Order of Helsing #2

Hunt the Dusk

Rate this book
The Vampire king’s fascination with me has drawn me into a game I’m not sure I can win.

I thought I had Ezekiel under control. That his hunger was tempered, and we had an understanding, but he proved me wrong in the most horrific way.

This is a game to him, and I’m his latest toy.

I want to run, but the hunters’ revelations are shackles forcing me to hold my course and do my duty. Because there is more at stake here than I could ever have imagined.

The fate of our world hinges on the vampire king’s rapidly waning humanity, and it’s up to me to help restore it.

But how do you teach a monster to care?

I have less than a year to figure that out…

Orina's (FMC) life is gradually getting more complicated as she's drawn deeper into Ezekiel's World. With that more of his backstory are uncovered. Add to that her duties for The Order, Ordell, Hemlock and other characters that bring more problems. The banter and steam Orina seemed to be stuck in the middle of is off of the charts hot! That cliff-hanger ending was just knockout. Bring on book 3 because I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I'm obsessed with this series (in fact I'm writing this review halfway through the next book because I couldn't take a break between them to do so.)

The FMC is flawed...everyone in the story is. No one is all powerful, no one has all the answers, no one is invincible. Everyone is just out there trying to do their best, and hurting a whole bunch of people accidentally in the process. Everyone is just so human (despite none of them actually being human) and it's such a refreshing story to read. My heart breaks for everyone.

I started this series because of one of those spicy line tiktoks but be warned....the FMC has a vow of chastity so there is nothing but yearning and slow-simmering heat, not really any actual spice. (I assume this will change at some point but who knows!) This is not to say don't read them, just be warned that if you're here from tiktok, that one slide is not a good representation of the spice level.

I am aware that I say this almost every time a write a review about one of this author’s books, but it’s just so true. She can weave a tale with so many twists and turns you don’t see coming, and I just love that. This latest has me in awe once again. Poor Orina has so much going on in her life, and she is trying to help multiple people, which I can’t say too much about because I don’t do spoilers. We learn some secrets, we see there are more secrets, and there is going to be some complications coming in the next book. Bring it on! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Hunt the Dusk continues the ORder of Helsing series and this book is so good!! It's so hard to put it down once you start so make sure you settle in.
Hunt the Dusk picks up where book one left off. Orina must deliver the heartbreaking news to her friend's fiance that she is no more. Not an easy thing to do, and it shows in the fallout that takes place next. Of course, things don't stop there. Nope, cue chaos in 5...4...3...2...1 and BAM! Yeah, a mini showdown with Ezekiel and it's time to regroup.
This book does not let off the gas. Prepare to be page-turning to find out what happens next. This story is a literal race against time and a race to find out what happens next. Your only regret will be when you reach the final page and know that you'll have to "patiently" wait for book 3. Good luck with that.
Feel free to join us in the corner. Rocking session starts at 6. LOL!

Dam I could t wait to jump straight into this book. It starts exactly where the last one ended and didn’t even need a recap of why happened previously. Orina thought every thing was under control with the vampire king. But she was proven completely and utterly wrong. She wants to give up but with the revelations from the hunters she decided stay but her biggest problem is she doesn’t know hiw to get the vampire king to care and she has less than a year to do it for everyone’s sake. This one just heat up another notch from the first one. Can’t wait for book 3.

This series just keeps better and better. We get more character development in this book plus the growth of their "relationship". We get some questions answered but we get so many more unanswered. Of course, it ends on a cliffhanger that makes want the next book now!!

Slower paced but good

I feel like I was still recovering from the ending of book one so I do appreciate that those events aren’t just thrown aside. Some parts are addressed and I feel like the FMC finally understands what she’s gotten into. Sort of. I think she still needs to comprehend more. Other than a few scenes in the beginning, I did feel that the pace of this book was quite slow. There was a decent amount of action at the end of book one with many revelations and this just felt so slow after that.

When the book did start to pick up, maybe 3/4 of the way through, I felt invested once again. However, I did feel like I struggled a bit during the beginning of this book. I do wish the author would have referenced more of the revelations from book one in this book, even just a little recap.

There wasn’t much character development in this book, it was more story driven rather than character. I’d also say the romance is second, which I don’t mind. I think there’s a lot for the story to offer but I would have liked to care more about the characters. Sometimes I don’t mind that with more story driven books, but I feel if we’re supposed to sympathize with some of the characters I do want to care about them more.

Much like book one, the ending of book two does have me interested in book three. I’m hoping we can see more connections and become more invested with the characters and their stories. While the story says the overall impact is going to mean something, it’s not quite there, yet.

Hunt the Dusk is the second book in the Order of Helsing series and I have to say it's even better than the first.

Orina seems different in this one less ridged and more naive than I ever thought she was. I love her stubborn determination to do her job because she knows the consequences but I love that she's also revealing more of her heart.

Is this a RH? I still don't know the answer to that question because Orina is involved with too many guys. Hemlock let out a hint of something besides anger towards Orina, things with Ordell have escalated (they kinda break my heart), who knows what Ezekiel is playing at, and there is Kaster. I like him, a lot and want to see more of him but I don't necessarily trust him. Omg the guy drama is real which is odd for someone who is supposed to be celibate.

Plot-wise, this book is exciting. A few subplots happening, the missing supes, the curse, and vampire politics which is wildly interesting and not just because Ezekiel is playing for keeps. I find the whole thing fascinating and can't wait to see how everything plays out in the overall story arc. One thing is for sure I had plenty of theories but I didn't expect the changes that occurred.

Just when things were getting good Hunt the Dusk ended on the most shocking plot twist that left me gasping. I don’t believe it. Not for one minute. Debbie has some tricks up her sleeve and I can't wait to see what they are.

3.5 Again

I gave book one a 3.5 star review and I don't feel like I can give this one a better rating. I'm trying not to be overly critical, but I'm having a hard time liking the characters. The plot, what I've gotten feel for anyway, seems fine. Its dragging out and I don't know what the full plot is, but it's fine. Orina just doesn't seem that great. She loses pretty much every battle she goes into. I don't understand her attraction to anything other than the physical appearance of the men, yet she can barely control herself around them. They are all awful to her. She makes excuses for them and reads into everything looking for reasons why they aren't so bad. Lets talk about the guys. Ezekiel is the devil. I don't care about curses or whatever. He's not nice. He isn't redeemable. But I know that we will be expected to believe he's good somehow and we should absolve him of his wrongdoings because he's "changed". You know I'm right! Hemlock might be ok in his own way since he's trying to keep his distance. Ordell started out ok, but I don't like the changes in him.
I guess that I'm disappointed that I've finished book 2 and there are no real relationships. Nobody has had sex. The characters are moving further apart instead of closer together (exception Ezekiel). The plot is dragging. By now I was hoping for a little more progress. I feel that the story is interesting but it's stagnating. I'll keep reading, but I'm not overly impressed right now.

Crazy ride!!!

Omg this second book in the Order of Helsing took us on a CRAZY ride. Orina is now being required to live in the castle with Ezekiel and is trying her best to help him find his humanity again. But another problem has arisen that Ordell’s beast has marked her, and that may not be a good thing in the long run with what has happened in the past. She cultivates a relationship as well with Kaster, who I absolutely love. And then there are her feelings for Hemlock AND Ezekiel as well. Especially after the huge debacle that happened at the Vampire Summit and finding out that her blood is special. All this going on and she still has the Order work to handle – one being the missing supes that all seems to dead end at the border of the Fae lands which was a super cool part. And Padma on her team starts acting super weird – and the Dr. Hyde/Mr Jeckyl person (at least I assume that’s who its supposed to be!) was sooo cool to have in this story!

There was SOOO much that happened in this story, but so far its been REALLY a slow burn (mostly because of the Order making them Pure). I really hope that this ends up being a RH with Ezekiel, Hemlock, Ordell AND Kaster with Orina. But the cliffhanger at the end? OMG I cant wait to see how that plays out!!! Great story - I absolutely love Debbie Cassidy's books!! 5 stars for SURE!

Love the first book and loved this one just a much... the cliff hanger not so much! How could you do this to us! Just as we though we knew what was going on you threw that little spanner in the works?!

The story just keeps getting better and better, more mystery, some answers and then more mystery piled on top!

I'm loving the dynamics between Orina and the guys, each very individual and the development between them is constantly changing, keeping the intrigue.

Ezekiel is changing, coming up against his own battle being King but his approach to Orina and his life in general are adapting and twisting.. can't wait to see where this goes.

Ordell is struggling to contain his beasy as well as juggling his feelings for Orina, the relationship with his ex and how if affects his children and his relationships with them.

Hem is trying to deny his feelings to keep everyone calm and on track but little bits keep seeping out.. again, can't wait to see where this story goes!

Orina is at war with herself, her feelings and her duties to the order. Throw in Black and her issues with Merry and Padma and she's basically got the world on her shoulders!

Can't wait to see where this all ends, loving the journey so far!

Hunt the dusk is the second book of Orina's story. I'll start by saying Orina's story is one highly sought after seeing her appearances in Nyx and Quinn's. If you have not read their stories you must because they are amazing! Ouinn's is by far one of my favorites of Debbie's.
This book picks up where we left off in book one with Orina learning about other forces tampering with Ezekiel and the tie in of the hunters. Orina is so strong through her internal battles with the men that surround her. I really enjoyed the depth in which we got to know them more. I still have soo much hope for Ezekiel. Orina also shows that like Nyx and Quinn she is loyal in friendship. Padma's secret comes to life and solves the mystery yet leaves you curious for the what's next. This book had the right amount of spice and development to keep you intrigued. I'm dying for the next book after that cliffy but I trust Debbie. She always has a reason for my heartbreaks at the end. If you love this book do yourself a favor and go read her other works! She is so creative and her stories are amazing!

Interesting developments
There’s both character and storyline developments throughout this book which makes it a strong read! It’s a good balance between providing snippets of information that give you an idea as to what’s going whilst still keeping you intrigued in the story 😃 although an utter monster at times you begin to see a different side to Ezekiel so you really question whether there is any redemption there 🙈 the two brothers are definitely fighting the apparent feelings they have but it’s clear they are still holding things back…then there is Laster who also appears to be taken with Oriana and willing to help her with the mysteries happening in town 😳 it’s becoming clear that there is also more to our FMC but whether she’s the one to break this curse or not is unclear! there’s a lot to unpack in this book so it will be interesting to see how this continues to develop 👍

In full honesty, I have to admit I have a slightly harder time to “feel” this series the same way I’m used to with other works by this author. I’m not entirely sure about the reason for this; perhaps it’s the complexity in the relationship building? Or the fact that we rarely get a POV from one of the men? I can’t pinpoint a clear reason, so I guess it’s more of a me-thing than anything that’s got to do with the series itself.

Nevertheless, I still enjoy the storyline of this series. There is plenty of suspense, and the constant twists and turns both in plot development and relationship building keep me guessing to what’s coming next. I truly wonder how many books this series will have, because we only keep on getting more questions instead of answers so far. And I would really like some answers…

As usual, the author manages to end the book on a big revelation that feels like hanging from the steepest cliff. Let’s hope book three will bring all (or at least a lot of) the answers and some relationships going all in.

Few author's books that I devour with such haste as Debbie Cassidy, this second installment of the Order of Helsing is no exception. Learning more about the fantastic cast of characters and so many different and delightful subplots makes it even more tasty. Hunt the Dusk builds beautifully on book one Stalk the Dark, so reading book one is an imperative.

Orina and her people from the order are trying to manage and search for the forgotten people who have gone missing while she also does her best to manage the men in her life. Ezekiel's chaos keeps her on her toes and Hemlock and Ordell do their best to guard her. To round out the men in her life is Kaster who she shares this intimacy with due to the way they must communicate, there is something about it that just has me longing for more.

Debbie Cassidy has such delightful storytelling and so much is going on, but in a good way, that by the end of the book you are sad there are no more pages to turn and longing for the next installment.

There are few books that when i get i simply put everything aside just to read the book.
This is one of them.
I love the story and the characters and the flow of everything.
This book is so thrilling and so enticing that you just want to never let it go.
The story only get better and better and more complicated and leaves you wanting more and more.
The complexity of the characters and the depths of them and how their relatiosnhips bloom leaves you wanting more and wishing the author did give you more.
Ezekiel is changing but so is Orina.
In this books we saw more of the twins but i have to say that their development in this book was kinda paused.
I can feel and see the dynamics changing and many dark and big secrets are about to be unconvered or discovered and it will be life altering.
There was a lot of screaming and wishing and angst from my part while reading this book.
I want to see Orina happy and i want to see her with all her men ....i need to see her with all of them!
Can't wait for the next book

Yeah, I am going to need more from this series, so glad that there will be. Hunt the Dusk is book two of the Helsing series. I think as usual with Debbie's books you need to read them in order to understand what is going on, here is no different. Also I know i feel like I am a broken record, but she just keeps getting better and better. She is such an imaginative author, that just transports me to a place each and every series.

As usual, which Debbie IMO writes the best female leads, has an interesting and fun, female lead. The storyline is addicting, I am always needing to know what happens next. Debbie always will keep you on your toes, she gives and she takes. She gives answers and then creates new questions. Her writing style is one of my fave of all times. She is just an amazing author in my opinion.

Orina my girl, you will get your happy ending and I am going to follow you the whole way until you do. Your guys, I want you with all of them.

This is an amazing series that I would highly recommend.

It all seems to be a game - a deadly and unpredictable game, just like the vampire king himself. Orina as his watcher has her hands full, being annoyed by Ezekiel's attitude but still being drawn to him, desperate to find any trace of humanity in the ancient man. The situation with Ordell and Hemlock also escalates almost to the point of no return, and the alliance with Kaster is turning into half-pretended dating too. Moreover, there is the mystery of Padma's condition and the still unsolved disappearance cases.. all while Loviator is trying to get free and the vampires scheming against each other.
Absolutely thrilling story that keeps me glued to the pages until the last sentence. I love that there are references to Nyx and Quinn makes appearance too. It is always amazing to see how the worlds are interconnected, how stories tie to another. The story is brilliant, complex, written in a very natural and compelling way, and there are characters that play my emotions like a musical instrument. And that cliffhanger... oh my, I need the next book asap.

I love the toe-to-to moments between Orina and Ezekiel. The power struggle between them is tentatively in both of their favor, but also neither of their favors, throughout the book. You can see how the dynamic starts to change gradually building up to big climactic moments that have you on the edge of your seat.
The entire situation with Ordell and Hemlock is almost rooted in mystery with some hints but also small reveals to keep you anticipating the next step. Ordell is one of my favorite characters, with his mostly Golden retriever personality but I can’t say I don’t love Hemlock and his broodiness. And those personalities stayed true through this second book as well. I can’t wait to find out what happens with Ordell and Orina.
Orina is also coming to dead ends at every step with her missing persons mystery, and calling in anyone she can get to help. Even from a certain, not so controlling, dashing vampire. I’m excited to see how that “relationship” pans out.
Stoked for the next book!

This is book 2, and you need to have read book 1. This book also ends on a cliffhanger too - I did not see that coming.

I am loving all the mystery surrounding Ezekiel past, but the secrets Hemlock and Ordell are keeping are frustrating me so much, I just want them to share everything!

The connection Orina is building with Kaster is so sweet, and she seems to have found a truce with Ordell and Hemlock, but I am really struggling with her attraction to Ezekiel, I'm just not seeing it (yet?). I'm also not sure I can forgive him for what he did in book 1.

Orina is also building better relationships with her team as they try and solve why people are going missing.

As always, the world building is fascinating, and the politics are surrounded in centuries of tradition. Lots of different things going on, which I'm sure will be connected at some point.

I'm looking forward to the next book to find out more!

Hunt the Dusk by Debbie Cassidy is book two in the Order of Helsing Series. I will say you must read book one first as this is not a standalone. With that being said oh my gosh how can a book just keep getting better and better as it goes on? I’m addicted and the way I flew through this book was crazy, my kindle got a workout. I will say I have so many questions that I need answered! I’m loving/ digging these characters so much. But I’ve always enjoyed myself a good enemies to lovers story. But I think my favorite aspect of this story is how the intrigue is just woven through the pages. I will mention that this does end on a cliffhanger and the anticipation I have for the next book is mind boggling. I’m so anxious and I need answers! The writing was really good and the storyline just keeps you invested. Overall my reading time just flew by while o was engrossed with this book, I highly recommend it.

I just had my whole entire soul ripped out by this book. This is book 2 in The Order of Helsing. And boy is this a doozy of a continuation from the first book. Spoilers may abound.

We get into more of the meat of the story and learn more about the others she works with. (Hello Daddy Kaster) We also meet few new characters some who cannot be trusted.

I love we get to see Ezekiel trying to have some humanity. I know he’s a 🍑🕳 but I love him.

BUT we find out that bite Ordell gave her was a mate bite. And we also find out why they can't be mated beyond because of the Order. But they still get a little steamy.

Hemlock is trying to hold it all together while making sure his own demons don't come out to play.

Now on to Daddy Kester. I need more of him. And his "friend" Atlas who is still mysterious but I have faith we will get more info on him.

But I do have issue on that cliffhanger Debbie leaves us with. I don't like it one bit BUT I know she won't leave us hanging for long.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

This is a good story but you must read book 1 first to understand what is happening , it's really not an standalone and jumping in the middle of the story is confusing so read in order it's fantastic , though there are cliffhangers.

Really i liked Orina, she is deeply loyal and she is doing her best in the circonstances , she has doubts but she does not give up and even when in the middle of big troubles she still find time to help friends. I also loved that she did not hesitate to speak her mind.

Ezekiel is still a mystery but he does seem to care for Orine ( though i prefer Kaser he seems more honest and trustful)

Really it's a good story to keep you hooked once immersed, with secret, treachery ( not proof yet but too many malfunctions not to be sure of it) and lot of mysteries, action, lingering romance it's perfectly balanced.

We can't wait to see what Orina will discover and what will happen next!

This book starts up right after the first one and delves more into the FMC, Orlina, and the King (Ezekial) "relationship".

The FMC, Orina, continues to struggle with her task as Watcher over Ezekial, who I really had issues with, even though some of how he came to be, isn't really his fault but, due to a psychotic goddess.

The two other MMCs were Hunters, Hemlock and Ordell, who I have a love-hate relationship with. I know why they do the things they do and the reason but, some of it made me just want to throw my kindle across the room while they did it!

Lastly, that cliffy man, I'm like dying to know what happens next. It's still a great 2nd book in the trilogy so, I highly recommend reading if you want a different take on the helsing story with a romantic twist mixed in here and there!

I’m trying really hard to type a review that doesn’t get flagged on Amazon but BY THE STARS DEBBIE. You always have to do us dirty with those cliff hangers. Everything you write is always worth it in the end but THE RIDE TO GET THERE IS ROUGH!

There are a whole lot of pretty big problems going on throughout the story, even when the issue isn’t given a huge dramatic moment, we should recognize all the things that will tie together in the end. Like what’s going on with the blood? The people missing, the memory issue, the ancient vampires, the attacks etc etc etc so many issues that all need answers. This author does a fantastic job of tying her books all together and presenting an ending that you’ll love but it never fails that I’m scratching my head because I can’t piece it together beforehand until the very end.

Desperately waiting for the next book!
… btw who is that girl!!

Make sure to read book one before you read this one as that one ended on a cliffhanger that you're going to need to know about before you read this one. We've found out some intriguing facts about Ezekiel, Hemlock and Ordell in the previous book and there is more to come in his one. Though the latter are definitely keeping more secrets that we don't know about yet.

Orina is building on her relationships with others in this book and I don't just mean the King of Vampires and the Watchers. We get to see her getting closer to the team she has been tasked to work with.

I'm still not sure if this is going to turn out to be a why choose story in the end, but with Orina "dating" Kaster at various points in the story, you never know.

There's so much more to find out in this story and we ended on another epic cliffhanger, can't wait for book three.

Hunt the Dusk

You are truly beautiful, Orina…’ My cheeks warmed. ‘I’m not used to compliments.’ He lightly touched my cheek. ‘I hope I can change that.’ His fingers dropped to my shoulder then skimmed down my arm. My markings warmed and tingled beneath his touch, and I bit back a gasp.’

Hunt the Dusk is Debbi Cassidy’s 2nd book in her Order of Helsing series, and it follows Orina and her complicated relationships with a variety of vampires and other paranormals.

Once again, Cassidy provides drama and sexual tension while developing her characters’ flaws and accomplishments. We are along for a very bumpy ride because hidden truths and mental anguish belies worries about the future of mankind.

Thrilling and complicated, this story pulls us along, tempting and teasing us into wishing for the next book in the series!
