Navigating Gospel : Book of John

Rate this book
Although all 66 books of the Bible are cherished by readers, which book in the New Testament would be the most beloved? It would undoubtedly be the Book of John, one of the most cherished among believers. The most quoted and memorized verse in the Bible is John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." The Gospel of John lays a great foundation for understanding who Jesus is. Among the four synoptic Gospels, the Gospel of John was written last. While it recounts essential events of what Jesus did, including His miracles, the narrative of John focuses on Jesus as the Son of God. The purpose of the Gospel of John is for readers to believe in Jesus so that they may be saved.

In the Book of John, we experience the intimate touch and voice of Jesus. Beyond the mere listing of events, one can feel the heart of Jesus for the people. Particularly in chapters 13 through 17, we witness Jesus' prayer for His disciples, and we also see that these prayers extend to us. We observe the sad reality of those who encountered the miracles Jesus performed, yet their hearts were dull, and they turned away instead of following Him, as in John 6. We also see religious leaders questioning Jesus, reflecting today’s world, where we still encounter two types of believers and non-believers. Believers who believe in Christ Jesus and follow Him are saved by God's grace. In contrast, others reject Jesus and choose not to follow Him.

The pinnacle of the Gospel, as always, is the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus. The Book of John portrays the purpose of Jesus' coming into the to sacrifice Himself as the Lamb of God who takes away the world's sin (John 1:29), and to rise from the dead as the Son of God, conquering sin and death. The risen Lord Jesus still cared for His disciples, revealing Himself to doubting Thomas (John 20:27-28) and to Peter, who had denied Him three times. Jesus restored their faith and continued to use them, shaping the course of history.

The Book of John is often the first book new believers read because it contains foundational knowledge of who Jesus is, how to be saved, and how to follow Him. This book "Navigating Gospel" unfolds chapter by chapter, revealing profound truths about Christ from the Book of John. It is recommended for all believers who wish to grow spiritually through a deeper understanding of Jesus or who desire to follow Him more closely. It is also highly recommended for those who seek to know the foundational truths of Christianity.
