When Will's grumpy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside (and incidentally very hot) neighbor and maybe friend asks for Will to be his fake boyfriend for a Christmas party thrown by his sisters, Will jumps at the chance. Will has been pining dramatically for a while now, convinced that nothing would ever come of his feelings since he is an aging twink hairstylist obsessed with old movies and Charlie is the stern, older professor type. The party will give him a chance to live what he wants, so of course he says yes.
But a little spiked eggnog and some mistletoe help him realize he hasn't been the only one pining.
I'm R. Cooper, a somewhat absentminded, often distracted, writer of queer romance. I'm probably most known for the Being(s) in Love series and The Suitable 'Verse stories. Also the occasional story about witches or firefighters in love.

So very lovely short story about Charlie and Will (from Play It Again, Charlie) in an AU. I loved to see both men in a slightly different setting. Would have loved to follow them back to Charlie's apartment, too ;)
This short story is available on smashwords ("you set the price").
Cute idea - I felt like something was missing in the execution, though these characters are apparently part of a full length book, so will reserve critical comments as I may have missed context from that book.
4 Stars This was a enjoyable quick read that was an AU version of Play it again Charlie I loved seeing the characters again and now want to reread the original
