Donovan Scott witnessed a crazed animal attack his mother when he was a child, and his family has not been the same since. As an adult he comes to learn that the animal is a demon from a hellish world beneath our own, and that it wants to be free to walk among mankind. In order to do so, however, it needs a host, and it has chosen Donovan's family for its terrible plans.
I've been writing since middle school. First it was short stories, and then movie scripts, and now it's novels. I've even turned some of my scripts into books because I'm not much of a filmmaker. I recently hit the big 30 and decided it was time to publish some of my work.
I would love to hear from others about what they think. I published my first book, "The Devil's Demeanor," on May 26th and have many more planned in the future.
If you’re a fan of demons then you’ll be pleased with this book. It’s scary from start to finish. This poor family has lots of bad stuff happening to them. The book has demons disguised as dogs, demons hiding inside people to do terrible things, people being pulled apart and scattered about. I shudder just writing the words.
The novel is very gory and thrilling, and may turn some people off, but it's definitely worth a read if you like scary stuff. Plenty of plot twists. I can see this being on the Syfy Channel.
This book turned out better then expected.A lot of twists and turns kept me on the edge of my sit ,I ended up reading it cover to cover unable to put it down
I don't really like the style of this book which put me off it from the very start. It jumps from an incident to something else ahead in time without telling you anything that happened in between or making this leap into the future seem essential to the plot. It left me feeling lost in the plot and wondering what had happened in between these glimpses into a story, which is how I would describe it. It couldn't really be described as a full story with so many missing bits.
The writing style itself also featured one of my pet hates-tell instead of show. Stephen did this. Stephen met Lucy. Stephen had bad dream. Lucy is pregnant. Lucy plans wedding. It felt more like you were reading a script or notes for a play or something. It never felt like a real book. There was no connection to the characters, no emotion or warmth in them and frankly no interesting moments at all. And because all these main incidents in Stephen's life happen back to back with nothing in between, it all feels very rushed.
Let me first start by saying the horror genre is not something I usually read. That being said, The Devil's Demeanor is not half bad. The bulk of Part 1 follows a character named Don from his childhood to adulthood. He struggles with the thought that he may have a demonic curse, or maybe it is all just in his head. Part 2 reunites us with Don as he continues to struggle with his curse, but to make matters worse, his nephew and his own son are showing signs of being cursed as well. The story takes some unexpected turns as he tires, once and for all, to end the curse, figuratively and literally, tearing apart his family. At times, this book is written very matter-of-fact, like a police report, which brings out the shock when something out of the ordinary happens. It's slice-of-life storytelling with vivid detail makes for an eerie experience. If you like Stephen King, you'll most likely enjoy this story by Jerry Hart.
Donovan has been living in fear his entire life ever since he killed his brother. His brother had been cursed by the devil. Little did Donovan know his brother passed the curse to his son while still in his mother's womb. Donovan too was cursed and he too passed the curse onto his son. This is a wild roller coaster ride of good and evil. It is very well written and the characters are well described. It makes you feel you are actually there in the midst of everything and can also read their minds! Thia is an awesome book and I highly recommend it.
