I've seen the worst humanity has to offer. I gave up everything for my country as a career spy. Now, the only thing my daughter wants from me is to get her mother, my first and only love, to her wedding.
The mother of my child is just as stunning as she was three decades ago. When I approach her, she immediately attacks, protecting herself in a way that I'd never seen before. Someone has hurt her. If I had to guess, they hurt her for years. Her walls are higher than the fucking Andes Mountains, hiding a wounded Princess inside.
I thought I was doing the right thing by staying away, but she thought I’d abandoned her. It sent her into the arms of a terrible man.
Now I see my mistake. Now, I see things clearly.
I will never fail her again.
I will spend the rest of my life protecting her, and making up for the time we've lost.
Danger Close is a second chance, ex-military biker/spy, protector romance where he fell first, and kept on falling. It's an interconnected standalone in the Mourningkill series. You do not need to read any other book before this one.
This is my first book by this author and I was surprised to get the ARC and the card in the post. Thank you, that was very kind.
I thought this was a well thought out book, and although I haven’t read any of the others in the series, I did enjoy the story between Teri and Cobra.
My only issue is that I didn’t really connect with them like other MCs, I felt like the pace in the book wasn’t consistent, some parts were slow, and rightly so, due to explanation of ICE and other aspects, but others were so fast paced. When the fast paced was happening, I got excited thinking yes this is the story now, then the chapter ended and a new one started and I felt a bit lost again.
Teri as the FMC, I can understand why others may feel sorry for here there was a point where my heart literally broke for her. But that was it. She struggled to relax (obviously I understand why) but I feel like she could have trusted her daughter more, especially when she was an adult.
Cobra as the MMC, was all macho, dominant man with ‘my wife’ and ‘touch her and die’ vibes. I loved this side of him. He really tried hard to protect Teri - once he realised something was up. He was quite observant with her body language and behaviour.
Their daughter, I wasn’t keen on, she wasn’t a very integral part to the story, yet it revolved around her wedding. I would have liked to have seen more of her in the story somehow, or at least asking more questions about her life. Surely she would have cottoned on to something?! Children are observant and see and understand way more than adults give them credit, so why was she so shocked?
Either way, I enjoyed the story. Thank you again for the ARC.
Book 3 of The Mourningkill Series is my favorite, so far! Molly Briar delivers another thrilling and suspenseful romance with a rowdy cast of characters that are hilariously entertaining.
This is a second chance, it’s always been her/him, touch her and die romantic suspense with all the “my wife” moments!
Ghost/Cobra/Joe/Joaquin has spent his entire adult life as a spy. Having kept his distance from the only woman he has ever loved and the daughter they share for the last 30 years, all bets are off as he works to reunite the estranged mother and daughter for the latter’s upcoming nuptials. When he finds Teresa, her guard is up leaving him to wonder hurt his wife.
Except she isn’t his wife anymore and Teresa/Teri has been harboring a secret that has kept her running for the last 20 years in order to protect their daughter. Unaware of the type of man her ex actually is, Teri tries to push him away thinking it will keep away the danger that is constantly following her.
The Lucky 13 are called on once again to combat the danger and mischief that they continually attract, keeping them on their toes and not quite able to fully retire from military/spy way of life.
Thank you to the author for the eARC I can’t wait to see where the Lucky 13 land next!
TW and Spoiler Alert: This book contains references to ICE. The bad guys get what they deserve in the end and it only makes me wish that we will see this same poetic justice soon, IRL.

Oohhh we’ve got one of my favourite lines “my wife”. Making me feel very single but very hopeful for the future.
This was beautiful, I signed up for this ARC for the second chance, the “my wife” possibility and the possessive touch her and die. And god Molly did not disappoint!
Teri, has been abandoned by her husband, emotionally and physically tortured by another man (cheese d**k with a pistol) and has done everything from learning to fight and making the greatest sacrifice to keep her daughter safe.
Joe the husband is a spy (retired) and will do anything to fulfil his daughter’s wishes of her mother being at her wedding. Cue a back alley fight a fainting spell (not the magic kind) and a lot of tears, growth and learning we have an amazing book.
Having taught its readers (especially me) that just because it is what you know from family dynamics it does not make it precedence. That standing up for yourself when all seems lost and the decision to walk away is the hardest. To surround yourself with people who refuse to let you walk away.
If you are looking for an emotional rollercoaster that will have you screaming at the characters one minute and sobbing the next this is for you…enjoy? I know I did.

Something I enjoy about Molly’s books is how human her characters are. And that really comes through with Cobra and Teri. This is a second chance romance for a couple in their 50’s. They have lived a lifetime from when they were madly in love as young adults to when they reconnect decades later.
They are not the same people and Cobra really struggles with that in regard to Teri. She has gone through absolute hell after Cobra left and sacrificed her relationship with her daughter because of it. Legitimately so. And Cobra is just lost over it. He is still in love with Teri but she is a very broken woman and he has to regain her trust and figure out how to be the man she needs. He stumbles through it, making mistakes and righting wrongs and it made him a great non-perfect MMC, though he did grate on my nerves a few times, lol. His utter devotion to Teri, his commitment through the good and bad, is the only reason they make it, and that really comes through in the epilogue. He is not perfect, but he is a rock to rely on.
And Teri. She is the villainous mother in Fire for Effect and when I found out she was getting her own book, I had no idea how the heck she was going to be redeemed. But yeah, completely forgiven by chapter 2, 😂 This woman. She may be broken, she may be down, but she is not out. She is a survivor through and through and an absolute inspiration to just keep going. She ends up being so amazing and so deserving of an HEA. Through the stories events everything that she struggled with and everything that she went through and sacrificed comes to light and one of the best things is the repairing of her relationship with Taz, her daughter. She did frustrate me a bit at times with her martyr behavior but in retrospect, I think it really did go with her character and constant living in fear and isolation.
It all really comes full circle for the Guerro family. I loved the story, the fact that we had an older FMC and MMC, the action and suspense, the imperfect characters and relationships, the cast of characters from the first two books and even other series.
This is my favorite series of Molly’s and I can’t wait for Vedder’s book. I really hope he gives it to Griff cause that guy needs to get the frick over it, IYKYK (read Fire for Effect, 😉)
It's just incredible! I absolutely loved this book, and I just have to read the Morningkill series now - because I want to know everything!!! @molly.briar has masterfully combined crime/thriller with dark and spicy romance! It's a combination that I am going crazy for! Cobra is such a suave character, gentle and caring, but at the same time brutal and unforgiving when it gets to his women. I love that this is a second chance love story, and Cobra and Teri are older and more mature. The fear and angst in Teri felt palpable, and it made my hate towards Ray so much more intense! Dark romance readers, if you are looking for a morally grey MMC and a broken yet strong FMC, then this comes out on the 18th of August!! I guarantee you will want to read the whole series too!
Thank you to Molly Briar for my advanced copy of this delightful book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This was my first book by this author and this series and ... woah 🤩 the "my wife" vibes were delicious ( I was so there for it) , the plot was great and loved the character development too. Absolutely wanting to read this all over again 😍
**This was an advanced reader copy. Thank you to Molly Briar for the opportunity
Danger Close is the 3rd book in the Mourningkill Series written by Molly Briar. It centers around Cobra, a former spy/secret agent who is now retired and is connected to some type of off the books domestic defense agency. It also follows Teri, Cobra's ex-wife, who has faced so many hardships in the last 30 years of her life that she has become a shell of a person who is doing her best to just survive. They reconnect when Cobra tracks her down so that she will attend their daughters wedding, despite there being animosity between mother and daughter. There are many twists, turns, and surprises throughout the story, but at its core, this is a love story with a strong theme of survival. We see glimpses into Cobra and Teri's pasts both together and apart in different parts of the book, and we are able to learn how far Teri is willing to go to protect her child as well as what Cobra feels that he needs to do to protect the woman that he has loved for decades.
I listened to the duet narration audiobook, which is narrated by PG Hammock, and the author herself, Molly Briar. The narration itself was good, especially once I was able to get used to the French accent that the FMC has. As I listened, it appeared that the female narrator was very good at distinguishing between the various characters that she was voicing, and I appreciated her range of accents. The male narrator also was able to ensure that the listener was able to tell that a different character was speaking, but many of his characters appeared to have similar backgrounds, so their voices weren't as important to differentiate between.
Overall the story was complex, it drew me in, and I felt for Teri especially, the more that I learned about what she had faced in her past. There were some pieces that were slightly repetitive, but also relevant to the story in multiple parts, so it was understandable. It was also a little unclear what Cobra actually does at this point, since he stated multiple times that he was retired, but obviously is still doing some work with other former agents and military members.
While the description does state that the book can be read as a stand-alone, there were references to things that likely happened in previous books, so the reader should be aware of potential spoilers. There are also multiple references to abuse in many forms, so the reader should be aware of their personal triggers prior to diving in to this book. Healing oneself from the level of trauma that Teri faced for so many years does not happen quickly or easily, and I appreciated the authors acknowledgement of that fact.
In general, I enjoyed listening to Danger Close, and would be interested in starting from the beginning of the series to get a better idea of the characters in this story. I found the reveal of who the bad guy actually was to be surprising, and there were absolutely events that I did not see coming, especially towards the end of the story itself. I personally loved the epilogue, and was pleased with the HEA that the characters appear to be making progress towards every day.
I received and listened to an ALC of this audiobook thanks to the DNABC Street team in exchange for my fair and honest review.

I'm giving it a shaky 3⭐️.This second chance romance was a lovely surprise. Our MC's are in their 50's and reconnecting at their daughters' wedding. A lot has happened since they last saw each other, and It was nice seeing Joe do whatever he needed to get his wife back and fix the relationship between mother and daughter. 'My wife' vibes were strong, and it was a heartwarming read as the family reconnected. The found family in this book were beautiful, but I felt like I was missing a lot to be fully invested, and I will touch on that more later.
It wasn't as dark as I thought it would be, and there also wasn't as much action. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, just a little disappointing. Since our MMC is ex-military/spy, I thought there would be more fights, drama, and tension, but we only got a couple of scenes. The main focus was on Teri and healing her relationship with Trinity and Joe. Joe's character did frustrate me at points, especially once he found out what was happening to Teri. I understand he was trying to help her feel loved, but his need to constantly kiss her when she was angry, scared, or happy was infuriating. He was taking a physical approach when it wasn't always needed. Considering what she had been through, this felt a little insensitive. It would have felt like a much bigger deal if Teri had made the move and kissed him to show how much she had opened up and trusted him. I was also told this could be read as a standalone, which I suppose it can, but personally I felt as though I didn't connect to the characters the same because I was missing a lot of information. How did Cobra and his daughter meet? Why does Charlotte have such a strong connection to Trinity? What was Greg's speech? Why is he getting so much hatred from the group? There were so many parts that were set up or happened in previous stories and felt crucial to this one, and I felt as though I was just thrown into the deep end. It was hard to be fully invested when you weren't aware of everything that was going on. I wouldn't even need to read all of her books, but if we were advised on books that featured/focused on important characters in this book, then it would have been a more heartwarming read.
A huge thank you to the author for allowing me to read an e-arc in exchange for honest review.
I started reading this as a standalone with no prior knowledge of the rest of the series and I found that I connected with the characters easily and didn’t feel like I needed more of a backstory to be able to get caught up in the plot. Having said that, I do think maybe some of the questions that have been nagging me might’ve been explained by knowing more about the backstory but I think it’s a mix between that and developing this book a bit more.
I enjoyed the mix of the slow burn romance and suspense and excitement from the plot and I thought the main and side characters were developed well and drew me in. I do wish certain parts of the book were more detailed, I feel like at points it goes very quickly over important moments that I wish were more detailed, especially towards the end. I would have hoped to see more of a reconciliation between Teri and her daughter especially after the truth came out. Also Ray was such an elusive character for the whole book and then it all felt a bit rushed at the end (if not a little bit predictable too), but I enjoyed the twists. I’m also fully invested in finding out more about literally every character. I found myself tearing up quite frequently at points but also really enjoyed the funny moments and the absolute determination of Cobra calling Teri ‘his wife’ and having no regrets about it.
Overall a good read, but there is definitely space for improvement in terms of spacing out the plot and removing some repetitive content in favour of detailing other moments but I enjoyed the book and the characters. Thank you to Molly and the team for providing an eARC for this book.

I don't remember signing up for the ARC for this, so imagine my very pleasant surprise at finding this in my email and a physical postcard in my mailbox about it.
Danger Close will now be the 3rd book I have read from Molly Briar, and as with previous novels, I am blown away by h0w intense the writing is. The pacing, both with the plot as well as with the relationship building (this is a second chance but these two have not been together for 30 years, they are very much different people), was steady paced and very well done. There was a bit of a countdown provided at the start of every chapter for the first half. The week leading up to the wedding was fraught with tension and some really terrible behavior from side characters as well as our MMC, Cobra/Joe.
Out FMC, Teri has gone through pretty much every horrible thing you can imagine for the past 30 years. Her husband abandoned her, her daughter grew up to hate her, and she has been abused and tormented for 3 decades. So when Cobra kidnaps her to bring her to her daughter's wedding, it makes it a little hard to like any of them. I especially found it difficult to like the daughter, Trinity, because despite wanting her mother at her wedding, she didn't invite her and was not happy to see her. This disdain is because Teri moved them around constantly in her childhood and took her away from a stepdad she loved. It's easy to deduce why, and it's easy to understand why Teri didn't explain why to Trinity. But Trinity's behavior and the behavior from the other sides was so terrible, can anyone really blame Teri for not wanting to be there. And I know this is set up for a villain redemption arc for Teri, since Taz/Trinity's book preceded this. But I just really hated how bad they treated her.
Cobra/Joe did better once he opened his eyes and realized that his ex-wife was viscerally afraid of him any time he moved too fast or raised his voice. But there were still occasions when he blew off her concerns and her fear. And honestly, that's the only reason this wasn't a full 5 stars. Because Cobra pissed me off and I didn't like it. He did make up for it though, with a pound or two of flesh.
Overall, I loved this. I love Briar's writing. It's dark and intense and un-put-down-able.
From the very first chapter, this story pulls you in and keeps you hooked. You’re instantly curious about the past these characters share and desperate to piece together how it all went so wrong.
Teri, our FMC, hasn’t laid eyes on her ex-husband in thirty years. In that time, she’s raised their daughternow grown but their relationship is strained. She’s also endured years of abuse at the hands of another man, a secret she’s carried in silence to protect her daughter. But Teri is done running. Determined to take her strength back, she’s training hard and ready to stand her ground.
Then there’s Cobra the MMC, her ex-husband, and a spy. Beneath his lethal skill set lies a man who never stopped loving her. He thought she hated him. She thought he’d abandoned her. But when fate throws them back together, the sparks are just as volatile as the danger surrounding them.
This isn’t your typical second-chance romance it’s gritty, intense, and full of high-stakes suspense. Think kidnapping, covert missions, and shadowy enemies mixed with raw emotion, heartbreak, and chemistry that never burned out. Cobra is everything you want in a special forces hero: lethal, protective, and impossibly tender when it comes to Teri. And let’s just say… if the words octopus tentacle don’t grab your attention, nothing will.
I loved the blend of danger, passion, and resilience in this story. It’s not just about rekindling a lost love it’s about survival, strength, and finding your way back to each other when the odds are stacked against you.
This is a second chance romantic suspense story with two characters in their fifties.
Ideally do read the first two Mourningkill books in the series first as otherwise it will be difficult to fully understand the background and dynamics.
This is a very fast path book, it does cover domestic abuse, so be careful if this is a trigger for you. A full list of triggers is at the start of the book
I like the idea of Cobra discovering what has happened in the past and protecting Teri and taking revenge. Teri is beaten, battered but tries everything to protect her daughter, even to the cost of nearly loosing her completey. I do like her but I also found it slightly annoying that she wouldn't give in and let the others help.
Cobra - you need to like alpha, possessive and overbearing characters. He does not give up and while some of his actions are cave-man, at his core he means well and when pointed out, he does realise it but does not necessarily stop.
I found the book slightly too long, some parts felt repetitive and I wanted to get to the bottom of Teri's tormenter a lot earlier.
I am fairly new to this author and some characters and events do feel like I was missing a connection. It does not prevent enjoying this book but it feels like you need to go back and see what else this author published.
He’s a former spy who’s seen humanity at its worst, but nothing hits harder than facing the woman he’s never stopped loving—the mother of his child—after decades apart. What should’ve been a simple mission to get her to their daughter’s wedding turns into something much more dangerous when he realizes she’s been deeply hurt in the years since he left. Her defenses are sky-high, and she believes he abandoned her. The truth is far more complicated, but now he’s ready to do whatever it takes to earn her trust back and keep her safe.
This story hits that perfect mix of grit, heat, and heart. The romance feels intense and deeply rooted in shared history, making the emotional payoff satisfying. The protector aspect is strong—he’s fiercely loyal, skilled, and unflinching when it comes to standing between her and danger. The Mourningkill world adds layers of intrigue, danger, and found-family connections that enhance the story without overshadowing the central romance.
It’s got tension, action, and just the right amount of steam. A solid, satisfying second-chance protector romance that keeps you turning pages and rooting for them to finally get it right.
***ARC COPY Review *** This book wrecked me in the best way. The slow burn? Oh, it was slow-burning—and I loved every torturous second of it. The MMC’s protectiveness towards the FMC even after thirty years and a divorce did not leave me wanting… it served. A multi-decade second-chance romance between an ex-spy (codename: Cobra) and the only woman he’s ever loved, Danger Close is packed with slow-burn yearning, protective hero vibes, and the kind of emotional tension that keeps you turning pages late into the night. From the very first page, Molly plants questions like a landmine — you know it’s going to go off, you just don’t know when it’s going to happen and you can feel the tension beneath every scene you read. I laughed, I cried and I highlighted half of my ARC Copy. My heart was aching on one page and pounding the next. If you love second-chance romances with a dangerous edge, an unforgettable hero, and love stories worth fighting for, Danger Close needs to be on your TBR. Thank you to Molly Briar for providing me with an ARC of Danger Close in exchange for my honest review.
Danger Close - Molly Briar Format: Digital Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
*This was an advanced reader copy. Thank you Molly! (I had to re-submit the review because I deleted Goodreads books =/)
I fell in love with Molly Briar's writing in the 1st of the Mourningkill series - Four Calling Birds. This is a Second Chance, Small Town Military Romance, but also FOUND family as well.
I was looking forward to this and I honestly hated Teri from the way she was portrayed in Fire For Effect - Taz's story.
Boyyyyyyyy was I in for a surprise.
As you read through the story, you learn WHY Teri is why she is and your heart will break.
Cobra is very much possessive touch her and die a very slow death. Teri's journey has been very rough but through it all her focus was making sure Taz was safe. I get it, but I also feel like Teri could have explained to Cobra when he kidnaps her to take her Taz's wedding. When Taz realizes what her mom was going through, it helped but I feel like Taz could have done more to understand her mom better.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and cannot wait for the next one!
Hello Daddy Cobra... It has been several days since I finished Danger Close and I am still struggling to find the words to explain how much I loved this book.
Having read previous Molly Briar books I knew that there would be this wonderful melding between character arcs and a plot filled with action, suspense, a little humor, and lots of steam. What I wasn't expecting was to be bawling my eyes out.
As much as I want Cobra for myself, no one could stand in the way of the second chance arc between Teri and Cobra. It gritty and healing; it was perfect. That isn't to say that there wasn't a lot of secrets and twists that they had to survive, because there was. Danger Close is easily one of my top five favorite reads in the Briarverse.
While this book can be read as a standalone, reading the previous Mourningkill books add additional nuances and extra background on both main characters. Plus in true fashion, there are cameos from previous characters from others books and it is fun to see how all the characters wave together.
I LOVED IT! This book is an unforgettable journey into a world where personal demons clash with external threats. It’s an intense and deeply emotional story that takes you into a realm of high stakes, blurred moral lines and complex relationships!
It’s a heart wrenching and exhilarating story with a brooding, deliciously dominant hero, that promises you an emotional rollercoaster experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s got resilience, unconventional romance, and fierce loyalty, as well as side characters to love along with the main characters. And the characters are older which I love!
If you're a reader who craves dominant heroes, fierce heroines, and intimate scenes that go beyond mere suggestion then do yourself a favour and pick this up. You won't regret losing yourself in the world of ‘Cobra and his Princess’. It's unforgettable and unputdownable!
Definitely read the trigger warnings if you have triggers as it’s got sensitive and potentially triggering themes.
What I really loved here is that our MCs are in their 50s, which is so refreshing in romance. The “my wife” trope is handled beautifully, giving us that perfect mix of longing, regret, and fierce protectiveness. It’s second-chance romance done right.
That said, I’ll be honest—it wasn’t as dark or gritty as I expected. But maybe that’s just me, because I tend to devour some pretty heavy, trigger-heavy books. This one leans softer, more about emotional walls and rebuilding trust than nonstop action or violence. It’s also a slow burn romance, so be prepared to settle in and savor the build.
Technically this can be read as a standalone, and the story holds up fine on its own, but I did feel like some context might click better if I’d read the other Mourningkill books first. You can bet I’ll be checking those out soon.
Overall, this was tender, heartfelt, and exactly the kind of second-chance story that hits when you want something that’s equal parts romance and healing. Molly Briar is one of my absolute favorites for a reason.
Absolute carnage, this was deep and dark and utterly consuming. Written with so much detail and feeling. Decades previous after having their baby girl trinity, cobra "left" teri to live his life as a spy, Teri found love again with another man... who ended up abusing her any way he could, after finially escaping him and living as off radar as possible he catches up with her multiple times to remind her he's always around to terrorise her. With his daughter trinitys wedding coming up cobra makes a promise to her that he'll get her mother to attend any way he can, but what he wasn't aware of is that all those feelings for Teri never left him... now he learns what really happened while they've been apart and my god does he handle that! I loved the tension between cobra and Teri from the minute they collided again, Full of Compelling characters with complex emotional journeys, Gripping suspense and action, with strong romantic tension balanced with high-stakes storytelling. Not to mention a juicy twist towards the end. Thank you so much!

I spy another banger from Molly Briar! Danger Close is book 3 in the Mourningkill series, and a thrilling ride! An assignment took Juaquin “Cobra” Guerro away from the love of his life three decades ago. Teresa Guerro was a young mother, abandoned by her Special Ops husband and desperate to make a stable life for her daughter, Trinity. But life took a dark turn for Teri, and she’s spent the last few decades in fear. Second-Chance is one of my top romance tropes, and Danger Close is one for the ages! This ex-military, enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity had me yearning for Cobra and Teri’s HEA. After reading Trinity’s story in Fire For Effect, book two in the series, I wasn’t sure if I could get on board with Teresa’s redemption, but I was captivated by Cobra, so I knew this story would win me over. Molly delivered a beautiful, heartbreaking love story with relatable, sympathetic, fierce AF characters and the swooniest ex-undercover biker silver fox! I loved catching up with all my favorite Mourningkill characters…even Jericho Vasiliev. Lol. IYKYK.
*Special thanks to Molly Briar for the advanced copy of this book. Please check the TWs before reading.
This was a fast paced emotional roller coaster of a book, thankfully the author made the trigger warnings very clear at the beginning of the book (always protect your mental health) so I knew I was in for an emotional ride.
This was complex, action packed and emotive. The FMC is so strong and yet so vulnerable and she held herself together despite unimaginable adversity. The MMC is slightly jaded and hardened from his work but quickly opens himself up to the past love of his life and becomes determined to help her survive and heal.
Key bits: -avenging hero -second chance romance -high angst -emotional roller coaster -older FMC/MMC (we love to see it) -heavy MY WIFE moments -WHO DID THIS TO YOU
Expected 18 August 2025
Well worth a read if you like high stakes, angst and vengeance but please, please check your trigger warnings!
Thank you to the author Molly Briar for the ARC copy.
A solid good dark romance with interesting backstories and characters I was rooting for!
The pacing was steady — maybe a touch fast in places, but nothing that threw me. I really liked how it wove in scary and prevalent real-world issues like ICE raids and the corruption that can fuel human trafficking. That angle made it feel more grounded than a lot of romances in this subgenre.
Teri’s portrayal was believable and haunting. She’s endured years of abuse and stalking, and while her fear might seem a lot at times, it made sense — she’s lived with it for decades, and it’s almost become part of her identity. Seeing her find some happiness and begin to believe in others again was lovely. I was a bit surprised her daughter never picked up on anything, though — kids can be perceptive, and sometimes when they still feel a bond with an abuser it’s because they’ve learned those behaviours.
Cobra as a love interest… a little unhinged at times, sure, but others called him out on it and he tried to make up for it. Wrong actions, right place — and he was definitely sensitive to her issues. The romance had plenty of spice (dirty talk included) and he’s absolutely full-on in love with her. It’s a bit of a stretch to believe that love lasted 30 years without contact, but he’s a badass, so I’ll suspend my disbelief. There’s a moment where he tells Teri how much he still desires her, and she starts to believe she could be desirable again — that scene really stuck with me.
I was never entirely clear on the misunderstanding that caused them to separate, but it didn’t affect my enjoyment too much. Overall, a solid, likeable dark romance — 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. I know it’s part of a series, but I’m on the fence about continuing — not because of the writing, just because my TBR is already a monster.
ARC read of a Molly Briar Mourningkill Series: Teri and Joe (Cobra), find themselves back in each others arms after 30 years apart. Why you might ask? He is a spy, she was his wife, she thought he left her, he was just working, but of course another more dangerous man is lurking and keeping them apart. Their daughter is getting married, Joe kidnaps his ex wife to be there not knowing why was staying away. She comes back and her daughter hates her, the group is not fond of her either, but it is her ex husband who still loves her, that pulls her in and helps her to release all her worries. She is afraid of everything she has brought to his doorstep, she kept quiet for all those years. Will they survive this??? I would say the middle and ending are amazing in this book, it had a rather slow start and I struggled a bit with that, but just keep with it, it will be worth it!! I promise. Thank you Molly Briar for letting me get a chance to read this.
Wow, this book packed in an awful lot. There was so much going on the whole way through which I really enjoyed and I loved the two main characters dual POV. I found the pacing very well done with it not suddenly making any big time jumps a nice point. The characters were fairly well developed and I liked getting to know them and small snippets revealed about them all along the way. As an extra note at this point, I do have to say that this is stated to be an interconnected stand alone however I did find initially it was a bit overwhelming trying to keep track of all the characters, there is a lot of them and by the end of the book you definitely know them but at the start it's difficult and readers may very well heavily benefit from reading the previous two books. The relationship development between them was nice to read and I enjoyed them recalling moments from the past to know more about how they may move forwards. Overall, a solid read but a lot of information to get to grips with at the beginning. Favourite Quote - Someone had tried to break her. But all they’d done was rub dirt on a diamond. Favourite Character - Norkus 3.5/5 stars
I think not reading some more of the books in this series had me on the back foot. It wasn’t uneasy to follow as such it just didn’t give a lot of back story to the secondary characters.
I wanted to love the second chance romance but it just felt a bit too rushed, he was back in her presence 5 minutes and already he was all over her like a rash..
There was a few times I thought I might have to DNF this, until about 75% it really just felt like there wasn’t much going on. I appreciated it was about Teri’s character development and her attempt to mend her relationship with her daughter and ex husband but it just fell flat for me. The last 25% of the story were more fast paced and enjoyable but again it just kind of felt like a rush to get to a happy ending..
Not a series I will continue unfortunately,

What I loved: The FMCs growth to overcome a really terrible past. The MMC slowly realizing that he was going to have to be gentle and loving her through the pain. I just love second chance romance in general.
What I did not love: Near the beginning there’s a point where he grabs her thigh and just kinda ignores the fact she’s not cool. As someone who was a super spy character, I feel like he should have been more perceptive. The villain is a terrible human. He deserved what he got.

I'm halfway through Danger Close and already hooked. The characters are actual people in a way I rarely find. They really do act their age, and it sounds so cliché, but so many books mess that up. I haven't yet experienced that "wait, they're supposed to be how old?" moment.
Teri draws me completely in. She's fighting to protect herself from someone taking as extreme a measure as learning how to protect herself at a gym, and it's real to read. Her first lover, Joe, is just as engaging. He's relentless in tracking her down and rescuing her whatever the cost. The way their stories converge has had me reading much too late at night.
I have no idea how it turns out, but the first half has been chock-full of tight pacing, emotional tension, and characters that I'm invested in. If the second half stays this way, it will be in my top five. 🧡📚

I loved this story. There might be some spoilers below. > > > > > > > >
The characters were awesome and the fun that some had within the book. The idea of a second chance for Cobra, wasn't something that he was sure of at first. Until he saw his ex wife 30 years later. Cobra always loved his wife and had never stopped loving her even after the divorce. But fates have something else in store for Cobra and Terri. Terri, thought that she was abandoned 30 years ago, when in reality Cobra was joining his brothers organization as a spy. Terri, just wanted to be loved and appreciated for herself. while another guy gave her that she was also abused by the same guy. There was also the thought of what the guy would do to her daughter. Plot was awesome. Character banter was good.
Molly, you never disappoint and I just love this book!! We meet Cobra in the previous book, and now we get his full story. And let me tell you how delicious this story is, I could not put it down! Joaquin Guerro a.k.a. Cobra is on a mission to make his daughter happy by bringing her mother to her wedding. Cobra does as he promised, but the woman he still loves is not the same woman anymore. Teri Guerro loves her daughter, but as a parent, she shielded her from her dark past causing them to drift apart. When she is brought back to attend Taz's wedding, she was not initially invited to, her past seems to find her. This read had me in my feels from beginning to end. With everything Teri went through, Cobra never stopped loving her. And this read has older characters, so that was a huge plus for me. Twist and turns has be obsessed and wanting more!!
