where to read: renta!, coolmic

English title: Can Love Management Tame Him?!

Honestly already don't remember what I read. But I do remember liking this and it just being a silly mindless read. I'll probably reread it at some point.

Official English: Can Love Management Tame Him?! (via Coolmic or Renta!)

This is one of those stories you read for fun and not for the plot or characters. It does have its plus points but honestly, just read it for fun and nothing more.

The story follows Murakami having trouble connecting with his unsociable subordinate, Mizuki. Asking his colleague for advice, Murakami becomes aware of the “Love Management” technique. Thus begins the misunderstandings, which brings our two characters together, quite rockily while also being the top performers at their job.

It’s an interesting concept with a unique execution. This short story has an uneven fast paced and focuses heavily on building the relationship between the two characters through sexual interactions and misunderstandings. The whole “Love Management” technique seemed rashly executed because I felt like it was more a genuine attempt by Murakami, rather than a planned attempt to make Mizuki fall in love with him.

That said, Murakami is the tall, upfront bottom and Mizuki is the shorter, tsundere top. Yes, there is dubious consent and rape but Murakami doesn’t seem to be affected by it whereas, Mizuki understands he’s wrong and is somewhat regretful. To be honest, I liked that Mizuki was self-aware of his mistake and didn’t just brush it off. Also, I liked that when both got past their misunderstandings, they actually talked things out, with Murakami being clear on what he wanted.

I read this manga in a long webtoon format with clean, expressive and captivating artwork. The backgrounds are primarily simple or blank but the facial expressions on the characters really bring the emotions forward. I liked how the dubious consent scenes were not depicted as much as the one where there was clear consent. It doesn’t change or reduce the wrongness of those incidents but it helps acknowledge that those moments shouldn’t be entertained. The character designs were my favorite, especially their hair because it had volume and personality. I can’t really put it into words but the hair made it enjoyable too. I also liked how in just a handful of chapters the characters had shown more clothing and hairstyle changes than other similar works.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, plot aside. I loved the two characters because they are flawed and acknowledge it. Their relationship wasn’t smooth sailing and didn’t start with the best intentions, but I love how they grew into being a cute couple at the end. This isn’t a story for everyone but I would recommend giving it a try if you can.
