Until We Touch

Rate this book
Where does this proclivity for unnecessary trouble come from? Yes, trouble. That’s what Jack is—giving mixed signals, having this brooding air surrounding him. His physical attraction lured me in, and as soon as he smiled and showed me a glimpse of a whole different side of him, I was a lost cause. -Emma
She needs to defeat her greatest fear.
He needs to overcome past trauma.
All it takes is a simple touch.
Only it’s not simple at all.

At twenty-eight, Emma is content with her life. A fulfilling job and a handful of friends are all she needs. She doesn’t even mind she’s single—unlike her mother, who keeps nagging and pushing her to settle down. But despite Emma’s best efforts, yet another disappointing encounter with a guy adds to her mile-long string of unfortunate relationships. So she vows to make better choices with men, and steering clear of them seems like the wisest decision.

Her resolutions are put to the test when she meets Jack. Their paths continue to cross, and Emma struggles to keep her distance, regardless of his secretive and brooding nature. She can’t ignore the pull toward him, even though he shows every sign of being the worst candidate to give her heart to and doesn’t appear to share her feelings. What happened in his past makes it impossible for him to pursue anything close to a relationship.

But when surprising news turns Emma’s world upside down, Jack offers his shoulder to lean on.

And maybe even more.

Not my cuppa, definitely.
There are some things I really didn’t like and that I would have done without, and imo the book would have been a lot better.
So, the idea is quite original and interesting. The hero suffers from some kind of touch sensitivity, he can’t be touched because of a past trauma, so he can have sex only if he’s drunk and only his ex bar fake gf can touch him for reasons unknown.
He meets the heroine that is a nurse and feels attracted to her it he fights the attraction because he knows he can’t have a healthy and normal relationship with a woman.
And the heroine, well the heroine is pregnant by a ONS, she finds out some days after the met the hero.
They starts dating casually, they don’t know how things will go between them.
I admit he was quite ok when he learned she was preggo, that is, he’s quite young himself and it’s not easy to date a single pregnant woman, but he was enthusiastic which didn’t make much sense.
The heroine was more cautious and less hasty, she wanted to be sure of him and of the fact that they could have a normal relationship and that he could overcome his disorder. He went to a therapist.
So, the whole thing about his disorder and his pregnancy would have been enough to make a good book but no, the author had to add a weird ow drama which was unnecessary and created cheap angst. Because this ow, that the hero sees only as a friend, wants him romantically, and is always around hugging, kissing and touching him, even when the heroine is around. So while the poor girl is trying to understand if she has a future with him, he’s fooling around with this woman, to the point where he even lets her kiss him, and at that point I was really out because, honestly.
Why add this woman I say? What does she add to the story? Nothing.
The hero also acts a bit borderline. One moment he’s all over the heroine, then ow is around and he lets her kiss him and feels confused, wtf? Really?
I must admit I never felt much love between them. In the end he basically admitted he loved the child and he couldn’t live without them, but it’s not what I wanted him to say, he should have said that he only loved the heroine and ow could go f herself.
Whatever.
The other thing that I really didn’t like was that even after he met and felt attracted to the heroine he had a ONS with a random.
That was completely unnecessary and wrong.
Since he had that kid of issue and he really didn’t like to be touched why make him go and have sex with another woman when he already had feeling for the heroine?
Do authors think that the readers, that are mostly women, like that kind of situation?
Do authors think that men can’t stay celibate for months when they don’t have a partner? That they must have sex just because?
Do authors think that readers find romantic and all right that a man who wants a woman has sex with another that is not her? Do we have such low standards for ourselves?
I mean, if that scene had not been present would the book have been less interesting?
So, annoyed by that scene and by the repeated an unnecessary presence of ow that spoiled all the story for me, I couldn’t enjoy anything at all.

Lilly Henderson’s fourth addition to her Until Series is a fantastic complement with wonderful new characters in Until We Touch.

It is going to be so hard to resist spoilers as I write my review of Jack and Emma. His friends from the first three books make an appearance, and Jack’s character and loving nature really was revealed as the book moves forward.

Emma’s background was in conflict at first with her emotional and physical attraction to Jack. With the secret she’s carrying alone, Jack’s love and acceptance are still a strong thing for her to believe, however the sweet story and spice make this a can’t miss!

DNF at 30%. This was not for me. I am sure there is an audience for it but I am not it. I did not like or connect to the characters. The MMC was a misogynistic jerk in practice and in his thoughts. A lot of treating women like trash except MFC who is "not like other girls". MFC was a progressive, sexually liberated ER Nurse in New York but doesn't think or act like it. Pass

What a fun and beautiful story!

Emma is an ER nurse who helps take care of Jack when he comes in with a cut on his face. Neither can get each other out of their heads, and they are connected again through mutual friends shortly after.

Each of them brings some baggage to the table and must overcome obstacles.

Emma and Jack have infectious chemistry. This is a spicy, open door book with a HEA.

“A damn sexy smirk appears on her. ‘Lately, you’ve only been calling me Peach whenever you were in a flirtatious mood.’
I lean in. ‘I’m feeling a little more than flirtatious right now, Peach.’”

Check this out if you like:

This may just take the spot as my favourite book in the Until series. From the very first moment I met Jack in the other books in the series I knew I'd be completely obsessed with him and I couldn't wait to find out more about him .When he finally got his book and honestly the anticipation was so worth it and this book was everything and so much more.

It was beautiful, raw , complicated and truly healing to read I couldn't help but fall madly for Emma and Jack and their love.

I absolutely loved Emma she was such a lovable, understanding, strong and kind soul who when she meets Jack she feels there's something different about him.

Emma sees all of Jack even the parts he keeps hidden away from everyone. Their paths continue to cross with Jack spending a lot of time in the ER and soon things begin to complicated when Emma finds out she’s pregnant from a one night stand .

But from the very moment jack finds out about peanut he is the sweetest most understanding and loveable man and I think that made me love him even more.

Jack was a complex character who after a past trauma led him to have anxiety attacks from personal touch . He wanted so much to show Emma how much he loved and cared for her and but his anxiety was always there. I felt so much for Emma and jack in these moments because they so much wanted to take the next step.

It was beautiful when they were able to take the next step I was so happy for them as you feel through the pages how hard this healing journey has been for Jack and Emma.

And to see in the end of the book how much jack craved Emma's touch was just beautiful.

You showed that not every path to love is easy but that the hard parts are so worth the journey to a forever kind of love

I think this was my favorite of Lilly's books so far.

I really liked the story and how she related both characters past issues and trauma and made us relate to them and wanting to confort them all the way.
In this story we have main character that are quite imperfect, but I believe that this only adds to the book interest. It makes them more believable. And at the same time how they struggle with real life problems makes this book amazing!
So, we have Jack, that is a sweet guy with a tough exterior wall to protect himself. He has a touch fobia, and cant't stand being touched.
Emma is a nurse, and has a tiny problem. She discovers a surprise pregnancy, just as she starts getting interested in Jack. So they start having feelings for each other, but their issues kind of get in the way. Mainly the problems they each create in their heads.
It was good to see them overcome their fears, and start to bond with each other and realise that there is more to people and feelings and relationships than what they believed.
It is a good story and an amazing time to spend in a confy couch just relaxing!

I loved this book so much I couldn’t put it down! Jack and Emma met through mutual friends and had an instant attraction to each other but Jack was dealing with an emotional trauma from years prior that prevented him from getting to close to anyone. I loved how supportive and patient Emma was with him. She also was dealing with her own issues so watching the two of them support each other was beautiful! And of course I enjoyed hearing updates on all of their friends from the previous books of this series. Im sad there’s only one more book in this series but I’m 100% looking forward to reading the last one! Lilly Henderson will always be an automatic read for me!

This is my first book from Lilly Henderson and it’s absolutely adorable. This book is a sweet little read that is perfect for after reading something darker. Jack and Emma have that instant attraction that I love in my contemporary romances and reading how their relationship progresses is so fun. I was not expecting what the trauma was that Jack has to work to overcome but I enjoyed watching as he worked for it for the woman he loves. I definitely need to read the previous books in the series and can’t wait for the next book.

Until We Touch is the fourth romance in the Until series. Emma is happy with her life, she loves her job, her friends and doesn’t mind being single, but when she gets some news that has her world tilting on its axis she’s not sure where to go from here. Jack had past traumas that leave him hating to be touched. A simple touch can leave him in the middle of a panic attack and he’s ready for that to change. Emma and Jack pretty opposite, but the saying that opposites attract proves to be true. Both Emma and Jack need their own kind of help, will they be exactly what the other doesn’t know they are looking for?

I have read most of this series and have loved every book I’ve read. This one was no different. It can very easily be read as a standalone and you wouldn’t miss too much besides some side character background info. I was pulled in from the very beginning of this book and flew through this romance, not wanting to put it down. I loved Emma and Jack together and love seeing how they complimented each other. This is a slow burning romance, but the wait pays off in the end. The chemistry and tension between the pair was perfect and had me flying through the pages to see what would happen next. I really enjoyed this romance read and recommend it to anyone looking for a good, slow burning romance that keeps you coming back for more. I can’t wait to see what comes next for this series!

Until Series Book 4.
I really did enjoy this book. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. I finally get to meet Jack properly. I did like Emma. She was kind-hearted. I loved how they were together. Their chemistry. I love this series. I don't want it to end. I do love that we still see the other characters from Jack's group. I'm really looking forward to the next book. I would definitely recommend this book.

Lilly Henderson has done it again!

She's added another sweet and sexy romance to her series of books, and I love this as much as the others!

As always the pace is on point, the build up is fantastic. And like the others, I couldn't put this book down until I'd devoured the entire thing.

Emma and Jack have the odds stacked against them from the beginning, but I was continually rooting for them throughout this book.

Oh, Jack! You are a walking green flag, and more men need to take a leaf out of your book!

Thank you Lilly H. for another enjoyable read! I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Until We Touch - Lily Henderson

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Nederlands

Until We Touch - Lily Henderson

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

English

I read Until We Touch by Lily Henderson in one sitting. The story is incredibly captivating, and the way Jack’s issues are portrayed feels refreshing and empathetic – I haven’t seen it depicted quite like this in other books. The author includes relatable, everyday situations, making it easy to get immersed in the story and visualize each scene.

The supporting characters, including a few familiar faces from previous books, are well-developed. Although you don’t necessarily need to have read the previous books to understand this one, it adds to the experience if you have. The chemistry between Jack and Emma is palpable, and their inner struggles are conveyed in a heartfelt way.

Jack goes through a process of working through his past issues, but in my opinion, this sometimes happens too much in the background. His challenges seem to shift from difficult to resolved a bit abruptly for me.

I also had to get used to how the author handles inner dialogue, and there was a bit of initial confusion on my part.

All in all, I’m giving this book a solid four stars, and I definitely plan to read the earlier books in this series!

Who doesn’t love the bad boy falling for the sunshine. That is what you get with Jack and Emma.

They have such a sweet meet cute. Emma being an ER nurse was working one night when a group of guys comes in. She then recognized one of the guys as the friend she knows from his time volunteering at the children’s ward of the hospital. Then she meets Jack, who just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time in a bar.

Now I said Jack was a bad boy but really he just gives off the vibe of a bad boy. He really is just a man that is going through personal stuff that doesn’t like to open up and deal with people. But I gotta say, I just really loved how he was so drawn to Emma. How he kept trying to see her when he really didn’t want to but his body and mind told him he needed too.

Then you throw in the fact that this man stepped up when most men would have turned around and not want to deal with what the situation Emma has found herself in. At the same time Emma was helping Jack overcome his own trauma. I just really loved these two.

Finally! This is my absolute favorite book from this series and I’m in pure bliss! Jack who is untouchable due to a past trauma he went through turns out to be THE BEST book boyfriend. This book will bring you up give you that tingling warm happy feeling all over that makes you swoon and sigh with utter happiness and then bring you back down keeping you ping pong ing back and forth sitting at the edge of your seat to see what will happen next.

Past favorite characters make a reappearance which is exciting and the whole story is so relatable with all the emotions you expect from a romance novel!

This will be in my top two books of the year and I will be buying this to read again and again!

After getting snippets of Jack from the first three Until books, I was ecstatic to finally hear his story. What I wasn't expecting was the heartbreaking reason behind his aversion to touch. I love him so much more for how he persevered and overcame his struggles in order to be the man he wanted to be for Emma.

Emma is such a dynamic character. Her relationship with her mother leave a lot to be desired. She's so patient with Jack, even if she does overreact a teensy bit at times.

This is one you'll definitely want to check the warnings on because they are brief but intense.

I love the interconnected aspect of all of Lilly's stories and I'm always pleasantly surprised by each story she writes.

I thought that Jack and Emma’s story was adorable. The “meet cute” they had at the emergency room had me really interested in the plot. They both have past issues and trauma that they help each other overcome.I thought that Jack really stepped up to care for Emma.

overall, this was a cute story.

This book has so many relatable situations. Emma has decided to stop trying when it comes to men. She's not interested in trying to find someone who isn't a walking red flag. Our Emma is such a loveable character, and I seriously wanted to just jump in and hug her. She works as an ER nurse, and when Jake comes in to be seen, they are drawn to each other. They both have a past and their own secrets but end up letting their gaurd down. I feel like this is a sweet and spicy book that is well written. This is book number 4 but can be read by itself as a stand-alone. I do recommend reading them all, though, because they are all amazing!

What another great read by the author and what a great series. I throughly enjoyed it very much as a reader. I enjoyed reading about Emma & Jack. These two were some of my favorite characters that I read in a series in 2024. This story had this reader very interested and invested from the first to the last page. I enjoy the authors way of crafting a story and getting you to get invested in the characters. Emma & Jack and this story will stay with me for awhile. I really enjoyed this one. Looking forward to what the author will write next.

“'you’re my motivation. I’m working on my issues for you, to be with you and give you what you deserve.”

This the fourth book by Lilly in the Until series and this time we are following Jack and Emma.

Emma is a nurse in the hospital where Paul volunteers so that’s how she gets introduced into their friend group. One day Jack accompanies his sister to the ER where Emma is the nurse.

Jack has some past trauma that resulted in him not wanting to be touched by anyone. If he is touched by people he gets panic attacks.

Emma and Jack are obviously attracted to each other, but what kind of relationship can they have if Jack can’t be touched without freaking out?

Before Emma met Jack she got unexpectedly pregnant by a one night stand and doesn’t know much about the guy.

Jack doesn’t care and wants to be Emma friend regardless to support her. Because his feelings are growing he decides to go back into therapy again.

Will Jack work through his past trauma and be able to be touched by Emma? Will Emma be patient? Will she be able to tell her controlling mother about the pregnancy? Will they work through their problems due to miscommunication?

This book will be released on the 26th, so read the first 3 before this one comes out!
