USA Today bestselling author Sara Ney sizzles with a quick-witted, sexy romp about an eager entrepreneur and a cocky football star who couldn’t be more different—or more into each other.

Harlow James is destined to rock the dating world. The creator of Kissmet, the app helping singles find love, she’s in New York to secure advertisers. But the sassy, small-town girl can’t help meddling in other people’s business.

When she runs into a muscular stranger at her go-to food truck, Harlow doesn’t realize he’s Landon “Andy” Burke, the NFL’s most-wanted free agent, in town to talk contracts. She just sees a hottie about to get burned by undercooked street food. Though she tries to warn him, he shrugs her off, making a little wager instead.

In a messy twist of fate, Andy finds himself in the same hotel as Harlow. When she collects on their bet, they make a mind-blowing—and bed-rocking—connection. But after the weekend, she goes home to Green Bay to her goofy dad and corgi, ready to focus everything on work again. Kissmet, however, has other ideas, when Andy knocks on her door…

Although I’ve liked some of Sara Ney’s stories in the past, I had a major disconnect with this latest series-starter, finding the whole thing unenjoyable and a whole lot awkward in its execution.

As a fan of sports romances, as well as stories that see famous individuals falling for regular people, I thought the set-up of this story seemed like it had the potential for a lot of fun and romance. But I didn’t vibe the romance OR the character interactions even slightly here, and I found the humour to be extremely cringe in its implementation, to the point that I thought the whole thing came across as quite juvenile (at least, for what I expected from past experiences with this author).

It came down to me not liking these characters very much at all. And I’m not simply talking about the MCs—football superstar Andy and his laughably oblivious love interest Harlow—but, also, ALL of their friends and her very present, very ick-factor-annoying father, who all served to diminish my experience instead of heighten it. Usually, I have a huge soft spot for ensemble casts in my rom-coms, but this just was not it.

When I was ranting at telling my mum about this book the other night over dinner, I think I listed about twelve scenes or moments of dialogue that left me dumbfounded and/or irritated in how they played out. I simply could not believe this was the same author I’d enjoyed in the past, considering how out of sync I felt here with the writing, the romance, the characters, and the overall tone of the story.

I haven’t decided yet whether I’ll continue with this series. I want to keep an open-mind about it, knowing full well that a lot of authors just have their off-moments with certain books, and I wouldn’t want to write Ney off just because I didn’t enjoy one particular story. But then again, having already met and very much disliked the next MC (the vain fuckboy friend), I’m not really feeling all that motivated to give it a whirl, if I’m being honest. But we’ll have to wait and see…

Not Your Biggest Fan by Sara Ney
Not Yours series #1. Contemporary romantic comedy.
Harlow James is behind a man at her favorite food truck in New York when she hears him order chicken. She can’t let him do it. The last time she had chicken from a food truck, she was, well, she regretted it. She tried to warn the muscular stranger, but he just shrugs her off. He’s sure he’ll be fine. When she runs into him at her hotel a few hours later, he’s not fine. He’s been sick and is desperately running for his room. She jokingly mocks him and says just call room 905 when you’re ready for dinner.
Landon “Andy” Burke is an NFL free agent in New York to talk contracts. He figured no one would notice him in a hat and sunglasses and when the woman in the park warned him against the chicken, he figured she was just hitting on him. When he’s feeling better, he asks her out for a day of sightseeing. Of course he’s in disguise with a fake mustache and all, which she laughs at, and then plays along with her own fake mustache. He’s delighted she doesn’t know who he is and they extend their day into nighttime activities.
Harlow leaves the next day for Green Bay, Wisconsin, to her corgi and her goofy dad. She figures it was just a night one thing. Ad adventure in New York. Andy doesn’t feel the same way. He asks for her number and follows up. He wants more.

A sexy romance filled with laughter, friends, attraction, and career. Andy feels free to be himself with Harlow and they form a connection he can’t ignore. It’s sweet, it steamy and adorable.
This was my first read of this author and I love the lighthearted romance. I can’t wait to read her again.

Harlow James just wanted some advertisers—not a hot, half-delirious footballer crashing her elevator ride.

She’s a Wisconsin girl in NYC, single, thriving, and casually saving lives at food trucks. Her app, Kissmet, matches people with destiny. But when she warns a suspiciously handsome stranger about salmonella and ends up footing part of his food bill, it’s not exactly the meet-cute she had in mind.

Enter Landon “Andy” Burke: America’s football fantasy and currently nursing a bad batch of chicken—and an even worse opinion of meddling strangers. Too bad fate’s already drafted these two into a game they didn’t plan to play.

🏉 Why It Scores Big

• Swoon Control: Andy falls first and hard. His emotional availability is downright edible.
• Oblivious = Adorable: Harlow has no clue who he is—and Andy eats that up more than the cursed kabob.
• Daddy Dilemma: Harlow’s dad catching feelings for her boyfriends before she does? Classic small-town chaos.
• Ex Appeal: Toxic ex alert! Just the right dash of drama without drowning the romance.
• Andy Is a Giver: And yes, he gives exactly where readers want him to (i.e. he likes to go downtown).

🏈 Fumbles in the Playbook

• Mustache-Gate: Andy shows up looking like a cartoon bandit with a fake handlebar mustache and Harlow doesn’t blink?
• Sweatpant Controversy: Grey does it for Harlow, but I’m team Black Sleep Pants all day.
• Sporty Tension: She hates football; he is football. That’s a whole subgenre waiting to happen.
• The majority of the book takes place in less than a week’s time.

🎧 The Voice Game

Alexander Cendese? Certified MVP of narration—his emotional delivery and rich tone bring Andy to life. Felicity Cross has a pleasant vibe, though the alternating POVs would’ve been stronger with duet narration. Let each voice shine in its lane.

💬 Quotes

“Just a small-town girl, chillin’ in a big bad world.”

“My friends had me convinced you might be hatfishing me.”
“Hatfishing? Is that an online dating thing?”
“Simply put, it’s when a guy wears a hat, so you have no idea if he is bald or not.”

“This life ain’t for the faint of heart, so I need someone who's in it with me.”

Thank you NetGalley, Montlake and Sara Ney for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first book by this author and the writing style wasn’t a fit for me.

I requested this book because it mentioned Green Bay and I’m from WI so I got excited but the representation of GB was a bit off.

The premise was cute but the characters were kind of flat and slightly cringy for me. I liked some of the texting banter but struggled with the MMCs behavior, some of his phrasing and most of his internal monologue.

The end also felt rushed…he shows up, there slightly overblown conflict, they make up, fast forward 2 months, surprise and the end?

Again, I think some would enjoy this but it wasn’t for me.

I really enjoyed this book!

For me it was a different meet cute, sports romance, romantic comedy.

I loved both Harlow and Andy, from the beginning, along with Big Steve, Kevin, and Dex.

This is the first book I have read by Sara and I look forward to other books she's written. Her writing style is similar to Erin Nichols and Ilsa Madden-Mills.

I am a newer Sara Ney reader, but am enjoying her so much! Not Your Biggest Fan definitely read more mainstream/trad pub than her indie titles and I think it showed. It still packed all the loveable characters and witty banter that she is known for, but there was an edge that was missing from the story. I was surprised Green Bay was written as a small town (?!?) but in my head just made it fictional. I am a big football fan so I would have preferred to just have a fictional town so that the attributes made a bit more sense, but it's fiction. I just made it fiction in my head, too.

I did love the meet cute and I loved how Andy fell for Harlow against his own will, pretty much. I enjoyed the magnetism between them and how they ran back into one another. The banter and text messages were so much fun to read and brought the Ney vibes I was looking forward to. I also liked the sports angle; Andy shopping for a new team was fun to read and a little different. I also liked his relationship with his parents. I laughed a good bit in the book and found many parts fun to read.

The flow of the book itself was excellent, making the book easy to read and the perfect pace. There wasn't a point where I felt like the story lagged or I wanted to fast forward. I liked how she wasn't a crazed fan and how that allowed them to connect. It was cute, but just not a favorite book for me.

Not the biggest fan... of this book. I picked it primarily because it had an audiobook option and was driving a bit. Bad idea. I didn't like either of the voice actors. Their voices were wildly different speed which made it not enjoyable.. and they just sounded like they were whining (and the dialogue between the two of them sounded so much more catty).

I also hated her friends.. and her DAD! Don't get me started on her dad. I was cringing and rolling my eyes out pretty much during all their encounters. And the whole third act breakup was something you'd see in a high school book vs. dang-near 30 year olds.

This was my first novel by Ney and it was interesting. I enjoyed the plot, but I don’t think the writing was my style.

There is a lot of witty banter back and forth between Andy and Harlow, which can be exciting. However, sometimes their conversations were very mundane and could have been eliminated.

I just wanted to point out a major issue the author made. Now, I’m from Wisconsin and I’ve been to Green Bay more times than I can count. It’s not a small town by any means, with over 100K people living there. Not only that, Harlow hates football? Not only is that NOT common in Green Bay (pretty much a sin), but in the state of Wisconsin as a whole. We are raised in Packer gear and Cheeseheads from a young age. Also, we got a new quarterback last year (just saying).

Now, I didn’t let that play into my rating of this novel, since I know not everyone reading this book is shouting Go Pack Go every Sunday night. But I still wanted to mention it since it did irk me.

I also just felt like it took forever to get to the point. By the halfway mark Landon still wasn’t even in GB yet. There were just a lot of texts back and forth between him and Harlow. And when Harlow found out Landon’s occupation she wasn’t very smart (chapters 22 and 23). It seemed overplayed and could have been written better.

I think a lot of people who love a good romance will enjoy this novel. It just wasn’t my cup of tea. There’s not much football though.

Oh Sara what the heck was this??

Your Biggest Fan follows Andy and Harlow who meet by chance in Central Park. Andy is a huge football star but seeing as Harlow is oblivious to all things sports related she just thinks he’s some crazy guy ordering the chicken kebab from a food truck. They hit things off and after a day date and not being able to say goodbye they spend the night together. Andy is immediately smitten and loves the idea that he can be normal with Harlow and Harlow doesn’t really know what to think but knows that she has some feelings for him. All is long distance fun until Andy thinks of signing with Harlow’s home team and goes to surprise her. And the truth of who he is finally comes out.

Honestly I did not feel the chemistry between these two at all. Their banter wasn’t cute like other Sara Ney couples. It felt stunted and weird. Andy acted like the truth of him being a major star athlete should be accepted in two seconds with no issues. I think he barrels over Harlow’s feelings a lot and expects her to just accept him being in the national spotlight and expects her to be cool with being in the media as well, it was wild.

I usually love the fun that Sara brings to her books but I was so put off with this one and the misogynistic tones of it. I won’t write her off completely, I’ve been reading her for a long time and this is the first time I can remember not liking her book. Hopefully the next one is back to her usual quality. Harlow and Andy meet at a chance encounter in New York and start a whirlwind romance that surprises even them. Little does she know he's hiding a massive secret about who he is and what he does for a living.

*****

This did not work at all. I think the attempt was for cute and flirty banter. However, it missed the mark big time. The dialogue was stilted and cringy, the inner monologues were immature and awkward. The side characters were rude and annoying, and there was no chemistry to speak of between the leads. There was so much texting and side convos to fill the book, yet the whole book and build-up between the two characters only spanned a single week.

One week. Two days together. Then we get a half-hearted conflict that's immediately resolved, and a couple of months' time jump before a secondary characters POV as an epilogue.

It was odd, disjointed, and didn't feel like a properly thought-out book. Instead, it felt like a rush job. I wouldn't recommend this one, as I'm honestly not sure what the intent was behind the entire plot.

Usually, I adore this authors work, so don't let this review stop you from reading her other books. This one is just a miss.

Not Your Biggest Fan was way more fun than I expected! I really liked the direction Sara Ney took Andy & Harlow's love story, the plot twists I wasn't expecting, and that really interesting twist that Harlow having no idea who Andy is.

Harlow is a very peculiar and charming girl: I love that she ALWAYS says what she thinks, especially in that first meeting with Andy, I really liked reading her perspective on love and relationships because this girl is the creator of a dating app and that part of her plot was very interesting, although I would have really liked to read a little more of that in the book because at the end of the day that's the reason for her visit to NY. It was also interesting to read his conflict regarding his relationship with his dad - there were times when I hated Steve a little, but I could also empathize with his situation and the reason behind his intense personality.

Andy is a professional football player who is trying to decide the next step in his career, he is a charming man who stole my heart from the beginning, and I have to say that he was my favorite in the book. I really liked his simple personality, how silly he can be and that flirtatious & slightly cocky side that always appears when he is with Harlow, another thing that I loved about his character was that part of Andy that wants to experience life as an ordinary person, without the pressure of being a celebrity and with the security that the people around him are with him for who he is and not for his fame. Like Harlow, Andy has a very particular relationship with his family that I didn't like at first, BUT I really enjoyed that decisive conversation for him in which he opens up about all the pressure he has to meet his parents' expectations and how they feel about it.

Harlow & Andy meet in New York in a very original and fun way that leads them to spend a whole day together in which our main characters share interesting, sweet and very tender moments, and one of the things I loved most about this couple was reading Andy desperate to maintain that connection with Harlow and willing to do ANYTHING to have her in his life. Another aspect that gives a special touch to the plot is that Harlow has VERY established feelings and beliefs about professional athletes, especially football players, which is why she knows nothing about the subject, doesn't watch sports on TV and has no idea who Andy is when she meets him.

🏈Andy: 4/5
🏈Harlow: 4/5
🏈Trama: 3/5
🏈Historia de amor: 4.5/5
🏈Personajes secundarios: 3/5
🏈Portada: 5/5

4.5⭐️ - really enjoyed this read!!

Stars Harlow, a midwestern gal who bumps into Andy, aka Landon (HUGE NFL star) in a food cart line when they’re both visiting NYC for different reasons. She has NO idea who he is! This may have been the funniest meet-cute I’ve ever read 😂 essentially Andy nearly sh*ts himself due to food poisoning Harlow warns him about 😂

Overall loved the banter, the writing style was hilarious, and the characters were both likable people with funny quirks. I flew through this one, which is a testament to how fun this book was. Recommend for a lighthearted read!😊

Tropes:

This was definitely one of the funniest meet-cutes I have ever read. I love the humor that Sara brings to her books. I can always count on a lighthearted read and something to bring a smile to my face. Harlow meets Andy in line at a food truck in NYC. As luck would have it, they run into one another again (poor guy) at the hotel they both happen to be staying at. What were the chances? Some might say it was Kismet... but I digress.
They end up going on a day date to tour around NYC the next day. Harlow has no idea that he is a professional football player and thinks he is just unemployed. Andy likes that Harlow has no idea who he isn't and doesn't like him just for the fame and what his name can bring her. He likes that she is down to earth and can be himself around her. When their one day ends, he really isn't ready to give her up.
Harlow doesn't think she will see him again, but Andy has other plans. Those plans involve not letting her go.
I enjoyed Harlow and Andy's interactions with their parents and liked how they were so involved in their lives. I also loved the group chat with friends because, we know our besties know all the details about things before anyone else does!

So happy to have a new book by one of my favorite authors, and she did not disappoint! Starting with the crazy out there “meet cute” and follow up meeting. Followed up by both characters’ crazy families and/or friends. As usual we got a fast paced and fun rom-com. I loved the sports aspect of it, and how Harlow literally had no idea who Andy was, because even though she lived in a big football city, she didn’t really care about the sport. Of course, it’s not like her town’s football team was doing well enough that everyone knew players’ names like they do here in KC with our guys.

There were definitely some parallels to good old Kelce and Swift’s relationship, only the Swift was an actress in this story, and not at all like our beloved Taylor Swift, lol. The banter was fun as always with Ney’s books. I also loved how she had one character write a dating ad bio, as one time I even asked the author to write one for me, and I did use it for awhile, however I’m still single, so who knows how that went, lol.

Anyway, it was another fun, sexy, rom-com from Sara Ney, and I’m looking forward to the second book which we get a preview of who it’s going to be about at the end of this one!

Thank you NetGalley for access for the Advanced Reader Copy. Please see my unbiased review below:

This was a straightforward, dual POV, cute but also a little cringe-y, sports novel. Our two characters meet in a not so meet cute way in NYC but end up having a good time together and begin to progress to more. The pacing in this novel is quite nice and there's a little bit of spice, but definitely not the spiciest. Despite this being a sports novel, the actual football part of the novel is relatively small so I don't think it should deter any readers from picking this up. I will say the writing is a little cringe-y in certain parts, particularly with our MMC's POV. It felt a little forced to come across as super bro-y and masculine, but overall still worth a read.

3.5/5 stars! I love Sara Ney and wanted to love this book. Unfortunately, I am from Wisconsin and have been a Cheesehead since I was old enough to talk. Wisconsin is really a state of small towns, EXCEPT for Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay. Green Bay is not a small town. It's one of our state's largest cities. Granted it's not New York or LA, but it's not a small town. I think authors need to be careful when writing about areas they have never visited or don't understand.

That being said, I loved the banter between the two main characters. Sara does a great job of playing up chemistry. I still enjoyed it despite my personal ugh about location inaccuracies.

This was one of those reads where I did find it cute, fun and enjoyable and entertaining a cute rom com …BUT I really couldn’t get connected to the story or characters at all.

Andy and Harlow had this meet cute and I did enjoy how Andy fell for Harlow when he least expected it and was busy trying to get his career situation underhand. The banter and text messages were super fun to read as is typical of Sara’s books.

I did not feel any chemistry or connection between these two characters. Obviously I wouldn’t call it miscommunication or lying but he tried to hide who he was which caused some issues in the story for me.

Again a cute n fun book like Sara typically writes I just couldn’t connect . Sara is great at rom com so if you like these tropes it may be a hit for you.

I had such a great time with this story! The characters were so enjoyable, and their interactions had me laughing out loud. I loved how real they felt and how their personalities shone through in every moment. The chemistry between them was natural and made me care deeply about their journey.

The story itself had a wonderful, light feel to it. It wasn’t heavy, but it still had warmth and depth. The plot flowed easily, and I loved how it balanced humor with sweet, heartfelt moments. The messages between the characters added a nice touch, giving a unique way to show their connections and growth. It was definitely a story that kept me smiling throughout.

● Andy is a free agent and is trying to figure out what team to join

I love the fast pace read of Sara Ney’s books… is refreshing and this book follows in the same vibes. Andy and Harlow had a funny and unexpected beginning, but it is a cute love story. The only thing that I miss is more about their relationship together- they start the relationship and quickly the story ends. But it is a good story.

Okay, I guess. I wish the readers would get to read about their first night together in a hotel, but I think it was skipped to the day after.
FMC then returns home, and somehow Andy shows up there. Not gonna lie, it kind of bothered me that he went by the name Andy because it sounds so childish and immature, and I felt like Landon would suit him better. Also, Harlow's dad had a lot of cameos, what with barging into Harlow's home when she wasn't (or was) home and him calling himself Big Steve and repeating it all over the book when someone didn't call him right. I think he was supposed to be this funny character, since he was a small, robust man and calling himself Big Steve, but at times, he was just annoying. I was hoping for more alone scenes between Landon and Harlow.
The whole drama was for nothing, in my opinion.

Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is not a good story

The premise started strong, but in my opinion, it went downhill when the FMC's friends joined in. They were too trope-y: the token gay friend, the possibly bi friend, the sweet summer child with raunchy depths. The FMC's reliance on their opinions-- which are formed on her poor explanations --is repelling. That the FMC doesn't want to talk to the MMC whenever something troubling comes up is a huge red flag. The main "problem situation" is based entirely on the FMC's insecurities but the MMC says it's all his fault.

There is very little substance to root for their relationship to succeed. And the biggest flaw in the story... SPOILER ALERT... There isn't even a declaration of love let alone a HEA. What the heck kind of romance novel ends with "yeah, I want to give dating you a solid shot"??

What a disappointment.

Read, don't listen

Cute story if a bit unbelievable that she never picked up on the fact that he was trying not to be recognized. The plot of her not being told who he was and then her not telling her friends was irritatingly long drawn out. DO NOT choose to listen to the audio version ! The male narrator sounds as if he is constipated! So very annoying. His voice does not conjure a picture of a very attractive, sexy man.

Not Your Biggest Fan is some lighthearted, feel good fun.
Harlow is in NYC for her job and just loves the city. Apparently she has even become quite the food truck connoisseur. When standing in line waiting to order her food, she hears the gentleman in front of her ordering chicken. And after the experience she has had, she feels obligated to tell him her little secret. When he doesn't listen, she makes a bet with him. But what are the chances that she will even see him again to see if she has won the bet?

OMG! This meet-cute was so fun and I loved hearing Harlow just tell it like it is. She had no qualms giving her opinion to the good looking man ordering up the chicken. Was it a little unbelievable that these two would meet up again and she could cash in on the bet? Absolutely. But it was fun, over the top, a little TMI and just enough uncomfortableness to make it funny and quirky.

Andy lost the bet and lo and behold, he actually finds the woman that just inserted herself into his food ordering quite refreshing. Something he doesn't see a lot in his line of work. Because he's a top NFL player and people just fawn all over him. Luckily, Harlow has no clue who he is and he takes full advantage of that knowledge and has a "normal day" with her, just enjoying one another's company. But when their one day is up, he wants more. She thinks it's impossible because they live across the country from on another. Harlow is in for quite the surprise.

I'm not alway a fan of insta love/lust, but certain authors and the way they write can make it work. Sara Ney made it quirky, fun and totally enjoyable while also giving us just enough steam between the characters. I loved that Harlow was a no nonsense sort of character that was honest and could spar with Andy back and forth. She told him like it is and he needed someone like that in his life. Their banter and connection is what made this whole insta relationship work. I'm a sucker for sports romance and adore quirky characters. I liked the way these two balanced one another out, but also....the supporting characters really added to their story. From their parents, to Harlow's friends, they really added that extra spark to their whole story.

As for the audio, it was good. I give major props to the female narrator (Felicity Cross) and think she really brought Harlow to life. I enjoyed listening to her and her male voices. She was the plus on this performance. But, the male narrator (Alexander Cendese) was not my favorite. For me, he sounded too comedic for a football player. It just didn't fit. With that said, this IS a romcom, so in that aspect, he did his job and brought the comedy. He definitely fit that mold. Thank goodness the story itself was still fun and entertaining.

Overall, a nice lighthearted romcom that is fast paced and can easily be read or listened to in a day.
