Attack on Foresight
Foresight is under attack!
The good news is many of the greatest warriors, human, aelf, and dwarf, are in foresight, and it is only grendlaar. The bad news is there are a LOT of grendlaar, more than twice the population of the entire city. Most of those people are outside enjoying Jubilee. If the grendlaar get past the knights, the city will be lost.
Will the aelf in the city come out and fight, or wait for explicit instructions from their king? Will the warriors competing in the Grand Melee stay and fight, or return to the city to get their armor? Cuir bouilli is fine for tournaments, but not against tens of thousands of grendlaar.
When the queen of the Southern Kingdom hears the horns announcing the attack, she immediately halts the feast they had been preparing to set up the tavern to tend the wounded. But they may soon have their own problems.
Alliandre is gravely injured saving Sir Rodney the Magnificent, to fulfil a promise made at Marion’s request. This threatens to set off a blood feud between the Southern Kingdom and the greatest house in the Central Kingdom. They will have to figure that out if they survive the attack on Foresight.

I'm going to try very hard to give an honest review that is spoiler free. I'm not entirely sure I'll be able to do so since I know the author and because there are specific moments in the book I might need to point at.
Let's start with the important bit. I liked it! This is actually my 2nd reading of the book and it still held my attention. That is high praise all its own. I tend to only read physical books while I'm at lunch at work and there were a couple days I came back late because it drew mine in so hard.
I really like most of the characters. Literally almost all of the characters are very likeable and make for an interesting read. But there were more than a few times when I would shake my head at the interactions between them. More specifically the dialogue. Some of it felt forced or unnatural and in some instances with the King it felt childish.
The combat is really good. And several of the best moments of the book happen during combat. That said, there are a time or two (watch as I dance this line of no spoilers) where one character could have continued fighting in silence and it would have made it so much better.
I really gotta say that I actively want another book! Furthermore, I could stand to read more about the Grendlaar and the full world at large. Think like a D&D style campaign book that digs into the different societies, peoples, and monsters. I feel like between the first 2 books and the short story anthology, there's enough history for now, but the lore could be built on so well!
Final thoughts: I could see myself reading this book a third or fourth time. My next reading will be prefaced by rereading the first book again. I wonder if I have any friends that would paint a Grendlaar for me... Maybe for a T-shirt...

**Attack on Foresight: Book II of The Knights' Trials** by Daniel Ethan Myers is an epic, heart-pounding continuation of a fantasy saga that grabs you from the very first line and doesn’t let go until the last. ⚔️🔥
Foresight, a city brimming with legendary warriors, faces its darkest hour as endless waves of grendlaar descend upon its walls. The tension is palpable — brave knights, noble aelfs, and steadfast dwarves must unite against overwhelming odds. As chaos unfolds, political intrigue and deep-seated rivalries threaten to tear old alliances apart. Will courage and honor be enough to overcome fear and division? Or will pride and hesitation doom them all?
Daniel Ethan Myers crafts a world so vivid and alive that readers can almost hear the clash of steel, feel the tremors of battle, and taste the desperation in the air. His storytelling shines through a blend of heroic valor, emotional depth, and thrilling unpredictability. Each character’s decision — from the Great Aelf King’s hesitation to Alliandre’s sacrifice — carries weight and consequence, making the stakes feel real and urgent. 🏰💫

Such a fun adventure with cozy moments! Daniel has done it again! Love that it feels like a great DND campaign, with continued character development. Also, I always love strong female characters portrayed. In which he did a great job highlighting along with the other characters. Looking forward to reading more by Daniel!
