Fire Ice. Contains ADULT content. The second book in the series of action packed adventures with Max Fortune & Carla Day. With cunning and resourceful characters fighting to survive a nightmare of danger and challenges. Max uncovers a threat to New York while evading capture by the CIA.
Carla is caught in Afghanistan, trying to rescue a woman engineer and has to break into a notorious prison.
What is the diabolical connection between vanishing ships in the Bermuda Triangle and global energy demand? In this mission, the solution to the worlds energy problem is elegantly set out in great detail. In years to come, this process will be thought of in the same way as Jules Verne's prophesy, of the submarine.
In a race against time to prevent a world wide disaster, will their plane crash on a freezing mountainside lead to the end of civilisation?
Can the revolutionary submarine US1 prevent global warming reaching thermal runaway?
A terrorist attack leaves their ship sinking. If Max & Carla fail to keep it afloat, the world will face disaster for centuries to come.
How does a favour uncover a clever criminal, blackmail, murder and a terrorist threat to The London Olympics?
Fire Ice is the second story with Max and Carla, you will need to read Extinction Event first! In this story Carla is in Afghanistan trying to rescue an important woman engineer, and has to get into the prison and then find a way to get the woman out... When two ships vanish in the Bermuda Triangle could they be linked to the global energy demand? Can the submarine US1 prevent global warming reaching thermal runaway? A terrorist attack leaves the ship sinking, will Max and Carla be able to keep it afloat and out of underlying danger? Then when Max and Carla are asked for a favour they find out more than they bargained for: - A clever criminal - A blackmailer - Murder and terrorist threats/plans towards the London Olympics... Will Max and Carla ever have a break? I doubt it.
WOW! John Day has produced another excellent thriller full of suspense, action, crime and adventure. I awarded Fire Ice five stars as I really enjoyed it, it was easy to read and yet again I found myself drawn into Max and Carla's world. You may remember not long ago I reviewed John's first book (Extinction Event), which was also brilliant and I am currently making my way through all of John's book, so expect more reviews! If you are looking for a new author to indulge in I would highly recommend this series so far. Fire Ice is very fast paced and ended on a massive cliffhanger (dun, dun, dun)... So I cannot wait to dive into his third story straight away and see what lies ahead for Max and Carla. If you judge a book by it's cover, DON'T! This is a series you do not want to miss and will make John Day a bestseller in no time. Enjoy, enter Max and Carla's world! I dare you.
Plenty of intrigue on every page. A little long in the tooth chapter to chapter, but then intrigue follows content. Brian (GBR) provides a good narrative (text to speech). On to the third book in the series.
Initial thoughts This is the second book in the Carla and Max series and having loved book 1 I am very much looking forward to continuing the story. First impressions are that it is every bit as gripping as book 1.
Review Book 1 was left on a massive cliffhanger so I was looking forward to reading this book. There is something slightly annoying about having to re-read the final chapter at the beginning of this book I do realise that John has to allow for readers who havent read book 1 but still....
Carla and Max again find themselves in trouble and helping each other and the 'Organisation' out. Carla's sister, Amy, and Max's son James also make an appearance in this book.
Some of the antics and situations are a bit far fetched but it is fiction and makes for a very good read. There is a fair amount of humour threading through the book interlaced with the horror. Most of the character building took place in book 1 and this book develops Carla and Max' relationship and that with James and Amy so I would recommend reading these books in order.
I love John's books there is so much going on all the time that there is no time to get bored as the reader is taken on a rollercoaster ride through the book.
A very gripping book that keeps the reader turning the pages.
I am trying to work out where the stem cells are heading but I am sure all will be revealed in time.
This book ends on another cliffhanger that had me downloading the next book before writing this review. Well worth the 5 stars
“Fire Ice” is a follow-up spy thriller to the well-received “Extinction Event” by John Day. We keep following the story of Max and Carla, a team of spies forking for the mysterious Organization and who live on the edge and loving it! Top it off with exotic locations like Afghanistan, Guadeloupe, Bermuda Triangle and a continuous chain of new dangerous tasks and more sinister villains, and you get yourself a high quality adrenaline-charged read! Wonderful job as always! I read it in two evenings because it was simply impossible to put it down. Five stars.
