A weaving of biblical wisdom, keen insights into human behavior, and personal reflection prompts, Being Fully Known tackles the negative self-talk and limiting beliefs that leave us stuck in lives that are not our own.
The world pressures us to do. God invites us to be. In this freeing book, Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith speaks to all of us who hold back because we fear vulnerability or rejection. Using her background as a physician, spiritual mentor, and coach, Dr. Saundra helps us bridge the disconnect between the wanting to express our true selves and the beliefs that keep us in fear-based living.
Structured with the option to be used as part of a 21-day fast, Being Fully Known blends Scripture, science, and story to offer insights into how we can:
discover where we naturally fit rather than forcing ourselves to fit in embrace the fullness of our identity apart from our assumed roles overcome mental barriers that cause us to seek accomplishment over contentment reconnect with the courage to live into what God sees in us experience greater joy in our relationships, career, and creative expression
Being Fully Known is a journey toward God-awareness, self-acceptance, and the fulfillment found in knowing we are seen and understood. Step into your God-given, joy-filled identity as you follow the mentoring of the Holy Spirit through this life-changing guide to being over doing.
So many of us long to be fully known, not just by others but also by ourselves. Who did God create us to be? What is my identity in Christ? What is my purpose? Being Fully Known walks us through three important steps: beholding, becoming, and belonging to embrace our authentic selves. As you read through each section, you will find yourself highlighting many passages as you feel seen by the author and know she has walked this path herself! Through her wisdom and personal stories, she also includes how many of us need to work through previous trauma, which is not only relatable but also a valuable tool to get us started on the road to authenticity and fulfilling our God-given purpose!
Life’s unexpected twists and turns often leave us questioning our purpose and identity. In Being Fully Known, the author offers a deeply personal and theologically rich exploration of what it means to be truly seen, loved, and transformed by God.
The book’s central message revolves around the idea that true joy isn’t found in external success or fleeting happiness, but in an intimate relationship with Christ. It speaks directly to those who have experienced unhealed trauma, describing it as a “bully of the soul” that weighs down the spirit and manifests in the body. Through scripture, personal reflections, and practical wisdom, the author guides readers on a journey toward healing and self-discovery.
One of the book’s strengths is its ability to take profound theological concepts and present them in a way that feels both accessible and deeply personal. The themes of belonging, identity, and spiritual growth are woven throughout, encouraging readers to embrace their brokenness as a pathway to a fuller life in Christ.
For those facing seasons of change, uncertainty, or emotional wounds, Being Fully Known serves as both a comforting companion and a call to deeper faith. It challenges readers to move beyond survival mode and step into the abundant life that comes from truly knowing and being known by God.
A heartfelt, thought-provoking read, this book is a must for anyone seeking healing, identity, and the courage to embrace their faith in the ordinary moments of life.
"Being Fully Know" is about becoming "aware of how God is moving in you and through you." The author talked about how people hold back from being vulnerable or from doing what they believe God is calling them to do for fear of rejection. About not getting stuck thinking things are impossible for you but basing our thoughts and actions on God's truth. When we fear we're unlovable, remember God's steadfast love. Stop negative thought cycles, and allow the Holy Spirit's power to fully be at work in your life. Recognizing God's presence, seeing ourselves as God does, and surrendering to God.
She talked about how normal life can hold opportunities to do God's work and show his love, but also about being willing to stretch beyond your comfort zone to do something God's calling you to do. At the end of each chapter, she provided 3 Bible verses and how to apply them in your life. There were also 3 questions to help you think about what she said in the chapter. At the end of the book, there's a brief section with tips for a 21 day fast from media, certain foods, etc. The author used personal stories to illustrate what she was teaching, and her writing style was casual and encouraging. Overall, I'd recommend this insightful book.

The words that come to mind as I think of Being Fully Known are LIVING WATERS!
Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith’s latest book, Being Fully Known, is living water for the parched soul. In this book I was invited to enter into the rest and peace that comes with truly beholding God.
As a holistic health coach, I understand deeply the need for soul renewal and in this book Dr. Dalton-Smith beautifully articulates how our need for affirmation and belonging is satisfied in Christ alone. So often we exhaust ourselves trying to be "enough" yet Being Fully Known invites us to exhale, releasing the weight of striving and settling into God’s abundant grace.
Being Fully Known is a must-read for anyone longing to experience the joy, rest and peace that comes from intimacy with God. If you are weary, searching, or simply desiring a richer connection with the One who knows you completely, this book will be a balm to your soul. I cannot wait to bring this book to the Inspired Life community as our 1st quarter 2025 book club reading.
The past few years have been marked by painful endings (the loss of my mom), beautiful beginnings (the birth of my first grand child) and unexpected changes (being diagnosed with breast cancer and caring for mom in our home during the last year of her life). But once I made it to the other side of what felt like unending transitions, some days I felt lost and like I didn't know who I was or what I wanted to do with my life.
Being Fully Known is exactly what my heart needed to help me get to know the woman God created me to be in this new and unfamiliar season. Like a cherished letter from a good friend and wise mentor, Dr. Dalton-Smill, helps us find our way out of feeling stuck and leads you on a journey of discovering your God-given potential no matter what life has or will look like -- in the past, present or future!

Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2025 In a world that often pressures us to conform, there’s something profoundly liberating about truly being known. This book captures that sentiment perfectly, offering wisdom and insights that resonate deeply in our current times. Each chapter is filled with valuable nuggets, but if I had to highlight one, it would be Chapter 17, Unearthed Potential. In this chapter, the author beautifully explores the idea that many people are stuck in a place of struggle, yet if we allow the seed of God’s Word to take root in our suffering, it can yield a harvest of hope. It’s a powerful reminder that growth often comes from our most difficult experiences. This book is a must-read for anyone seeking to experience the joy and fulfillment of truly beholding, becoming, and belonging. Highly recommended!

This book has spoken directly to my heart as I read about beholding the blessings of God’s unfailing & faithful love, His true joy, His sovereignty & peace, His kindness & compassion & His pure goodness as I pursue holiness & righteousness. I found the practical application & daily unveiling exercises to be helpful as I work to become what I behold God to be. The section on belonging spoke personally to me as I have chosen the word “Belonging” as my Word of the Year for 2025. I now realize that only through belonging in God’s abundant blessings in every aspect of my life will I find my sacred work & my true place of belonging to God & with others. I recommend this book if you are searching for true meaning in truly & fully knowing God, yourself & your place of belonging.
Simple, honest, and life-changing. Definitely worth reading!
This book is exactly what I needed. It’s about being real with yourself and God. Dr. Dalton-Smith mixes biblical principles with science insights in a way that’s easy to follow. She talks about how we hide behind masks or fear what others think, and she gently pushes you to drop all that.
Each chapter has questions to think about, which helped me dig into my own stuff. I loved how she uses personal stories and scripture to show that being “known” isn’t scary—it’s freeing. She doesn’t sugarcoat the hard parts (like fear or feeling unworthy), but she gives hope instead of just saying “try harder.”
If you want to feel more real and connected to God, read this. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being you.
