Star Quest is the account of the epic voyage of a single ship in the 23rd century. They embarked on a journey towards the very heart of the Galaxy. Drawn from their own records, this book tells the story of their extraordinary adventures during their solitary and often dangerous passage through strange and distant worlds.

Beautiful pictures to go along with each story.

And so on to the second book ib the Galactic Encounters series of books - this rather follows the same form as the Aliens in space book - again focusing on a number of science fiction artists and weaving a sort of commentary around them all.

This time you have a book which tells the daring do of an extra ordinary expedition - and for me the presence of a story (however thin it might be) made reading the book a lot easier and more enjoyable.

I think what appeals to me about this series is that many of the images are taken from famous pieces of work which invariably have ended up gracing covers of books I have not only seen but in many cases own.

So for all the rather cheesy text and questionable black and white supporting images (reminds me of the type seen in early role playing books - think Traveller) it is was a rather nostalgic read.

There are a total (that I know of) books in the series the question is how easy is it to locate the others

Great source of retro-futuristic sci-fi art. Packed with high-quality, full-color prints of paintings. Narrative leaves something to be desired-- seems to be loosely constructed as a means to bridge the pictures together. About as cohesive and interesting as a classic trek episode.

I just adore these amazing relics of a bygone era—and a bygone childhood. Science fiction cover art is reused to illustrate a cobbled-together story presented in a journalistic form. These books—this, the second in the second series—can be difficult to find, and are, let’s say, “clunky” reads, but come for the art, stay for the strangeness.

One of the first sci-fi books I read as a kid. Would adult me like it? I don't know, but 8-year-old me did. And to this day I remain quite fond of the particular art style.
