With Zeke's gang closing in, Amanda and Austin are forced to abandon the home they've fought so hard to protect. But in the aftermath of a devastating EMP, finding a working vehicle is no easy task. And with every moment, the danger grows as they race against time.
Desperation drives them toward Spokane where a rumored contact may hold the key to restoring power across the nation. But their path is fraught with crumbling roads, ruthless predators, and a washed-out bridge that threatens to stop them for good. When their truck grinds to a halt and leaves them stranded, they must risk a dangerous trip to a junkyard defended by dangerous thugs.
Zeke is right behind them, growing closer by the hour. And as they push forward, they’re reminded that he’s not the only threat lurking in the shadows—Voss is still out there, and he’s far from finished with them…
Grace Hamilton is the prepper pen-name for a bad-ass, survivalist momma-bear of four kids, and wife to a wonderful husband. After being stuck in a mountain cabin for six days following a flash flood, she decided she never wanted to feel so powerless or have to send her kids to bed hungry again. Now she lives the prepper lifestyle and knows that if SHTF or TEOTWAWKI happens, she’ll be ready to help protect and provide for her family.
Combine this survivalist mentality with a vivid imagination (as well as a slightly unhealthy day dreaming habit) and you get a prepper fiction author. Grace spends her days thinking about the worst possible survival situations that a person could be thrown into, then throwing her characters into these nightmares while trying to figure out "What SHOULD you do in this situation?"
It’s her wish that through her characters, you will get to experience what life will be like and essentially learn from their mistakes and experiences.
When Grace Hamilton announced that she’d be expanding the world of Small Town EMP, and that we were going to pick up where the story left off, I was pretty excited. Through the first of the entry into this second part of the series it felt like returning to some old friends but it took me a minute to get back into the story. With this second entry in the sequel series, I was already fully engaged and ready to go. And this one didn’t disappoint. We have a new archnemesis and the story is a fireworks display of excitement. I was extremely satisfied at the end of this one and I can’t wait for the third (sixth) installment (I don’t want to say final book) in the series. Keep ‘em coming!
This is book 5 of the series and I have to say seriously?! I mean seriously?! Can anything go right for these people?! Anything? Anything at all! How many more dead ends will they reach? How many more places will they have to go? How many more people will they have to meet before actually getting to someone that can actually help?
I admit I was salty about Savannah's character in the past couple of books but I liked her a lot more in this one. She’s redeemed herself somewhat to me. There’s a lot of evil and angry in this series but I’m glad to see it’s being balanced out somewhat by some of the people they meet. I liked the community at the farm and I’m hoping that maybe they will be able to go back at some point.
When Malachi has a run-in with men scouting around Grangeville, it's a close call. Thankfully, for him, Amanda is nearby and evens up the odds in the skirmish.
It's finally decided that Amanda, Austin, Savannah, Malachi & Andy will go to Spokane but with Zeke & his men nearby it would be too risky to go on foot they need a vehicle and they know someone who has a Sunrader but he won't hand it over freely or easily! They'll have to work smart to broker a deal for it and then work hard in exchange for the sunrader.
A slow burn chase through an art gallery, where they speak to Professor Novak, who gives him papers to take on to someone in Seattle. When a strange man gains entry to the gallery and talks to Elizabeth Novak, who perhaps naively, or because she is so ill ends up revealing secrets & details about Austins grouo without realising it. The old saying the enemy of your enemy is your friend comes into action when Zeke joins forces with this stranger. The art gallery is soon surrounded. Novak explains a possible escape route via an old speakeasy and underground tunnels, but the group are followed by Zeke who is determined to get back what he thinks belongs to him, his nephew Andy. It leads to a standoff on a stage. Zeke is taking revenge on Austin, demanding an exchange.. Austin for Andy. The group really works together like a military unit now. They each have their strengths and use them to protect each other and fight when there's no other option.
Then the group race to the airfield to see if they can make contact with Novaks associate to take them on to Seattle, but when they get to the airfield something seems amiss and sure enough soneone has beaten them there. Theres a shoot out with Voss ....then rushing to the skies triumphant in escaping and finally being on their way to Seattle only for the planes fuel injector to cause issues....now a quick landing but where, will it be safe and how are they going to get to Seattle now? They've also unknowingly left some unfinished business, which I am sure will cause them issues in the future.
The relationships in the book really add to the plot, etc, such as the relationship between Savannah & Andy continues to strengthen. Andy really looks to her for direction, like a mother figure. Malachi really makes a difficult choice between staying with his mother Tonya & helping at the ministry or going with the group going to Spokane. Savannah & Malachi continue growing together, at a time they should have been planning cute gifts & dates for each other, they are protecting one another from those who wish to harm them and their extended group that is more like family. Austin naturally wants to keep Savannah with him and in a place of safety, but he is learning and accepting that his daughter is a very capable young woman. He approves of the budding romance between Savannah & Malachi and adores Andy. The young boy Savannah found & brought home and is prepared to give his life protecting him.
My immediate thoughts upon finishing reading the book were, Wow! A cliffhanger leaving the fate of our favourite characters quite literally up in the air, and then a danger they thought they'd finally gotten rid of is getting regrouping and planning to get revenge! There are lots of tense moments with some great action scenes, too.
Summing up, there are lots of tense moments with some great action scenes, too. A slow burn chase, through underground tunnels, then to an airfield shootout and a high flying cliffhanger.
End of the world and after the disaster books hold a certain fascination to me. Life as we know it can change in an instant as it does for the characters in Grace Hamilton's series. I have read alot of her books and they are all fresh, no retelling the same story over and over. The fact that she can write so many unique versions of a catastrophe means I am well educated on how to get from point a to point b before, during and after an event.
I'm not quite sure how Grace Hamilton manages to keep her stories fresh and her characters realistic, but as long as she keeps writing them, I'll keep reading them.
Survive the Trap is book five in the Small Town EMP series. I recommend you start this series from book one, Survive the Chaos, to fully understand the intense journey the characters go on. This is a well written post apocalyptic, captivating read with well developed characters, unexpected twists, and descriptive writing that made this a page turner. I can't wait to read the next book in this amazing series. I recommend this book, this series, and this author to everyone. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
"Survive Trap: Book 5 of the Small-Town EMP series" is yet another remarkable installment in this ongoing saga. Grace Hamilton masterfully continues the tale of survival following an EMP that drastically changes the known world. This continues on and builds on the characters who go through so much on their journey (but that keeps the story alive). As we go more and more along their journey the relationships become deeper and you get more invested and what to see what happens next.
I like reading Grace Hamilton books in this genre as they are clean but have an element of realism to them so you can identify with the characters even though you never want to be there.
What a rush! The constant danger, gun fights flaring and bullets flying makes for exciting reading. Austin and his family must feel like the rats they’re called, always running and hiding or fighting back. And they always continue trying to find that next person to help stop evil from taking over. It’s a most exciting read, and I’m very pleased there’s another episode coming
Survive The Trap definitely delivers with the on going drama for Austin Amanda, Savannah, Malachi and Andy plus the two dogs. The danger is one step behind them. Very exciting and thrilling read. Great series !
I did enjoy this part of the adventure, lots of high tension & high stress moments, good follow on for the storyline. I do like EMP stories as you never know what to expect, a good fun read!
Intense and fun! Nothing ever seems to go right for these people, but I’m okay with that. 😂 The suspense keeps you going until the very last page. Can’t wait for the finale!
Andy, Austin, Malachi, Amanda, and the rest of the team are traveling to Spokane, a safe haven. Zeke and his group are still pursuing them, so their trip is not safe. Until they locate them and recover what was taken from him, Zeke and his group will not give up.
When they discovered that their last safe haven in Idaho was not as secure as they had first believed, they were forced to leave. For their trip, they had to locate a working vehicle, but that is not always easy.
On the road, they have a flat tire, and the nearest place to get a tire is the junkyard, and the closest location to get a new tire is the junkyard, which is unsafe due to the unfriendly guards. But our gang is far more intelligent than most people realize. The guards at the junkyard are clueless about who they are interacting with. It might be far more difficult than they think to keep their junkyard safe.
I was captivated with Survive the Trap from the beginning to the end. I was unable to stop reading once I got going. I simply cannot get enough of this series, Small Town EMP, which I adore. Although I am aware that it is most likely not possible, I wish it could go on forever. However, one may hope, right?
The sixth book, Survive the Turmoil, is scheduled for release on June 11, 2025, and I am eager to read it.
I highly recommend Survive the Trap to all end-of-the-world survival fans! Grab a copy of Survive the Trap today!
The story continues with the Merriman's in search of Dr. Novak in Spokane in hopes of finding a way to save America. Meanwhile Andy's Uncle Zeke is continuing to threaten the Merriman Group in an effort to take custody of Andy. The Merriman's are able to arrange transportation by bargaining to get a camper for their trip to Spokane. While in Spokane, the Merriman's meet up with Dr. Novak and are still being threatened by Zeke and Voss. The journey is not over yet as they are still on their quest as they head to Seattle. This is a great read that keeps you interested in what is going to happen next. The characters are believable and you care about them. You care about what happens to them as they encounter difficulties during their travels.
