A.J. Park deftly subverted my expectations with this one, gradually winning over my skeptical self with a romance that evolved in a surprising way.

What sets this book apart is its keen focus on change and character development. Through skillful storytelling, the author gradually peels back layers of complexity, revealing the depths of each character and shifting reader perceptions along the way. There is depth and nuance to these characters and their perceptions of one another.

Despite its fast-paced action, it does not sacrifice world-building or character development. Instead, it strikes a perfect balance, delivering a story that is both thrilling and richly detailed. While there are moments that feel a little bit clumsy and predictable, particularly in some plot developments, the overall experience remains enjoyable.

This one feels pretty unique in numerous ways. It's a testament to the author's skill that they can take familiar tropes and breathe new life into them, creating a story that feels fresh and compelling.

This book took a while for me to get into it, and the names were cumbersome and confusing at times. I did finally find my flow and get into the plot. The story was entertaining, and I'd love to see how it continues for Tally.

While this book has some interesting fantasy elements—stone sleep, royalty, magical artifacts—it is underdeveloped. I felt that the author could have given readers more insight into how the kingdom was created, what the stone and stone sleep were, and even more time/opportunities to understand the two protagonists.

Currently, the protagonists seem fairly one dimensional and most of their romantic development occurs during a plot tactic (memory loss) that I felt was the easy way out. It didn’t seem realistic that Andeavor would completely change his mind so soon. There needed to be more conflict and time for the two to really develop their relationship as it feels rushed and lacks chemistry.

It took me longer than usual to finish this novel but the later half picks up. Three stars for solid effort.

Free book ! It was nice, I've already appreciated the writer with other books!

This one was very very predictable, no twist, and it is the reason why I've put only 3 🌟

The good think the story's end, no cliffhanger… and well written

But I also like when books are more longer, it was too short for me (it is just my preferences)

I really enjoyed this story! I was not able to put it down once I started reading.
The book is short and fast-paced, but has a good amount of world building packed in there, as well as character building and development.

I loved Tally as a character. She is clever, stubborn, and tough as nails, but still down to earth. I felt a connection with her straight away. I loved that she was too smart to be fooled by any schemes and that she always put her people first.

The author did a great job with making Andevaar and Flint total opposites of each other. One is despicable, and the other is so sweet and loveable that you never want to let him go.
Including Flint's dreams was a great way to include his past and let us see his reasons for the choices he made.

The deity and the actions surrounding Her are very interesting. I'm hoping this will be explored further in future books.

If you like adventure books with a strong heroine, villains, betrayal, clean romance, and a happy ending. Then this book might be for you.

It’s been a great read, a road full of interesting twists and choices!

The story was fast-paced. The descriptions and the world building were well done. The magic system was simple yet well thought and challenging, setting the limits for the story, and I felt it was a nice touch.

The ending ties everything well. It’s clear it’s part of a bigger story, and you may be left wanting for more.

It was a fun journey with good characters, who are either lovable or hateable, but each had its own reasons to act the way they do. The characters learn and grow, some more than others. The dynamics among them all were nice. Secondary characters were also nicely done, not an excuse for characterization.

It’s a clean romance story. A YA, enemies-to-lovers epic fantasy read with a main female character that knows how to look after herself, and a main male character that gets his beliefs shaken, when he was so close to commit to his goal.

I really loved reading this story.
It is about a crowned princess, Tally, who will stop at nothing to save her people from traitors and outlaws. She seeks out an ally who can help her with the one trying to take over her kingdom, Andevaar. When Andevaar/Flint forgets who he is and his purpose, he also forgets about the one thing that can save Tally's kingdom. The last thing she expects is fall in love with Andevaar/Flint but will he do the right thing.
I love how Tally is always wanting to flee and forget about everything and everyone but she keeps trudging on because it is the right things to do, it was what her father would want her to do, and she does not want to let her people down. Also, I love Andevaar's transformation into Flint and then back again and the struggle he goes through to figure what he should do versus what he had planned all along.
Great for any age.

Very strong 4 star!!!

I loooved the story! Very unusual with the stone Goddess and the worldbuilt is not something I read a lot about! So it was refreshingly new of my usual YA style I read.

The characters are great (even I shaved A in my mind to get his beard off ;)) the heroine warrior-princess is cool and badboy rebellion leader is awesome!

It had a great start and lots and lots of adventures. I saw a a bit slowdown at the Flint-Tally meeting and while it was a nice buildup to the love story. And again everything speed up towards the end.

So all in all awesome story! Great built-up and loved both the luv-story and adventure!

So Im absolutely curious for b2. Maybe any chance for a D&M story?

I loved this book enormously but I especially loved Tally.

As somebody whose favorite books are primarily fantasy books published from 2003 to 2013, this was a major blast from the past. Pretty much everything I loved in those books is in this one and it was so fun to be able to turn my brain off and just read a book like I did then.

Tally was a brilliant female protagonist, stubborn and caring and just… so incredibly cool it kind of broke my brain a little. That was a fun experience all around and if you enjoyed Goose Girl by Shannon Hale, I encourage you to read this book as well. And vice versa.

I loved everything about this book, so much so I’m basically incoherent about it. So please, please pick this up. I personally, will probably end up buying a physical copy of this despite owning a Kindle already because it's just That Good.

An interesting concept for the new series about how everyone is shaped by the circumstances of their life, their character and their righteousness.
Is leading a privilege or a burden? It is both, but it depends on the leader to undertake responsibility for the well-being of all or the easy way of prioritizing their own self.
By focusing on duty and avoiding killing, Tally decides to take the enemy's memories away. By losing his memories, Flint finds himself. And by finding love, they both put the world to rights.

So, it depends on the leader who they are followed by, and it depends on each one who they follow - if there is a choice.

This story was a wild ride from start to finish. At no point did I know what was going to happen next, in part because I'm accustomed to main characters who make intelligent decisions.

There are a lot of world-build elements that are really neat in this story. It's good to see a world in which deities are active participants in the plot, and the magic system is interesting.

I would have rated the story higher if the princess or king actually seemed like competent rulers, or if the general and guards weren't comically bad at their jobs. All that said, I'm still giving it three stars because I did finish it.

Overall, I did enjoy this story. By the end, I wanted to know what was next. There were some things that I wish were more touched on and fleshed out. The plot itself should have been a bit more thought out. There wasn't a lot of world building and history of the country and magic system. For me, it was a detriment and left me confused. This book could have been even 50 pages longer and it would have been better. I do love the characters, and the romance building between Tally and Flint. It really worked even though I was skeptical at first. I want to see what else is in store between Tally and Flint.

A. J. Parks hits it out of the park with another story that hooks you from the first page and doesn't let go until the end. Her characters are well developed, bold and driven. Her mfc Tally is strong and stubborn and not afraid to fight for her people. We get to see two completely different sides of her mmc which A. J. pulls off brilliantly. There is plenty of action, twists and turns and surprises you don't see coming. She beautifully weaves her world building skills vividly and brilliantly throughout the story. Having read only two of her books now, and I hope to read more, I am definitely a fan. An absolute must read!

I started this book after work and ended up finishing it in one sitting. It absolutely was a page turner, and such a fun and easy read!

I really like the story! I thought it was going to be a lot more predictable. However, there were some twists that I was not expecting!!
I really hope the story continues soon so we can see the next phase of Crown Princess Tahlea.

I feel the overall theme is younger YA however there is some violence that may push it toward older YA.

This book was pure entertainment! The kind that sweeps you away for a whole day before you know the day has even passed! The Character development was smooth and the chapters blended seamlessly into an action packed, romantic, fantastical story that made me so sorry for it to end.

I feel like that this story was left in such a way that a second book could be written. Maybe the author has not yet decided, but it would be a shame for this story to end.

This book had so many things that I enjoy reading.
Strong heroine ✔️
Hero who will do anything for her ✔️
Outstanding worldbuilding ✔️
A well-thought-out plot ✔️
Happy ending ✔️
A stunning cover ✔️

The only thing it was missing was emotion. I didn't feel attached to the characters because instead of feeling what they felt and living what they were going through, it seemed like I was being told the story. Like most people, I love a good story, but when I read, I want to be invested in it, to live it.

This book sets the stage for an epic story! There are parts of the story that can be a trigger regarding abuse, but I love the way that the main female character overcame it and showed herself stronger than the abusers! There are battles, but no language and any passion resulted in only kisses. I can see where there could very well be at least one more story here.
I recommend this if you like adventure, clean romance, and good conquering evil!

Great book with lots of twists and action. The Main FMC is great!! Absolutely loved her!! The world building is excellently woven into the story so it does not seem like you have to work at imagining the world that this takes place in. In fact the entire story pulls you in from the beginning.

Though the story was promising, and overall interesting, I feel that it was too simple, predictable; so were the characters. For this reason I think it would be perfect for young teens.

1 million stars. Infinity Stars. All the stars. “Forgotten Rebellion” is one of my favorite books of the year, if not my favorite so far. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book! It’s a captivating read and has the best, healthiest version of enemies-to-lovers I have ever read. I loved the dichotomy of Tally vs. Crown Princess Tahlea and Flint vs. Andevaar. The “magic” in this world was unique and added to the setting. Sign me up for all future books in this series. If you love epic fantasy, strong-willed heroines, tough and sweet heroes, beautiful landscapes, magical kingdoms, and complex side characters, READ THIS BOOK.

Also, this book does not end in a cliffhanger. If you avoid book series until they are complete due to fear of cliffs, don’t worry here. While the author leaves room for more in this world, I was so satisfied with the ending. Full review of the book on Back Shelf Books. Thanks to the author for an advanced review copy of the book.

Great story with lots of action and a strong heroine

I really enjoyed this book. First, I love the cover of a beautiful woman dressed in armor, holding a sword, with a mythical background. The book is a YA fantasy but can be enjoyed by all ages. It’s an enemies-to-lovers romance with a twist. The princess takes away her enemy's memory to stop him from taking over her kingdom. Without his memory, he doesn’t know who she is and saves her life more than once. I wondered how the author would pull off a convincing story about these two people with vastly different backgrounds falling in love. A J Park does a great job with lots of actions, danger, and a slow-building romance. It’s a fast, fun read with a strong woman heroine who is a skilled fighter.
I’d recommend it for older teens as it gets a little dark when Tally gets captured on more than one occasion.
