Discovering Elijah

Rate this book
Twelve-year-old Elijah feels like a puzzle with missing pieces. His dad left when he was two. Navigating middle school is tough enough, but his mom's endless string of boyfriends makes it even harder.

Every few days, Elijah sneaks off to watch a man he believes is his father, hoping for a chance to have a dad again. But when his mom starts dating Alex, a cop who seems different, Elijah is torn. He sees his mom's happiness, but fears the ending once more.

Moving in with Alex and starting a new school, Elijah expects the worst. He will have to forge new friendships and unexpected family bonds if he is to feel fulfilled.

This book was sad but had a HEA. It follows Elijah, who has a lot going on in his personal life, and he feels lonely and like he can't talk to anyone. That is until he finally connects with someone you'd least expect. This story is great for kids who feel like they're alone as it sends the message that no one is ever alone. There is always someone there for you if you need them. This was written in a poetry format, but it made it easy and quick to read as well. It's such a lovely story.

Elijah is my son now and I miss him. I miss him, Alex, Maggie, and Zinnia. The bullying and result of it will 100% make you cry or want to cry. Thankfully it leads to something a lot better. Watching Elijah grow and the world change around him but become so warm for him was beautiful. Watching him become warm to himself was my favorite part. This novel is in verse so it was a lot easier for me to read and I'm going to read Gemini next.

Coming of age

I enjoyed this book how it's written from the view of a 12 year-old boy who Is going through a lot of problems in his life. I Liked how they made him a real person and not just a stereotype of a teenager.
This book is good for Young people and adults alike because sometimes we forget how hard life can be when you are so young.
