I’ve known Rick Shockey for years and have seen the care and effort he put into Hardy’s Heroes. His passion for the armed services and for the state of West Virginia makes this a meaningful addition to WWII history. The chapter on Elwood Washington is exceptionally interesting, and the story of Carl Bean and Exercise Tiger shines a much needed light on the heroes of Exercise Tiger.
Overall, this volume is a heartfelt and powerful tribute to Hardy County, West Virginia heroes!
If you like history, and specifically, war history with a personal connection, then this book is for you. Rick Shockey's first book about the Hardy County war heroes is told here in great detail. A well written book you can't put down. Can't wait for part 2 and 3 to come out (coming in 2025)
