Lilith Caccia has spent years hunting and killing men only to become prey herself. Though she's a skilled assassin, she's haunted by the disappearance of her sister and must find her before it's too late. Enter West Hale, her steadfast ally and ex-Navy SEAL, whose loyalty runs deep. Together, they navigate the treacherous terrain of Lilith's world while she becomes torn between duty and desire as her icy exterior begins to thaw in West's presence. On this deadly new battlefield, Lilith must fight not only for her sister but to reclaim her family's legacy. With a treacherous path before her and new allies beside her, she puts everything on the line to get the justice she feels she deserves. The bond with West, now threatened with newfound emotions, becomes a flicker of solace in a world cloaked in uncertainty. Together, they confront the demons of their past, their evolving relationship offering both excitement and strength. This is the second novel in the Black Fates series, written by Christine Roi, where mysteries unravel, alliances shift, and love emerges as a powerful force against the unknown.
Writing has always been my escape—a way to avoid reality, spin better ones, and create book boyfriends who set impossibly high standards. In 2023, I went all in on the dream: I went full delulu and quit my full-time job to finish my Black Fates series.
Turns out, writing books is the easy part; sharing your life online is where things get weird. As someone who’s spent years wrestling with terrible self-esteem, anxiety, and impostor syndrome, learning to own my story has been equal parts terrifying and transformative.
When I’m not writing, you’ll find me baking various things, hiking through the gorgeous terrain of Colorado, and hunting for secondhand treasures at local thrift shops. Spoiler: If you think my characters are oddly specific, it’s probably because they borrowed some of their eccentricities from me.
I could not put it down, read it in a couple hours, am completely destroyed and can’t wait for the 3rd book.
Lili is again such a badass but so vulnerable also. The growth she goes through from her struggles with her past, past relationships and trying to look into the future it’s very relatable.
Her and west are so good in it and ugh swoon for West!
It’s spicy and romantic with violence and torture but not to the point where it’s too much. So many twists and turns when you think you know what’s happening but boom it’s not that! And I am completely destroyed by the events too. I don’t want to spoil it but tears were shed.
Lots of character development and you see so much more about them. Perfectly written.
100% recommend! Received early as an ARC reader
Book one is just as good and they flow amazing together!
This is the second book in the series, so I don’t want to spoil much in case you didn’t read the first one yet.
We continue the story of Lilith Caccia, and her “battle” with a skin trader Organization and trying to find some loved ones that have been taken by them.
And while trying to solve this “mystery”, Lili will be finding her foot on Love letting her walls to collapse little by little.
Please Christine, finish the next book soon, I need to know how Lilith’s story continues.
- Thanks to Christine Roi for giving me a free arc copy in exchange of an honest review -
This book was the perfect addition to the Black Fates series and truthfully one I enjoyed even more than the first! Christine Roi has such a unique writing style that I swear I could tell it was her book from a mile away.
Lilith has been one of my favorite FMC’s since I first met her all those months ago. She is wholeheartedly a badass and the most fun to read about. Her journey through this book was emotional to follow and made her so much more real and relatable.
Next comes West and I can’t even tell you how quickly I feel in love with him. There relationship and the way they elevate each other is so perfect, and the spice and the romance just balanced out the action and fast pace of the book.
I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a read that’ll keep you on your toes and leave you totally in tears, I was unwell.
Thank you so much Christine Roi for allowing me to continue on Lilith’s journey, I’m ready for the next one…but please no more tears!
This is the second book in the Black Fates series and takes place after the events at the end of book 1. I really enjoyed this book and I especially love Lilith and West, their chemistry is electric and the spice is so steamy. Lilith is a strong yet vulnerable FMC and West is just so yummy. There are so many twists and turns though this story I could not predict what was going to happen next and it is so well written. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series and see where the story takes us. Please check your TW before reading.
Omg, this book is so good!! I am absolutely in love with West! It was super well-paced and action-packed. It had my attention from the very beginning and I cannot wait to read the next one!!
Qoutes I loved:
This guy was sketchy as hell. But I kill people for a living, so who was I to judge?
Just because I regularly send people to their graves doesn’t mean that I don’t care about the environment.
“Now be a good girl for me and wait here,” West had said with a wink. I sent him off with a smile. And a middle finger.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’ve never considered myself a “mafia romance” reader. And while the caccia family and their dealings are a huge part of this series, this book gives major Taken vibes in the best way possible. I love the character and relationship development. The banter and one-liners, the sass. But also the emotion this wrenched from me. Christine, I’ll be sending you my therapy bill!
Simply WOW!!!! I'm always hesitant to read the second book after the first one was so great but Christine didn't let me down. Sworn in Blood was even better than the first book and I had trouble putting it down. A mix of Love, Torture, and revenge is a perfect combo. The ending I once again didn't see coming and was a huge mix of emotions for me, I'm completely invested in this series and can't wait to see what book three has in store.
REALLY enjoyed the romance side of the story, but was missing a sense of urgency with the mafia side—it felt like Lili was really dragging her feet getting out there (or even figuring out a plan) to find her sister, just letting precious time tick away while she was busy falling in love.
Some parts of this book are so good it make sit frustrating that small parts are dropped. Oh she’s an underboss so she is the rightful boss, oh but she’s not and needs to fight for her position. What? Oh last book her sister told her to open her safe if anything happens to her and halfway through the book she still hasn’t opened it.
