Nothing is as it seems in the land of Mystery

Welcome to sleazy Shigaqua, capital of Noir, where the line blurs most between friend and foe, mentor and monster, and victim and villain.

Among the dense population of law enforcers and private investigators, Aeron Spade has a unique edge to solve crime: he can visit the dead in his dreams. With the help of his ghostly friends (including Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, and Auguste Dupin), Aeron is determined to use his gift to bring justice against the city's most elusive criminals. He's on track to become the newest recruit of Noir's most prestigious private investigations agency, but first, he must prove his mettle by solving the dead-end case of a young boy's murder in a haunted theater.

Lacking support from the police or his potential employer, Aeron must use his own resources to defend the accused and find the real killer. However, Aeron's few living contacts are occupied with treacherous cases that dredge up his paralyzing fears and threaten to expose his true identity. In a city teeming with mobsters and sleuths, keeping his own secrets may be more challenging than uncovering those of a vengeful poltergeist.

Join Aeron's haunted cases in Specter Inspector, book one of the Dead and Back Again series, and follow-up of C. Rae D'Arc's Haunted Romance trilogy.

I read this as a beta reader. It's not quite finished yet, but it's so fun!
Whether you've read the Haunted Romance series or not, learning about Aeron and his adventures in the land of Mystery is fun, intriguing, and full of action! Aeron is a well-balanced kid (now adult) with all of his experiences living in so many places, with all the people he's met and the challenges he's survived. Now, he's ready to solve crimes as a private investigator!
The characters he meets along the way bring out the best in him, and I'm excited to see more in this series!
I loved the references back to Aeron's parents and Uncle Oz and, of course, the lands of Romance, Fantasy, and Horror.

This cozy horror (you read that right.) was pleasantly surprising. Loved all the little Easter eggs from the different lands. And quirks the characters have from their atmospheres.

I got to read this as a beta reader. And loved every minute! I don’t usually read this genre. But it’s got the perfect level of cozy. With a similar feel to this authors debut series. You feel as though you’ve walked onto the set of a black and white murder mystery.

Welcome to the afterlife with Aeron. A witty, confident and aspiring PI. Together with help from his friends on the other side. Aeron embarks to show his talent and hard work aren’t only in his dreams. Can Aeron figure out this who-don-it in time?

Specter Inspector (Series Title: Dead and Back Again) is a second series following the Haunted Romance trilogy by C. Rae D’Arc. No prior reading is necessary, however. It is set in a magical world named Novel where each country is representative of a literary genre.
Aeron Spade is a recent graduate from a Mystery school. Though he was born in Fantasy (and is thus, a Fantastic), his greatest desire is to become a detective in Mystery. A leading detective firm in Noir promises to hire him if he solves a cold case. Aeron has an advantage over other candidates, though. At night, when he sleeps, he talks to the dead.
The concept of this novel receives full marks. Specter Inspector is a blend of the mystery and urban fantasy genres with humor and romance mixed in. As an urban fantasy, it succeeds in all the right ways. This book has fun introducing fantastical elements to an everyday world. As a mystery, it provides clues and concludes the story satisfactorily. And the humor the author pulls out of all of this is rich and wonderful. There are a lot of threads happening simultaneously. You will get your money’s worth.
Specter Inspector should satisfy bibliophiles of many different genres similar to the world it’s set in.
