Summary: "The Upside of Irrationality" by Dan Ariely

Rate this book
This work offers a SUMMARY of the book "THE UPSIDE OF IRRATIONALITY" originally written by DAN ARIELY.

The book illustrates how our cognitive biases often lead us astray, particularly when we have to make, big, difficult and/or painful choices. For example, the author explains why adding incentives can sometimes backfire and reduce performance since there exists an an inverse-u relationship between performance and incentives. It illustrates such idiosyncrasies as the IKEA effect (if you build something, pride and sentimental attachment are likely to give you an inflated sense of its quality) and the Baby Jessica effect (why we respond to one person's suffering but not to the suffering of many).

The original book is brilliant and deeply insightful. But it is ~200 pages in length. This work summarizes the central message and key insights presented in the original book. It is easy to read and understand. It saves you time.

How about our tendency to want summaries of books instead of investing the effort to read them? 200 pages isn't much to read, people, to get the actual experience the author intended. Bah.
