The Firehouse

Rate this book
It was the second craziest thing I had ever done. So what if I liked it? It was fun and I was really starting to like Connor. —Aiden

I’m not great at friendships. Or relationships of any kind. Especially with unknown groups of guys. When I signed up to be a firefighter with the Ringfield Volunteer Fire Company, I was nervous—to put it lightly.

The fighters are very close and hang out at the firehouse, whether or not they’re on duty. And with only one open shower bay, they’re not modest. Not that there’s any reason to be. They all use the gym in the basement daily, and a few of the guys, like Connor, are more than blessed down there.

I’m excited about my first overnight duty with Connor. He’s one of the coolest guys on the force—but also a party boy with the face and body to match. Hopefully, he has nothing but TV and junk food planned. But with Connor, you never know.

The Firehouse is a full-length MM firefighter romance with some drama and a HEA

ATE THIS UP

Okay so this one is a BOOK. I really loved the extra layer of story here, it made for a really nice relationship and a good extra bit of character development to go with the spice so that was nice.

I adored both Aiden and Connor. I do love a reformed fuckboy and this has that in spades.

Also, fire fighters? Hot 🥵🔥

I was really not expecting to like this book so much or to read it in one sitting. I was convinced it was just going to be a fun, smutty read about two bros being a bit more than bros.

Well, colour me surprised when I say I should not have judged this book by its cover, because what I found was a story with an actual plot, and genuinely deep conversations and emotions in the bromance and friendship between Aiden and Connor.

The story is told entirely from Aiden’s POV, and while I would have liked to know just what the hell Connor was thinking, living in such denial, I think it worked. It made Aiden’s feelings more relatable and his moment of standing up for himself felt especially satisfying.

Needless to say, it has a HEA, though I would have liked a longer epilogue.

A different vibe in a longer book than the usual by this author, and it worked. I surprised myself by reading and enjoying every one of the over 250 pages.

The singular first person POV of twenty-two year old Aiden was heavy on the self introspection of having feelings for a man, twenty something Connor. Every aspect of their relationship was laid out for examination by Aiden as Connor ran from something that felt like commitment, and with a man. Both were open to being with a man, but had not done more than mild experimentation. The author did a fantastic job at describing the MM relationship.

Gorgeous Connor is the poster boy for a man whore as he is constantly having sex with women, even at the firehouse. That was a hot heard, but not seen, moment.
Connor’s uninhibited manner was well written and intensely sexual. There is a later excellent voyeur scene, too.

For much of the first chapters I was expecting an orgy because every one of the group of firefighters would casually strip off in front of all the others along with everyone constantly hanging out in their underwear and a lot of hot, teasing talk. I didn’t mind as these guys were hot. I really was expecting some sex between some of them, but, no, they were just bro type dudes who were comfortable with themselves. The MCs were the only ones who got it on, when casual jerking off together became just a cover for their developing desire and feelings.

The two men had depth and in very well written dialogue revealed their anxieties of the past which were affecting their present. For Connor it was an overachieving family and for Aiden, being ghosted by a long term girlfriend.

The writing style was different in this one from some of the author’s previous books. The longer length led to longer scenes and more time in between the scenes for the MCs to be together and apart.

Connor kept giving mixed signals to Aiden, who would call him out and break it off. There was more than one breakup scene and instead of being frustrating to read, I empathized with heartbroken Aiden and with Connor, too. Even with the single POV the extensive dialogue revealed Connor’s emotions and motivations. I liked all of the breakup scenes and the low key with strong emotions final makeup scene. The ending of the book was really good.

The firehouse was a cool setting, the firefighter group was very well written and each man had an individual personality.
I love the dialogue in a Heath Grayson book. It is like listening in to how men talk.

The sex was chef’s kiss with lots and lots of foreplay. The scene where they kiss for the first time was first-rate!
I enjoyed this. It’s getting all the stars. I bet the author has fun choosing the cover guys. I have fun admiring.

AMAZING! I absolutely LOVED the characters, both individually and together. The Firehouse had me hooked from the very first page. Aiden’s struggle to form friendships and navigate the tight-knit community of the Ringfield Volunteer Fire Company contrasts beautifully with Connor’s seemingly effortless charm—though even Connor struggles to truly understand himself.

The camaraderie among the firefighters is portrayed with a perfect blend of humor, vulnerability, and intensity, making you feel like you're right there on Main with them. The dynamic between Aiden and Connor is especially captivating as it evolves, even in the face of the setbacks they both face. You can’t help but fall for Connor’s unpredictable nature and Aiden’s thoughtful approach to every situation, constantly replaying what went wrong and how he can do better next time.

Once again, Heath Grayson knocks it out of the park with another stellar book. For me, he sets the standard by which I judge all other books that I read.

If you're looking for a story that masterfully combines personal growth, complex relationships, and a bit of heat (pun intended), The Firehouse is a must-read. And let’s not forget the fire scene—make sure you have enough time to get through it because you won’t want to put the book down during that scene!

Love the setting, love the characters, and love the writing. Couldn't put the book down! The fire scene had me on edge the entire time, and had me in tears in the end! This author's great and really hits the mark with the internal workings of a male mind! Can't get enough of him!

Aiden has graduated college and moved to a small town somewhere on East Coast for his new job in finance. However he's always loved firefighting, so he lands a volunteer gig nearby. He's anxious and the other firefighters are friendly, but he's immediately attracted Connor. Connor's treated a bit differently by the others, a bit of joke, tolerated it seems. The two early twenty-something men bond over anime, and quickly become best friends, until one night they get a bit handsy with each other... which leads to the two of them getting more intense. But while Aiden realizes he has feelings for Connor, the other man seems more interested in drinking and screwing the ladies who are willing.

Honestly, I didn't like this one very much. It felt like it was written a rush and poorly edited. A lot of conflicting info-dumps at the beginning and lack of clarity. There were pages of Aiden repetitively obsessing about their relationship, which (I felt) could have been trimmed down. I didn't really buy Connor's sudden change of heart in the third act, and honestly he felt really shallow and uninteresting to me. Aiden barely grows as a character as well. And last but not least, the very bro-terms "anal innocence" and "anal virginity" were so uncomfortable I almost DNF'ed at the first mention.

Two stars.

DNF @ 5%.

This is super repetitive…

Connor is a bit a douchebag, more like a fuck boy. Connor is a cocky, douchey, fuck boy. The guy is a douchey fuck boy. Got it.

And then the fire station reminding Aiden of his old fraternity. And that it was like a less filthy fraternity house, and that it suggested fraternity, and the guys remind him of the fraternity brothers.

And there’s over explaining every. little. thing.

But also, a bunch of volunteer firefighters just hanging out like it’s a club house and playing video games and drinking? That’s weird. Why are volunteers doing shifts and practically living in the station?

I mostly liked The Bouncer, but this is annoying me too much to continue.

It was a good story, simple and to the point. There was a lot of trauma and healing. There wasn’t unnecessary stuff. Just the right amount of pain and healing. I loved how Aiden and Connor felt a connection instantly. I like how they weren’t playing games. I also liked how it wasn’t your typical gay romance. It had depth to both characters and the development through out the book was fantastic. Can’t wait to read the other books in the series.

Pleasantly surprised

I wasn't sure at the beginning of the book if I was into the ONE PV I read mostly dual, I figured I keep going. Some details at the beginning I was into, but then the way they subtly went from 0 to 5 to 60 was amazing. I wanted to know Connor for sure his way of thinking. It's not as romance driven, but enough to swoon a little.

I really enjoyed it

It’s a really good story. There was great chemistry, and good backstory’s. The facing of one’s fears can really change a person and their emotions, this led to some really emotional moments. I definitely recommend the book.

intriguing

Aiden and Connor’s story was well written. It’s one of my favorites so far in the series they had a few hurdles to jump through.
