Gorgeous George And The ZigZag Zit-Faced Zombies

Rate this book
Sneezing, sniffing, snogging and snots! Zombies, zebras and zits!

A chemical experiment by the military has gone wrong and the toxins are now airborne. The pupils of Little Pumpington primary school are breathing in the gas and their behaviour is becoming bonkers.

Do you still pick your nose? Do you sit next to someone in school who stills picks their nose? Do they eat it, even in secret, underneath their hand when they think no one else is watching? The Little Pumpington nose-pickers are taking over the school and their own bogies are not enough any more; they need to eat everybody else’s too.
These psychotic snot-zombies are on the rampage, feasting on the nostril contents of the entire town and the army will do nothing to prevent them.

Can Gorgeous George, Allison and Crayon Kenny find a cure before the military decide to blow up the school? With the help of Grandpa Jock, Ben and Barbara and a box full of the tissues, they must stop the snot-zombies biting their booger-crusted fingernails to the bone.
Parents will not be able to read this book. This book is for strong-stomached children only so no wimps need apply. This is last taboo known to mankind and way beyond the comprehension of adults. The older you are, the yuckier this book will be. You have been warned!

Must…..have….bogiieeeeeeeeeeeeeees!

Gorgeous George and the ZigZag Zit-faced Zombies is the another brilliant book in the Gorgeous George series. The action packed, bogie dribbling follow up to Gorgeous George & the Giant Geriatric Generator.

Stuart Reid is an award winning children’s writing talent who is rapidly growing in stature. Gorgeous George & The Giant Geriatric Generator (illustrated by Calvin Innes) was his first book and also the first in the Gorgeous George series. The book picked up the Forward National Literature Award 2012 for Middle Grade Fiction. The follow up, Gorgeous George & The ZigZag Zit-Faced Zombies was released in January 2013 and enjoyed a unique launch with dozens of schools across the UK taking part in Snot Zombie Fun Days, designed to promote reading and literacy.

Stuart is one of the busiest children’s authors around having embarked on a full time book reading tour in August 2011, appearing at between 5 and 10 schools a week. So far he has read to quarter of a million children, and presented at over 2,000 schools, book stores and venues. He has presented at the London Book Fair and is performing every day for a month during 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Stuart is a member of the Society of Authors and is a member of The Scottish Book Trust.

The Wigtown Book Festival described him as : “Absolutely Brilliant!”

Stuart has been married for nearly twenty years. He has two children, a superman outfit and a spiky haircut.

Stuart is one of the busiest children’s authors around. His current book reading tour has seen him reading to over 250,000 children throughout the world, including book events in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, India, Hong Kong and Australia.

Stuart’s uniquely entertaining readings are wild, wacky, crude, rude and hilariously fun for everyone involved. There are plenty of bogies, farts and false teeth flying. And because he talks to little people a lot, he has developed the ‘Ninja Signing Stance’, in order to come down to their eye level.

The Zigzag Zit-faced Zombies is follow up to Gorgeous George & The Giant Geriatric Generator. I love these titles, in fact I really love these books!

Beware though, if you are a parent, do take a look through the stories before handing them over to your little ones to read. This story has some pretty gross themes - there are loads and loads of bogies - described explicitly, enough to make your stomach turn over, but children will adore the writing - especially little boys.

Nose picking, zombies and lots and lots of bogies - all illustrated perfectly by Calvin Innes. Stuart Reid has created a world that is stomach-churning at times, but so funny, so engaging and just perfect for slightly older children.

Gorgeous George has his own webpage, check it out at www.gorgeousgeorgebooks.com - you can find loads of information about the author, the books and all of the characters.

Stuart Reid does lots of school visits, a list of the schools that he is due to visit can be found on the website too.

A memorable and entertaining book. I am not likely to forget this in a hurry and am sure my 7 year old will remind me if I do.
I have to admit the part about the little girl licking dirty crusty boogers off the table completely icked me out. It made my son emit an enormous 'Ewww' and then a five minute fit of giggles. He spent a good part of the next day seeing if he could disgust his older siblings with the tale.
I really like the odd running commentary that the author has included of himself warning the faint hearted and the easily icked out (insert my name here) to not read any further, especially when it comes to the last chapters. I ignored the warning and kind of wish I hadn't. *Shudder*
I would put this at a reading level age 8 upwards. It contains a lot of text so if you have a reluctant reader you might want to do it a few pages at a time. Alternatively you can read it to your child. A lot of the wit is what I would deem not as easy to understand for very young readers. Example:'Phone the Scottish Intelligence then. Scottish Intelligence? There's a contradiction in terms.'
Aside from the obvious swipe at the Scots that quip is more suited for a reader who will understand the reference, as opposed to the younger one who might need it explained.
The illustrations by Calvin Innes make the words and images of Reid come alive. Perhaps a little too much at times. Boogers, snot and all sorts of not exactly pretty looking glibber and goo seem to ooze out of every orifice.
What I enjoyed the most about this book is the way it will entice a specific type of reader to pick up a book. The type that finds reading a chore and books quite boring. By using a topic and visual images that will attract many with the delightfully disgusting Snot and Zit Zombies the author and illustrator are opening up a whole new world for some readers. It just takes the right book at the right time to create a reader.
I received a free copy of this book for my review.
