptions of scenery, characters and the action sequences were all riveting. They helped you to feel as though you were there.

If you like Christian romantic suspense, this is a must read!! Really excited that there will be more.

Get ready for high octane action!

I can’t prove it but I don’t know if I took a breath while I was reading each story. I mean, obviously I did since I’m writing this review! But I did hold it in for much of the time I was reading.

These stories were a rush and a half. Mind bending twists and turns, lots of surprises around every corner, and jam packed with memorable characters.

I read this book and really enjoyed most of it. One of the writers has an unusual style of writing and I didn't enjoy that story as much as the others. Would recommend this book if you enjoy mystery/suspense. Especially liked Jerusha Agen's book. This is a nice collection of books.

As with most of Chautona’s work, my only complaint is that I want MORE. A masterful storyteller, Havig’s genius with characters and setting has struck again. Grab some popcorn and dive in to this epic tale of modest proportions!

Wow. Once again…incredible stories. My favorite of the 5 told in this book has to be the last one. The quirkiness and genuinely adorable Beryl and the frustrated but so amused Gibbs, I found myself laughing through the whole thing and falling in love with these characters.
