The pacing was a strange to me. Little to no chemistry. Quick changes with no explanation. Lots of bigs words that just felt out of place. Just felt off the whole time.

In Denise Diana Huddle's first installment of the Deadly Secrets Texas Trilogy, Stolen Secrets, we are plunged into the volatile world where West Texas ranching meets the high-stakes drama of the oil and gas industry. The story centers on Sarah Chandler, a determined ranch manager with a deep-seated distrust of oil companies, and Ethan Tanner, an enigmatic landman sent by the formidable White Stag Exploration to manage the local drilling conflicts. After a catastrophic blowout on a leased property, Sarah and Ethan find themselves reluctantly bound together, navigating threats that rapidly escalate from vandalism and corporate deceit to murder and a full-blown manhunt. The novel deftly weaves a modern-day conflict over water and land rights with a historical treasure hunt tied to Jim Bowie and the legendary Lost Silver Mines of San Saba, forcing the protagonists to race against the clock and the local corrupt power structure to uncover the truth behind a missing brother and a vast, generations-old conspiracy.

I found the book's pacing and narrative momentum to be exceptional. It captured my attention immediately and held it throughout the story. The author's background as a landman and private investigator shines through in the detail of the setting. From the descriptions of caliche roads and the challenges of managing exotic game to the specific, technical realities of an oil rig blowout, it all felt rich and authentic. This expertise lends a tangible grounding to the plot. It makes the world of Logan County, Texas, feel less like fiction and more like a lived-in reality. The dialogue is often sharp and witty (especially Sarah's quick, sardonic comebacks), but occasionally veers toward heavy exposition, particularly when delivering crucial historical context or complex backstory. This is a small price to pay for the sheer depth and complexity of the conspiracy being unveiled.

What resonated with me were the ideas explored beneath the thriller's surface. Huddle takes on themes of forgiveness, personal scars, and the damaging cycle of bitterness. I was moved by the emotional core of Sarah and Ethan's relationship. Sarah's refusal to let go of the past, her anger stemming from the loss of her father and the devastating car accident, is a powerful counterpoint to Ethan's quiet quest for redemption following his own tragic history. Watching their layers peel back, particularly in moments of high stress like the harrowing escape from the burning house, allowed me to genuinely root for their connection, even as I was conflicted by Ethan's initial deception. The book succeeds not just as a mystery, but as a tender look at how two damaged people, both scarred emotionally and physically by irresponsible actions, find healing in mutual reliance and truth.

Stolen Secrets is a triumph of plot over pretense. It is a perfect read for fans of Texas-based romantic suspense and corporate thrillers, specifically those who enjoy the blending of contemporary action with intriguing historical mysteries. If you enjoy authors who build genuine chemistry between competent, high-stakes protagonists while providing a deep dive into an authentic and well-researched setting, this book is for you.

Stolen Secrets was small town, western, enemies to lovers romance.
This story started off with Sarah on a mission to protect her land from big oil digging on her land and trying to protect her land and animals from harm. Here she meets Evan, an ex military now working with the big oil company. Her and Evan immediately feel drawn to one another, but she also dislikes him because of his job. An explosion goes off and starts the whole mystery. Things are happening and Sarah can't seem to make sense of why. She gets Evan's help in trying to find out what happened to her missing brother. They fall for each other, but Evan is holding back a very big secret from her.
Initially, in the beginning, I had a hard time getting into the story. I'm not from Texas and have no clue about farming and farm land or big oil companies... So the beginning of the story had me struggling to keep my attention. Once the explosion happened and the story itself picked up, I enjoyed I much much more. I enjoyed the little adventure Evan and Sarah went on in search of her brother, looking for details and following each one to see where it leads them. I loved how everything came together at the end. Now.... the only thing I think about them at the ending is.... it was way too soon for that and it took away from the story for me. I am interested in seeing where this story goes next thought. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Spice Level: 🌶

Western, Small Town, Romantic Suspense

Stolen Secrets is a pretty solid kick-off to Denise Diana Huddle's Deadly Secrets Texas Trilogy. Poor Texas rancher Sarah Chandler is juggling more problems than she signed up for. Just when she thinks it can’t get worse, Ethan Tanner walks in. He is a Special Forces vet turned landman for the oil company, and surprise, surprise, he’s not just another suit. He is smart, funny, and, let’s be honest, not hard on the eyes. When Sarah and Ethan team up to solve a murder and dodge a killer, sparks fly, but don’t worry, the romance doesn’t steal the spotlight. It is more like a slow burn in the background, letting the main plot do its thing. Think of it as a movie where the romance is a nice subplot, not the whole show. The story leans more towards a "why-done-it" than a "whodunit," with a pace that keeps you interested without going all Michael Bay on you. Ethan’s reluctance to believe makes him feel real, and the plot strikes a good balance between being believable and still giving you those big, dramatic moments we all secretly love. So, if you’re in the mood for a light mystery with a side of Western flair and a dash of romance, Stolen Secrets is worth a read. It’s got just enough suspense to keep you turning the pages without going overboard.

🧡ARC Review🧡

Stolen Secrets by Denise Diana Huddle

ARC was provided by the author and I happily give my honest opinion.

Sarah is trying to protect the land around her from Big Oil and Evan is sent to site to protect their interests.

They should not like each other, but the attraction between them is instantaneous!

He sees that she is a strong, determined, caring person. She sees that he is protective and trying to do the right thing.

They both have things from their pasts that have colored their world view and they are both quite stubborn.

Things have been strange in Sarah’s world for a while, starting with the disappearance of her brother. When the oil workers come more unexplainable things make even more confusing.

They are thrown together to work out why everything is happening and he needs his past self military training to keep them both safe.

The mystery side of the story gave me a lot real Clive Cussler feel. I always loved the adventure in his books and this had that for me.

Their pasts definitely give a good insight to why they acted the way they did and I loved how they both made each other open their eyes to other possibilities.

I did find the very end slightly cheesy, but overall I really enjoyed the story.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Suspense-Fueled, High-Stakes Thriller with Heart

Stolen Secrets is the kind of book that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go until the very last page. Denise Diana Huddle blends her deep insider knowledge of Texas oilfields and investigative work into a riveting, high-stakes suspense story brimming with tension, heart, and unexpected romance.

Sarah Chandler is the kind of heroine you root for from the jump fierce, independent, and refreshingly grounded. Her journey to uncover the truth behind her brother’s disappearance pulls readers into a whirlwind of danger, corruption, and buried secrets, all set against the raw, dust-kissed backdrop of West Texas.

Ethan Tanner, the swoon-worthy special forces vet turned oil exec, adds a compelling emotional layer to the story. Their chemistry is electric, but what really makes this story shine is how authentically the characters are written their fears, flaws, and hopes feel deeply real.

The pacing is tight, the stakes are sky-high, and just when you think you’ve figured it all out, Huddle throws in another twist that keeps you turning pages late into the night. This is romantic suspense done right smart, sharp, and emotionally satisfying.

Whether you’re a fan of mystery, slow-burn romance, or Texas-sized thrills, Stolen Secrets is a must-read. I’m already grabbing the next book in the trilogy.

I'm not real sure about the title of the book, but it was enjoyable to read, even if a bit frustrating at times with the behavior of some of the characters. The lead characters, though, were fun to "watch". A feisty woman who manages multiple farms or ranches and a somewhat high-strung fellow who works for an oil company with the responsibility to help keep good relations with the land manager.

Complicating everything is the fact that a cousin of the woman actually owns the mineral rights to all of the property and he is hell-bent on making life difficult for her and making himself rich. There are a lot of happenings in the story, with nasty things done to anyone who resists this guy, who happens to have the county sheriff in his pocket. And another side story is the brother of the woman has gone missing and nobody has a clue what happened to him. In the end we learn what happened and who was at fault, but getting there involves a lot of speculation and investigation by the woman.

So if you don't mind wading through a lot of details and enjoy seeing a blossoming relationship between the two main characters without knowing where it will lead, then this book is for you!

This started with a bang, literally, and it was a run for your life for the rest of the story!

Plot: 5📍
Spice: 1❤️‍🔥
Overall: 5⭐

Ethan, is your man in management, 6'5", blue eyes, (you know the song!), and a former Parajumper who stumbles into an absolute sh*tshow. His first day on the job site blows up in face and he's thrown together with a very sassy, very feisty, very capable ranch owner and manager, Sarah.

Literal chaos ensures, metaphorical fireworks fly, and I was along for the ride! I couldn't put this book down! And what a ride! There's all the good tropes you want in a thriller/mystery: missing person, family secrets, corruption... So good!

Ms. Huddle writes from her personal experience as a land manager for an oil company as well as a long career as a private investigator and from clearly meticulous research into true Texas history and lore.

This book is such a fantastic blend of real life and fiction!

You absolutely don't want to miss this or put it down once you grab it!

These Things We Do, That Others May Live - Ethan

First read from this author, and I will be coming back for more!
This novel pulled me in from the first chapter, and I had a hard time putting it down, which means, it was basically read in one sitting with a small lunch break. Throughout the book, I was trying to figure out who the “bad guy” was and thought I had it figured out, when there was a twist to it! I won’t ruin it by spilling the beans here, but it did throw me a little bit.
I liked how both main characters had to re-evaluate their personal beliefs. The book brought up a few issues; fracking and the impact that it has on the environment, impaired driving and the impact it has on the victims/survivors/family of accidents as well as the impact it has on the impaired driver involved in an accident. Unless a person has been personally involved in either of these instances, it’s hard to determine how one will react or feel regarding the situation. I like the way Denise portrayed all views on these subjects.
Definitely a good read and recommend!

This story has lots of action, suspense, and a mystery. Sarah may be small in stature, but she is fierce. Ethan doesn't know what to think about Sarah at first, but soon he realizes that she has a spine of steel. Ethan works for an oil company and Sarah does not trust anyone who works for an oil company. When Sarah finds that someone is cutting the locks on her gates, she is sure it has something to do with the oil company. Ethan can't find anyone who would have a reason to do that, so he and Sarah investigate. What they find is Ethan's boss has been shot with a bolt. As they run from someone trying to kill them, they are trying to figure out why Sarah's brother is missing and why Ethan's boss was killed. Ethan finds that he really has feelings for Sarah, but when she finds out that he hasn't been completely truthful with her, she won't want anything to do with him. Ethan will do anything to keep her safe and then, if she wants him to, he will walk away. Can they stay alive long enough to find answers?

I went into this book not knowing what to expect. I normally dont read third person POVs but this book sucked me in from the beginning.
Sarah is a tough as nails rancher who not only runs her family's ranch but oversees multiple other operations. She’s in the midst of making sure the oil people are following protocol and not contaminating the place she calls home when her brother goes missing without a trace.
While searching for clues as to where her brother disappeared to, she crosses paths with Ethan, who is who is overseeing the drilling operation she’s been keeping her eye on. When a series of events happen and they’re forced to work together to find out what’s really going on not only do they uncover long lost secrets of the ranch but of themselves too.

If you like mystery with a side of thrill and a touch of romance then this book is for you! I can’t wait to read the next in the trilogy ❤️

Part thriller, part mystery, part romance, this is a fast read that kept my interest. Set in the west Texas oil fields, this novel highlights conflict between land owners and oil producers ... but the greatest danger lies closer to home, with secrets that have been buried for almost 200 years. Texas history and local color enhance the memorable characters and action-filled plot. Enjoy!

I am not a fan of "romance novels," but this book has so much more to offer, that I'm glad I read it, and look forward to the rest of the series.

I received an ARC from the author, and this is my honest opinion. I liked this book better than I expected, and thought the history was very well -researched. The dialogue seemed natural and the characters were interesting. I plan to read more of this author's work.

I read quite a few books each week, and to come across a book that had me intrigued by the prologue, hooked by page 14, and wishing I could read faster so I could devour the book hasn’t happened in a long time. One thing: for a former PJ, our MMC was a little slow on the uptake for the plot, but was right there for noticing our FMC.

I highly enjoyed the story, pace and writing. It was a good balance of mystery, character building and slow romance story that draws you in immediately and kept you there until the end. I would have loved for the author to tell us in her acknowledgements if any of the Texas history is true, or based on kernels of fact. That’s just the history mystery lover in me, though.

I highly recommend this book, and I look forward to reading more from this author.

My first book by Denise Huddle and she did not disappoint! I couldn't put the book down! It has everything you could possibly want: mystery, suspense, instant attraction, and a treasure hunt

Sarah is a ranch owner as well as a ranch manager for several properties in the state of Texas, Sarah is determined to protect the land, water, and animals on her land and those she manages from big oil companies. When she has grievances, she brings them to Ethan, an ex-special forces veteran, who happens to work for the big oil company that is drilling on her ranch. However, things take a turn when odd things start happening around West Texas, such as her locks being cut, her animals being poached, and her brother missing.

Go on an unforgettable adventure with Sarah and Ethan as they attempt to solve Sarah's brothers disappearance and figure out why things are becoming volatile.

That famous saying, “Everything’s Bigger in Texas”…
That famous quote fits perfectly for Denise Diana Huddle’s new book “Stolen Secrets”.

Bigger Everything: ranches …oil …trucks …secrets …mysteries …problems …love …vengeance …money. But don’t let that be the determining factor for you to claim this “must read” as your own. There’s also larger than life servings of loyalty …partnerships … strenuous work …commitments …and love, an all around, worth fighting for love, whether for oneself or others & their community.

Denise Diana Huddle has made book 1 in this trilogy an exciting ride, one not to be missed.

(I received an ARC copy of this new novel. My opinion & review is mine alone, & well worth every second invested in time & enjoyment.)

Stolen Secrets by Denise Diana Huddle is the first book in the Deadly Secrets Texas Trilogy and I loved it!
You can read it as a standalone, no cliffhangers!
It literally starts with a bang and I was immediately drawn into the story. Non stop action, intrigue and suspense!
I read it in one sitting because I just couldn’t put it down!
I really liked Ethan and Sarah and the way they fell for each other.
Sarah is a strong lady and not scared of anything, I loved that!
The way the author describes the scenery makes you feel like you are right there in Texas between the rattlesnakes and the giant mosquitos.
I’m looking forward to read the next book in the series!
I received this arc from the author and this review is my honest opinion!

I believe this is the first book by this author I've read and I've pre-ordered the next in the series.

A few times the story was bogged down by details of looking for clues. I felt the ending was rushed and instead of ending at 95% on my e-reader for teaser, ending could have been more flushed out.

Lovemaking only once described, and heat level 3 out of 5. I did like the couple and felt a connection to them.

Story has suspenseful moments, violence, nasty villains who you know early in story, twists and intrigue. What happened to the secondary character Tran?

No cheating, some secrets, no cliffhanger, HEA, tad of romance and steam. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you extra tidbits to decide whether to purchase. (ljb)

A handsome ex special forces oil landman. A beautiful, but damaged ranch manager. Missing treasure. Missing brother. Gun fights and run-for-your-life chases. This book starts with a bang and the pace just doesn't let up! Somehow Denise Huddle manages to deliver a book that is, in places very predictable, yet at the same time has your head reeling from all the plot twists! Did I stay awake much later than I should have, in order to find out what happened next? Absolutely! I thoroughly enjoyed the book and have already recommended it to friends when it is released! I can't wait for the next installment in this trilogy to be released!

So this book is about ranchers, mystery, murder, and slow burning love. It does start a little slow but it picks up really fast. There are so many twist in the book. I felt like I was a detective trying to figure out this and why was this happening. I honestly felt so bad for the MFC because she dealt with so much and was a boss women because of it. It is a short read. But I honestly liked it a lot. Like I said. It is slow burning, but you can see the attraction right away in both MC. But that ending is so good! You get the HEA that both MC deserve! I can't wait to read the other books in this series.

Ever wondered about how oil drilling/ranching/love can combine?

In Stolen Secrets, the reader goes on quite the adventure starting with a missing brother and oil drilling, then there’s poaching and a mystery from long ago.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It is obvious Ms. Huddle takes pride in Texas and includes bits and pieces of the state in this work. Using her PI background, the story is complex and has multiple points at one time to keep the reader interested. This is a non-spice book so perfect for the more innocent readers.

Although not my usual genre, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. What could be better than a conflict between the ranch woman and the oil landman. Warily, Sarah Chandler, Rocking J ranch manager teams with Ethan Tanner, White Stag’s landman, when they become targets of killer, all while trying to find her brother.

There is a lot of action, suspense, twists and turns, and just the right amount of sexual attraction to make for a great read. The characters are well developed and the story unfolds in a way that keeps you turning the pages.

Stolen Secrets draws the reader in from the beginning when the Sarah's brother goes missing. With oil drilling on her land, and too many irons in the fire, it is ironic that the new well catches fire. Sarah and Ethan both have had trauma in their pasts that make their jobs important to them. The trust between them builds slowly as does the attraction. Can they stay alive long enough to solve all the mysteries around them and will they find Sarah's brother alive? This was a can't miss book, and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

This story starts off with a bang and it just never slows down. There's a lot going on down in West Texas, from the mystery of what happened to Sarah's brother, to what her corrupt cousin is up to, and what nefarious no-good the oil company drilling her land is cooking up. That oil company's landman is Ethan and he's got some dark secrets. As the two of them take flight running for their lives, they can't fight their smoldering attraction to each other. This book gets your heart pounding with the high stakes adventure and the ultra-steamy romance. It's a fun read, you should check it out.

I finished this book last night and enjoyed every minute of reading it. There were lots of twist and turn to keep anyone interested in this story line. It took me to just about the end to figure out who was behind all the problems but I finally figured it out. The author had lots of excellent information regarding oil field drilling and how it all works so it keep yoiu interested in what you where reading. I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a excellent storyline and alot of action. I can not wait for the next book in this series.

If you're looking for a good mystery/suspense book with a little romance element then you'll enjoy this one. Sarah and Ethan meet when he's sent to "handle" the problem landowner next door to the drilling site. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to rest of the series. This is a trilogy but it doesn't end in a cliff hanger which I really appreciated. I would recommend this to my friends who want plot not smut! The characters have depth and grow throughout their interactions. Sarah is a very strong take control of the situation character that is only complimented by Ethan's skills.

If you love a good mystery/suspense with some slow burn romance, you will love this book as much as I did. The storyline of this book is excellent, and there were so many little twists that kept me guessing. I love the ranch setting, and the author’s personal knowledge gave the book a very authentic feel. Sarah is an absolute force of an FMC…strong, independent, but very guarded due to some past trauma. And Ethan is funny and sweet, but with a tortured past of his own. I really loved their journey of healing together. Overall this was a wonderful, quick read, and a great start to this series!

I really enjoyed this book! It is the first book in a series but it can stand alone. This book stands out as a very different storyline from your typical romance book which I loved. There is mystery, romance and secrets that swirl together to make a really great read. I like that because of the story about the ranch and oil turned murder mystery, this story creates a slow burn romance woven into it. It's a little touch Western, romance and mystery all rolled into one. I am very much looking forward to the other books in this series and more from this author!

Stolen Secrets starts slow with its heavy focus on farmland and oil, which can feel unfamiliar if you’re not from that world. But once the explosion kicks off, the story really takes off into an engaging mystery filled with danger, secrets, and romance. I loved following Sarah and Evan’s search for her missing brother and seeing how the pieces came together in the end. While the romance wrapped up a little too quickly for my taste, the adventure kept me hooked, and I’m excited to see where the series goes next.
