This was the first book in the "Poppy Field"series. Peter Johnson is an omega who has just received the worst news of his life he can't have babies and to top it off his Alpha Carlos left him and for another omega that he cheated on him with that he got pregnant. Pete decides to seek another opinion from a premiere fertility specialist in Poppy Field, Dr. Rafe Hexton. The meeting doesn't go well Rafe who is an alpha doesn't have a good bedside manner and he lacks empathy for Peters problem so Peter tells him off. A week later these two meet in a club and hook up. This was a good read they had good chemistry in bed and because Rafe doesn't want kids he thinks that Peter is perfect for him. When Peter gets sick his mother takes him to see his Alpha turns out he is pregnant and Rafe didn't handle it too well. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
A solid 3.5. This was cuter and better than I expected, especially at the beginning. It might have been a little hurried and the time scheme made no sense whatsoever, but over all the story was enjoyable.
I admit I was not expecting much. I needed a book that started with a B so this one fit the bill. I was surprised how heartwarming this book was. It needed fleshed out more and a bit longer. Peter was a character that just made you want him to have a happy ending. Was a nice afternoon spent reading this book.
Book 1 of the Poppy Field series, it is a decent introduction, but considering all the other books I’ve read, it’s hardly different from all the other non-mpreg books out there. Reminds me of cut-and-paste just the mpreg parts in, and we got ourselves a new storyline for the mpreg genre… NOT!
I do have to give it to the writer for attempting to define the omega reproductive anatomy, but the writer or editor should had asked someone with serious medical knowledge to determine if this explanation would be sufficient enough to answer to the satisfaction of the reader. Though an attempt was made, it doesn’t really come close, I’m sad to say. And if this fertility specialist was going to base his reputation on this theory, then more research had to be done. It was rather amateurish at best.
Also, I saw a big character development flaw with our alpha Rafe. How could someone who was supposed to be that in-touch with his feelings be such a jerk? No, I mean a REAL jerk! Not buying it, even with my ability to write off many a problem with design. Too much suspension of my generous suspension of disbelief.
This is the first book of the series but my first and last attempt to read it. Not worth the investment at all, and I doubt I’d be going back and rereading it. Not enough flesh. Not enough originality. Not enough research.
2.5* A simple abo story for when you don't really want to think or deal with anything particularly complicated.
There were just a few minor things that irked me a little; - the writing at times, particularly during sex scenes, became awkward. It felt as though you were stuttering through the sentences. - this story is advertised as mpreg, which, granted, does occur...but the actual mpreg feels rushed, and really only seems to truly be a part of the last 10-20%. - and the thing that irked me the most
The book is super cute and the story is really nice. That being said, I just wanted to smack Rafe in the head for a good portion of the book; it's a good thing that Peter, being the good Omega that he is, has more patience with his Alpha than I would've... All in all the story is intriguing, and with a couple of up and downs, so it's really not flat.. Narrator Adam Riley did a really good job with all the different voices and transmitting all the feelings! I really want to listen to more in this series!
I love this! Though Rafe had been a jerk in the beginning (and in the middle as well with how he reacted with Peter's pregnancy, like duh, I cursed him a lot in there!), he proved to be a worthy alpha for Peter. And I love how it was Rafe who always initiate the confessions first.
And when he delivered the baby by himself?! Dang. I love it but I feel bad for Peter 😅
I seriously thought that Stewart secretly loves Peter... so yeah, on to Stewart's own story!
I can suspend belief enough to read omegaverse books, however, I draw the line at men breastfeeding. That just does not work for me. Aside from that tacky moment, I disliked Peter so much, it was no joke. Absolutely weak, spineless, a total doormat. There was nothing endearing about him, nothing to make me even remotely like him. Also, very poor editing, needs better beta readers or at the very least, someone to redline.
I've read other books by Beau Brown, but I think this might be one of my favorites. I loved the premise of a fertility Doctor that assists Omegas having trouble conceiving. Why would an Alpha even go into this line of work? Just how accomplished did he have to be to attract men from all over. Not only was he acclaimed, but he was also expensive and arrogant. Even though he was excellent at his job, his personality, and lack of tact leave a lot to be desired. He did not endear himself to the reader or his latest client.
Omegas both male & female were physically built for conceiving and carrying babies. They mentally had been prepared / taught for years that it was their reason for existing. That no Alpha would want them if they couldn't fulfill the main duty they were born being able to achieve. Their emotions & biological clocks were tied to a desire to carry and nuture babies. Some clock alarms went off later, while others were early. More than anything else our MC wanted a baby, but so did his Alpha which made it perfect, until he failed to conceive. And while he fretted enduring disappointment after disappointment as each Doctor gave him the same sad news, his Alpha was not content to wait around.
Hurting from the lost of his Alpha and feeling despaired knowing no other one would want a Barren Omega. He had one last hope. A reknown fertility specialist. Unfortunately his insurance didn't cover the cost so he saved his money and waited for an appointment with the very popular Obstetrician. The last thing he expected was the callous words and lack of empathy the Doctor displayed. Already depressed and emotional he gave the Baby Doctor a piece of his mind. How dare he be treated so flippantly? Who the hell did that Doctor think he was? Whatever happened to having a bedside manner? He didn't wait months and spend money he penny pitched to save in order to be told by an egotistical condescending jerk the worse news in such a nonchalant manner.
No one had ever spoken to the Doctor in such a manner before. Just who did that Omega think he was?! The nerve of him! Honestly! But over the next several days the Doctor's conscience started to prick him. What if the Omega had been correct? Had all his success made him an unfeeling jerk?! Had he just begun to see research material / subjects versus human beings whose lives rested on what the Doctor diagnosed? A true epiphany occurred. He hated that he had become THAT man THAT type of Doctor who cared more about his research than his patients mental & emotional well being.
And another thing no one, especially not another Omega had ever dared to stand toe to toe with him & let him have it. He'd been cut to the quick / deep down to the bond with some harsh home truths. The young Omega was actually rather amazing. Now what would it take to win his trust and his heart, especially since the good Doctor also made a point of stressing he in fact couldn't fathom the idea of raising Dmitry nosed brats.
The story just gets better and better from this explosive confrontational beginning.
Peter is on his last resort, go see the famous doctor who specializes in Omega fertility. He will be able to tell him once and for all if he is barren. However, the first meeting between Peter and the good doctor is anything but good. Dr. Rafe Hexton is arrogant, cocky and even somewhat cruel in the way he berates Peter for his pain over not being able to carry a child. Peter cannot believe that this man specializes in fertility when he has terrible bedside manner and has no desire to have children. A week later, several drinks lands the two men into bed together and things definitely start to heat up...
This book is a typical alpha-omega MPREG, but I felt like something was missing. Peter really wanted a baby and that was his main goal, which was fine but at times I wish there was more behind this purpose of his. He states that as an omega this is his duty and it's what he is made for and how he will attract an alpha, but this all just felt flat to me. I wanted to see more of him wanting a baby for better reasons then what he is presumably designed for. In this aspect I really liked Rafe, because he told Peter right away that he could be more than just an Omega having babies. But I also wasn't fond of Rafe either. I feel that he was so emotionally-detached and it was a purposeful character design, but I think it worked to well. Half the time he is so closed off it's hard to get a read on him and then when he is being honest I second guess if he does have feelings or he is just trying to better himself. His character dynamic had me baffled because he had so many ups and downs where he was sweet but then mean and closed off but then cuddly. I just couldn't get a good read on him.
Peter and Rafe have a difficult beginning. When their attraction becomes bigger than either can deny anymore, the consequences of their passion are both exciting and surprising. I really enjoyed Peter. His personality is mellow and hopeful. He's also willing to stand up for himself against Rafe's pomposity and callousness.
Rafe's softening is sweet to see but I feel that there wasn't enough of it. And the groveling wasn't enough for me either. He said some great things and was honest, which was a perfect start, but I was hoping for a little more tender words and gestures rather than us having to infer them like Peter needed to.
Overall, though, they were an ideal match with Peter's ability to soothe Rafe and show him a side of being human that he neglected all too often. Rafe's amazing way of taking care of Peter and giving him the support and stability he needed to feel secure is the perfect complement to Peter's subtle fierceness and innate sense of nurturing those he loves.
The side characters were interesting and just strong enough to be interested in their stories yet none of them stole the stage from Rafe or Peter. With a solid cast around them you could see that it isn't just about this one insular couple, it's how each of these men come together to offer advice, sanctuary, a kick in the ass when necessary, and the love they need to carry through their individual hard times.
This is just the kind of thing we’ll regret in the morning.
Peter really wanted to get pregnant and believed he wouldn't find an Alpha if what all the doctors were saying was true. He decided to get an expert opinion from Dr. Rafe Hexton. During the exam Peter had a hard time relaxing.
Think about taxes or something. Think about anything but how nice his finger feels.
Unfortunately, the two hit it off badly. Acting like an insensitive cod, Rafe delivers the news Peter was dreading to hear.
Of course the story doesn't end for these two, and the following weekend after Peters exam he runs into Rafe at a night club.
Little did I know how fate was about to screw with me.
Though Peter is a nice, sweet guy, I really enjoyed Rafe. He's a little self centered and speaks before considering other feelings at first, but I understood way. Prior to Peter he lived a life where he could do what he wanted whenever he wanted. Getting to see Rafe struggle with changing was nice.
This is only my second book by this author and it wont be my last. I'm excited to see what else is in store for the men of Poppy Field and I hope Stewart and Lex are next.
Plot: 4.5 Ending: 5 Character Development: 4.5 Heat: 4.5
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit.):
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow- Away-book like 'Liberty' from Seth King, 'Save the kids' series from EM Leya or 'Jesse's Smile' from Angelique Jurd), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, but not really an often reread book
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time- reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolut NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
The title should have been "I would have never" because that's what's repeated at least 3 times every chapter in a not so variant amount of sentences. There's no background story, the dialogues at times are forced and feel like they were written by a 12 year old. The last chapters are rushed and the basic plot is not really worked on. There's never a rythm to the alpha's rude behavior and the passing also ruins the development of the relationship. While I wouldn't care spending a dollar or so for a short story that I can finish in 5 hours or less and has no real work, I don't feel inclined to pay more. There's way better works, novels, who did that amount give you the real love and drama. Thou if you don't mind wasting your money, be my guest.
This was a story with a ton of angst and two men who are completely opposite. Dr. Rafe is a man who is hard nosed and knows what he wants in his life...companionship, but no kids. He hates kids despite the fact that he a renown fertility dr. Peter is an omega, who wants kids, but now with the brutal words from Dr.Rafe, he has to give up hope. Meeting again, Rafe begs forgiveness from Peter and they embark on a relationship that both want. Will it last or will a big surprise ruin everything and leave Peter on his own while Rafe goes of in his cold, harsh way into a life that he wanted in the first place? An excellent book to start of this new series by this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
This is the second book that I've read by Mr Brown. It won't be my last. While it took a little while to warm up to Rafe I did ultimately like him. I adored non-traditional omega Peter from the get go. While there wasn't much angst this was a very good story that kept me sitting there reading straight through.
I must also say that this refreshingly had very few errors.... only three and they were all the same error the word "and" when it clearly should have 'an'. I found this very refreshing since more often than not anymore the books that I read are riddled with all types of errors. My hat is off to Mr Brown and his proofreader for a job well done.
Thank you, Mr Brown for the ARC. This is my fair and honest review.
The story was okay. Always the same old story: omega meets alpha, oops I'm pregnant, and they all lived happily ever after.
Peter at first seemed to be one who could stand up for himself, different from the usual omega, but in reality he was a doormat.
Rafe was supposed to be that character who is an asshole at first but changes over time, but the change was so sudden that it felt unnatural.
How does a person change overnight? When Peter gave birth on the yacht and left the baby with the Rafe I kept thinking, "Now he's going to throw him overboard for sure." Even after I read the epilogue I could not trust Rafe.
Yet, why the hell do I keep reading these books?! Ik, it's all on me. Smh

This book was well written and interesting my problem with it came from how to alpha acted most of the time and how omegas are viewed in this book. It kinda pissed me off reading that an omegas "Destiny" was to have kids and that this Alpha got off on the idea of wanting to breed a baby but didn't want one. There were several times I almost quit but im glad I stuck it out. It has a good ending and the sex scenes were hot. If your looking for a quick read with some heat and a lil bit of romance I say go for it. The heat level was a 2 maybe 3 in my opinion tho I'm used to Riley Hart and Lucy Lennox level heat so a 2 isn't that bad.
Enemies to lovers are my top trope tho they didn't stay that way for a longer time. I'm surprised at how honest Peter and Rafe can be to each other. They set aside their pride and whatnot. AND THE SMUT!!!! They surely f*ck like bunnies on heat. 🥵 This might be a spoiler, pay heed. I'm extremely happy that Peter had the chance of having a baby of his own. ✨ And utterly disappointed with Rafe's on and off attitude, if he didn't rue and apologize for his actions I'm on the edge of dropping this book but I'm glad he did. He's actually a good alpha and he got me sold when he said he wanted to take good care of his omega.🌸
When Peter and Rafe first meet they have an instant attraction to one another but that meeting did not go well at all! Things definitely change when they meet again at a club! They have lots of chemistry and seem to be exactly what each one is looking for until fate throws them a curve ball. Rafe has to decide what he truly wants in his life and I commend Peter for his patience and understanding. The narrator did a great job with this story and the characters. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audiobook.
This short little book took me forever to slough through. i kept putting it down to read something else. It's an okay story. nothing new to the ABO field. Which is fine. i like a good ABO story. My problem came from things not adding up in the story. Like where the heck did "inner wolves" come from? this is isn't a shifter story. The conflicts between how Rafe was supposedly so in touch with himself and yet he was a complete jerk off. He's like this big fertility specialist and yet was so callous with Peter. I didn't just buy it.
My first read by Beau Brown. Nice... I just watched Momma Mia for the 100th time so dot, dot, dot has deeper meaning again or maybe its more meaning. Anyway it's a hot book if you don't get the movie reference. The story starts out rocky and only gets steamier as it goes. I can't wait the second book in this mpreg series. Yum. It was well written with fub characters who came to life on the page.
